I've been living at Altana for the past four years, and it has truly been a delight. From the beautifully designed units to the ideal location right next to downtown Glendale, plus the great amenities and secured parking, my overall experience has been excellent. While there are the occasional residents who tend to speed in the parking garage (still not sure why!), everything else has been smooth and enjoyable. Throughout my time here, I've had the pleasure of meeting amazing staff members across leasing, maintenance, and janitorial. Everyone has consistently been kind, patient, and helpful. Anytime I've had a concern or needed something addressed, the Altana team has responded quickly, especially the maintenance staff, who are always prompt and efficient. I'd like to give a special shoutout to Elizabeth Francisco, Jessica Mendez, Salina Garcia, and Ariana (who no longer works there) for their outstanding service and attentiveness. Unsafe community that impedes police investigations into package theft. Main office is full of liars who make material misrepresentation regarding the facts of a case, allowing residents to be target and stolen from. Feeling incredibly unsafe in this community and the management does nothing to solve this, instead they add to the stress and make life more difficult in an already difficult situation. Apartment now charges $150 per use of previously free amenity. Don't move here. They charge for everything that used to be included. Absolute insanity. They don't respect their residents. The building claims this fee is for parties only. The form we received says it must be filled out for any number of guests any time we wish to use the room. If not, how are we as residents supposed to use the roof? Fill out a form every time? Deduct $150 every time? Or just send someone up to open the door to the room we pay for. Ridiculous. read more

Avoid This Place -- Not Worth the Stress I've been leasing here for several months and cannot wait for my lease to end. I will absolutely not be renewing, and I feel obligated to warn anyone considering this place: do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. The management is truly awful. They don't reply to emails, they never answer phone calls, and they certainly don't return messages. Good luck finding anyone in the office -- it's like a ghost town unless you're a new prospect. During the tour, they're friendly, helpful, and responsive. But once your lease is signed? That's the last time you'll feel acknowledged. From that point on, you're completely on your own. On top of that, every single week the fire alarms go off -- sometimes at midnight, 2 a.m., or even later. These are not short or quiet incidents; they are loud, jarring, and completely destroy any chance of restful sleep. Management has done absolutely nothing to resolve this recurring issue or even communicate with residents about it. Living here has been a frustrating, stressful experience. I have lived at Altana for just shy of 7 years so I think it would be fair to say I like the place. For me the neighbourhood, the Altana community and the safety of the area are three main contributing factors that have kept me here so long. For the most part it is quiet and outside of the recent water mains catastrophe, it is relatively incident free. As far as staffing is concerned sadly the turnover seems somewhat high and it can become easy to forget who is who. Jessica Mendez I must say has stood out since she has joined the team. She is a pleasure to deal with, nothing is ever too much and she has always greeted me with warmth. Whilst touring the building with prospective residents, she will always make an effort to say hello to existing residents seemingly remembering most by name which is pretty impressive! What stands out most for me is the fact she will also greet you on entering the leasing office even if she is tied up with other work, something I have seldom seen over the years. She has made a noticeable impact within this community and I hope she remains for as long as she chooses to work here. read more

Update. Every single time they will steal your security deposit and/or try to get you pay beyond it with bogus allegations of cleaning costs. Doesn't matter if it's spotless or not, don't expect a dime back. Take video and pictures because they are shady. I called them out on their lies about me owing beyond my security deposit because I had proof after the 3rd lease of being stolen from. The apartment itself is fine. Since COVID is happening, I was not able to use amenities so can not speak on those. As others have mentioned, parking is horrible here. Also, customer service is horrible. I had on multiple occasions had someone in my parking spot. It would always be after hours when I got home from work, so I would call the after hours number and be told that there is nothing they can do after hours and to just park somewhere else. I specifically asked if they knew if any other spots that were currently open because I didn't want to park in someone else spot and get towed. They reiterated they cannot approve tows and to just park anywhere. This occurs on 3 separate occasions and one the forth time, i did not bother to call and get the same useless information. When I got up to go work my car was missing. I waited for the office to open to ask about my car and they were adamant they did not approve any tows. I filed a police report for a stolen car. My friend who was off was able to call around and find out that their tow company did indeed tow my car. I'm trying to deal with all of this while also working as a COVID crisis response nurse. On top of everything, when I called to speak to the office they implied I was lying about what I previously was told. He kept saying, "nobody working here would EVER saw that." I literally have no reason to lie about that and aren't your phone calls recorded for quality insurance? Just listen to them back. By the time I'm able to get to the impound lot to pick up my car it has incurred $500 in fees. I verify with the tow agency that the apartment had authorized my car being towed 3 HOURS after I had parked there. I report this to them requesting to be reimbursed. They now are insinuating im a liar, stating they had given me a 24 hour notice (which they did not), and refusing to reimburse me. Luckily for me, I won't have to deal with this company any more since I was here for a short crisis relief contract and am now headed to the next hot spot to assist. Just goes to show that companies like to seem caring and compassionate but at the end of the day will take advantage of anybody. read more

