I bought a steamer, and the arm of the steamer is long and easy to adjust over the center of the client, unlike smaller arms that just steam one side of the face. It is light weight and easy to move. I also bought a small trolley. It was easy to put together, has three shelves, and rolls easily. It is a little heavy, which is helpful because I am not afraid I will tip it over; it feels stable. I came across this company on ebay, purchased a pretty expensive item which they had listed and Alex immediately called to inform us they do not have the item pictured. He tried to offer replacement items which were not what we wanted so we instead canceled the sale. This happened again a week later when we bid on the same item without realizing he RE-LISTED it! Then after arguing irrationally with us he decided it would be fair to refund my money MINUS 10%!! If you are selling an item, use your common sense and post a picture of the exact item! I just purchased five pieces of equipment from Alex and I found him, and others I spoke to during my process, to be knowledgable, helpful and courteous. My products arrived within a few days and everything was in great shape. The magnifying light that I upgraded on Alex's recommendation is a nice change from the old mag lamps that don't stay put and squeeze and pinch your fingers whenever you try to adjust it. Unfortunately, the good customer service ended there. I called to ask for help to install the armrests because they weren't going in and I got a very condescending and defensive email. 5/2012-Spa Mgr replaced 4 hot towel cabinets (1 per spa room)and purchased 1 oversized hot towel cabinet (spa hallway). She worked w/ Alex and communicated our requirement that the 4 cabinets must have a drop-down door (web showed swing doors)-Alex said he could source & sell us drop-down units. 6/15-Rec'd 5 units. Began use on 6/30 (due to arrival of spa carts from another company). 8/25-Lynne learned that unit 4 would turn itself off & the oversized unit would not stay on. 9/5-Called Alva, and received approval to have our maintenance man, Paul to look at the unit w/out voiding any warranties. 9/21-Room4 unit stopped working. Paul said unit is cheaply made & to send it back under warranty. 9/27-Paul talked to Alex and they determined to bypass the switch on the oversized unit, and we would turn off the unit by pulling the plug from the outlet. Alex shipped parts. 10/4-Room1 unit stopped working. 10/5-Paul replaced parts-oversized unit came on, but did not reach correct temp-we ceased use. 10/10-I called Alex-oversized unit still not working, he said, "then your technician doesn't know what he's doing." I asked him to call when the unit I sent was looked at to see what to do with the other non-working units. Alex accused the staff for mishandling equipment. 10/11-Room4 unit rec'd by Alva. Alex accused me of sending a random unit back & did not have any record from his vendors. I reminded him of the cabinet door drop-down requirement. Alex dismissed the warranty & said I could purchase new units or pay repair costs. Told him I wanted a refund for everything. 10/12-Room3 unit stopped working. The customer service from Alex has been nothing but terrible. I have left out all the times that he interrupted me, would not let me finish any sentences, the terrible tone and best of all the accusations that he has made. I still cannot believe this is the way that he treats his customers... until I read the BBB and other online reviews. As described in the different reviews, this company routinely: faults the staff for breaking items, is rude and belligerent, refuses to honor warranties, sells junk, does not take proper steps to resolve issues, and does not stand behind their word. It is unbelievable that the poor customer service and rudeness continues to be displayed through the company's responses to the complaints that are on the Better Business Bureau's web site. I am looking to receive a full refund $1198.96 from Alva Beauty. read more

They did not have the original facial bed I wanted, but I am extremely happy that I bought the one I did. The chair (The Estrada) is comfortable, beautiful, easy to move around, and easy to use. I agree this company is a fraud. They sold me a Volusion 4 Motor Facial Bed Chair for $2400. It arrived with the base completely cracked, and they wanted me to pay to return the chair in order to fix it. The bed subsequently broke, and in repairing it myself, I could tell it was a previously used chair they tried to sell as new. They would not stand behind any warranty. This company is a fraud. Do NOT buy from them. I recently bought a styling chair from them thinking that I would get what I saw advertised on their website. But the chair came with a total different base stand than the picture online. When I brought it to their attention, they told me that they 'recently changed' the style of the chair and that's the base stand that comes with it. Then I tried to return it because clearly it's not what I have ordered, they told me that I can ship back the wrong base stand, then pay again for the shipment of the new base stand, and pay a deposit for the wrong stand just in case there was any scratches on it. Clearly they tried to push some unwanted chair base on my order, and when confronted, they tried to force me paying to fix their mistake. I tried many times to reason with them but they won't budge. I already filed a complaint with The Board of Consumer Affairs. If this also happened to you, please contact me. We can't have big companies like them try to screw over small, hard working salon owners. It's simply unlawful. read more

