You'll see others mention a similar story as well. 5 years ago, I came in after moving to Boston for a routine cleaning. They told me I needed 9 cavities filled. I have only had 1 cavity ever in my life and my last dentist had never mention anything about a cavity. I took this as a red flag and went to another dentist and there was no mention of any cavities. Just switched dentists again after moving and there have also been no mention of any cavities in the 5 years since I have gone here and 12 years leading into when I first came here. Let me begin by saying that I am someone who does not really like change. I was originally a patient of Dr. Goldstone, who was wonderful and had many admirable qualities, especially compassion. After he left, I continued going to Cambridgeside Dental Associates and became a patient of Dr. Khalil. I remained Dr. Khalil's patient for decades and, during that time, had several root canals. I always trusted the practice until I began receiving treatment estimates ranging from $8,000 to $10,000. I complained about a back tooth that had already had a root canal, and Dr. Khalil informed me that I needed another one. For years, I had been saving money to improve the appearance of my front tooth, and once again I was told that I would most likely need root canals on my front teeth as well. At that point, I decided to seek a second opinion from another dentist. I was told there was nothing wrong with my back tooth. I have since had my front teeth treated, and they look great -- without needing any root canals. The cost was about one-third (or less) of the original estimate. Additionally, it was discovered that I had an infection that required surgery and had never been identified. I ultimately had to see an oral surgeon for proper treatment. I would also like to mention that there seems to be frequent turnover among the hygienists and front desk staff. Over the years, I met many different hygienists, and the office staff has changed repeatedly, which I find concerning. I do not typically leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience so that others will consider seeking a second opinion when presented with treatment plans costing many thousands of dollars. read more

I am so hesitant to write this review because we live in a world where anything but a five star review can break a business and I truly believe that we all have our bad days and who am I to judge that, but in this case my experience was bad enough that I feel it is in my DUTY to let others know they should exercise EXTREME CAUTION when doing business with Cambridgeside Dental. I went to Cambridgeside Dental to get a routine cleaning, and walked out being quoted over $2000 for extensive work to fix all my "cavities". I was told I needed to get a tooth extracted, get an implant, get two quadrants of my mouth deep cleaned, and get 8 cavities filled. When I asked for clarification, I was more or less verbally attacked. I have very good oral hygiene and was quite taken aback by all this work they were suggesting as I routinely go to the dentist, so I ended up getting a second opinion using the same scans that Cambridgeside Dental took. Long story short, none of this work is necessary (I am posting a second 5 star review for the other clinic I saw if others are interested). Obviously all clinics fall on a sliding scale on how proactive they are with treatment strategies, but it's hard when the dentists rely on AI to tell them which teeth have cavities (and yes this was my actual conversation). I will end this review with a warning to others, beware this practice because there is something not right here and if you are looking to go for a cleaning, look elsewhere. Typically, I don't write online reviews unless I received excellent care as I'd rather only share great experiences, but in Cambridgeside's case, I feel compelled to share my experience as a warning to others. Now, the staff and dental assistants are great; professional and accomplished. I had several great cleanings there. The problem are the dentists - Dr. Khalil and Dr. Lee. I've never been treated so poorly by dental 'professionals'. When they choose not to treat you, they dismiss you and actually won't help you. I don't know if dentists take some kind of oath but beware; with all the dentists in the area, you can get much better treatment elsewhere. read more

