My wife took three items for alterations. She had a pair of jeans which were to be shortened and hemmed. They were cut but were never hemmed. She did not check before leaving the store but were shocked when she discovered this. My slacks were to be shortened but were not done to the proper length. The third item was hemming a dress without any need for pinning, just hemming. She was charged $50 just to do this. We won;t be coming back. read more

I took a jacket to have a zipper repaired. They charged $15.00 When I picked it up, they said they couldn't repair it. Would not refund the money they took up front. They said they only give due bills. Bunch of crooks. Take your business elsewhere. Advise the BBB and the Ohio State Atttorney General. Maybe a small thing, but it gets bigger. extremely rude staff with terrible attitude and no interest in helping! I would NEVER GO BACK!! I tried to call there for two days and when I selected "option 3" to speak with a person, it told me the mailbox was full. The automated message and the instructions on their website say you do not need an appointment unless you are altering a wedding gown. I arrived at 6:25PM (they close at 7) with my daughter's prom dress that just needed to be shortened and they refused to fit her. When I explained that I tried to call twice to be sure that I can just come in (even though those are the instructions on their website and their automated message!) since I had a 30 minute drive, they just did not care! TERRIBLE customer service! I asked if they can give me an idea of how much it would cost and after rolling their eyes and giving me an annoyed look, they agreed to look at the dress. The girl with the foreign accent at the front desk yelled over at the other girl and they stated complaining about how much work it would be because of the layers and they started counting and getting further annoyed. I don't know if it's just this location but I went in and It was busy when I went and got changed and waited 20 mins for the lady to tell me all I needed was the elastic changed. I was told Saturday after 5 but got a call Friday that I wouldn't be ready till Wednesday after 5. This place seemed professional from the previous reviews online. I get there and I believe her name is Lisa, was very rude when I asked about putting breast cups in my dress. She immediately said "oh we don't have any cups to fit you". Without asking what size I wore. I wanted to leave but decided to give it a chance. I continued to try various breast cups. Have you tired on your suit or wedding dress? In a time crunch? Avoid this service. My suit was delivered today, tried it on, and it didn't fit correctly. In a panic, I thought this company was my saving grace. I took off the jacket and drove 5 mins to the Mayfield Heights location (i live very close) thinking I'd show them what I was seeing. I was turned away before I could even talk about it. Bc the suit was on my body (I put on the jacket on at the location) they wanted to dry clean it first adding 2 days to my already short timeline. The suit was CLEARLY clean and NEW (tag still on). They sited an OSHA reg that apparently says that you have to change at their location or they must dry clean it. I haven't been able to verify, but they sold it as a health and safety reg to protect workers from dirty clothes. I explained that I just put it on to see if it fit/needed altered, that it was for my wedding, and my time crunch to no avail. Instead of working with me and working in good faith, I was given the old "I'm sorry". Idk if that rule is real or if it's to drive sales by moving you to a higher price point on your alterations (it artificially shortens an already short timeline, AE's price goes up as that timeline shortens). I wish this was policy that they put on their website, so I could have avoided the hassle, or at least put the suit back on the hanger. If it's really something you need quickly and you have tried on your suit or wedding dress, either AVOID this shop and look for another option or learn from my mistake, lie and act like you're weren't excited to try on your wedding day tux. read more

I am only giving 1 star because "no star" is not an option. I took 3 pairs of pants to be shortened. The wait to get the seamstress to mark them was over an hour. I picked up 2 of the 3 pairs a week later with no problem and was told the 3rd pair was not ready, but would be ready the next day. I returned 3 business days later and handed over the tag. The employee was gone in the back for over 1/2 hr. During this time the waiting area was filled with other impatient customers. Finally, the employee returned. She avoided me, so I asked " What about my pants?" She said they were not ready. I asked to see my pants and the manager then came and told me they could not locate them, but would keep looking. I was asked to fill out a "problem order" form. I had noticed a gentleman filling one out for his lost pants as I waited. Supposedly I will be reimbursed for pants - we will see. I will never use Alterations Express again. The wait times and disorganized service are bad enough, but losing your clothing is unacceptable! They did not even apologize. I am just thankful that last year they did not lose my daughters prom dress! I will miss my pants but it would be much worse for someone expecting a professional job done on a garment for a special occasion! read more

