The front counter staff are good, well-meaning people. The mechanics, unfortunately are sub par, and that is putting it nicely. Twice I've had my truck there for over heating issues and both times required a return visit, once via tow truck, to fix what a mechanic failed to do correctly. I thought something was going on with my power steering and also needed a dome light replaced. David was very helpful in getting me and appointment set up on a day that worked for me. He told me that I could either drop it off the night before or first thing in the morning. I used their overnight drop so I wouldn't have to get up as early to run over there. The day of my appointment Pat gave me a call and let me know they had thoroughly inspected my car and took it for a drive and didn't find anything wrong with the steering and they replaced my dome light. I was only charged for the dome light and no charge for them looking into the other concerns. I would've understood a fee for that so it was a really nice surprise. Driving from NY to Florida my Kia SUV started pulling to the left. We called CarMax and were told that Allen Tire is an affiliate. Great service from Allen tire. Needed tires on our Jeep to move to Oregon. Allen tire was able to get tires faster than the other shops, for a comparable price. Was able to find and fix 2 major safety issues and was able to advise us in what services we needed so that we saved money. Allen tire was a life saver for us, feels like a mechanic you can trust. Nail in the tire, 1:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday. Other shops couldn't get the tire until Monday. We were going out of town on Monday, so NOT an option. Allen Tire stepped up, had the tire and had us running before they closed. (Did I mention they close at 3pm on a Saturday, and we walked in at 1:30?) True story. Took car to repair shop #1 in Moseley for car door repair. Door turned out fine but repair shop gave me a list of $2500 in repairs that were "needed" so I took car to repair shop #2 further down Hull. Their assessment listed NONE of the repairs from repair shop #1, however listed over $2k in OTHER repairs, and was told my car was in "dire need" of some repair and would not pass inspection. Finally, took car to Allen Tire and was told that 95% of what both repair shops identified as dire or very much needed were completely fine and even fixed an item that one of the other repair shops quoted me $350 to do. It's so hard to find a trustworthy shop these days and I'm so glad we found this place and didn't just rely on the first two repair shop's opinions. I came in to get my truck inspected and I was told the truck would be ready at noon. When I got there they had not started working on it. They charged me 400 dollars to change the emergency brake pads. I should have not come here but I learned my lesson I wont be back for anything. I feel like they only took advantage of the fact I needed my inspection done. Dont bring your car here because they are too high and they dont value your time. read more

My husband Glenn and I have been coming to Allen Tire for most of the 25 years we've lived here in Richmond to get all our work done on our cars. They have never let us down. We trust them. Their prices are fair. Whenever we've had a flat tire they've patched the leak for free. I just got 4 more new tires for my Accord there yesterday. I begin by saying I do not work for Allen Tire and did not receive any financial compensation from them for writing this review. My 2006 Mustang GT had the dreaded check engine light go on. Allen Tire noted that I had a leak, and water had gotten behind the dashboard. They suspected this was related to the check engine light problem. They said I should bring the car to the Ford Dealership to find the leak source, and fix the check engine light. The Ford Dealership found and repaired the leak, and to fix the check engine light they replaced the Body Control Module and spark plugs. When I picked up the car from the dealership the check engine light was still on. I said to the dealership you did not fix the problem. They said my problem was in the wiring harness and to find which particular wire was shorting would cost me a lot of money. I was frustrated and brought my car back to Allen Tire and told them what the Ford Dealership had said. Mr. Gary Allen took my car to one of his best mechanics and this mechanic figured out that my problem was not in the wiring, but was a bad PCM. To save me money Allen Tire found a refirbrished PCM. They also took my old "Engine Tune" off the old PCM, and transferred it to my hand held "SCT" device, and then reloaded it to my new PCM. Allen Tire went above and beyond the call. They diagnosed my problem when the Ford Dealership could not. Allen Tire also saved me money by searching out and finding a refirbrished PCM (which is half the cost of a new one). My car runs like a charm and the dreaded red check engine light no longer is a problem. If you want your problem correctly diagnosed, and fixed at a reasonable price, my advice is to go to Allen Tire. read more

Had a terrible experience here. My wife took her vehicle for a flat repair and dealt with Billy. When he found out that it was covered under a third party warranty claim, he told her that the paperwork wasn't worth the effort. I went inside to speak with him and Billy was on the phone. When he got off the phone he was smiling at me and being disrespectful. When Billy called me a name that I can't repeat here, I asked for the number to the corporate office. He scribbled a number on a card and and said, "You can call this number, but good luck, it's my dad". So I called the number and spoke to someone named Kay, who was also extremely rude. Her comment to me was, "I'm also an Allen". Gary Allen actually did call me back later in the day, but as expected he told me that Billy said I was rude first and that it was my fault. He was very dismissive of my concerns and never even offered an apology. Under no circumstances should you do business with Allen Tire. read more
