Alpha Plus Dental on Harvard Street in Brookline has a wonderful, caring staff, both administrative and medical. I can honestly say that after going here for years for everything ranging from cleanings, fillings and basic consults, to complex crowns and even implants, I've never had a bad a experience. They were available in the off hours when I was bleeding. They were kind when I had questions and mentally available with care and patience when I wasn't. And perhaps best of all, their experience runs deep and transcends nations and generations. For example, my dentist, Dr Shuster, may be young, yet has the chairside manner and knowledge of a wise, well-traveled and experienced professor. I also believe one of her parents was a dentist in Germany, and her grandmother was ALSO a dentist in a different country before then! At least a couple of other nations' expertise is represented. Had the pleasure of working with Dr Kovtun, the owner, on a number of occasions and he's concise, clear and candid in ways few doctors (or people!) can be. The only downside at this this office is that they're quite busy; so plan ahead and come early, as they help a lot in emergencies and book out a bit at times. It'll be quality care when you're in your chair--as well as at the front desk--as this is basically a dental office with pretty epic skills that I've come to love. read more

Really poor experience scheduling a cleaning here. This was I think in the fall of 2014 or 2015, and looking at the other reviews it seems that the staff might have changed here. I called ahead of time and inquired about the price. The lady was nice, and I was given a quote, which I though was fair so I scheduled an appointment. When I actually did come in, it was a different person than over the phone at the register I assume, and I was told that the price was ~$20 more. I was confused and tried to ask for clarification, but the lady at the register was a bit rude and insisted that the price was never the price that I was quoted. Internal communication was definitely lacking here. And it breaks my trust in a place a bit, because then I'm not sure whether I'm even paying the right price (and it's dental care so it's not cheap). I was also told that I would need to have 4 fillings done, and was quoted a high price for each. I had a second opinion when I came to the Tufts dental school, was seen by multiple dentist instructors and told I only need 1 filling. I went for a routine cleaning because I had not gone for a while. I had better experiences. Although I knew I may have a cavity or two. I was not experiencing any other issues with my teeth.Without doing x-rays they decided to tell me I have 5 cavities. They said dont worry lets book your appointment for the fillings then we will do a x-ray as well. They told me that I have TMJ and that they would need to make a special mouth guard for me. My wisdom tooth is decaying that I need it pulled. Thankfully I am not quick to trust what everyone tells me even if they have an DMD. The moment I walked in there I felt uneasy with the experience as if they were trying to pull money out of me. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. I went for a 2nd opinion to a specialist . They did a exam of my teeth with x-rays. Yes, I was told I have 2 cavities not 5 and that no I dont have TMJ. MY teeth overall are in good shape. Needless to say I dont trust the Alpha Dental practice in Brookline. There are better more competent doctors out there. They are quick to point out issues and send insurance claims without actually doing what they are suppose to do. I get my teeth cleaned here every 6 months; surprisingly it's done by a dentist and not a hygienist. I have also gotten fillings done here on a couple of teeth. I had a sensitive tooth and got a fluoride treatment once. All top notch work! Friendly & chatty dentists and front office staff. Most importantly, I got my wisdom teeth extractions done here. No swelling, almost no pain - quick & easy. And a tooth was impacted! I have good insurance so my out of pocket is very low, hence I cannot comment on the cost. I highly recommend this office. good news first. It is extremely easy to get a same day appointment. Bad news There is a reason for this. They rip you off. Literally I called first and was told I would get a free consultant and when i was trying to leave they tried to charge me even though they did nothing for me. I haven't had a cavity since i was 14 and i am now 34. This is the first dentist since then, that has told me I have a cavity even with out taking an X-ray and I didn't even go there for that reason. In 2016 I needed a deep cleaning work and dental office offered to me do it and has been done incorrectly and year later I end up in other dental office who is specialized on the deep cleaning and has been referred by the Alpha Plus Dental office. Why they didn't send me to the other office at the first place? Recommendation for the office management: stop being so nice to everyone! I went in again for a routine cleaning, with an appoitment, well it must have been a crazy day for them because all dental chairs were full with the waiting area. For the time I was there, there were TWO emergency walk-ins, one with a temp crown that fell off, and another patient has terrable pain. Knowing how nice the office management is, they took both of the patients without an appoitment. I know people go there because it is a good office, but sometimes it hurts people like me, who do have an appointment. On the other hand if I was the patient with critical pain, I would not care too much about a waiting patient with routine cleaning. read more

