This is our third trip to the area and this continues to be our favorite restaurant! Can't beat the food. You get huge portions, I've yet to finish a meal, and it's GREAT food! Me and a group of friends are avid Kancamagus campers. I had passed by Almost There every summer for years. During good weather, there's always people on their outdoor patio area, and they always look like they're having fun. So we finally stopped in to try the place before heading to camping trip at my insistence. It is just before the turn for the Kancamagus Highway on route 16, across from the Mobile. Almost There definitely has a cool atmosphere to it. Nothing fancy and it's definitely reminiscent of Road House, but in a good way (if that makes any sense). I can't stand bland looking, boring, forgettable looking, chain restaurants bars personally. The restaurant is a pretty good size. Indoor seating with a bar, and an outdoor patio with a tiki bar open when the weather is nice. They have a jukebox for music, and live bands on some nights. The hostess and waitstaff were all very friendly to us, huge plus right there in my book. We sat at the bar, and our bartender (I forget his name, unfortunately) was awesome. He was as well have been a comedian, he was engaging, funny, and helpful with tips on the menu. Very nice guy. The drinks were on the weak side because they carefully measure how liquor goes in each. They have beers on tap. The bar was pretty cool, lot of sports memorabilia, life size cutout of Larry Bird from the 80's, and a wall covered in patches from Fire, EMT, and police departments across New England and New York from what I could see. I was surprised to see my hometown's PD patch on the wall, Malden, MA. Pretty cool touch. The food here is NOT for the health nut. Everything they served was basically comfort food. I started with a really good seafood chowder, followed by a chicken fried steak dinner (I had never had before, but I was feeling bold) with mushroom gravy that convinced me I was in fact in the South and not in New Hampshire. Delicious. Sides were mashed potatoes and broccoli. Also good. Almost There is nothing fancy at all, but it's a cool atmosphere with really good food and a friendly, engaging staff. I would definitely recommended trying it if you're around Albany, NH/Conway, NH. We'll be stopping here before we go to the Kanc from now on. read more

Can only rate it based on seating outside, the band playing, and drinks as we didn't dine there. With that said, I loved this venue and will definitely venture back after a hike one day. We arrived on a Friday around 4pm and the Simon Crawford band was playing great music of days gone by and playing it really well, too. That was a special treat given it was still daylight out. Great little local bar serving great food with great service! They all share tables and tell you from the start! They were super attentive and friendly and food came fast and was hot and delicious. Went to lunch with my sister who works at profile Subaru next door. I wanted a cheeseburger, which is something this place advertises on the main sign. After finding the entrance and entering the business I soon realized that this is a "has been" dirty dive bar. I regretted my decision to stay close to her work, should have known better when my sister asked "are you sure?" FML. Ended up overpaying for a greasy ball of a burger. What an absolute mess. Onion rings were good, but its kinda hard to mess those up when you don't make them in house. Not kid friendly at all. The other patrons were nicer than the overwhelmed bartender that got stuck with us. We were pleasantly surprised by the great value on the menu. Great prices, big portions. We went for lunch on a Tuesday. Lots of options for many appetites. Service was fast, efficient and friendly. We ordered the kinds of items that would have been "just enough" at that price point at other restaurants but we brought home a full second meal for two people because there was so much good food. The "Fan Favorite" appetizer could easily be a meal for two in itself! For reference, the night before we ate at a 99 restaurant and while it's a reliable go-to when you get into town too late for the trendy places, it was much more expensive for food that was definitely not as good as at this establishment. Food was HOT and fresh when it came to the table. Onion rings were amazing, burger was thick and juicy, fried shrimp were huge tender and sweet. It felt like a north country Friendly's with a bar, but more homey. Just south of the Kanc exit onto 16, it was easy access. Did I mention the service was fast?? THE BEST!!! This is our "go to" restaurant when in the area. Incredible burgers but many other options as well. We