The food is good. Most people agree with that! My toddler poked a hole in the side of his drink and when I took it to the front, there seemed to be confusion about how to take care of it. The little girl running the register had to ask her mother what to do. The mother gladly gave us another cup. Of course my little boy made a mess on the table because he poked a hole in the side of the cup. We needed paper towels to clean it up with. I sent my other little boy up to the front to get paper towels. The little girl running the register told him that he would get some with his meal. This was my first time eating here. The place is small, with only 6 tables for very limited seating. On the up side, there are picnic table/benches outside for waiting. I was told the food is absolutely amazing but was not prepared for the wait time. The wait time is absolutely ridiculous. We waited over an hour for our food while there were handfuls of people who came in after us, received their food way before we did. As for the food, I ordered the #1 (mixed bbq grill with chicken, pork, and beef). The combo comes with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad. The meat is served on a bed of chopped cabbage. The food portion is enormous for the price you pay. The pork ribs were on the verge of burnt and very tough to eat. Hardly any flavor unless you really like the charred meat taste. The chicken was juicy and very tasty, wasn't overdone nor was it charred. The beef was extremely tender for being a thin cut of meat. The taste, in my opinion, was better than Seoul here in Lubbock. There is enough food stuffed into the to go container for 2 people to eat, or to have plenty of leftovers twice. I also had a bite of their spam musubi. It was to salty for me (SIDE NOTE: I don't eat or cook with a lot of salt for medical reasons so it doesn't take much!). It wasn't my favorite food I tried. Overall, what it comes down to is this.... It was not worth the wait time to get food. Aloha BBQ was on par with other places in town. It is not central to majority of travel in Lubbock and is out of the way. I love this place! Every time I am in town I run here and get a huge plate of food. They are super nice and fun ppl. They have take out. They are a walk up and order establishment. They food is hot, prepared and fresh. They have pictures on the rt wall was you walk in. Which for me is supper helpful. Their chicken or stake bowls are so good!!! And in a very generous portion. I have never been able to finish. There is a dish called Mona puwa. Or some spelling to that effect. It is white rice, spam and wrapped in seaweed. It is like a huge sushi roll. But hot and sweet. It really good. So the first time we went in here it was the day after I had attempted to make my husband an Asian style short ribs. To which I failed miserably. Sauce before BBQ. Ya I know. I travel quite a bit for work. Sometimes, I go to fairly remote places where there is only a McDonalds or a Burger King. I love good flavorful food. This place reminds me of Ono Hawaiian BBQ but with a better value. The portions are HUGE!!! Service is what you would expect from a typical Chinese fast food restaurant in Southern California, minus the fact that I was in Lubbock. Rude in the eyes of most Americans but the norm for me. The spam musubi had a solid inch and a half of rice with a thin slice of spam. The ratio was off. Lol. Now let's talk the BBQ plate. There give you lots of meat. The chicken and the ribs were quite flavorful and tender. The bbq beef was good, but I preferred the ribs and chicken. It also comes with 2 scoops of rice and Hawaiian style macaroni salad. Food for days!! I wasn't feeling well and just wanted some quick, comfort food. This was exactly what I needed! I ordered the chicken fried rice and could barely eat half of it! The chicken was more of a Hawaiian barbecue style flavor and the rice was delicious! Here is the deal: they almost never answer the phone for phone in orders, the place is tiny and a dump, the customer service sucks, but the food for sure hits the spot. I don't think they realize that if they hired another two people, one to answer calls and clean the place, and one to cook the additional orders, they'd make a LOT more money. This place is one of my favourite in Lubbock. I absolutely love it! The only downside is that it is a very small restaurant and is usually packed, so I recommend calling in your order and taking it to go. I also found that calling in ahead is a good way to make sure they are open, because it tends to randomly close throughout the year. read more

I am glad that I tried this place. I was very skeptical when I first saw the place. The restaurant had a fast-food flare and the furniture looked totally cheap and outdated. It reminded me of a cheap Chinese place near Woodely Park, D.C., where I had to grab my to-go food during my grad student days. Being nostalgic on one side, I ordered my food. The lady who took my order does not seem to care what hospitality is. No "American" smile and her description of food was nothing more than what was in the picture. Interestingly, I didn't mind because sometimes superficial over cheerful hospitality with forced smile does get a bit annoying. It seemed that her blunt attitude was more appropriate to me at this store. Then, nice surprise! The lady brought our food to the table. It is given in a styrofoam container (ah, good old grad student days) but the food was flavorful. I had BBQ beef. The meat was a bit too chewy for my taste, but I liked the flavor. Beef was served over cabbage, so it allowed me to balance beef and veggies. It also came with macaroni side dish and rice. I was not a huge fan of macaroni thingy because it was nothing more than macaroni, mayo, and tiny bits of carrots. Rice was ok, just what I expected to get at a typical take-out restaurant. Overall, it was not bad at all. I think it's a great addition to Lubbock food scene (if such thing existed), because it needs more diversity. I've been to Hawaii three times and this food tastes very authentic. Get the BBQ mix plate to try a little of everything. It's very busy at the restaurant so be ready to wait. A lot of people comment on here about the "grumpy" lady at the counter, but she's awesome. Being born and raised in Hawaii, moving to Texas made it extremely difficult to find local island food that I hold near and dear to my heart. However, upon finding Aloha BBQ I can finally that I have found a place that satisfies my local BBQ cravings! I tried the mixed plate and I cried when I tasted the proteins and mac salad.
