Yummy Swiss food! Rosti is sort of like hash brown, but less dense. It's like baked shredded potatoes. We add cheese and tomatoes for extra goodness. Spatzli is like pasta, but it's a little too salty. Not sure if it is just at this place or how the dish should be. We still like it tho! And finally is corden bleu veal. Probably my least favorite cuz the ham feels a little dry. Very crispy fries. Portion is huge, so we order 3 plates for 5 people and was very full. As many have said this spot is deff a bit of a tourist trap. It's extremely expensive for what you get. I would have to say this had to have been some of the worst fondue I've ever had. It tasted as if someone poured a bottle of brandy and wine into a pot with as little cheese as possible and didn't cook it. I've been all over Switzerland many times and have to say this was by far the worst food. I was borderline intoxicated from the uncooked alcohol with a splash of cheese. Had a fabulous dinner here! Our hotel concierge recommended this restaurant as we wanted something authentic Swiss. We arrived at 5:45 and were told they were going to be full at 7:30 so we had to eat fast essentially but that timeframe was more than enough. The restaurant did indeed fill up with large groups and couples. Locals and tourists! The menu had English as well so that was great! We order the Gruner salat and it was delicious with a tangy dressing we ordered a medium size to split and it was plenty for 2 to share! For the mail course we for the Lötschberg Fondue and it was beyond decadent, rich and so so good! All the dishes around us looked great as well a local couple next to use got the cordon blue, he said he was dreaming about the dish all day, it looked so good that we thought about going back for lunch. An obvious tourist trap but my friend and I really wanted to try fondue while in Switzerland. While I knew I would love fondue she was more apprehensive so we wanted to split a fondue and another dish. The prices are listed Per Person but you have to buy for at least two people meaning the prices are doubled. There is no reason anyone should be paying upwards of 80 CHF for a pot of cheese. Additionally, the staff was a bit rude, we had to ask for the wine menu and the atmosphere is like you're in a cafeteria. We left and went to Restaurant Harmonie. About a 5 min walk and had an absolutely lovely meal for half the price. I highly recommend Harmonie over this place. read more

We visited after a museum afternoon and even though it was an awkward time of day, there were still lots of people here. We chose the Original Fondue and liked the combination of cheeses in this selection. Came here with my boyfriend and his cousin, who is swiss and recommended this place. A semi-casual restaurant in Switzerland. The staff is friendly and they have an English menu! We had a cheese + meat plate and rösti, specifically bacon and raclette cheese. It's a typical Swiss food which is made of a bed of hash potatoes topped with bacon and cheese. It's so good and the portion is generous, I couldn't finish it. It is so cheesy and yummy, I don't recommend eating this everyday unless you want a heart attack though. 10/10 would come back. Great local place recommended by the Rick Steve guidebook (~20-30ch per main dish). We had the pork cordon bleu and the spatzle with vegetables and cream sauce. Both dishes were hot and tasted pretty fresh. I must say I've had a better cordon bleu when I was in Paris as this one had a bit thicker batter on the outside than I would have liked. My spatzle (small crumbly dumplings) was served piping hot with lots of veggies in a creamy cheesy sauce. I saw others ordering their salads which looked pretty large. Last city in Switzerland before we depart for Berlin so we needed to try Swiss cuisine at least once. Saw that this place had 4 stars on Yelp so I thought we give it a try. I ordered the special for that day which was grilled pork ribs with a side of salad. My friend ordered a bowl of cheesy potatoes. In the US, they have many styles of ribs. But it really comes in two types. Either smothered in BBQ sauce or in a dry rub. The ones that I had at Lotschberg was more like the ladder. It was salty and not sweet like I'm used to but it was still very delicious. As you can see in the picture, there was plenty of ribs to be had. The salad came with an amazing presentation. It made me feel better for enjoying all that ribs for lunch. It came with this dressing that had the right amount of acidity to balance the saltiness of the ribs. Our waitress was very helpful. She even suggested a couple of spots for nightlife. The price for my ribs was ~25 CHF but it was well worth it for the experience. read more

