Of course it depends on your taste but I feel the variety had a little something for everyone :) As it's located a bit far back under a big, beautiful rock wall there isn't much sunshine reaching the outdoor seating but on a warm day that can be exactly what you need ;)

Maybe not the best place for my new vegetarian self, but still my guy's definition of heaven on earth :) There is a large outside sitting area and efficient service. Outstanding. I'm a big NEIPA fan and wouldn't normally order this in Europe but decided wth... it was fantastic. The kind of NEIPA I'd order on the regular back home. Also had a Hefeweizen bc I had to. Also great. The food. So they have a small tapas menu but was looking for more, so looked at the dinner menu. Unfortunately the dinners didn't fit in my company allowed price range (Switzerland is way too expensive), so tapas it was! Honestly it was perfect. Cheese w chutney, salami, falafel and some local meatballs. All delicious and filling. Great experience. Just lower your cost Switzerland and I'd try more! I'll return next time I'm in Basel.

I arrived at Matt & Elly during the pre-dinner time when they have a very limited menu. I did not want a burger so I stuck with the beer and the wifi for an hour or two. By the time for the kitchen to open, I was ready to head somewhere else. Delicious craft beers, a friendly bartender who spoke perfect English, a comfortable space to sit inside (heated area outside) and a speedy wifi. This was a superior spot. We sat inside for dinner on our first visit, and came back again for lunch outside the next day. The atmosphere at the Rathaus is warm and typically Swiss, and its views of the Luzern waterfront and Kapellbrücke can't be beat. The food is excellent, from lighter fare like sandwiches on pretzels to more traditional dishes like white sausage with mustard. My brother-in-law ordered two different beers, and said they were the best he's ever had in his life. The most lasting memory for us, however, was our absolutely amazing server on our second visit. She was warm, friendly, funny, and spoke excellent English, giving us tips and recommendations for our Luzern stay. We even shared hugs on our final visit. Don't miss the Rathaus Brauerei--it remains a highlight of our wonderful stay in Switzerland!

For a full meal make sure you get a reservation a day ahead (at least) but for a quick bite on the outdoor patio it's just walk on up! That's what we did - we found a table and sat down. Our server was a delightful young man who spoke full English and was all smiles the entire time. He knew what we wanted without any trouble and he was always around when we needed him. The menu has a ton of great options, you can't go wrong. And everything we had was tasty! The portions are decent and the prices are nothing crazy. But the beer is cold and hits the spot! Speaking of the spot... the outdoor patio is covered (great for any weather) and they even have blankets you can use if you're cold. The views of the Kapellbrücke are phenomenal and you get to just sit back, relax, and take in the sights of the city. Great people watching! We are big, BIG fans of Rathaus and nearly considered it for a second visit on our trip because the dining room looks like a whole experience in itself! Get a reservation or just walk over, you'll love it!