I think they did a pretty good job! I have taken pants there for myself, and have been happy with their work. This is my daughter's Easter dress. It was way too low cut in front! Not just for a holiday, but in general, due to the fact that she's in middle school. Because I sometimes wait until the last minute, I needed 24 hour turn around. They were able to get the work done in that time frame, with a 40$ rush. Listen, I needed the dress! I waited until the 11th hour. So what, Im gonna get upset when they practically double the cost of the work? Its my own darn fault. I was just happy they were able to complete it in time for the holiday. So, rush fee it is! They took the shoulder up, and were able to use the extra fabric from that to make a small modesty piece and it really looks cute! If I had to say why no 5 star, it would simply be that the front desk rep could have been a titch more personable. She kinda sorta seemed like she didn't want to be there.. I just breezed passed that tiny observation though, and proceeded with my business. She wasn't rude or mean. That would have warranted a comment. It was just a vibe I got from her, like she didn't really care about me, my daughter, or the cute Easter dress. I would recommend this location though. If you aren't lucky enough to have a family member who can sew, this place is a good bet. read more

Just took five pants and two skirts to this location to be altered and the women who worked on me could NOT have been nicer, especially Amber, the manager. I'm getting a LOT done and my final bill is $204.73, but they have a payment plan with a very reasonable downpayment stipulated on a sign behind the cash register (IIRC, it's 25% down for orders costing more than $50 and 50% down for orders costing more than $100). Beats the heck out of buying a whole new clothes after losing 40+ pounds. read more

We have tried to use this alterations store so many times and have spent thousands of dollars there. We were just too lazy to find someone else. This was the last straw. My husband brought clothes into be altered and again they were to big. She was very insulting and asked why he bought his clothes so big. Who cares why. He wants them tailored a certain way. He has had this happen on many occasions. We went to pick up the clothes they needed to be re-altered and they were not ready like they were suppose to be. We didn't ask for a discount or anything. Express is correct. Alterations are quick. They don't take alot of time to understand or get the fit correct, but you do get the finished product a day or two later. It's also pretty cheap. They have a few very large dressing rooms with mirrors inside. At this location, you can try on your items and someone will come into the fitting room with you to take the measurements. Overall, decent & quick in a pinch, as well as having convenient weekend hours makes this a OK place to get your tailoring done. read more

Wish there was a minus star!! A simple helm on my pants. They couldn't do it right. Made my pants shorter by more than one inch. Then a very arrogant lady tried to charge me for re fixing It with some attachement. I noticed when took home that the thread came out all the way so I took back to them. This arrogant lady told me that it's going to come out after every few washes!! With absolutely no apologies for messing up the job for first time. Instead she was showing me the favor that she offered to fix the mistake she had made the first time..even started shouting!! Now my expensive pants is ruined!! Prom nightmare- I recently took my daughters Prom dress to Alterations Express, Mayfield Hts., OH location last week for the train and sides taken in and a floor length hem. After several months of searching for a dress and 7 weeks to arrive, Alterations Express ruined it in 4 days. We received a ankle length and little to no train dress. The manager apologized, suggested we get a shorter heel shoe and offered a refund for only the hem. Me and my daughter were in disbelief. After arriving home and trying to calm down my daughter, we examined the leftover material and noticed the original markings were still on the material. The Seamress cut above the line making the dress shorter. I returned to the store the next day and explained to the manager this was unacceptable and asked for a full refund, which I received. Suggesting I spend additional money for a error the company caused is a insult. read more

