The catfish nuggets arw mouth watering. Seasoned very and the deserts are yummy. Homemade!!

I love this place! So far I've only had their desserts, but I plan to come back for food. I first had the coffee cake which is the second best next to my aunts (I usually only eat hers). Their coffee cake brought back so many memories for me it was emotional . Then recently I went and tried their lemon cookie bar cheesecake and the banana pudding cheesecake. The banana pudding one was my FAVORITE. It was so damn good I'll be driving back every now and then to go get me some. It's worth the drive. read more

So glad this gem is right across the street from my job! The customer service and warm welcoming atmosphere make you feel right at home. Can't wait to sample more of the delicious menu, everything I have tried so far has been amazing! read more

I simply love this restaurant. I had breakfast 2 weeks ago and decided to stay to and ordered dinner to go. Breakfast was prepared by Ms. Alma which was delicious, she even joined me for brrakfast, how awesome is that! Then Miss Corina prepared my dinner to go which consisted of Turkey chops, Mac & Cheese, Candied Yams and Dressing, she even surprised me with her amazing and delicious Banana Pudding Cheesecake. These ladies are so sweet and kind and it shows in their food. I love y'all. May God continue to bless you and your family business. read more

This place deserves all 5 of these stars and then some! Family, if you ever looking for an authentic overall experience, then please visit this business. You won't be disappointed. The food was delicious and the hospitality of everyone (workers and customers) was beautiful and an experience in itself. We left beyond satisfied and this was by far the best decision made while visiting the LA area. They got a customer for life. Thank you Alma's for a great time and slamming food. read more

Food is Fantastic. The price of lunch went up $2 since last week it is now $9.99 and now includes a can of soda for their lunch special which is still a excellent deal for the quality of their food. However the customer service at this place is greatly lacking. The young lady at the counter is either racist towards patrons of any ethnicity other than her own or is in serious need of training. I've also read many of your snarky remarks to your paying customers comments and I find your rants in defense of yourself absolutely ridiculous. Especially when your customers are providing you with useful suggestions to improve your business. I understand you cook good food and you know it but in the business world this will only carry you so far with the terrible way that you treat your customers. Pretty sure you won't be in business long if this doesn't change soon. Which is a shame because the food is delicious. But I rather take my hard earned money somewhere my business is appreciated. Alma's Place - Picture included to avoid my review being called "Fake News" - Desserts Near Me - Compton, California

Professional service. This is key. I ordered my food close to closing time and they were still more than accommodating. Food is made fresh and the smell in the restaurant made me want to sit there and eat instead of taking it home. Must try in the city. read more

The ox tails are delicious! I had mac and cheese along with sweet potatoes and it was all amazing! Everyone was super nice :-) Highly recommend! read more

The 2 stars are because the Hispanic girl working the register was nice BUT the food was a disgrace Lord I've never had such bland food !!! Chicken under fried very gummy tasting, fries were still stiff with absolutely no seasoning, MAC & CHEESE was literally just noodles not to mention they used the Italian noodles. & the corn bread was awful. I am glad to see a black owned business but I can't believe the good reviews fooled tf out of me ! The only good thing was the over sweetened Kool Aid. read more

Great Food and seasoned just right. The carrot cake and the lemon cookie cheese cake is great! read more

Being a southerner and having lived in the south and southeast for many years I'm used to good southern cooking and this by far has been one of my best experiences since moving to LA. I would have taken pictures but I was too busy eating. I ordered the turkey chops with Mac n cheese and black eyed peas. The chops were seasoned and fried to perfection. I topped it off with a coconut pineapple cake, a flavor I'm not actually that crazy about and I devoured it. The highlight was chatting with Alma's daughter (who is in the kitchen baking and cooking and managing things). She was super nice and personable, which matches the vibe and decor of the restaurant. She said they don't take short cuts and it shows, and you get what you pay for. PLEASE go visit this place y'all. You won't be disappointed! read more