Terrible! Bought the one piece shampoo unit they feature. Used it twice and it cracked. The materials are cheap and will not last under ordinary use. Alva Beauty hides under the "fine print" on their website, so be sure to read EVERYTHING before purchasing. I was met with insults and childish e-mails when trying to remedy the situation. Alva Beauty was great when Alex owned it. Now it is basically a warehouse for sales and you will not get help with any problems. I wasted $2400 on a Steamer that I hate and never use. It never came with directions and when I asked questions they told me I should known because I am an Aesthetician. Sorry, I have never had microdermabrasion on a steamer!!! And Oh! There is no tubing! Gee whiz! Directions were sent via email. Half of it was spelled incorrectly and did not belong to that machine. Seriously???? The chair I received was not going to work for my business for many reasons, however it was the HORRIBLE customer service and careless, flippant attitude specifically from Alex, the "owner", that makes my blood boil. Everything was great until having our Mastero bed for 3 weeks. The vinyl on the bed tore, its obviously in a spot where the back of the bed rubs on the body of the chair. We contacted Alex and asked him to make good on this for a fix. He wanted us to pay to have a 3rd party come out and evaluate the bed, but they would pay for repairs if it was something from the bed or we could ship it back to LA. Either way we would be out a few hundred dollars. The problem here is that this is a design flaw. The two pieces obviously rub, there is a huge indent in the bed where the plastic piece rubs continually. This will happen to every bed we purchased from them. They will not take responsibility for selling a defective bed. It is upsetting to work with a company that offers great customer service until something goes wrong with the product. AVOID AT ALL COSTS ALVA BEAUTY! Click on the written comments of online BBB complainants for more accurate reviews. We believe the recent positive yelp postings clustered in just the last few weeks must have been solicited or offered something by the merchant for the positive reviews. On December 7, 2011 our company received our order of a $2,000 motorized chair from Alva Beauty that was damaged. Never mind that the components of the chair were just tossed loose in the box so they could be damaged. The damage was immediately reported to Alex Marcarian, the owner of Alva Beauty. On December 15 he wrote that the damaged back cushion could not be fixed and we would have to wait until end of March for a replacement... Mr Marcarian's exact words written to us in an email were "I don't have another new unit. This is the favor I'm asking of you. Can you work with the unit that you got until I get my factory to send me a whole new back mechanism in my next container? ...So I will mail out a new back and dispatch a tech at end of March". So we try to do him a favor in good faith and wait until March as he asked (which a reputable merchant should not even ask of a customer) while he also gets promptly paid by us back in December. And here we are end of October 2012 And Mr. Marcarian has done absolutely NOTHING and sent nobody out or even called. Alex Marcarian is the worst kind of businessman and his company should be avoided at all costs. It seems clear, now that we are in the 10th month of the 1 year warranty, that Mr. Marcarian is hoping to just run out the warranty on us so he has to do nothing. This man has a real personality problem and the comments about him in online BBB complaints to date are right on. He will respond to BBB complaints just to save face and to try to keep a high BBB rating but he will continue to mistreat the customer who complains about his or his company's deceptive and awful business practices. Mr. Marcarian is rude and belligerent. He may come across nice when he is trying to get your money and make a sale. Then if you complain when something doesn't go right and he or his company screws up, he will completely change his tune once he has your money. Mr. Marcarian may choose to respond favorably to us for the record for the sake of other potential customers who read this. JUST REMEMBER TO NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH ALVA BEAUTY!! read more
