Lines to order and wait at KCC Farmers Market where Aloha Nata bakes their custard tarts in portable ovens. After I placed order for 6 assorted tarts (original, coconut, Manoa chocolate, Portuguese sausage, ube, macadamia nut) for $25, woman who took my order explained 10-minute wait for coconut/haupia tart in oven or I could choose another flavor. Pricing same for frozen and baked. Worthwhile wait because coconut ended up as my favorite, with lovely texture of shredded coconut mixed in custard; enjoyed other flavors, too.
Appreciate Aloha Nata's use of organic flour and dairy, grass-fed butter, local eggs and flavors; sprinkling with confectioners' sugar is optional, so I did without. Just wish there was more custard, and less crust, which was hard to cut into to split and share.
Ambiance: Aloha Nata's booth under tree that provided shade. Staff of 3 appeared to work as efficiently as possible to process orders, so didn't get to engage much; signage was informative! read more