GREYSTAR, DO BETTER! Unfortunately, as much as I want to give a great review, I can't. Gresytar is the management company. It's always hit or miss with them because they manage only and do not own the properties; at least, that's been my experience. At first, it seemed great, but then the realities started setting in. Upon moving in, there was and continues to be a horrible smell in the hallways of old, rotten trash. They haven't figured out how to clean the trash bins properly so we're left with a stench of garbage all through the garage and the hallways. It's pretty embarrassing every time you invite someone over and have to walk them through the valley of the stench of death. As If that's not bad enough, the garage is full of soot which forces us to bring it into our apartments when we walk in. They literally had the first level of the garage cleaned where the visitors and new residents park, but not the upper levels where the residents park their cars. Priorities are absolutely backward on this one. Basically management is saying, "we know it has to be cleaned; we just won't be cleaning the parking spots of those who live here. OH and YOU can't pay for someone to clean your parking spot either because we don't want the water to go all over the garage." It's infuriating. If you enjoy the luxury of good water pressure in your apartment, then this isn't the place for you. When I moved in, they informed us that they usually get to their service request within 48 hours. It's been a week and a half, and my water pressure flows with no urgency at all; it'll get there when it can. As you can see, writing this review isn't going to prompt them to do anything about any of this because others have complained about similar things, and we're still talking about it, but at least you, the reader, might still have a chance. Had photos and videos of the apartment being PRISTINE before I left, which management consistently ignores. California law prohibits landlords from charging for normal wear and tear (including repainting and cleaning), which they claim they HAD to do (they really didn't). I live here now for about 3 month. As I understand the management changed not too long ago, beginning of this year. What means there is still a bit clean up to do. Like the parking situation is in process to get structured and organized. BUT! Nothing what is really effecting me as a tenant. The assistant manager Ngozi (I probably misspelled her name SORRY!) is amazing and always helpful and friendly, as well as the girls in the front, Brenda & Stephany who are the key ladies on "the front". We have situations that tenants don't respect the property or other tenants, but management and if necessary security takes care of those individuals. Cleaning Crew - Great. Our place / our home is as it looks in the pictures. Its not really an apartment building but more like a wellness resort. Maintanance - I don't think I have ever experienced a maintenance crew like that. Treat em with respect and as friends and you get the same back. They are all just amazing. If there is a problem, it will be fixed within a blink of an eye. Where else can you text maintenance and ask him to help you with your desk, because you want to move it in your apartment. But they are all just outstanding. I don't see them as maintenance workers but as friends. The same it is with the rest of the crew at Altana. What else did I forget. I love my apartment. I love the amenities and abilities we have here. My friends always love to come over, since it is a very respectful and relaxing place. Neighbors are cool. I already made a lot of friend. Yes, not the cheapest place, but you are not paying only a rent, you buy freedom and being part of a community / family. Yes, some people don't follow the rules and think / say this place sucks. Well, those are probably the ones who should just not live here in order to give everyone else the living they want and deserve. One last thing. The screening is solid and not easy at all, high requirements. But for a good reason, and as I said, some people shouldn't live here and the requirements should be even more strict. But Altana is doing great and takes care of us tenants. So to all future residents who might be interested. If you can handle a luxury living space and are able to respect rules as well as treat the place as if it were your own and your neighbors as if they were your friends (many might actually become friends), then check it out and get a feeling. I hate doing this, I almost never write a negative review, I see it as petty and a waste of energy and time but this community is a joke and everyone staffed here with the exception of Jessica could not care less about their jobs and its very evident. I myself was a regional property manager for 13years over seeing Commercial buildings and Residential properties, my staff would have never gotten away with half of the things that go on here. Every neighbor I talk to feels the same way and with new complexes popping up daily not sure this is the reputation this place needs. Here is a list of events we personally experienced just in the 2 months: 1. Someone called the leasing office claiming my car was parked in their parking space, it was not their space it was our units no one checked, no one confirmed this was his space and my car was towed out of my own space! Mind you more than 90% of the time cars park on the onramp where its not even a parking space and can cause accidents but these cars are not towed! 