I'm a truck triver, and was in the area for a couple hours. Googled soul food restaurants in the area and this place popped up. Was originally caught off guard by the name but decided to give it a shot. I've always been told that the best soul food comes from "ya momma's kitchen", while that may be true, this place is the exception! I had salmon croquettes that would give my mom's a run for her $$ any day!!! Excellent service, very friendly, I highly recommend this place. read more

My first time at Alma's! We all loved our breakfast! Alma greeted us and chatted with us and she is so nice. Family-run and obvious that they all genuinely enjoy it which made it much more than just a great food experience. read more

Alma's cookies and company was delish-5 stars for the good food, customer service. I work really close to Alma's (its located in the same parking lot as Popeyes) and a few people at the job have been talking about it, saying the food is good. So, of course me and my co-workers (the ones who haven't tried it) decided we would try breakfast. We ordered a few different items and split some of the food-so we could try everything. We ordered salmon crocquettes, bacon, grits, country potatoes, and eggs. We all enjoyed everything. The only thing Ms. Alma could not do was egg whites, a bummer but, its was fine...no big deal. I did place the order in advance (early this morning) you need to allow 30mins at least. I was lucky enough to meet Ms. Alma and not only is she a good cook but was really nice and even gave me a couple of canned orange juices due to the wait. She didnt need to do that-it was not expected so, thank you Ms. Alma. Thank you for the good food and great customer service. Wishing you the best and see you soon. #peace read more

I wish still had some of the beans and rice left to take a picture. This place is a diamond in the rough! Hidden treasure in Compton! I stumbled across this place looking for something quick to eat for lunch. I just so happen to arrive when the 7-up mini loaf was still warm. Oh my! I has to call my husband and recommended this place for him on his way to work. He went in and ordered the same thing. read more

This has to be the best home cooked soul food in all of LA. Maybe in all of California!? Wow. Had the turkey chops and they were delicious! Mac and Cheese was delicious! So I've been coming here almost every 3-4 days for the past month. I started with the peach cobbler then came back to try the enchiladas. I was hooked immediately, I've tried the pancake breakfast, chicken & waffles, the fried chicken dinner, the meat loaf, and I always got greens and Mac and cheese as my sides. Also if your looking for great desserts then you'll be more than pleased with the banana pudding cheesecake, red velvet cheesecake, or even a slice of pecan pie. read more

Do yourself a favor and visit Alma's! The name is a little misleading as they do far more than dessert, though their cakes, cobbler, and banana pudding are to die for! My personal favs are the fried catfish and turkey chop that are not greasy in the slightest and are well seasoned/corn meal crusted (catfish). Perfect Mac and cheese and greens with a corn muffin round out the heaven sent goodness. read more

Being family owned gives this business another "Pleasant" ingredient. Along with the ladies in the kitchen you will find Ms. Alma's other daughter, Yvonda and grandson Brandon plus an array of other family and friends showing up to offer support. Come on in and let them extend the wonderful hospitality they have been dishing up to family and friends for many years; you'll be glad you stopped in. It's all good! read more

My 1st time. The prices on yelp didn't match actual pricing. Thought too pricey. Oxtails we're good, macaroni too salty, greens were good. 1 little piece of cornbread which was not good. Meal cost almost $20. All the delicious sweets listed on the dessert menu, I was interested in the mango cheesecake. Oh! Not available, you have to special order! read more

My first time eating here and I must say that upon entering I was a bit hesitant as there was only one person there eating on a Saturday morning. Boy did I hit jackpot with this one!! The food was so delicious and filling. I even stepped out of my comfort order and tried the shrimp and grits, eggs over-easy and home fries. My friend had Pumpkins Country Breakfast with salmon croquettes. Both dishes were so delicious, you could taste the love that it was made with to order and I didn't have to send anything back. As though that wasn't enough Alma came out and served us our breakfast. She was so personable that we talked as if we had known each other for years. No doubt this is the best soul food hands down that I have eaten in a long time. Alma continue to keep God first and you will continue to be blessed beyond your wildest dreams read more