I'm sad to say that it was one of the worst experiences I've had with any service provider in my life. The dental assistant who cleaned my teeth first was lovely, and the receptionists were equally great, but Dr.Lee made me feel horrible in all honesty. After getting my teeth cleaned for an hour, I was finally able to see the dentist, and within 3 minutes she was already running out. She came in and started naming all my teeth with their medical #'s (R11, L28, etc etc.) which of course made no sense to me, she told me I had to get a few cavities filled, and when I asked for clarification on where they are, how to further proceed, what the process for getting them filled is (normal questions), she would cut me off and say "we're going to drill a hole in your tooth" as the only response. Naturally I was already flustered that I came in for something small and was told I had cavities, and when I kindly asked for some clarity she shut me down and said that I could talk to the front desk for further questions on how to book my fillings. Here's the kicker though.. she started to get up and I was confused given none of what I had booked my appointment for had been done yet, and she goes "oh no, we aren't doing any of that today". So I ask "Okay, was there a way I could have known that in advance? I took time out of my workday to come here and didn't get any of it done" and she responds "I dont know what the front desk told you but I'm not doing that" .. She told me I should "go back to wherever I got my teeth done before and ask them to do it because she didn't know what it was" and I said "well I came here as a new patient to hopefully get my teeth sorted, thinking that's what one does at the dentist" and she goes "well no, I have a patient so I'm going to go" and I couldn't believe it. I was a patient too! and my appointment was an hour and a half prior, and yet she needed to go "get to her patient" which felt super condescending to me, and quite honestly, made me feel super insecure. All I could think about is how I was being so polite when asking for clarification and standing up for what I had been told I could get done at the practice, and she belittled everything I said, and I'm someone who can stand up for herself. It made me sad to think that there's probably so many people from different backgrounds that go there, that maybe haven't gone to get their teeth cleaned in years, have a language barrier, or are just shy and don't know how to stand up for themselves. Having healthcare providers treat patients so poorly often leads to them not wanting to return to getting treatment for themselves, in fear of another instance like this happening. I hope it was a one off day for Dr.Lee and that she isn't like that normally with everyone. Im sure she's not a bad person, but I am someone who wants to feel safe and taken care of when I'm trusting someone else with needles in my mouth, so I wanted to share my personal experience. For others it might be different. The staff there otherwise were great, so if you're going with another dentist, theres still a good chance you'll love the experience there. read more

A wonderful dental practice overall... if you have dental coverage. I never had a problem with these guys while I was covered. I think the most I ever had to wait was maybe 5 minutes as long as I showed up on time for an appointment. Their staff are very friendly and pleasant. I only had positive interactions with their general dentists. Beware, however, if you ever want to go to them without dental coverage. They will charge you through the nose. I was cited $480 for a simple cleaning and was told there was no way to get a discount even if I paid in cash. (Competitors down the road will charge less than a quarter of that!) I did notice that they also try to push really hard to sell you expensive products like mouth guards when the indication is questionable and far cheaper alternatives are available. These products are typically not covered by standard dental plans either, so beware of that. In short, great practice, but I'd avoid them if you have no dental coverage. read more

Generally this office is very well equipped and has an attentive and well trained staff. Dr Khalil and Dr. Lee are considerate and highly skilled. However I had a frustrating experience recently where I was experiencing a lot of pain in a back tooth after already having had three root canals and two implants at another office. Dr. Khalil kept telling me that it could be caused by neuralgia and that I should not "do anything else" there. After seeing their endodontist, Dr. Landraga, who was really condescending and seemed not to believe some of my symptoms, I was told to go to a pain clinic (which was not even taking new patients), and was then referred to a hospital which also did not respond at all. Fortunately I got another opinion from a very experienced dentist at another office who told me that my back tooth has an exposed root which would be very difficult to repair with a root canal, and recommended that I get it extracted. I went ahead and did this and now the pain has significantly improved. I wish I could leave a better review, but I am pretty frustrated after this experience. Nevertheless for most people that don't have unusually bad luck and just need routine maintenance. I would recommend this office. read more