2. We submitted a maintenance request because our sink was clogged and not draining water, making it not only a health hazard as we had a sink full of dishes and backed up food debris but so we can not cook at home, the request was submitted once on Monday with no response or action and then a second the following day. Finally on Thursday we checked in and were told the request was "closed out" so without anyone even bothering to come up to the unit they just closed it out and if we were more patient we would be sitting here with a broken sink. We should not need to follow up something 3 times to have any action. 3. Our packages were up in the wrong locker, we had the photo of them being delivered and asked the leasing office to open the locker so that we can get the package out, "The lockers are a vendor call them or amazon"... ummm, yes your vendor! You call them! 4. Because the parking is a mess and no one actually has any control over it, someone was parked in my space and so I parked in another spot I had noticed was empty for a while now, guess it was not and without a note, email or any notice my car again was towed. 5. Several of my neighbors leases have expired over 6 months ago, no one from your staff has sent a renewal letter, raised our rent to the month to month pricing or done anything at all. The negligence here is not only costing you retention but also causes loss of potential income. It is very clear that everyone here just wants to clock in, sit there doing as little as possible and clock out. I finally moved out 3 months ago. I followed all instructions to leave the apartment. I clean the apartment better than I receive it. Call maintenance twice to verify with them possible charges and that everything was ok. They told me that they only needed to clean the carpet and do a partial painting.. Surprise surprise, after a month I receive an invoice where not only I won't receive back my deposit but I am also supposed to pay charges for - past utilities where I always paid them on time and the invoice doesn't even mentioned the dates but just previous utitlies - charges for cleaning -charges for countertop damage where I have a video of when I left the apartment that everything is fine After having a conversation with the representative they haven't been able to provide any proof of this charges. An invoice is not a proof that the work needed to be done or there was damage. To Existing Residents: Did you know we had a new general manager, Susan? Probably not because the building never sends out an email introducing new staff to their tenants. Either way the point is moot -- Susan is no longer here. Yup, lasted less than 30 days. (FAIL) Did you feel the last two earthquakes? Were you scared and concerned for your safety? Would you have expected building management to send am email announcement reminding residents of emergency evacuation procedures and perhaps points of interest about the buildings structural integrity? (FAIL) To Prospective Residents: Undoubtably your tour of Altana will be amazing. If you've done your due diligence you'll quickly realize the amenities are among the best around. Your leasing manager will be kind, attentive, and promise you the moon. What you will not know until you sign a lease is the attention they give to prospects is at the cost of existing residents. The attentiveness you enjoyed will disappear, the promised made will be challenged unless it's in writing, and the kindness will be replaced with distain and attitude. You'll undoubtably see a lobby full of residents all waiting for issues to be resolved that have been put off. Whether it's leasing issues, package pickups, or other. You may have a sense for this if you've tried and failed to contact and schedule your walk through with the office OR once you've arrived you were forced to wait much much longer than expected. Or even when you put in a deposit it can take weeks of followup just to get your lease details. These issues are not unique to you. This is just another sign of things to come. You've already said 'yes', so their attention moves to the next prospect. Don't forget these individuals are paid to sign leases -- period. At some point you're going to weight your options. Perhaps you'll overlook the immense amount of reviews on Yelp! for the amenities. Just realize however the amenities have been down for months with no repairs in the near future. read more

