Nice shop looks professional , clean , organized . Brought in a 3 piece Nordstrom suit bought online needing alterations. Charge $12 hem slacks . Alter jacket 60$ vest 20$ must pay with cash or check no credit cards. Will update upon return . I have confidence they do a professional satisfactory alteration . I have been coming here for YEARS. They have probably altered over 30 pieces of clothing for me and have a fast turn at. Helping, zippers, rips/tears, taking clothes in, etc. they have done it all for me. And Great customer service. And Sometimes if it's something small, like a zipper they will fix it while I wait. Worst service ever!!! Lost 2 pairs of my pants and EXTREMELY rude customer service. Walked in to pick up my dress and did not tell me it was cash only (sketch?) and shooed me out until I brought my card. I'm appalled at how rude they are and was allowed to pay card previously. I have a seamstress in town who did my wedding dress, but she is a little pricey, so I sought out someone a bit more affordable and accessible to hem a cocktail dress that I wanted to bring on an upcoming trip. I came in around 5p on a Wednesday, and Tam saw me right away to mark the dress. She was very nice, as were the other two ladies working, but I did have a tough time understanding her. She did a great job on my dress and I was able to pick it up the following Monday in plenty of time for my trip. Prices are reasonable, and they have decent hours, 9-6 Monday through Saturday. They do not accept debit or credit cards at all, so prepare to pay with cash or check when you pick up. read more

I love these ladies - they are talented seamstresses, but you have to be very specific with them as to what you want done! as they have their own opinion, on what to do, and it usually doesn't match what I want done. Oh and I made an appointment during covid to pick up an order and they were making masks for the community first responders and nurses etc. So again, nice ladies! read more

I brought in a dress that I needed to be tighter around the waist & when I came back a week later it was basically unchanged & I was told that they weren't able to do anything. Not sure why I wasn't told this during the first consultation or why I was charged for basically nothing. read more

Alterations by Tam is definitely the place to go. Sure, the cash only part can be a pain and sometimes the language barrier gets in the way, but ultimately, they do a great job. The staff is really nice and straight forward. They work quick so don't be offended if they don't want to chit chat with you while their taking your measurements. They mean business! They won me over when I took a very expensive Vera Wang dress in for alterations. The neckline on the dress was so high it made me feel claustrophobic, and they fixed this dress. I was super nervous about the alterations since it was for a wedding, but their craftsmanship is second to none. I've also brought in jeans, dress pants and blazers for my boyfriend. Paid $75 for a simple chiffon dress to be hemmed. They measured the length and everything with my shoes on. My BF picked up the dress the night before our engagement photos and it was nearly 4" too long with the same heels I had brought in. It dragged under my shoes and was horrible! I look at the lining and the spare button that comes with the dress was still at the bottom of the dress, leading me to believe IT WAS NOT EVEN ALTERED! They made us pay in cash, and there was no receipt offered. THIS PLACE IS THE WORST AND I WOULD NOT TRUST THEM WITH ANYTHING. ESPECIALLY not a wedding dress!!!! read more

I essentially decided to give Alterations by Tam a chance because they opened earlier than most other tailors around town, and I needed a place I could stop by before work. I am pretty happy with my choice. I went in to get a skirt taken in, which I think is probably a pretty simple fix, and they did a great job. Fitting took 10 minutes maximum, and they had the skirt ready in less than a week for what felt like a reasonable price ($20? I'm terrible at adulthood and have no idea). WAY overpriced. Maybe cuz I'm used to big cities doing about 5 garments for what they charge for 1... I remember dropping off a new dress from Bebe and trying to get it smaller aroudn my back. Not only did they mess up and refuse to acknowledge that (it left a huge gap in the front making the breast part wrinkly and full of gaps and just a whole crazy mess instead of sleek and smooth like when it was new!)... now if you cant sew something then say you cant- many places in town openly say that fully aware theyd be losing more customers than keeping one and i admire that and usually give those places a second chance with things they can do for my garments or boots. ..... so when I go to pay for the outrageous price- $50 (WTF?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) they tell me they only take Cash or Check... I dont know about you but its 2013... WTH?? who carries a checkbook and why cant you get a regular merchant account or square... In keeping with the spirit of my unwavering idiocy, I'd purchased a dress that didn't fit me right for a wedding, but failed to come to terms with this till 2 days beforehand. Enter "Alterations by Tam", another great Yelp find. The dress was not easy to work with - a busy pattern of silk Georgette with pleats and darts right over the chest, which made me look like an over-the-hill lactating water buffalo, as I didn't possess the necessary *mammary appendages* to fill up the vacant cups. The solution - to make cuts on the straps and take them up. These people are professionals, experienced in dealing with dorky people who buy ill-fitting clothes - this is how their business thrives. I was promised the dress by next day, and within 24 hours had a dress that fit me much better than before, boobs and all. And it all cost...wait for it...$18.00! While the alteration made the dress MUCH BETTER than what it was before (and consider what the poor seamstress was working with to begin with) - the pleats didn't fall *perfectly* on one side, and the left and right sides were a bit uneven. However, for $18.00 and a 24-hour turnaround on a spastic dress, it was a great job. However, if I had something extravagant, like a full-length evening GOWN, I would consider going to a more specialized tailor, or at least give Tam a bit more time. Their location right across from the Tucson Mall is a plus too. read more