But they just keep saying too busy to release it to me, which ended that I couldn't get it before my dental appointment and I got charged for $91 for a new one. Very rude. Terrible experience! I need a filling years ago; and after the procedure, I kept feeling the local pain of the fixed tooth, sensitive to cold water, and biting food; I was told to wait for several weeks, the symptoms will go away, however, the symptoms never went away, and one small chip fell less than two weeks afterward, so I had to do it again. I was really not happy with the fact that I have to go through the pain twice with such small procedure. The tooth had not bothered me before the procedure. I was thinking about switching office then, but decided to to stay because of the convenience. But last year, the same tooth got chipped again, I think it is not normal to chipped within such short time; I was told that it happened often after years. But reality is that my other filling teeth which were done earlier than this one have not had similar problems. After long thought, I decided to go back to let them fix it again (I thought they know the problem and should be easier to fix). I made the appointment and make sure I got there on time; but the day on my way to the office, I got a call from the office saying that the dentist has to go, they have to reschedule the appointment!! They called me the last minute about the cancellation!! I had no choice and drove back home. On the rescheduled day, I drove back again; I was checked by a totally different person ( I thought he was a different dentist). But after checking, he put some stupid filling in my chipped tooth and told me nobody could do the real filling in the office and he is not able to do the filling either. I was furious, as a medical doctor myself, I know what they are doing is total out of professional morals, I decided to leave and scheduled with different dentist office immediately. My chipped tooth got fixed and has not caused trouble since. I will never go back to that office again and strongly suggest all my friends not going there either! read more

I would be on high alert at this dentist. I went in for a cleaning and they found 6 cavities (I'm 34 and only ever have had 1 other in my life). From there, they also said I required a deep cleaning and regular cleanings every 3 months. The deep cleaning took about 20 minutes. I kept going back, getting some cavities filled, and for the 3 month cleanings until our of nowhere, they told me I would need a root canal on a tooth they had been "watching". They told me that I could wait about 1 year to get this done. This struck me as strange so I got a second opinion. The new dentist told me I absolutely do not need a root canal, I don't need to come for cleanings every 3 months, and that the remaining "cavities" just had to be watched. I've been going to this office since 2003, when I broke a tooth and needed some care quickly. I hadn't gone to the dentist in about 3 years, and honestly didn't take great care of my teeth prior to that. I used to see Dr. Bustillo, but she is no longer there. I've been seeing Dr. Khalil mostly, but, since I haven't always taken the best care of my teeth, I've had to have a few crowns, a root canal, and gum grafting done here. Drs. Al-Adeeb (Endodontrist) and Boustani (Periodontist) are, along with Dr. Khalil, as gentle and thorough as Dr. Bustillo was. I still make the shlep from Rozzie to E. Cambridge to go here. I have been going here since I was about 14 years old. They must be doing something right because I have yet to have a cavity. Don't get me wrong I take care of my teeth on the outside but Dr. Goldstone, and now Dr. Khalil have both done a wonderful job in keeping my mouth in tip top shape. I don't have any horror story from this place. Its extremely clean. The staff is friendly. I've never had any problems with my teeth and have only been here for cleaning twice a year but they have taken good care of me for 13 years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Cleanings are great and pretty straight forward. Office is clean. Everyone comes off has generally nice. If you have ever been to Jiffy Lube, this office is pretty much run the same way. They'll find something that you "need," like a filling or a mouth guard and then pressure you into making an appointment to have the work done ASAP. Not happy with the office. I am pregnant and a piece of my back tooth broke off (next to a filling). I don't have any pain, which I mentioned when calling the office to see if I could make an appointment. They requested I receive clearance from my midwife to receive novocaine, which I did. I wait 20 minutes to see the dentist and when she does come in she looks at the tooth and ask if I have pain, I tell her no. She then takes a photo of my tooth and basically tells me since I am pregnant they can't do X-rays and also since I have no pain they won't do anything for me today but I should come back after I've given