I'm not sure why my review was deleted for this mall, but here it goes again... This mall is wonderful to shop at because it isn't packed like Baybrook. I really dread walking into a mall that is full of people and no time to browse since all you're seeing are heads and bodies. Now, that's no fun! Though, not at Almeda. OK, yes, this mall is vacant and most would say this is a Mexican mall, but heck go down to Baybrook and one wouldn't say, "oh, it's a white mall." Who knows, this place has been in business a lot longer than Baybrook and honestly I've been visiting this mall ever since I was a kid. I remember when they used to have Picadilly's and my mum would take my siblings to eat several times. I wouldn't leave my belongings out in the open anywhere and not even in a richer neighbourhood, but looks to some are everything. Great shops and friendly people. There's always a parking spot, so no worries on that one. If you want you can waste your time in traffic around Baybrook, go ahead, I'll be getting my walk on at Almeda! read more

I'm not much of a shopper, and maybe it's because I don't have much money, but even if I did I still wouldn't go shopping in Almeda Mall. It is surprising this mall has stayed in business as long as it has. It is quite small, the shops are really sub par at best, and they are constantly going through huge sales to survive. When you walk in the mall you will notice a very distinct feeling of despair from the look of the horrible brown tile, the plain and dirty walls, and the overall plain atmosphere given by most of the stores. The variety in the mall is nothing great. There are several shoe stores, clothing stores, and boring stands in the large corridors. If I had to describe the majority of the stores in the mall with one word, it would be ghetto. It's really just a ghetto mall. There is a ray of hope for the mall beaming through the despairing sense after you walk in though. There are some major retailers present that help oust the ghettoness with their shiny signs: Radioshack (no one cares about that one) Macy's KB Toys Bath & Body Works Finish Line Foot Locker GNC Icing by Claire's Journeys Almeda Mall does have a track record of doing something correctly, regardless of how ghetto it may seem. I've never been a fashion/clothing fanatic, but I know lots of women are. They do have quite an extensive selection of clothing for women at reasonable prices people would love to see from high-end malls. All and all, it's not my kind of mall, and I'm pretty sure it's not many other people's kind of mall either. There needs to be some serious remodeling, extensions to help out with its small variety, and overall, better stores. read more

Almeda Mall - Shopping Centers Near Me - Houston, Texas

Honestly, it's a pretty lack luster mall. Other then a few good sneaker stores, and a couple standard department stores, there isn't much to shop for. I don't know how they keep the lights on... I wish they would revamp this mall. Seriously, anyone under the age of 40 years old evades this place. I dream they'll add some baybrook/galleria -esk stores to shop in. read more

I've got to agree with Gabriel C, but let's shine a small light on my background. I do not live in the Almeda area and actually live closer to Baybrook. Annnd I have relatives that own a small eatery at that mall (I'll keep them and their business private.) Almeda isn't what you would call my scene. The decor is a bit old--I remember liking the carousel when I was a little kid? And the shops/fashion are incredibly dated as well. I mean, the last time I saw a Palais Royal was certainly not in the mall. But guess what, Almeda's got it! For those of us looking for higher end, clean, and modern shopping sites, Almeda isn't really the spot. But, as Gabriel said, it is a good place for a wide selection and cheaper prices. Let's just say that if Old Navy's across Houston were having sales, it'd be a safer bet to go to the one in Almeda over the one in Webster to find the style and size to your liking. And it also may be a bit cheaper. The biggest reason that Almeda still lacks much updating, though, is the sheer fact that it isn't in the best of neighborhoods. I hate to say it, but the style and decor of the mall reflects the neighborhoods surrounding it. And that's how I think it should be--if Almeda was updated, that audience may not visit the mall as much because prices would go up. omg you really think I'm gonna go here when the Baybrook mall is like 10 min away. haha never I will never step foot in this mall again. Old mall and how does this place even stay in business? Barley any stores left and the smallest mall I've ever been in and I ran to the car when I went out cause I thought someone was going to ask me for my phone and money. Not sure who said this Mall was closed, it isn't. I just called Macy's to double check to make sure they hadn't closed from when I was there 2 months ago. Yes, the Mall itself needs updating. But, it is clean and since it's enclosed I don't have to worry about the weather. I shop here at the Macy's, which is as nice as the one in Baybrook or Pearland, and I also like to check out the Burlington Outlet. It's junky but if you have time you can find some real good buys. read more

Holiday is almost here and so is the christmas shopping. I have a moral responsibily to warn people and to protect human being like me for not to be unfortunate in going to shop in this mall. Last week (November, 2011) We parked our car north side of Macy's parking lot, leaving $4000 worth of Jewelry, clothing, electronics and many other valuables in the trunk. Everything was for my close relative's wedding. We made sure the trunk was closed properly and that was our mistake. Some people in the parking lot probably were constantly watching others to determine who will be their prey for the day and they suspected us. As we went inside the store, in an hour and half, robbers smashed our car window, opened the trunk from inside and stole everything, emptying the trunk. Although mall security evidenced the incidence within half an hour after we parked, they did not inform of this mishap to the store management or store could make the announcement and call the police immediately. Neither Mall nor Macy's management took this incidence seriously; they did not take any responsibility of the incidence and were completely indifferent of our loss and suffering even after our request to help us. We learned from the store and mall security that north side and west side parking lot of Macy's store have no security camera, there was one but it broke and mall never replaced it. I believe thieves are aware of this and are constantly taking advantage of it. Also I learned that Robbery or burglary of car parked in Almeda parking lot is a regular occurrence. Many people told me of other horrifying story that customers have experienced previously in the same mall parking lot. I suspect that not just one person but a gang is involved in the burglary that may also include security and store personnel (who took us an hour and half that day to sell an item to me and I was worried leaving so many valuables in the car). Police just come and write a report and that's about it. No step has ever taken against this kind of crime happening day after day in the same place. I hope someone do something please to stop this. read more

Remember, Almeda mall is 42 years old and does cater to the neighborhood, lower middle class. In it's hay day, 35+ years ago (before Baybook mall or Pearland Town Center) it was the only shopping mall in Southeast Houston and one of the best malls in Houston. I remember going there as a kid and eating at Farrell's Ice-cream Parlor and Doctor's Pet store was across the way. Almeda has weathered better than it's sister mall Northwest Mall. I think that mall is about to shut it's doors. At least Macy's at Almeda reopened after Ike blew the roof off that store and Burlington Coat Factory took over the old JC Penny's space. It's not a great mall but it has survived. read more
