Our entire family goes to Alpha Optical for eye care. Dr. Upchurch stays up to date with current advances in the field and has helped us with accurate diagnosis and treatment. He cares for the individual and takes time to both listen well and ask follow up questions. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Fittings are top notch and when I had no idea about what choosing new glasses, Chase was so helpful in helping me find a pair that was lightweight and met my needs for when I'm not in my contacts. Another thing I love about the practice, is that they keep an eye on things that might be developing, so that nothing slips through the cracks. They come highly rated & recommended by our family. read more

Our family of 9 has gone to Dr. Upchurch for more than 15 years. He is thorough, careful and caring, taking plenty of time to get it right. He and his staff are kind and courteous and helpful, making appointments as soon as possible, and staying on schedule. You will not have to wait long in the waiting room. I know that Dr. Upchurch gives of his time to also help people in third world countries -- he truly cares. You will not be disappointed. He will take great care of you -- he's trustworthy. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Upchurch since I moved to Texas (ok, I saw 2 clowns before I found Dr Upchurch). He is kind, patient, and professional. He expects the same from his staff and they are all very professional. I always get a great exam and my contacts work great. In addition to fitting me for lenses he is concerned with the overall health of my eyes, which is important as I am a photographer. I highly recommend Dr Upchurch and Alpha Optical read more

This review is based on my experience over the phone with the receptionist. When I called, the lady that answered the phone sounded annoyed that I was calling so early in the morning. Maybe she had a bad day. She asked for my insurance information and kept asking me to repeat myself. When I asked her about the exams and how much it would cost for my contact lens and eyeglass exam, she said she wasn't sure. She didn't even bother to find out or tried to set an appointment. Needless to say, I did not book an appointment. read more

I can't say enough positive comments about Dr. Upchurch and his staff. I have been a patient for several years; the patient care is excellent. I have been a patient for many years back when the office was located on University Dr in McKinney. Dr. Upchurch and his staff are always friendly and courteous. No problems making an appointment and the exams don't take very long at all. The office handles the paperwork and insurance in an efficient manner. They have an optical shop where you can buy and/or get your glasses fixed. The office is set back from the highway so you might have trouble seeing it at first. There is a sign board along the parkway listing the office. read more

I did not go to Dr. Upchurch for my glasses, but worked with Chase in his office to choose frames, etc. I have prisms in my glasses and the beginning of macular degeneration (which I did not know at the time) so I had been given the prescription for near and far glasses. Chase willingly worked with me picking out the frames, etc. and my bill was over $1400 with discounts. The battle to see has been a journey this year and I had problems with reading at times and it seemed to get worse. So I went back to Chase, trying to see if the distance vision for each pair was the problem. I finally was scheduled for a eye exam with Dr. Upchurch, which I paid for and he determined the distances worked but said he would have Chase see if my prescription could be turned into progressive lenses which I have always worn. Chase never did that, when I called about seeing him for sun glasses the woman who answered the phone made sure he knew I was on the phone as she screamed in my ear - he did not take the call and he has never gotten back to me on the progressive lenses. Act like petulant children and I will never go back there. If my glasses need adjustment as they have once already I will go to a doctor whole staff is on board to serve customers and not irresponsible petulant children. I will never go back there and if you want complete service for your money, I recommend you avoid this office. read more

Absolutely the best! Alan is great and the staff is as well. Don't trust your eyes to anyone else.

The front desk is very unprofessional. I hate this has to be under Dr. Upchurch's name but you need to get new representatives. They do not value their job at all and give inaccurate information. If you do not like your job or respect what you do find somewhere else to work. Update: After double checking coverage the front desk overcharged and did not verify insurance information. When insurance called to question the discrepancy the front desk continuously pushed back. I will keep the 1 star rating for consistency at least you have that going for you. read more

The front end staff is incompetent. Left a message several times to schedule a appointment. Never received a phone call. My wife drove up there to schedule an appointment. She scheduled me on one of my days off at 10am. The first appointment of the day. Was told they would be right with me. 45 minutes later after hearing Dr Uphurch giggling with the front end staff, I went to the front desk and see what the hold up was. They said my appointment was at 11am. I told them it was 10am. Apparently they bumped me to 11am without calling me. They mentioned nothing to me when I signed in at 10am. I have been a loyal patient at this practice so many years and lost my reading glasses. I had to pay approx 350 for replacement frames and lenses. I went in to pick them up and they were the wrong frames and the wrong RX on the lenses. Due to my travel schedule I was not able to get back to be seen for a few months. I asked their office if they could work with me and provide some kind of discount on my next set of frames and lenses and the lead Dr Upchurch refused to provide any level of discount or reimbursement. I realize my travel schedule prevented me from coming in but they are the ones who got the entire glass order incorrect in the first place. It's pathetic and very non-customer friendly especially for a patient who has been very loyal and even brought multiple patients to the practice. Obviously their bottom line is more important than patient satisfaction. NOT OKAY ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS YOUR INCOMPETENCE THAT GOT MY GLASSES WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! read more
