Touristy but solid place if you want to take a break, or not, from all that walking or brown bear watching! Has a great view of the river and old town Bern with walking path that gets you back into the city. It's in a loop and we took the cogwheel back at the end of the path! Service was quick and friendly and other food my companions ordered were solid 3 stars but giving it a total score of 4 for service and ambience, and particularly of the food I got. The wurst I got was the best part of the meal, it was prepared in lightly seasoned broth and tasted fresh and smooth almost like a pate in a solid form---which compelled me to give this place 4 stars!

Food was amazing. The taste was very rich and filling whilst also having a large portion. Beer was incredible especially with the pretzels (which admittedly were not as good as the beer. Service was great, both quick and helpful. While I was sat indoors, the inside had a great feel and wasn't drab at all.

We had a delicious meal with a nice beer flight. The vibe is cool and comfortable with outdoor seating. However, a couple next to us sat after us, and had their table cleared and bill settled long before us. We sat with an uncleared table for over 30 minutes while flies annoyed us. The apple strudel was fabulous, but took over twenty minutes to arrive. It was a busy night, so we'd return for the overall food experience.

Wonderful ambience and attentive service. View from outside terrace lovely. Great selection of beers of course and good hearty food.

A decent restaurant, ok brewery and an amazing place to hang out with a view on Bern. I have been returning here on multiple occasions with my SO and friends, and every single time enjoyed it. The food is traditionally Swiss and can be a bit heavy (duh), and beers on tap are not always that amazing, the terrace and the view always make it worth it.

Good food, great beer with a great view. I only ate there once for food and multiple times for a beer. The restaurant has a very cool style but nothing beats sitting outside with a great view of Bern

Was on my list to go, and the views did not disappoint. The beers here were some of the best we had on the trip, and you really can't do any better in the city for a view. Service was very slow, but you have that view so relax. I had a sausage and a salad, which my wife and I split, and the beers. Sat outside in the beer garden overlooking the water. Not sure worth eating inside, but a delightful experience. FYI there was a huge line for some ice cream shop by the door, don't be fooled, its not the correct line.

We were looking for a less formal, more pub experience and Tramdepot hit the spot. Great buzz on the terrace and a warm sunset even in September. The host worked hard to squeeze us in with no reservation and waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. We had bratwurst & rosti and pork cordon blue. Both excellent. Great beer selection too.

Enjoyed some .2L flights which was much larger than I was expecting. I definitely got pretty tipsy from it! The waiter kindly sat us in the back without a reservation around 4pm. As the night got later, it definitely was super crowded and likely would have needed a reservation. The salami pretzel was amazing. Enjoyed the experience all around

Set in a micro brew. Long tables that are communal. Or outside seating with a view of the Bern bears. Nice. The servers here were very nice and helpful. The decor was also nice. Most of the brewery equipment is downstairs behind glass of you want to peek. The food. Yes to the wild boar stew with mushrooms. The wild boar was cooked to tenderness... And the mushrooms were fresh and there were a variety of them. Some local since I saw some of them being sold at the square market that morning. The noodles were also good... Big portions. The side of veggies was cooked in butter... No complaints. The wild boar steak with red wine sauce... Liked the sauce... The meat was very tough... Also had the homemade iced tea. Its a thing in Bern to have homemade iced tea. Always tasty. Would come here again but would be mindful of the food choices.

The view is amazing and the food is great. If you're stopping in Bern, definitely the place to go and check out. It is a little pricey but so is everywhere else. I recommend their burgers.

The Spicy Prawn Soup was amazing! Great place to stop after a long day of walking through town & the view is fantastic!

    Beer sampler

Big, comfortable location with a good atmosphere. Nice views of the city and the mountains. We had the sampler (5 beers, liked all of them). Also had pumpkin soup and weisswurst with pretzel (all delicious). Would definitely go back if I was back in bern in the future.

First the beer. Outstanding. I'm a big NEIPA fan and wouldn't normally order this in Europe but decided wth... it was fantastic. The kind of NEIPA I'd order on the regular back home. Also had a Hefeweizen bc I had to. Also great. The food. So they have a small tapas menu but was looking for more, so looked at the dinner menu. Unfortunately the dinners didn't fit in my company allowed price range (Switzerland is way too expensive), so tapas it was! Honestly it was perfect. Cheese w chutney, salami, falafel and some local meatballs. All delicious and filling. Great experience. Just lower your cost Switzerland and I'd try more! I'll return next time I'm in Basel.