birth. So they had me come in and bill my insurance to tell me something that could be done over the phone, the dentist was in the room for all of 5 minutes. I will agree with the other reviewers that the hygenists and desk staff here are very friendly and nice, but DO NOT USE THEIR ENDODONTIST, Dr. Jutras. She did a root canal on my tooth, but I continued to have pain. I had a second opinion from a different endodontist who said that she had not filled it properly or even completely removed the root. Beware this is a business and you can tell when you enter the office and the fancy lobby and furniture. The first time I went to this office was for cleaning.The doctor came in, looked at my Xrays and said I needed alot of work.He spoke as if I had the worst teeth in this world. He pointed to one tooth and said I urge you to get a root canal right now. Having two root canals done previously I knew when a root canal is needed. I clearly told him I have no pain and no sensitivity. Why would I need a root canal, maybe it just needs a filling I said. He was very persistent but I wasnt falling for his games. I went to another dentist for an opinion and guess what it only needed a filling. A few weeks ago my tooth on which I had gotten a root canal many years ago but not gotten a crown chipped. When I went back in this time, the female dentist actually says I dont think we can put a crown. There is so much decay, we will have to pull it out and explained an entire process where they would put an implant etc. Dont get me wrong their accountant or the lady that does the billilng is super patient and awesome and explained to me all the numbers but the procedure that the female dentist had suggested was about $2000 after insurance out of my pocket. OUTRAGEOUS! Guess what I did. I went to another local dentist compnay and guess what they were able to put a crown. The dentist was awesome and to the point and did not make it sound as if my teeth were the most hopeless ever and and that his practise was a bsuibess. Beware and dont be fooled by these dentists. I have been a patient here for 6 years, but will not be going back. Today when I arrived for my routine cleaning I asked not to have x rays taken due to time constraints and not feeling a need for them given I have no pain or dental issues. I was told x rays are required by law at least every 2 years, and I could either get the X rays today or leave without a cleaning (what?!????). 1) I am almost100% sure there is no law stating I NEED to get dental x rays. Going to the dentist is a CHOICE and in my case for hygiene purposes since my teeth are fine. 2) We are 10 days into 2017. 3) I feel totally disrespected. After being lectured by the hygienist I was lectured by the dentist. The staff is friendly and it's a nice clean office, but I always feel like they are out to make money and this X ray thing was totally unprofessional and ridiculous. They lost a loyal patient today. I used to go here as long as I can remember when I was a little kid with Dr. Goldstone when they were good. They are very modern, X-rays showing up on the screen in front of you, text reminders etc. Service has become way less personal. My most recent experience: I had an appointment set up for 4pm. It was a 2 hour appointment as I was to have a root canal retreated. I get a call around 3 saying they were running a bit late, around 15 mins. That was fine, they normally never take me in on time so at least this time I got a warning. I still show up at 4 and I get brought in at 4:40! I go in and an assistant takes a painful X-ray (the huge metal piece kept sticking into the front of my mouth and I even asked if I could do it myself). She gives me a release to sign. "You are fully aware of what's being done to you....you've had the opportunity to ask questions...the dentist won't be at fault." Um, no, actually, I have no idea what's being done exactly or if I should even get it done, so I wait for the dentist. She comes in and says (nice at first) "Thanks for waiting, sorry that a patient had an emergency." (At this point it was like 4:50). I'm like OK.. She replies "So I heard you have some questions as to what's going on." Me- Yes, exactly what are you going to do? Dr- Well it looks like your bone below was infected from the root canal. Me- Ok, well what is the procedure like to fix it? Dr- (Explains what she'll do. Drill hole through crown, take out filling, put medicine inside, then seal up). Me- Was it my fault that it got infected? Because I don't want to have to go through this again and I just want to find out the cause of the problem. My crown has always felt a little loose and food constantly gets stuck in there. Dr- Well I don't know what the cause is, it could be anything, I have to look. Me- So you're telling me that you have to drill open my tooth and remove the filling to look down there and see if you missed cleaning one of