I saw two dentists here. One, Dr. Natasha V., did a great job diagnosing my cavity problems, charting a plan to correct for them and starting on one of the cavities. I had to come back for the follow-on work and ended up scheduling it with another dentist who worked weekends. Dr. Boris is the one who filled my teeth - taking two visits to do this - and every filling he's touched now hurts (these visits were 3 months ago). I've gone back to get it checked out and he says the teeth look fine. That's not ok in my book, I'm going elsewhere. Note that if your insurance only covers amalgam fillings (like mine does), this office does not work with silver amalgam. They use the composite only. Higher copays is just what I was looking for! read more

Back in October, I went in for a quick oral exam and x-ray to confirm whether I had lost a filling the night before and if it would be okay to hold off on dental work until I went back to my home state and saw my family dentist one month later. The dentist I spoke to was perfectly fine and gave me the OK to wait a month before getting work done. I was then told my insurance would handle everything, and I walked out without any issues. Fast foward to 8 months and 8 days later. I receive a bill in the mail simply stating that I owe $115 and a hand written note that says to "please pay this amount" because my insurance plan was maxed out. We are now PAST tax season, and there were absolutely NO details on this bill about the actual dental work that was done 8 months ago. I called insurance, and they said the form was processed within 24 hours of the initial dental service, as well as the fact that I should not owe more than $86, regardless of whether I had maxed out my claims for the year. I called back Alpha, requested a new bill with actual details, to my email as well as to my home address. I also clarified that the bill should not be more than $86, to which the receptionist denied this was the case. We confirmed that I would be getting an email following up and a new bill in the mail with //details// about the dental work. FIVE WEEKS LATER: Still no news from Alpha. I call insurance again, and I have THEM call and confirm again. There should be a new bill in the mail. Not only that, they won't stop sending me requests for check-ups, even though I was very clear that I didn't want to receive these any more. I'm very uninterested in ever going back. Terrible service, regardless of dental work. If you're looking for a same-day appointment, consider holding off for 24 hours until you can find an appointment elsewhere. This is not worth the headache. read more

This place is very unprofessional and seems like a scam! They tried to cheat me out of the money I paid up front by never returning it to me months after my insurance company sent them a check. They were then hard to get a hold of and sent a check instead of crediting my card. While I was there, they talked openly about money saving tactics in front of me and the whole place seemed very dingy and almost like some sort of front. I had my wisdom teeth extracted and was a little nervous, but Dr. Ofir put me at ease and made me feel real comfortable. He's very attentive and listens to all of your concerns. He's goes above and beyond by sensing the tone in your voice to your body language. Very in tuned with the patients feelings. He's an amazingly nice and generous orthodontist. I had some sensitivity and I warned her in advance. She was very gentle. Will definitely come back for my next cleaning. I have never written a Yelp review before, but I can safely say that I won't be going to this office again - I live in Brookline and moved from out of state, so when I had a painful cavity, I wanted it fixed asap. I was foolish for choosing an office without doing any research, but I couldn't have anticipated for them to be nearly as unprofessional as they were. I went in for a cleaning and inspection of the cavity causing me pain. I didn't get into a chair until 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment. After looking at my mouth and taking an x-ray, was told that I have several cavities, which is not abnormal for me, so I went about scheduling a filling for the most painful one. This was done by Dr. Kerry and another woman, who were both very friendly and tentative. Soon after I had the filling done without any issues. I avoided getting the others filled due to cost purposes. However, a month or so later I was experiencing pain in a different side of my mouth, so I scheduled another filling. This time I was sat down 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment, after asking twice if I would be sat soon. I finally sit down, and was rudely greeted by Dr. Boris who I had never met before. Before even opening my mouth to show him where I was experiencing pain, I was told to show him my bite. After glancing at my smile, he told me that I have a severe cross bite which will get significantly worse over time and that I need braces immediately (I have seen an ortho before, and have been told my bite is not that bad). He said that the cross bite is the reason for my pain on top of my cavities. There were no x-rays, and this was all said within a two minute span. Telling a 23 year old woman that she needs braces immediately is not something to be said lightly. He then quickly exited after poorly explaining what is going on in my mouth, and left me to have my filling done by Dr. Kerry. Needless to say I was pretty upset about the situation. Dr. Kerry, the hygienist, and the receptionist were all very kind and apologetic for his rude behavior, but to me his lack of consideration for his patient was completely unforgivable. I certainly do not recommend going here. The facilities seem out of date, and the Dr. Boris doesn't have your best interest in mind. read more

