    pork chops
    Richard B.

OMG! The food here is soooo bomb. We tried the pork chops, the turkey chops, dressing, Mac and cheese, yams, potato salad, and the lemon cake. Not one complaint here. I only wish they had a location somewhere on the Westside, so I could go more often

Mrs Alma, you did it for me, momma. I'm from the south atlanta, to be exact, my parents from Tennessee deeply rooted, but babyyyyyyy let me tell you, you took me back home with this one. Everything I ordered was too perfect, even the stove top homemade banana pudding. My mother normally made hers in the oven, but that stove top is hitting. Your ambiance is beautiful and welcoming. Everyone was friendly, especially the young man at the front counter, and the young lady. Continue striving for excellence and serving the community. Great Establishment for sure! My order: Fried chicken wing entree With macaroni and cheese, potato salad, greens, and dressing, I also got the banana pudding with a classic cherry Kool-Aid. Thank you, Tasha

Chicken dinner with two sides and cornbread (which tasted reheated from frozen).

Didn't care for it. The food is bland. The Mac was cheese less. The cabbage was almost clear and not for me. The wings were missing a piece, the cornbread tasted like it was once frozen and reheated and honestly this whole dinner at this quick serve restaurant ("QSR") was just not worth it. The attitude of the owners daughter was terrible. No personality. My companion ordered peach cobbler which is served cold. He requested it to be warmed. They refused. He wanted it warmed in a non plastic container. This peach cobbler was $9. She offered to heat it up but charge $1 for the box. Hahahahah! We just paid $60+ for lackluster food and are insulted by a $1 extra to warm up the dessert. He returned it. She sent it back in a bag by her cashier who said nothing when she put it on the table next to us. He asked her to please take it and refund it. The owners daughter refused. He politely advised that by law she had to refund it. She finally did. I would NEVER return here again. NEVER. UPDATE: To the owner: You did come out front to rearrange the desserts and we did interact and you were unpleasant. No smile. No hello. You should stay in the kitchen. We should have left but his order was already placed. I prefer to patronize businesses represented by owners who have grace and are happy to have customers. We were highly excited to try your place. We regret adding any revenue to your business. It's an experience we are happy to forget. Based upon your disgraceful response, you confirmed every word in my review and how awful your attitude is towards people keep your business afloat.

    No table service

The place itself was very well-maintained, clean, well decorated, and inviting. A group of us went there and ordered their lunch specials, which we found to be a bit pricey considering the portion size. We ordered the chicken wing lunch special, and was very disappointed when we were not given the whole wing...the drumsticks part of the wing was cut off of every piece...maybe because it was the lunch special? The service was okay...a lot of yelling going on when calling orders out to the kitchen. What I thought was a bit much was when some lady came out of the kitchen to yell at a customer to close the front door, because she doesn't feel like chasing flies! While understandable, there could have been a better way for her to ask the customer to close the door. Lastly, they made it very clear to clean up after yourself, as there was no table service available. Updated review: Based on the owner's response, she's correct! We should've gone across the parking lot to patronize Popeyes. Seeing that the pork chops were half cooked, the cornbread was dry and crumbly, and the Mac and cheese bland. I'd gladly pay for a big box at Popeyes then eat here again!

Fried catfish hellla good. Collards Red beans and rice, I didn't like.

Super cute place. The decor is cozy. Dine in only available until lunchtime and they close at 5pm which is painful. Food was over all good. The fried catfish HELLA GOOD. Wasn't a fan of the side dishes but that spoon fruit lemonade was delicious. Service was great, staff friendly and food received in a timely manner. I will definitely revisit if I'm working too late.

I love this place, the best catfish in LA! The cookie gal breakfast was yummy, the bacon cooked perfectly and fried potatoes with peppers are delicious! Service friendly and food comes out quick! I need to try desserts

I was in the area and had Alma's bookmarked on places to try. I'm glad I stopped by. Upon entry the decor was so modern and welcoming. It was very clean and the ventilation system was doing a great job I didn't smell anything frying. I got the catfish mac n cheese greens and corn bread muffin. Everything was full of flavor, seasoned and cooked just right. The customer service was even better. I totally loved my Alma's Place experience.

Table, whole meal, greens with a lot of stems.

I wanted to love this place. $43 for oxtails at "market price " is obtuse. The three sides, macaroni & cheese (bland), yams (tasted like canned) and greens (full of stems), could have earned another star. In fairness, the portions were decent. I had enough for the next day. The flavor didn't really come through.

