Unfortunately, I did not come across the best experience with Kyle and Alpha Structural. While they carry the slogan, "we care about your safety first" and make sure to remind it in each and every phone call and email conversation that they hold, this was absolutely not what their actions proven. Our condominium is under a serious collapse risk, and with low reserves that couldn't pay Alpha's proposal for temporary shoring, we have asked Kyle with Alpha to allow us 2-3 months for the full payment to come through instead of their payment plan of a few days: Alpha asked for 200k for a temp shoring project, to be paid within the days. Our HOA asked Alpha to pay the 40k we have available and asked for extension of 2-3 months (maximum) for the remainder funds to be paid. We asked for that time so we can contact banks for a loan, insurance for coverage, lawyer for submitting a claim, and our home owners for their own liquid funds; however, Kyle came back to us with zero flexibility, and no workaround. Instead, he threatened that he is contacting the city to red flag our homes and evacuate us, because he 'cares for our safety'. Unfortunately, the work could have been started and our homes could have been safe again, had Kyle and alpha only showed willingness to extend the payment plan and allow us time to honor terms we could commit to; but instead, and due to us not having the required 200k they are requesting for this job in our reserves, we are now at risk of evacuation and needed to start the search for another structural engineer company to come in, assess and help us with this emergency condition. Deeply disappointing and unexpected treatment from such high reputation company, to show zero care, no trust, and no flexibility with contract terms. I did provide 2 stars and not 1, as I do recognize the professional assessment and their existing reputation. Too bad that the values they claim to believe in and go by are not the actual values that they act by and practice with their potential clients. read more

Recently, our HOA hired Alpha to do a major repair on one of our units. Ken evaluated our situation and provided a very clear and understandable assessment and recommendation for repair. Oscar, the foreman on the project, was professional and updated progress in a most timely manner. Julio and all of the other workers were great. I can't describe how pleased we are with the decision to hire Alpha. Hopefully we will not need them again. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. I call them for foundation retrofit. My insurance company required me to do that. Alpha Structural came on home inspection with a lot of flyers and paperwork: how big and successful they are. Inspector (benny) spent over an hour here and took measurements. After that show me some pictures, and told me that we also have some damaged beams and pirs, there is some concrete work. 5-6 days later he send me 1 sentence quote - that's it. No any description what they are going to do, no any breakdown of the jobs and prices. FYI all other companies that came for inspection send me at least 1 pdf file with more or less description and prices breakdown. TO my request (send 2 messages) to send me breakdown of the job and prices - after 15 days I got short response. "yes, wil do it and on next day he send me "scheduled payment plan" with 4 steps when I need to pay and how much (he just divided the full amount to 4x ) and regular standards regulation for retrofitting - what kind of bold, braces required to put. Are you kidding me? NO any list of the jobs that you are going to do? no any breakdown how much each jobs costs? Sorry guys, I'll never start any project with any company like this. P.s. Your estimate is the highest and shortest that I got. read more

I requested an estimate on my house foundation, I was told my foundation was cracked. Aaron came to inspect my concern and I received great news. It was not house foundation, it was a improper terra cotta patio that was installed by previous owners. Aaron confirm this by removing some floor tiles from inside the house. Bingo that was the reason I had tiles inside the home that were lifting. It was damp and had a musty odor. So he was honest and said you can hire someone that can redo the patio for less. Brick foundation needed to be replaced. From the beginning when I contacted several contractors for the work, Alpha was one of the few that called back to schedule the site visit for an estimate. Site Visit for Cost Estimate (Grade = A): We met Erinn Rusnak (VP Development) on a Saturday which was convenient for us. He was extremely professional: took the time inspecting and walking the site, answered all our questions, and listened to our concerns about minimizing costs while still being structurally effective. Erinn was responsive when we received the bid and he answered our questions about the technical lingo. Permitting and Scheduling the Work (Grade = C): I'd say this was the rocky part of my experience with Alpha. There was no clear handoff that was communicated to me on who from the firm I should be following up with or who would be providing me status updates. It was me who initiated contact and who the Alpha personnel were that drafted the plans (my GC needed had questions since they needed to get an idea of what floor framing needed to be done), who submitted to the planning department, and who would be the project supervisor. Ultimately, I met with Elmer Puac (VP Production) and Albert Biskalis (Head Draftsman) to get the questions my GC had. Alpha's communication in this stage had a lot of room for improvement especially when my initial contact (Erinn) no longer oversaw this stage. The Work (Grade = A): On Day 1, I met with Elmer and Miguel (Project Supervisor). We went through the game plan and thought everything was set. Unfortunately, it was only going to be a two-man crew (the third person fell ill) but I was just happy work was going to get started. Then that evening, I get an email saying that Miguel was no longer with the company and that a new project supervisor (Juan Carranza) was assigned. Juan Carranza was fantastic. He was professional (provided his business card when we first met) and encouraged me to call/text him if he had any questions. He introduced me to the foreman on site - Juan and he was great too. He took the time to answer our endless questions about the process. He and his crew (Tino and Gennaro) were extremely friendly and worked hard. They came in a couple of Saturdays too to stay on track with their work timelines. The amount of dirt that was excavated, the temporary shoring installed, the forms placed for concrete pour, and the breakdown of all of that...WOW! It was an impressive project. Juan Carranza was true to his word with scheduling. His Alpha team of Juan the foreman, Tino, and Gennaro were on-site when they said they would be. Our main point of contact, Brad, inspected our