the canals to identify the problem correctly? Dr-I mean, yes, I would have to look, I can't tell exactly, but when I put pressure on the tooth you said it hurts so it looks like there's an infection down there. Me- So but if the problem that caused it is my insecure crown that is letting bacteria in, what is it going to solve if you go down there but yet my crown is still broken? Dr- Well that would have to be looked into. Me- Well, can you look into it before you open my tooth? Dr- It has to be Dr. Kallil, he's not here today. Maybe you should think about it. Me- No, it's fine, just do it. If there's an infection it has to be fixed and I already took the time off to be here. I told her I had an appointment at 6:10 at the mall and she said she needed more time. I asked her how long, she said maybe like 6:30. I said ok, well I'll cancel my appointment then. She exited the room annoyed. She comes back in: Dr- I'm not going to do the procedure today. You need to think about it and talk to Dr. Khalil before you do anything. Me- I just said that you could do it! I cancelled my following appointment and took two hours out of my day to be here! I gave you permission to start. Dr- Well It's a procedure that takes two visits, it can't be rushed. I just spent the last half hour explaining to you what needs to be done. (She spent maybe 7 minutes talking to me, and didn't mention it would be 2 visits until this point). Dr- I can't stay here until 8 pm doing this, I just can't. (First off, not my fault that it took them an hour to get to me, and secondly she was extremely overexaggerated saying it would last until 8 pm...it was 5pm). Me- So why the heck did I come into the office today? I had an X-ray done my last visit which showed the infection. You were supposed to look at it and then tell me if I needed to do something. No one ever called me back, I had to call and someone just said oh yeah, it'll need to be done. What was the point of having me come in if you're not going to do anything?! She storms out of the room. The assistant is like "What is going on?" No one really understood what was her problem. I felt so disrespected and just like another person to get money from. When I was leaving talking to the receptionist she asked when I had free time and if I wanted to reschedule. Excuse me?!? I don't have free time, I'm booked over 70 hours a week. I had to buy time to be here. And I won't be making another appointment, I don't care what your sales goals are. Any "doctor/dentist" who thinks that her time is more valuable than mine has no business making gold while in my mouth. There are a few good people here, most of the receptionists and Dr. Eitutis is great. Dr. Khalil is pretty stuck up. When I asked him question he replied "Do you not think I know how to do my job?" i went to this dentist 4 years ago. it was my first time seeing a dentist in the boston area. the first thing they did was take way more x-rays than i had ever had. next, they told me that 3 of my 4 fillings were cracking and needed to be replaced. because i have mild tmj, we scheduled just to replace 2 at first. after i had them replaced, i told my mom about it, and i was like, "don't you think that's weird, since i just got these filled a year ago?" she said yes...and so did my old dentist who did the work. i never went back, and was doubtful of any dentist for 2 years after that. when i finally broke down, i found an old but good dentist. i told him my story (but didn't tell him which fillings were replaced). one look in my mouth and he said, "ooo. these 2 fillings are cracked. your other 2 are fine." yep...the fillings i had replaced were cracked, and the one that i didn't have replaced was absolutely fine. these people were just scamming my insurance company to make some money. i would highly recommend that you DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST. read more

The five stars are for Dr. Jennifer Eitutis in particular, who wins the Best Dentist award hands down. She's a super thorough and exacting professional, but she'll also tell you straight if you realllllllly need to get a specific thing fixed, or if it's more of a 'nice to have' for the time being and you could prob hold off for now without any particularly terribly consequences. She's also got that whole friendly / professional balance down, which is important for someone who's about to stick their hands in your mouth. Otherwise, the office is pretty solid. They're great with reminders about booking and making it to your apt, but the hygienists are hit or miss. Also feel like some of the other dentists are a bit prone to the 'up-sell' (NOT Dr. Jennifer, who as prev described is awesome) - nothing out of the ordinary, but it's just a touch annoying to be told about the many many things that they COULD do to improve your smile, but that really aren't necessary. read more

