I had a horrible experience here, specifically with Elena. I came in for a simple alteration--literally just taking about an inch off the bottom of my dress--and she tried to charge me $110. For something that minor, that price felt completely unreasonable. When I said never mind, her attitude completely changed. Instead of being professional, she told me I "wasted her time" and made a comment implying that if I didn't have the money, I should've said that from the start. That was extremely disrespectful and uncalled for. On top of that, the way she spoke to me felt very targeted and honestly came across as racist. The tone, the assumptions, and the level of disrespect were not okay. Customer service like this is unacceptable. You should be able to ask about pricing and decline without being insulted or made to feel uncomfortable. I will not be returning. read more

Seeing some of these negative reviews is mind blowing to me, I have been coming to Elena for COMPLEX repairs (ie. Rick Owens, Margiela, Balenciaga) and tailoring, she has not once failed at something or not kept her promise on a deadline. As for the people claiming they didn't receive their items on time or things not being done properly. If you want something specific you should.. specify Need your item for a specific day? Let her know Didn't get a call? Follow up yourself, nobody has to remind you to follow up on the sheet your boss told you to have by end day. Elena is a 10/10 seamstress very very experienced in what she does very attentive and posses skills I haven't seen from anyone else in the county much less in Dade county. I was referred here, unfortunately. The old woman who works here has zero personality, first off. No greeting, just stares at you. I brought pantsuit in 3/2, needed for 3/31 bday/Easter. I called on 3/21 she said it would be ready following week. I told her I'd be there 3/29. When I arrived, she stared for awi and then said " I've been too busy I haven't had time to work on it". I reminded her that I called her last week and then I needed it for this coming weekend. I guess she totally spaced out and forgot, and told me to pick it up on Tuesday, April 2 needless to say I had to come up with another outfit for my birthday/Easter. on April 2, one month later, I arrived, tried on the outfit, and it was exactly as it was when I dropped it off. She said she wasn't able to do anything with it because there wasn't enough fabric. It was a size 4 pants suit that just needed the shoulders adjusted and the pants taken in in the hips. Nothing was done! She wanted to charge me $75! I told her I wouldn't pay that much since she didn't do anything. She said fine, then just leave it here. I said, I'm not leaving clothing that I own, so she said fine just take it don't even pay for it -so I did! Do not go to this place, it is a complete disaster area, disorganized, and poorly run. I don't know how she stays in business. She may want to consider retiring. I think her days of working are over. Clearly, she is not well to work. read more

I'll be out of town next week, but I can come the week after.' 'Okay, I will call you when they're ready.' 3 weeks pass. No call. I show up 4/16. I need my dress for a wedding. Dress is done. Fits alright. Seam looks weird. Strings are hanging about. Strings look rushed and sloppy. 'Um, your dress is ready, but I did not get to your shirt or skirt. I will have it for you next week and call you. Could I get your number again?' One week passes. Still no call. Never a single call. Items that were to take 1 week have taken over five. How many weeks will it take? Can't wait to find out. I paid $105 for this btw. Wouldn't pay $10 with this service. read more

Elena has great skill! Came in 5-14 and told her i needed it by 5-31, she told me that it would be ready 5-22 ; gave me 2 and a half weeks. She quickly started working on it and called me up on 5-22 EXACT and was PERFECT with the dates. This place is a joke. I'm blown away by how poorly I was treated here. I came in with a trench coat to find out if it could be altered and how much the alterations would be. From the minute I walked in the seamstress treated me like I was a nuisance. I began by trying to talk to her about why I had come in and the item I had brought, and she brushed me off to a dressing room on the side to take a customer that had come in after me. I put on the coat and proceeded to try to talk to her about it, and she continued to ignore me for a solid 5 minutes. When she FINALLY decided to deign me with her attention she said, "Well why didn't you just buy a smaller size??" I explained how it was the last size left and asked whether the sleeves could be shortened and the shoulders brought in, and she said it would be "too much work". Too much work?? Isn't that kind of what you're here for?? Wouldn't even quote me a price or explain what the alterations would entail. She treated me like a bothersome child that she couldn't wait to shove out the door. On top of all this, they appeared to have a serious leak going on. The shop is the size of a postage stamp and uncovered delicate garments are hanging around haphazardly all over - it's a total recipe for disaster. She had a stack of garments laying on the seating area and when customers came in she took all of them and carelessly tossed them to the side - absolutely NOT how I would want someone to treat my clothing. I'll be taking my business elsewhere - you couldn't pay me to leave my clothes here. I'd give this place zero stars if I could. read more