structure thoroughly from the start of our engagement and guided us through seemingly endless city permit changes and hold ups. Once we were able to kick off the work, the office scheduled the work to start almost immediately. We could not be happier with the team that showed up to work at our house for just over a month. Our foreman, Mel, and his main crew members, Aroldo and Marc, did an amazing job and kept kind, positive attitudes throughout the process. Selling my dad's Silver Lake/East Hollywood(SUNSET JUNCTION area) house as he had passed away early '23 and I/we just cannot maintain it anymore living so far away so we are in the process of actively SELLING it. A polite young man named Albert B. showed up at the appointed hour, on time, to inspect the integrity and soundness of the house, both inside and outside. He was on the property about an HOUR examining the various areas of the property, taking pictures and drawing sketches, etc. After his inspection, his verbal professional impressions and findings to us offered some suggested recommendations but nothing glaring or MAJOR issues were uncovered by him which would suggest that the house's integrity and formidability were of concern. He said that my dad's/parents house could most likely stand for another 68+ years...The house even weathered the quakes of 1971, 1987 and 1994...He suggested things that could be done, if we wished to but nothing appeared to be MANDATORY. A thorough written and succinct report with his name and other professional credentials were included on the report. Really was very impressed with Albert B. and ALPHA STRUCTURAL!! Alpha Structural is in the process of reviving our two-level deck, replacing the damaged and worn wood with modern compositing boards and a sleek metal railing. Our two decks extend out from our hillside house and sit two and three stories above ground level. (The views are great!) Just from the initial framing, we can tell we're going to have decks that are stronger than they have ever been. From the start, the team has been very accommodating to our scheduling, design and budgeting needs. Damien, Chris and the entire office personnel have promptly responded to our questions and concerns about permits, the construction, purchasing the material and facilitation a smooth and fast demolition. And a special shout-out to the hardworking crew making it happen. Jubie, Cruz and Louis arrive promptly each morning, work hard throughout the day, are repective of our home and are going the extra miles to produce a deck that we know is going to look great. They were able to get out relatively quickly and their inspection was incredibly thorough. Compared to some other quotes we got, Alpha's assessment felt fair and practical. After taking care of permits with the city, their crew came out to retrofit the foundation and were friendly and extremely professional. I received a number of quotes for the job, but decided to go with Alpha Structural because they seemed the most professional, from their communication style to having the (1) proper licenses, (2) bonding, and (3) workers compensation. Although they were the highest bid, I decided to go with them after having a bad previous experience with a cheaper plumbing company and not wanting to go through a similar experience. Everyone at Alpha Structural with whom I worked with was very kind and helpful: Dan, the structural accessor, was very accommodating in working within my limited budget to come up with a solution that could fit my needs. Living on a hillside has its ups and downs. Lovely forever changing vistas across the Eagle Rock valley that I've had the privilege to enjoy a week shy of 30 years. I often catch myself watching the seasons change as weather dances with the foothills and San Gabriel Mountains. BUT every few years El Nino, or an 'atmospheric river' arrives and I'm in hell. The hillside becomes saturated and water seeps in the house downstairs from the closets back walls. Since the home was purchased as a foreclosure, I was shocked several years into living here to find the floor wet. Fast forward - Alpha Structural has its roots in Eagle Rock since 1993. Over the years, when I shared my 'wet' 'hillside' situation with neighbors, their name was often mentioned. So when I was ready to tackle my drainage problem after last year's super wet winter, I knew where to start. They promptly returned my call and scheduled a visit around the Christmas holidays. Aaron did a thorough measurement of the effected areas, and submitted a solution that he could guarantee no future water would enter through the basement wall. Unfortunately the estimate was beyond my budget. It involved tearing out tiles across my dining room, living room, and kitchen (upstairs) to excavate and dig a crawl space behind the wall for waterproofing. Plus I would have to replace them afterwards. A near impossible match. Aaron understood, including my age and longevity living here. I accepted his alternative proposal and postponed beginning the project until after the rainy season ended. Project Supervisor Chris came with his crew as scheduled. I coordinated with Juvey, the on-site project manager, giving him a key to the street-side gate to ensure their tools and supplies were secure. They entered the home through a downstairs door that opened from the backyard to their work area. They always kept the area tidy and cleaned up every night. The project took nearly 6 days. The solution involved digging a 6" wide trench along the back wall. They helped me clear items from the closets, and placed a wall of plastic along the stairs to restrict dust, but I'll admit, it was worse than I expected. I don't know how they manage the rat-ta-tat of the jackhammer breaking the tiles and concrete. I escaped that day and totally trusted Juvey to care for my privacy. Part #2 involved running a covered drain along the back wall, down under the closet, then out of the house wall to another drain dug into the hillside along the outside staircase. It was so deep here that the two diggers were up to their knees! A large white pipe was connected to the inside system, always slightly lower to ensure water flow. Before cementing in place, Juvey demonstrated the flow of water for me, emptying a pitcher of water in the corner. It ran along the back wall, then about 20 feet under the hill before the pipe popped out at the next retaining wall, reaching daylight. Just as envisioned! Chris even covered the open end to give me peace of mind that no critters could enter. How's it working in real time? I don't know yet. I waited to submit this to see what occurred after our Easter weekend rains. But seepage only occurs when the hillside is saturated. I hope that it will be months before the real test. I promise to let Alpha Structural know when this happens. Until then, thank you for giving me peace of mind for a full night's sleep when I hear "RAIN!". read more
