A Rhode Island exclusive: Allie's Donut Cakes We order donut cakes to celebrate family vacationing together on our annual visit to Narragansett. Our five yr old granddaughter selected the Mermaid. It was beautiful. White frosting and lots of colorful Jimmies. Our four year old grandson selected a Garbage Truck. It had chocolate frosting and green jimmies. He squealed with delight when he saw it. We also got an American flag to celebrate July 4. In the past, we have enjoyed a Lobster, a Crab, a Beach Pail, and a Beach Umbrella plus wedding themed donut cakes for our daughter's wedding eight years ago. The donut cakes were exceptional again this year-- moist and pillowy and raised donut like. Incredible eating experience! Decadent!

Allie's donuts are the best! Don't forget they are cash only! Staff is always super nice even when they are slammed. Shop is small but it serves the purpose of dishing out delicious donuts which is all that matters!

On a rainy day there was no line at about 0830. The staff were all super nice. It is CASH ONLY so don't forget your cash! The maple frosted had a nice flavor but could have been stronger. The actual donut was tasty. It was soft with a nice crisp on the outside. Not the best I've ever had but pretty decent. The sugar raised had a great flavor and a nice rise. I've had better but not recently. I'd love to try the donut cake next!

Day old donuts, prepackaged, by the exit. Several varieties.

This is a very nice donut. We tried the boston creme, because they are delicious, and a plain, to dip in my coffee. The Boston creme has a nice texture to the yeast donut. The chocolate on top is a light, milk chocolate type frosting. The custard cream has a nice level of sweetness. Not too sweet. The plain has a crispy fried outside and a dense cake inside. It held up very well to being dipped into my coffee. That coffee/donut combination flavor and texture is just right. Enter at the door at the corner of the building and wait in line. If the line is to the door, wait outside with the door closed until there is room to move inside. Once at the head of the line, wait to be called to the counter. No public facilities. No eating-in. Yesterdays donuts are bagged up and put on shelves by the exit. Would make more sense to put them along side the waiting line so customers can pick out what they want before approaching the order counter. Maybe use those shelves to direct the waiting line instead of the rope currently in use. A good sized parking lot designates the area next to the building for customers to wait in line. Pretty easy in/out of the lot with several exits onto Quaker Lane. This is a "Cash Only" business.

Every donut I've had from here has been great. I'm particularly partial to the maple flavors (the old fashioned is lovely) but the Boston crème is excellent too. Be warned: going any later than 11am dooms you to either very few donuts available or none at all. You have to get there early if you want variety. They're also cash only, which I seem to forget. Slowly becoming my staple donut place!

Allie's Donuts is a traditional RI staple! They have been around for a while. Aside from a variety of donuts they also have array of Donut Cakes and basic coffee. The donuts are light, soft, and fluffy There is always a line and it usually goes outside the door since the building is small. If going in colder weather definitely dress warm. I usually visit during the summer months so it's not a big deal waiting outside. The building can use a more modern remodel but it gets the job done in the meantime. I would suggest to put in a custom order if getting a big order. Make sure to bring cash - as this is a cash only establishment !

I went to a retirement party yesterday that was serving donut cake for dessert & OMG I can't stop thinking about how delicious they were!! I am definitely going to have to take a ride to Allie's in Rhode Island & get some of their other donuts to try as well. Great taste, frosting & the sprinkles & shapes that they are able to make for donut cakes are amazing!! The 5th cake was already gone by the time I got a piece but I am quite sure it was probably a volleyball cake!!