Love the dentist. She was very careful and kept me informed throughout the cavity procedure step by step giving me confidence. I truly appreciate a good dentist. She was really wonderful. She has a wonderful touch and impeccable chairside manners. I am not giving the experience a 5 start because the person who helped her was extremely ruff. Just going in the cubicle, she told me to take my jacket off of where I had put it, and was very rude about it. Then she put a q-tip in my mouth as if I was something else than a person, or an animal; as if I was some kind of a thing. To the point that I didn't allow her to take it out. I took it out myself. When she pulled my mouth to position my head she did it very hard so that I turned it according to the way she pulled it, and then blamed me for ruining what she was doing because I turned my head too much! When she pulled open my check, I could feel how hard she was pulling my skin although my face was numb. Any vet I've taken my cat to has treated him much better than how this woman treated me, and he is 12 years old. Please, make sure she is not scheduled next time I visit Cambridgeside Dental. Went here for the first time. Mara was my hygienist and she was wonderful! She did a great job and was very helpful! The dentist was also excellent, and since I have to have some future work done, they were extremely helpful with setting up appointments and figuring out how to most effectively pay for the treatment, working with my insurance and my personal finances. Have you ever been to one of those quick car service stations to have your oil changed or tires rotated, and mechanic tells you that he's seen Model T's in better condition and that your engine is falling out? To which you reply, really? I drove this thing brand new off the lot 6 months ago. Cambrideside Dental is the dental equivalent. Here's what's up: their office is clean. The staff seems friendly. They are conveniently located. But, to be honest, I expect that from the local McDonald's. What should set a professional service provider apart is that you trust them and their advice. You should know, with certainty, that when they recommend that you spend hundreds of dollars to fix something in your mouth, that they're honest and right. Here's what made me lose their trust: I had sealants put on my back teeth as a kid, which, the dentist reported to me, were coming up. To prevent bacteria from getting under the sealant and causing cavities, he recommended removing what was remaining of the sealants and replacing them. I was with him so far. I asked if anything was wrong with my teeth or if I had a cavity, and the dentist assured me that this was merely a preventative move. I head to the front desk to schedule an appointment for sealant removal/replacement, and I ask for them to run a quote for the procedure through my insurance company. A couple of weeks later, a quote for two fillings comes back. I'm no dentist, but I think I learned from the dentist on career day in elementary school that cavities need to be filled, but sealants are different. So, I called to ask about it. The person who picked up the phone assured me not to worry about it and that the "dentist would explain everything" at my next cleaning appointment in 6 months. It was completely unclear why I couldn't leave a message for him and talk to him sooner than half a year away, but that's what I was told. So, I was left wondering: do I have cavities? Do I need sealants? Is the engine ACTUALLY falling out of my car? Instead of rushing back, I decided to have a second dentist take a look. Curiously, dentist number 2 told me that the sealants I'd had put on as a kid had fallen out (so there was nothing to remove) and she saw no cavities (so there was nothing to fill). This news left me feeling like Cambridgeside Dental was trying to sell me a new engine when I didn't even have a car. Needless to say, I won't be back because I can't trust their advice. Cambridgeside Detal is as good as it gets. I used to go here as a teenager and they were always so nice. When I came back to the area, I set-up a new patient visit. I have been a few times and Im so happy I came back. They have clean facilities (Im a grem-a-fobe), friendly staff and it is easy to get an appointment. I always feel like they (specifically "Dr. Jennifer") are working with me for best options and not dictating to me. read more

I started going to Dr. Goldstone a number of years ago. He's wonderful. This office was very sensitive to my nervousness about getting a root canal; the assistant even held my hand! I really recommend their office for nervous nellies. The hygienists are good, very thorough and knowledgeable. The staff is friendly. Sad that Dr. G. is retired but the Indian gentleman (I forgot his name) seems great. I have to get a bunch of work done on a tooth Dr. G repaired a while ago and it's gonna need an expensive job done; glad I have insurance! read more
