Wow! This food is insanely delicious! As we knew that we would be passing through Eugene yesterday,…read moreI started looking up restaurants. I was enticed by the pictures of fresh salads and wood fired pizzas. We ended up getting a few pizzas, a couple different pastas. They were all so flavorful (not salty) the texture of the gnocchi was so soft and absorbed the flavorful sauce. We were all blown away. We used QR to order, and were advised to order in waves. Drinks first. Everything came out promptly, even though the restaurant was pretty full. The last few days we ate at some incredible restaurants. Cold Springs Tavern in Santa Barbara, Nepenthe in Big Sur, then we come to Osteria DOP and all agreed the food here was unmatched. The best. For driving many hours, I liked that the atmosphere was casual, but it still looked modern and nice.

The pasta was a nice al dente and had a good coat of sauce. Despite the restaurant being fairly busy, the food came relatively quickly! The restaurant has limited tables, so expect a wait! There are also bar seats and seats that face a wall. There are QR codes at tables to scan and place your order, and the waiters that bring/bus food were super friendly. All and all, Osteria DOP was a great experience! I will be back to try out more items from their menu.

It's my sister's favorite butcher shop though, and when I'm going to make a pot roast I want to use the best meat, so we stopped by here. It was larger and more spacious than a lot of butchers which I appreciated--often they're super crowded. The area where you enter has a nice selection of cheese and wines as well as some other foods. The staff was friendly and helpful. ETA: Today when I started to make my pot roast, imagine my surprise when I found that I had two chuck steaks... not really super conducive to pot roast, and a little annoying since I asked for chuck roast. I've been to other butchers and asked for chuck roast and never been given bone-in chuck steak. This isn't something I could use because it wouldn't fit into the pot and I couldn't cut it with the bone in, so I had to go buy another $40 of meat at Albertson's. Not sure that I'll be returning to Long's. Hope my sister can use the meat so it won't be a total waste of the $30 I spent here.

Their selection of organic herbs is incredible -- everything I've ordered has arrived fresh, fragrant, and high quality, and I really appreciate that many of their herbs are locally sourced whenever possible. Shipping is always fast, and I love that they offer back-in-stock notifications so I can keep track of harder-to-find items without constantly checking the website myself. It's clear they've put thought into making the experience easy and supportive for customers. What really makes them stand out to me is that they're more than just a place to buy herbs. They also offer books, classes, and educational resources that help connect people to the wider herbal community. Whether you're completely new to herbalism or have been studying plants for years, they make learning feel accessible and welcoming. Mountain Rose Herbs feels like a company that genuinely cares about plants, sustainability, education, and the people using their products -- and that's rare these days.

Show up and plan to stay a while. Everything about this place was fascinating. The wall of looseleaf tea was particularly astounding. They have a small magnetic display of containers that lets you visualize and smell each type of tea before you purchase. I was particularly enamored with the vanilla rooibos. I love the vintage setting in this aging building. The coffee shop next-door is phenomenal and the local home goods store across the street is a personal favorite. The trio would be an excellent way to spend a meandering afternoon and indulge yourself in fresh coffee, natural products and a few things to upgrade your home interior. Parking is really easy in the dedicated lot and the location is quite central. Prices are very reasonable and the employees were very friendly. I didn't see a bathroom so you might have to go next-door to the coffee shop. Next time I visit, I want to try the shortbread near the checkout counter.

If you love local, sustainable, ethical, wild foods (especially mushrooms) then check out Eating…read moreOregon. We've been buying products from Matthew for years now, but he only just officially incorporated his business. He's a fully licensed hunter and mushroom gatherer/seller who spends most of his free time going out into the woods in the Eugene/Cascades area to gather and hunt his own wild foods. We reap the benefits of his hard work, at prices that are very comparable to what you would find at the store/market. (Did you know most of the mushrooms at the Farmer's Market are actually farmed, not gathered?) He does everything he can to keep his prices as low as possible. We bought some chanterelles today at $10.50 a pound, and he delivered them to our door. For comparison, I noticed they were $16 today at Market of Choice, and those are farmed, not harvested fresh from the woods around Eugene. he's coming back tomorrow with porcini! We've bought a wide variety of stuff from Matthew, but we especially love the chanterelles. If he has time, he delivers them to our door too, often on the same day he found them. Unless you're gathering chanterelles in your won backyard, it doesn't get more fresh or local than that. His selections are obviously limited to the season, and to what he was able to find/hunt, but he posts what he found on their Facebook page, so you can easily see what's freshly available. That's the easiest way to get in touch with him too (at least for us, since we don't like to call people on the phone) And Matthew's extremely meticulous about cleaning his products too, so you'll get perfect mushrooms ready to go straight into your pan!