I'm not sure how this place was so bad when the yelp reviews were so high. Did I miss something? First off, service was terrible. They sat us the far back corner away from the door. Sometimes this is okay, like when you're at restaurant where you want privacy, but not when your restaurant smells like gym socks and vinegar. Second, the food was terrible. The hamburger would have been good if they left off the "creative" mix of cheeses. It tasted as bad as the restaurant smelled. Third, I wasn't expecting a $5 side of avocado to just be four slices (and brown to boot). Fourth, the $6 half-liter of water tastes just like tap water. Thanks for the heads-up on that one. Finally, if you order the roast beef, it's just a pile of deli slices (eg cold cuts) and some Bernese fries (aka regular fries). We came here after seeing great reviews online and wanting raclette. We were so disappointed in the raclette here, though! Instead of getting your own grills and lots of dippings, they did this odd set-up where you get "all you can eat," and they bring over individual plates of a single slice of melted cheese and two small potatoes (and then you get one small bowl with some pickled veggies to use the entire evening). Like any restaurant that does all you can eat, where you have to wait for the server to order the next round, the service was slow and we didn't get to really enjoy our meal. We'd eat two bites, then search out the server to ask for the next round, wait a few minutes while they made it, then had two bites, then had to find the server again... it was tiring. The meal was expensive, but it did come with bread and salad. To fill you up, I am sure, on the cheap stuff. Still, we appreciated seeing some salad on vacation. Really, though, we would have appreciated getting all our food up front, not having to ask every two bites for the next two bites. Based on this, I would not recommend the place to tourists looking for raclette. This might be what contemporary raclette looks like, though. And maybe locals love it. And then fondu here looked okay (though not as good as others we saw around Switzerland). read more

My friend and I visited the Lötschberg on a Saturday night. Almost all of the tables were taken but luckily we got two places. We chose the fondue à la maison and a Walliser apero. Both were very tasty and of a good quality. The restaurant itself has a modern style, something you might not expect when thinking about classical Swiss dishes. As for the acoustics (someone mentioned it as problem): I didn't have any problems to understand my friend but it might get difficult with more than two persons. All in all it was a very good evening and we left the restaurant with a full stomach and smiles on our faces. read more

We had fondu for two which came with a plate of thinly sliced dried beef, excellent mixed green salads, and strangely, just one glass of wine. We ordered a second. There really is a lot of food and we had to leave some behind, much to our sorrow. This meal did not explain why we're seeing so few over-weight Swiss. Was visiting Bern and was told this place has the best fondue. Ok great I'll check it out, we make it there and we sat ourselves down. In the fondue section for the large portion it says "2 people" so typically you think it means it's enough for two people. Well think again they charge you that price PER person. So that bill your expecting to be around 54 Euros ($63.00) ends up being more than 108 Euros ($126.00). 2 stars for ok fondue. No stars for getting ripped off. read more

If you are looking for the real swiss deal as far as food and wines go, Lötschberg in Bern will definitely satisfy all your wishes and imagination! Especially the salads but also Raclette an Fondue are clear highlights here. I am still trying to get this delicious vinegrette recipe they're using on the monk's salad. And if you are looking for a private spot for your first date you might want to chose somethong else, as the restaurant tends to be crowded and turns into a dance spot as of 11pm on weekends. On friday and saturday evenings you definitely have to book a table: no chance for the spontaneous lot... I think this place may be a little hit or miss. I would give it an other 1/2 star if I could - It's not the most amazing place I've been to, but based on Bern standards, it's not bad. The salads are actually one of my favorites in the city. They dress them with candied hazelnuts, which is a nice touch. I would make sure you request that they don't over do the dressing - I got the salad once where they put way too much on it. The sandwiches are decent, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there for a sandwich. What I do enjoy here is the atmosphere. The crowd is more local, and the restaurant is open and inviting. It has a "ski-lodge chic"-ness to it. That said, I cant wait to try the raclette and fondue in the winter :) read more

One of the higher rated yelp places we found when bookmarking some options for our 2 day stay in Bern from California. Was sold when a previous review states it was mentioned in a Rick Steves travel book. We are tourists and of course wanted the Swiss must haves. We ordered the cheese fondue (half and half) at $25 F per person. We also ordered the $5 F bowl of meats and nuts to accompany with the bread and cheese. Aside from a large basket of bread a small plate of steamed potatoes is also provided. The cheese was delicious! We wish there had been more variety of foods to dip however. Price was a bit steep for lunch to us, but not for Switzerland, this country is just expensive. They provide menus in English which was a bonus. Service was friendly but a bit slow, I think that's just the European way. Our server actually went outside to have a smoke and then dissappeared at the end of our meal, we had to flag down another lady for the bill.