If you guys have a car you care about you should consider before moving here. The long story short cars are being constantly vandalized by someone and we don't have cameras in the garage. I attempted to talk to the managers about this issue with no luck. And I see damaged cars almost everyday. With drawings, cigs butts on the hood and spilled coffee ON THE CARS! This garage is not safe, it's not comfortable to walk there even to your own car, because whatever happens there are no cameras for you. I've recently seen car with stolen wheels, I reported it numerous times and yet we don't have cameras. BONUS the entire floor is a huge trash can where people dispose food, cups and whatever they feel like. I guess it's easy to solve by simply installing a few trashcans, but no why? Instead we have all the parking spots reassigned, new rules, new non responsive managers every month even new security company that doesn't make any difference and new cars being damaged. read more

Trash of a building and trash management. I do not recommend this place. Me and my fiance were looking for a place to live for the year and we went up and down Central avenue to see which we like most. The building is dirty with trash piled up in all trash cans with no one in sight to empty them. Management specifically a lady named Dulce started off as a nice person but later turned to a sketchy misleading person. She would avoid answering our questions relating to renting terms and about the security of the building. She misled us to believe that certain things were ok then later switched it out under us. Out of all the buildings on central Altana had by far the worst customer service. Additionally, Altana was the only building that did not allow the addition of a second parking spot. When we asked Dulce about a solution to that she told us that tenants commonly pay $50 a month for off-site parking but after a week of searching i realized there's only one parking lot that allows monthly rentals and it was in the amount of $200 a month, don't fall for this lie. Additionally, if you read other reviews you will be quick to find out that there are a number of tenants who have had their car wheels stolen right out of the gated parking lot leading me to believe that they were stolen by other tenants. When this topic was brought up to Dulce she played with her words to make us believe that was a one-time occurrence when you can very clearly see in these reviews that is a lie. If you want good management go to literally any other building on central ave. Amli has amazing customer service same with Modara and Onyx. They go over the top to make you happy and make your move easier. Additionally, Amli has much larger floor plans for the same price and also allows you to add additional parking spots for a small fee of $80 a month. The same goes for Modera and Onyx. Don't bother with Altana you'll end up screwed and stuck in a 15 month lease. read more

We have lived in Altana for about two years now. The 6th floor had an amazing view, downfall elevators will go out occasionally. Now on the first floor amazing location if you have a small dog, there's a park right behind that allows for leashed roaming throughout all of our time here one consistency is the staff going out of there way. Jorge specifically has gone above and beyond to introduce himself (the first time about a year ago) every time we pass him he checks on us to see how we're doing. Altana is a great place to live if you want exceptional service from people like Jorge who really care! We will be renewing our lease this coming year, We highly recommend Altana :) Steph read more

Every single negative review you have read is true. The customer service here is terrible. Any issue you may have is not getting resolved unless you are consistently asking them over and over again and in the process they will be terrible to you. The way they treat their resident is truly terrible. Trying to even have a reasonable conversation is completely out of the picture. They are always "changing things around" which is their answer to everything and will never be on the same page for anything. I would not recommend this place at all. read more

The worst experience ever!!! The worst management ever!!! They are never on their work places! We were paying for the Pest control, but still... I saw a mouse next to my door....inside of the building... We were paying for the cleaning services, but the underground garage always smells like trash .... during the quarantine time they didn't allow late payments... they didn't allow to move out without paying fees which are the month rent payments.... Been here for about a month now and I enjoy living here thus far. Yes, the gym and some amenities are closed due to COVID-19 but so is the rest of the world for that matter. Besides the obvious, the place is amazing. Location is great with easy access to major freeways (5, 134 and 2) Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are extremely close by, Americana and Galleria down the street, Rosebowl a 10min drive East, Griffith Park 5 mins West, you can't ask for more. I looked at every "luxury" apartment building in Glendale and fell in love with Altana and I know I made the correct choice in moving here. The previous "reviews" or complaints if you will are to be expected from people that can't be pleased or are too picky. "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time" John Lydgate I want to give a very special recognition to Stephanie Blotta in the front office. She helped me with the leasing process during the whole Covid-19 situation and she was a great help throughout the process. After move-in, any questions or concerns I may have had have been cleared up by her with promptness and attention to detail. I can't say enough about her professionalism and upbeat attitude in handling my requests and questions. She's a great asset to the community and I commend her for all the help she's been. Terrell and Ngozy have also been of great service when I've encountered them in the office. If you are looking to move to Glendale and seek a place that you will love to call home, I highly recommend you give Altana a shot.