This Alterations Express locations is terrible! They gouge you on price (there is no price list; it is completely arbitrary) and the quality of their work is not good. On one occasion, they ruined a hem on my jeans, which are now unwearable. I pointed this out to them and, not only did they not accept responsibility and blamed ME for it, but they would not give me a refund for ruining my pants. On another occasion, I just needed a slider on a zipper replaced (a cheap fix). They told me since they didn't have the right size slider, they would have to remove and replace the entire zipper, which would be $34, and it would take a week. I asked them why I would have to pay so much just because THEY didn't have the part, but they said that's the price the manager decided, and she sets the prices. I went to the other Alternations Express location on Chagrin, where they fixed the slider for a third of the price, and in two days. I was also told by a staff member that when you pick up your alteration, if you take it home without trying it on again in store, they have the right to charge you again if you bring it back because they didn't do the alteration correctly. Sometimes the lines are so long to get a dressing room (I've waited 45 mins-hour before) that you just don't have the time to wait to try on the garment again. Avoid this location!! read more

Ridiculous price gouging and poor customer service service sum up my experience. Unfortunately zero stars isn't an option for this review because that would be my choice. I recently took in a blazer to have the lining replaced. I explained to the woman at the register what I needed. She took the jacket in the back to someone and returned with a price of $75! I was shocked to say the least. Even the woman at the register said to me, "you could catch a sale and buy two jackets for that price". I agreed. Here's the best part...to add insult to injury, I was told that in addition to paying $75 I would have to go out and buy my own lining fabric and bring it back for them to do the work. Really? Are you kidding me?! You are in the business of doing alterations. Just like you have needles and thread you should have fabric for linings in your inventory!! Of course, I decided not to have the work done. I left the store disappointed that I would finally have to part with my favorite blazer. On the way home, I spotted an alterations sign in the window of a neighborhood dry cleaner. I decided to stop in for a 2nd opinion. To my surprise, I was quoted a price of $30 and...bonus... they provided the fabric! Needless to say, I let the seamstress at the dry cleaner do the work. My jacket was ready in 3 days, the worksmanship was impeccable and at a full $45 less than Alterations Express. I went back to Alterations Express to speak to the manager about my experience. I was told she was in a meeting and I would have to wait . Not willing to do that, I conveyed my experience to the person at the counter who it was clear could have cared less. I have shared my experience with at least 10 other people so far and counting. I will not be returning to this store. read more

I purchased a dress for a banquet that I had to attend. The banquet was on a Sunday and I didn't receive my dress until Friday. The dress had all type flaws and was totally made poorly. I brought in 2 pairs of jeans. One to be hemmed and the other to have it taken in at the waist. The work was so good, I couldn't tell which was which. I expected just a dart to be done at the waistline, but instead I think they opened it at the seam so it would be totally invisible. The store is clean and bright. The dressing rooms are clean, no pins on the floor, etc. I'm very happy with their work and plan on coming back again. read more

When you go to a tailor shop to have your clothing altered you would think a tailor/seamstress would do your measurements, right? Went in to have my bridal shower dress tailored....nightmare. A girl behind the counter took my measurements (little did I know she was not a seamstress), when I went back 2 days later as instructed, the dress was not done. Came back next day, a different lady then originally waited on me (still not a seamstress) handed me the dress and said thanks have a nice day. I asked if I could try it on to ensure it fits properly. Glad I did, it was too big. I asked if it could be fixed and the lady consulted with a seamstress (finally a seamstress. I could hear them snickering behind the counter about what to do, they came back and said it was not their fault and had to charge me for a second alteration. By this point I paid 2x's what the dress cost, but needed it to be done since my event was in two days, I feel like I had no choice but to have them try and fix it. Came back a 3rd time to pick it up and I was still not satisfied, it was still too big. I had to buy inserts in order to fill the dress out. I even contacted the online service the website has and no one reached out....POOR customer service. Will NEVER return!!!!!!!!!!! WASTE OF $$$ read more

I have spent a lot of money bringing large and small alternations to this location. It was convenient and usually quick. On many occasions I had to have the alterations redone. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!! I had an expensive pair of jeans taken in at the waist and they made them look ridiculous!! If they could not do it properly they should of called me to let me know it was not going to look right. They did not have the correct color thread and still went ahead. They cut the jeans and it could not be put back. I was so upset and did not have the energy to demand they pay for my jeans. They did not even offer to make up for it.