I was in a pinch and needed a dress hemmed in less than 24 hours, b/c I was off to a wedding and of course waited until the last minute to go shopping. For me, that's kind of typical. I called first to get an (rough) estimate before deciding to drive over. I was quoted $10-15 for the hem and told it could be done in 24 hours, no additional cost. So, I decided to drive over. There was a wait, there are only two changing rooms and there were three people ahead of me. There is only on person who pins dresses, but three or four ladies who sew. The dress was repinned a few times, then chalked and I was a little apprehensive as to the final line, so she asked me how much longer, didn't rechalk, pin or take note. The actual cost was $20, which for the work that was done, was well worth it. The dress was perfect. I walked in and they knew what I was there to pick up and brought it over, I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I have a pile of things I need to bring over and am excited that the dress didn't dethread while I wore it. NOTE TO NON-CASH PEOPLE: THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH OR CHECK, NO CREDIT CARDS. read more

They do great work here for reasonable prices. I have brought alot of my jeans here to be hemmed since I apparently cannot find jeans I like for my height. They measured me right there in all my jeans to make sure they did the job right. I've also brought them some jeans I couldn't part with that were worn out in the seams. They reinforced them and you can't even tell they were altered at all. I discovered this tailor when I lived up the street. I've used a number of alteration shops until I found Tam's. Most were more expensive too for sometimes less quality work. This place does great work. Their normal turn around time is 4-5 days but they can do a "rush" job. Just offer to pay a little extra for a rush job. They may or may not charge for it. They can do Scout uniforms very well. I am very picky about how I want patches sewn on and to be in precise places. Tam's gets it right every time. read more

I'd recently purchased some jeans and was looking to get them hemmed, but also keeping the original hem intact. The lady at the boutique gave me a business card for Alterations by Tam and off I went. I walked in, changed, and got measured, all three pairs, within 10 minutes (I was the only one there). I was given a turnaround time of a few days, not a problem. THANK GOODNESS I noticed the clear-as-mud sign "CASH ONLY" on my way out. That would have been a huge inconvenience when I'd come back. When I returned for my jeans, I showed her my ticket and pointed to the bag I'd brought my jeans in (and had left there), but that wasn't my order, they'd taken my bag and used it for someone else's! Not a huge deal, but I was kind of annoyed because it was a really nice bag (albeit just from a department store). I didn't ask for it back, so that's on me. Overall, I'd use them again, knowing that there will be a minor cash annoyance and a small language barrier. They did a great job hemming my pants and I'm really happy. read more

I'll call my rating 3.5 stars. They did a great job taking in a dress that was a size too big. Fast 2-day turnaround. Cons: They don't take credit cards. Also, I had to have the woman re-pin the dress 2 or 3 times to get it where I wanted. "I think it looks fine," she'd say. But it wasn't as snug as I wanted. I just found them on Yelp and I'm really glad I did. I've had them fix a hem on my skirt and take in the shoulders on a wool coat I purchased. They did a great job on both and when I told them I was going on vacation and wanted to take the coat they were super nice and made sure to have it done before I left. For no extra cost! This is a straight-forward place to go for alterations. There aren't usually long waits to be attended to and you can expect a quick turnaround on your alterations. The prices are fair. The only thing that keeps me from giving this place a 5th star is that the English of the employees is not optimal. That can make inquiries about prices difficult. But at least it's not Hem & Her, which is a whole different story. Tip: keep your ticket. It makes things easier. read more

I have had so many dresses and pants fixed here. However, the last time I took a gown the younger woman in charge insisted that my gown should be long enough even though I was telling her I wanted it shorter, so I don't step on it when dancing at a wedding. She also was somehow not pleased with my request and ENDING UP over charging me. When the gown was done, I tried it at home and the length of the gown was barely touching the floor. I took it back and they didn't fixed for free. They charged me again. Thus, I had to pay twice since the tailor had an attitude and was not able to do my wish.
