I travel quite a bit for work. Sometimes, I go to fairly remote places where there is only a McDonalds or a Burger King. I love good flavorful food. This place reminds me of Ono Hawaiian BBQ but with a better value. The portions are HUGE!!! Service is what you would expect from a typical Chinese fast food restaurant in Southern California, minus the fact that I was in Lubbock. Rude in the eyes of most Americans but the norm for me. The spam musubi had a solid inch and a half of rice with a thin slice of spam. The ratio was off. Lol. Now let's talk the BBQ plate. There give you lots of meat. The chicken and the ribs were quite flavorful and tender. The bbq beef was good, but I preferred the ribs and chicken. It also comes with 2 scoops of rice and Hawaiian style macaroni salad. They are not very friendly and actually the lady up from has been asleep a few times I have gone in but the food is so good it's worth it.

Here is the deal: they almost never answer the phone for phone in orders, the place is tiny and a dump, the customer service sucks, but the food for sure hits the spot. I don't think they realize that if they hired another two people, one to answer calls and clean the place, and one to cook the additional orders, they'd make a LOT more money. This place is one of my favourite in Lubbock. I absolutely love it! The only downside is that it is a very small restaurant and is usually packed, so I recommend calling in your order and taking it to go. I also found that calling in ahead is a good way to make sure they are open, because it tends to randomly close throughout the year. read more

I've eaten here quite a few times since they opened in Lubbock in the mid-2000's. The portions are always huge and the food is always good, It's a very unique restaurant for west Texas and there isn't anything else quite like it in town. I usually order the BBQ mix plate, but I also really enjoy the beef fried rice or beef with noodles. My wife really enjoys the Loco Moco and Kalua Pork w/ cabbage and they are both very good, too. Most of the entrees come with a side of steamed white rice and macaroni salad, which is always very good. As far as sides go, the egg rolls and manapua are both great! It's a pretty small place, so carry out orders are common. If you have a party larger that 4 people, there won't be any tables big enough for you. THE PORTIONS ARE HUGE! It is a great value. Most of my friends and their spouses share an entree. I love leftovers, so I usually order my own entree. Their food is great left over thrown into a pan with some butter on high! The food here is always fresh and full of flavor. I love how juicy the BBQ chicken is, and the rice is always done perfectly. It is a little out of central Lubbock and more South then I am used to going. It is worth the drive though. I love have unique their flavors are. I cannot find anything else like this in Lubbock. Everything was on-point. My brother goes here a ton and has also never been disappointed. The chicken fried rice was delicious. The chicken was grilled perfectly, juicy, and had amazing flavor. The food is good. Most people agree with that! My toddler poked a hole in the side of his drink and when I took it to the front, there seemed to be confusion about how to take care of it. The little girl running the register had to ask her mother what to do. The mother gladly gave us another cup. Of course my little boy made a mess on the table because he poked a hole in the side of the cup. We needed paper towels to clean it up with. I sent my other little boy up to the front to get paper towels. The little girl running the register told him that he would get some with his meal. I had to go to the bathroom to get paper towels out of the dispenser to clean up my mess. read more

The chicken was more of a Hawaiian barbecue style flavor and the rice was delicious! I love this place! Every time I am in town I run here and get a huge plate of food. They are super nice and fun ppl. They have take out. They are a walk up and order establishment. They food is hot, prepared and fresh. They have pictures on the rt wall was you walk in. Which for me is supper helpful. Their chicken or stake bowls are so good!!! And in a very generous portion. I have never been able to finish. There is a dish called Mona puwa. Or some spelling to that effect. It is white rice, spam and wrapped in seaweed. It is like a huge sushi roll. But hot and sweet. It really good. So the first time we went in here it was the day after I had attempted to make my husband an Asian style short ribs. To which I failed miserably. Sauce before BBQ. Ya I know. Easily a top 3 restaurant in Lubbock. It's a must have when you visit! Prices are CHEAP and portions are huge. A lot of people comment on here about the "grumpy" lady at the counter, but she's awesome. I am glad that I tried this place. I was very skeptical when I first saw the place. The restaurant had a fast-food flare and the furniture looked totally cheap and outdated. It reminded me of a cheap Chinese place near Woodely Park, D.C., where I had to grab my to-go food during my grad student days. Being nostalgic on one side, I ordered my food. The lady who took my order does not seem to care what hospitality is. No "American" smile and her description of food was nothing more than what was in the picture. Interestingly, I didn't mind because sometimes superficial over cheerful hospitality with forced smile does get a bit annoying. It seemed that her blunt attitude was more appropriate to me at this store. Then, nice surprise! The lady brought our food to the table. It is given in a styrofoam container (ah, good old grad student days) but the food was flavorful. I had BBQ beef. The meat was a bit too chewy for my taste, but I liked the flavor. Beef was served over cabbage, so it allowed me to balance beef and veggies. It also came with macaroni side dish and rice. I was not a huge fan of macaroni thingy because it was nothing more than macaroni, mayo, and tiny bits of carrots. Rice was ok, just what I expected to get at a typical take-out restaurant. Overall, it was not bad at all. I think it's a great addition to Lubbock food scene (if such thing existed), because it needs more diversity. We have been calling this place for 3 weeks straight and just figured they had to go out of town. Well last night a coworker went there and what do you know! They were open. Well after informing me I called to try and put in an order and they stood there and ignored the phone for the entirety of my coworkers visit. I'm assuming the owner knows of this practice or is the one implementing it, but if not, the employees are gouging their business. It's money down the drain. Being born and raised in Hawaii, moving to Texas made it extremely difficult to find local island food that I hold near and dear to my heart. However, upon finding Aloha BBQ I can finally that I have found a place that satisfies my local BBQ cravings! I tried the mixed plate and I cried when I tasted the proteins and mac salad. This place is a favorite of ours when we're in a mood for Asian style food. I typically always get the fried rice with beef and my wife gets the stir fried noodles with beef. No matter what you get from this place, you're going to get a TON of food. Seriously, I always thing the bag they put your food in is going to break when you're carrying it! I always call in to order and pick it up to take it home. I would recommend calling about 30 minutes or more before you're ready to pick it up. My other suggestion would be to have your order ready when you call and don't expect much dialogue or "customer service" from the lady who answers the phone.