ORIGIN: Frederick "Allie" Briggs opened the donut shop in 1968. At the time he was a dairy farmer who had been supplementing income to support his wife and seven children by working additional hours in a local donut shop. He envisioned a better way to make donuts, something his employer was not willing to support. His effort became a very successful family enterprise, and Allie's Donuts is currently owned by his eldest daughter, Anne, and her husband, Bud Drescher. LOCATION: The donut shop remains on the original road, a main thoroughfare (route 2) in North Kingston with ample parking. The shop's parking lot is often full, as customers quickly stop to pick up Allie's legendary donuts, or unique custom donut-based cakes. EXPERIENCE: While you you can always expect to buy donuts until the shop closes at 2 PM, part of the surprise and draw to quickly get in line is the ever-changing availability of different donut flavors and styles. The hand-cut raised donuts may be filled and covered with glaze, frosting, powdered sugar, and granulated sugar, but cake-like donuts are offered as well. Some favorites of mine include maple glazed raised and the raspberry-filled granulated sugar covered donut. Coffee (iced and hot) and hot chocolate are available for those on the go, or who can't wait to enjoy the donuts at their intended destination! TIPS: The shop has two lines, one for custom donut cake pick up, the other for donuts and coffee. The interior is narrow and "no frills", designed for baking and pick up and go orders. The shop is cash only and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, otherwise open 6 AM to 2 PM. Shop employees will patiently identify donut types, but it is helpful to review the list of all possible types in advance as shelves are not typically labeled. This list (attached) is located near cash register. The shop might be considered a reasonable and worthy short side excursion for Foodie I-95 travelers.

There was a roach in the box with our food. TERRIBLE. Service was good and we get money back but ambiance is awful because of the roach.

Allie's Donuts are great place to get donuts if you are in North Kingstown or nearby. The best part of their place is that they have day old donuts if you come early enough. We didn't come early so we just got half dozen donuts. I think their donuts are good but I am not sure if it out of the ordinary. I was actually surprised because it seemed a bit pricier than some donut places in San Francisco. But everyone is nice and quick with your orders. There are no places to sit and it is usually just order and leave place. They also only accept cash.

Loved this no frills cash only donut shop! Counter style ordering which stressed me out because the options weren't labeled and I wanted everything. None the less we walked away so full and happy! Glazed original donuts took our top spot and the maple donuts were a close second place. I would definitely recommend for a local sweet treat!

Start the day right with some donuts from Allie's!

Great donuts. Nice people. What else do you need? Easy in. Easy out. Cash only. Go with the classics: chocolate glazed, glazed cruller, cinnamon topped old fashion. Solid.

Ask the Community - Allie's Donuts

    Any dairy free donuts?

All their donuts have dairy, no vegan options

Have they reopened yet since they closed in April bc of covid?

Not yet....you can follow them on social media for updates though-

    Do they take card?

    Cash only!

About how much money do their donut cakes cost?

It depends on what size you want. Call them and they will give you the cost per size.

Looking to order a donut cake, unfortunately it's last minute would they be able to do it if I order it 3 days before?

They open very early so call immediately and ask!! It may depend on how many orders they have for cakes. . Again, I would call them ASAP to get your name in. They will tall you if they cant do it.

Are the different flavors and types of Allie's donuts listed ANYWHERE? It is so stressful to make my choices under pressure when it is finally your turn to pick. Somebody please help me.

I am most familiar with the cakes made by Allie's. Also, I know they make creme filled donuts and have different flavored frostings.

Do they have cream filling? Not Bavarian cream, the fluffy icing like cream.

I haven't seen any donuts here with that kind of filling. The Boston cream donut has a typical Boston cream filling. But: their vanilla-frosted donuts are topped with a fluffy, icing-like frosting!

I'm looking to have 200 donuts for my wedding. Any info about this? If it's possible, prices, etc

They will definitely help you. They made my engagement party cake.

My partner and I grabbed seats at the bar and immediately felt like regulars thanks to Kelsi. She was so friendly, knew so many people by name, and somehow kept everyone's coffee topped off like a pro. Truly unlimited hot coffee, which is appreciated. The whole place was decked out for St. Patrick's Day and it added such a festive, welcoming vibe. I also loved hearing that they switch up seasonal menu items every few weeks. The staff really leans into it, which makes it feel fresh and fun every time you visit. I ordered a gluten free Johnnycake topped with poached eggs, sausage, and hollandaise, plus home fries. Everything was spot on. Great portions, great flavor, and honestly no need to reach for salt, pepper, or ketchup which says a lot. We both ended up taking leftovers because we were so full. Bonus points for Kelsi sending me out with a to-go cup for my salted caramel iced coffee. Little touches like that go a long way. Also, fun fact, they offer a discount if you pay cash. Already looking forward to going back. Thank you!