LOVE "Cowboy" the waiter/bartender. They have the BEST onion rings in the world (if you like the skinny, crunchy ones). It is a bar with plenty of TVs, juke box, pool table, dart boards and incredible live music on Friday nights and the place gets really crowded but is lots of fun. In summertime, they set up an outdoor patio and bar. We drove by Almost There many times before going in because it looks like a biker bar but the people there are incredibly friendly, warm and welcoming. Trust me you will LOVE IT. After pitching a tent, eating breakfast, shopping in North Conway and a trip to Shaw's, I was ready for an adult beverage. Beers by the campfire? Sounded perfect. I literally walked out of the grocery store and it started to POUR. I wasn't saddling up at the campsite just yet because as I know from experience - soggy campers aren't usually happy ones. Looked like it was time for a detour to a bar with burgers since grilling outside was well, out. After looking at that map, we found "Almost There Sports Bar and Tavern". The sign reads, "Best Burger in Town". Sold. Almost There was filling up with locals when my tent mate and I arrived around 4PM. The space is definitely Sports Bar rustic and their is a large front patio looking over, uh, Rte 16. Almost There is a nice happy medium between a Sports Bar and a dive. Our waitress came by with menus right away and I ordered a Bloody. The bloody wasn't very good at all - more like tomato juice with a boatload of horseradish. For a starter, we settled on onion rings that were fresh and shoestring (plus, plus) but also extremely greasy. I ordered the burger with Swiss and then enjoyed the scene - lots of bikers and biker babes frequent this place. All of the sudden, I noticed something huge - our waitress was the ONLY waitress in the whole joint. She was also THE bartender. Crikies, it was a true one woman show! Such skill, that one! The burger WAS delicious and I'm willing to bet, true to Almost There's claim. If you find yourself in a rainstorm, stuck in traffic, or just plain hungry for some beef, hit up Almost There. read more

Went there for the first time after camping in the white mountains. The atmosphere was that of what you would see on TV with a Midwest Bar set. The food was sub par. Had some pot stickers that were more the consistency of Styrofoam than food. The sandwich was actually pretty good. The draft beer selection was all but nonexistent. Overall I can see the appeal. The waitress was warm and inviting. But, the atmosphere and food quality was really not what I had expected. We just came in looking for a warm spot that wasn't raining. I can't believe how many times my family and I have driven past this place without stopping and it makes me sad to think about it because I have been missing out on lots of delicious chili and beer. Almost There really doesn't look like much from the outside...or the inside for that matter. But for me it's all about the food and the service and this place really makes up for their looks with those. Their menu has a great selection of delicious pub fare. As I mentioned, I got the chili, which was great. My mother got the Reuben and absolutely loved it. They have a nice beer list, nothing revolutionary but they cover they major hitters. We actually had three servers during our meal there, 2 were bar tenders and one a waitress. They were all super friendly and attentive, and were even funny! Their presence combined with great prices and food really made this a fantastic experience. A different waitress came and took our meal order and then we waited about 45 min and a different waitress came and refilled our drinks.... well she tried got the beer right but not my cocktail. She returns and said it was never put in. She apologizes and asks us again what we ordered so she can put in, but we decline because we have already been there for an hour. When we are on our way home from the mountains, smelly from hiking, skiing, or backpacking, there's no place that we would rather be than "Almost There!" We have eaten here about a dozen times. We have never gotten anything less than spectacular from their menu. This is not a tourist trap like 99% of the places up the road in North Conway. The prices are great and their servings are filling. I'll let you in on a secret: When I was in my 20s and 30s, I was a full blown vegetarian for many years. As I have gotten older, I have added some fish to my diet, and less frequently, some chicken. I never eat red meat... unless it is a burger from "Almost There!" Sorry moo-cows, but having my one burger per year is so satisfying. I wouldn't dream of ordering it anywhere but "Almost There." I hope that you think this is the greatest compliment! read more