How do I see and order cakes and other sweets? Did not see option on website

You can place an order over the phone or in person. Photos aren't available of every dessert, but you can see some on our Instagram account, here on Yelp, or Google.

Can I order soul food during breakfast? Or do I have to wait until a certain time?

I have seen them do fried catfish or shrimp and grits during breakfast. I would suggest calling ahead to confirm.

How many days in advance would I need to order the pan of yams and mac and cheese? And could I also order a regular pan of banana cheesecake pudding?

Typically one day for catering sides, and 2 days for all cakes, pies, or cheesecakes

Also is there a way that I could purchase a large order of yams? Something large enough for a party(aluminum pan)

Sure thing. There's a posted photo of our catering menu listing sides as well as main dishes. You can order by paying over the phone, or In person. Hope this helps.you can also call us directly at the restaurant at 424-381-4410

What kind of meat are the greens made with?

Hi Jasmyne! Our collard greens, red beans, black-eyed peas and white beans are all made with smoked turkey.

Do you take phone orders for take out?

We do not at this time

    When are you guys open?

Hours are listed on our page here on Yelp. 7-7 daily, closed Mondays

My review is based on the food truck. It was my son's birthday. He was allowed to chose anything he wanted for dinner. Any price point... anything. Well i had seen this on Instagram and shared it with him two weeks prior. At first he wanted to go to Nobu or there were a few other high end options, but that is not his style honestly. Luckily, he remembered the post that I shared. He wanted to go here. Well, buckle up kids, we are going on a field trip! We left work/schools early and took a drive to Compton. When our navigation said we had arrived it suggested we park in the lot across from the library. Ok. There directly in front of the library was the food truck. There was a small line, so that was ideal. Not a long wait. My other smaller human and i went to wash their hands in the library. When i came out he had ordered the hungry man or something. It was more than enough for us. The oxtail was good. The ribs were good. The chicken was good. The cornbread was yummy. Just not over the moon for the greens... and i loooove collard greens. But that's ok. We went for the meats. They were out of the dinosaur ribs, so maybe if we go early enough next time, we can try those. We took it across the street to the park and ate and that was enough time for the small one to also play to get energy out before we headed home. The drive home was long, now that rush hour traffic had started. But none of us complained, because the meal was worth it.

My family and I came to M&M's Soul Food Restaurant after a funeral service on Tuesday, and I can honestly say this place exceeded every expectation. Every single dish we ordered was outstanding. The short ribs, fried chicken, oxtails, catfish, collard greens, cabbage, macaroni and cheese, black eyed peas, yams, rice and gravy, cornbread, and even the sweet tea were absolutely delicious. It's rare to find a restaurant where everything is that good, but they pulled it off. The service was just as impressive as the food. Every person who helped us was friendly, welcoming, and had a great attitude. That's how customer service is supposed to be. We had a large group, and not one person had a single complaint--which is saying a lot! The atmosphere was warm, comfortable, and inviting. The music was great. Even though we live in the San Fernando Valley, I would absolutely make a special trip just to eat here again. And anytime I'm in the area, this will definitely be my go-to spot--even if it's just to grab some wings to go. Y'all deserve more than five stars. I've been here a few times before, mainly for the sides, but after this experience I honestly don't know if I'll return. I ordered a lunch chicken plate and was never told it would take over 40 minutes. Had I known, I either wouldn't have ordered or would have asked for a refund much sooner. Meanwhile, customer after customer who ordered after me received their food before I did. When I finally got my order, there was no apology or acknowledgment of the delay. I asked if there was anything they could do for the inconvenience, and the only thing offered was a free slushy. I don't even drink soda. A side dish or something more thoughtful would have made more sense. To make matters worse, when I got home, the chicken portion was very small and the two sides were tiny about the size of dressing cups. It's disappointing because I actually do like their flavors, but good food only goes so far when the customer service experience is this poor.

I wrestled with writing this review precisely because it's Black-owned, but the experience spoke for itself. Ambience and service were positives: a warm greeting from Lonnel, sweet waitress, and a friendly bartender. However, beef was unavailable on the day despite Friday/Saturday promises, and the food failed to justify the price. A friend's fried chicken arrived raw--we know what cooked fried chicken should taste and look like, having eaten fried chicken plenty of times. The chef dismissed the concern and offered only a $5 discount, eroding trust in safety and quality. Overall, none of the dishes hit the mark. The hospitality was the bright spot; otherwise, the experience did not reflect the concept or value. I wouldn't return, but hope for improved consistency and safety.