I arrived at Matt & Elly during the pre-dinner time when they have a very limited menu. I did not want a burger so I stuck with the beer and the wifi for an hour or two. By the time for the kitchen to open, I was ready to head somewhere else. Delicious craft beers, a friendly bartender who spoke perfect English, a comfortable space to sit inside (heated area outside) and a speedy wifi. This was a superior spot. There were a few other 'beer geeks', I'm assuming, out braving the cold for fifteen minutes before Volta opened its doors at 17.00 this evening. We were, fortunately, let in a bit early and greeted warmly by the bar staff. One may either order at the bar or wait to be served at table. We opted for the former. The 'tender was both friendly and upbeat, in an American way, actually, and ordering was a charm. One is also able to pay straight away or start a tab. -so nice to have the option. What struck me most about Volta was its design. The place has very ambient (read: dim) lighting, the kind I find so very appropriate for a lounge/pub/bar type joint. Volta seems to have benefited from an incredibly savvy interior designer as well. It's decorated in a mix of natural wood and metal furnishings. The floor appears to be polished concrete. The floor has a mix of two-top bar tables, narrow counter-like spots, group tables and window seating. Industrial-looking light fixtures hand from various points along the ceiling and I spied at least one free-standing, old-timey Hollywood spotlight. -really lent some charm to the place. The music was a curious blend of Andrew Sisters-meets-Techno that Volta had playing just a few decibels louder than the nearly empty place warranted. It was both a bit off-putting and distracting. The menu is comprised of things to nosh on, wines, spirits, and, although there are six tap handles at either beer station behind the bar, only two beers: an IPA and a lager. We each ordered a wee nibble and two IPAs. My order of 'salted lard' (my translation) was ample (seemed about two tablespoons' worth) and served with lovely, warm slices of bread. I enjoyed it very much and felt it to be a good deal at 7 franks. The pair of Weisswürste mit Senf and a hefty Swiss-style (read: soft all over) Brezel--garnished with sesame seeds not salt--(13chf) went down well with the hubs. The 3dl (just under 12 oz) glasses of IPA were fine, not fab. The usual bite I've come to associate with IPA was missing and Volta's is a more floral and less 'hop-y' brew than I'm used to. There was also a sweetness to the finish I hadn't expected. It's a well-made beer, but not what I am looking for in an IPA, unfortunately. I'm encouraged by the number of tap handles and would expect that Volta will unveil more in their beer repertoire as time goes on. A nice Porter would be much appreciated in the upcoming Winter months, am I right? Given that this place is a stone's throw from the Novartis complex, I can well imagine Volta becoming *the* go-to spot after work. For Basel, Volta is a mini-revelation, and, I would imagine, will be leading the burgeoning brew pub scene in town. **generous outside seating **toilets shared w/ adjoining music venue

BRAUEREI. You got my attention!…read more We landed in Zurich for an overnight layover, and set out exploring the concrete jungle that evening. We were looking for a place that was vegan/restriction-friendly, and originally decided on the restaurant right by Steinfels. But after looking at the menu, we all agreed this was the better choice for our group of six, in terms of food selection and prices. Holy moly, my fellow American yelpers will also balk at the prices once you take a peek at the menu because meals will definitely be $25-$40 for dinner for one. And that's just for a dish! So the boo and I split a tuna burger, which was so tenderly made and perfectly seared. I loved that the staff put in extra effort to cut our burger in half after we briefly mentioned to the server that we'd be splitting this meal. It's the little things that matter! Portion sizes were the perfect amount of filling--not too much or too small. I eyed my friend's cauliflower starter which was literally an uncut head of cauliflower...which did not look easy or appetizing to eat. Service was very friendly and swift. They were pretty full, but didn't have to wait at all to be seated by the hostess. Our waiter didn't speak English that well, so we got another guy who was great and cracked some jokes with us. We all got beers--the weizen was yum and the perfect amount of zingy flavor and hops for my tastes. Beer is literally the best way to destress, amirite? We also got water upon being seated, which was great to keep us awake and rejuvenated. Their restrooms are very clean, although a bit closer in quarters compared to most restaurants back home. I just didn't feel anything spectacular from Steinfels. We didn't have any other dinner place to compare it to in Zurich because we only had one night here, but referencing it to places back in the States and other cities in Europe, this was nothing much to write home about.