I had four items recently altered/repaired by Elena. Nothing major. I had the straps of two bathing suits shortened and the hem on both a shirt and a pair of shorts repaired. She did an excellent job on all four items. It is a little confusing finding this location. We had to enter near Walgreens and drive around to the stores behind it. However, Alterations by Elena is in the back of the strip mall. In other words, you will see a strip mall behind Walgreens and Alterations by Elena is on the backside of the strip mall. Keep this in mind especially if you are using a GPS as it can be a bit confusing at first. I would definitely return to Elena for additional alterations when needed. One last note, she said she would call when done with the work but never did, so we simply headed there to pick the stuff up with our receipt and we're happy to discover it all ready and waiting newly altered. read more

We stood there for a couple minutes and when she finally looked up, I started explaining what my mother needed since my mother does not speak English. I called this place and even though I was going to get there 10 minutes before closing, they still invited me in and helped me figure out what adjustments I needed to make for this costume to fit me perfectly. It was such a quick process, but not once did I feel rushed. When I came back the next morning, I tried it on and it fit JUST the way I imagined! Dropped off one pair of jeans for hemming. Price was right at $15.00 to hem the pants. No wait to have the hem marked. Parking was right out front and very convenient. The shop seemed clean and that's always nice. Who wants to drop brand new clothing in a dirty shop? Elena's hours seem reasonable, I believe the door said 9:00-5:00 weekdays, maybe one weekend day but I'm not sure. One of the issues I've been having for years at the local alterations shops are irregular hours. Nothing worse than showing up at a store to find them closed during regular business hours. My son plays on a 12 and under co-ed volleyball team at Hurricane Volleyball. We needed to have the sleeves of his two jerseys removed so they looked like boys jerseys but still matched the team. I stopped by Alterations By Elena and dropped them off Tuesday morning. I asked Elena if she could get them done by Friday, or at least the one he needed to wear for a tournament on Saturday. She said she could get it done. Price was $15 per jersey which I thought to be very reasonable. I stopped by Friday morning to see if it was done yet. Elena said not yet, but she would get both done and to come after 2 pm to pick them up. I came a little after 3 pm and they were done. The jerseys look GREAT. You can't tell they were made with sleeves originally. She removed the sleeves and took the shoulders in slightly just how I asked, and both were done exactly the same. One was more difficult to do since it had longer sleeves with a side panel all the way up the jersey and the sleeve. She had to cut it in the appropriate way and make sure it didn't stick out under the armpit area. She could have made a basic cut and left it sticking out, but she took the time to make sure it was done correctly. Finding her shop isn't bad, just know that it's in a shopping area where there are several buildings and lots of small shops. Give yourself a few minutes to drive through and find it. Her shop is a few buildings behind the CVS on University Drive (near the intersection with Sunrise). Well worth the drive!!! read more

I came here due to a recommendation and am so utterly disappointed and livid. She cut my gown too short and blamed it on me because I wasn't wearing heels when she has a ledge to stand on for height measurements and we agreed on where it was marked. She told me she would have it ready (mind you I dropped it off two weeks in advance) by Saturday hence I needed it for a wedding Sunday. When I called on Friday to check up on her she said no come Monday after I clearly told her ignore my other five pieces til whenever and just do my dress first which she didn't. I feel she then rushed the job and was sloppy and reckless. When I tried it on and saw how short it was she got mad and refused to continue working with me and complained that she now has to do double work for the same pay and did NOT fix my other two pieces that I left with her. She charged my hem 60$ and to stitch down some embroidery and cut some fly aways she than claimed she couldn't stitch down the embroidery and still charged me 60$ Worst service worst job horrible attitude and she doesn't deserve my money and I'm so pissed off that a manadalay dress that was over $2000 now looks like garbage and can never be used again. read more

I went here solely based on online reviews. I paid $75 to have a dress hemmed and ironed, when I picked it up it was only hemmed, no ironing. Also as with every service business I paid for the alteration when I dropped my dress off. I gave Elena $75 cash and she gave me a handwritten paper receipt but when I went to pick up the dress she told me I never paid. I said of course I did here is my receipt and she said that it was not a receipt because it didn't have PAID written on it. She would not let me leave and I absolutely needed that dress so I had to pay again $75 this time I put it on my credit card though. The dress only cost $80 at the store..... spent $150 on alterations I mean what a mistake. Would never go back even though the alteration was perfect and completed in only 7 days. read more