So my review from about an year ago and I still can say the same! I was really happy with my latest experience with Alpha Plus Dental. I had TMJ disorder and the process of changing my bite took about an year. During the whole year the Alpha Plus Dental team did everything to make all my visits most comfortable for me. I have a really tough schedule so Dr. Lipovetsky and his staff always tried to find the best time for my visits. I should specially mention that I find Dr. Lipovetsky highly professional dentist with an outstanding knowledge of dentistry and I would recommend him to everybody. He is able to work with really complicated dental cases as mine was. Dr. Lipovetsky uses the newest dentistry technologies to help his patients. The clinic is well equipped and you can get all procedures done on the site. Big thanks to receptionists - Zhanna and Natasha, who were always on phone to reply my questions, to Jessica, Dr. Lipovetsky assistant, to Lina Yablonsky - great hygienist ever! read more

They are good what they are doing but when it comes to see you on time of your appointment that never happens. You always sit at the office waiting room for over 15mins. And it happens every time I have an appointment and I am coming here for over 6 to 7 years. And if you don't ask they will never tell you how long you will be waiting. So you can understand my disappointment and the doctor never apologizes only the receptionist does and she's great. This place rates above one star because of the terrific work of Dr. Kerri Bourgeoius. She took care of my fillings, is wonderfully pleasant and did a terrific job. She also attempted to re-do my cleaning after my initial cleaning at Alpha Dental lets a good deal of tartar behind, to the degree that I'm wondering why I bothered with initial cleaning anyway. In my first visit, I was looked at by a hygienist, then the dentist, Dr. Boris Lipovetskiy who signed off. Given the shoddy work, I can't shake the feeling he was more concerned about getting me in for follow-up visits (and more of my money). To be honest, aside from Dr. Bourgeoius, I feel I got screwed by this place (it's also very overpriced). read more

I did not check any reviews about this dental office and went there out of convenience. The doctor Natalya Veksler seemed trustworthy and knowledgeable during my first visit when I had regular cleaning done. However when I went in for the second visit, for an extraction of a tooth due to her recommendation, almost everything went wrong. She did not explain the procedure to me saying only that it would be a simple extraction...The process was painful and the whole ordeal lasted almost 5 hours! During which I was crying the whole time due to discomfort and the pressure put on my jawbone, fear, and stress. Dr. Veksler was unable to pull the tooth out after significant amount of time trying to, in the process breaking the tooth a couple of times. During her struggle, another doctor (Boris Lipovetsky) was passing by and asked if she would like some help (until now she was doing everything by herself without any assistants). Both of them did not seem to know what they were doing and only caused me greater pain and confusion. Eventually she had to drive me down the street to a different office where they specialize in oral surgery, saying that "they have better tools there." She drove me there in her own car, going in reverse on a one-way while not being noticed by a nearby cop, finally leaving me in the care of a different doctor to finish the surgery. The next day I woke up swollen and in pain, thinking that the previous day was a nightmare. It truly felt that way. I never want anyone to experience what I have gone through. Other customers/patients need to know that the people that work in that office are not professionals. Now I don't know what the damage is from what she has done but when I go to check this week I am going to a different office only by a recommendation from someone I know. read more
