Cinnamon Roll
Jeremy B.

2/28/2026 Ate list: Cinnamon Roll - 9.1 Lives up to the hype. One of the best I've ever had in town.

Eimy B.

It was my first time here and staff was extremely friendly & welcoming. They immediately offered me a menu. Once I was ready to order, another staff member assisted me. Location was clean. They also offer online orders so you can order ahead and not wait in their long line.

Take-out only vegan bakery, but wow, it doesn't matter if you're vegan or not, everything here is just so yummy! The pastries are so pretty and constantly changing it up. But, the sandwiches, esp the seitan melt, were so delicious. The flavors, the pairings, and of course, their bread is top tier! One of my favorite spots in Squirrel Hill, worth waiting in line for, do not miss out!

Allegro Hearth Bakery sits on Murray Avenue, one of the main business places for Squirrel Hill Residents. When I lived here I hadn't gone to this place but decided to check it out now that I was a tourist. It was a good option as my wife is vegan. We had the seitan bacon melt sandwich with the oat cheese. Took about 15 minutes, so we ended up dumpster diving for records at Jerry's doing that time. I would say the sandwich was really filling and seitan well seasoned and juicy. There is fresh bread available to purchase and, it's a nice corner spot. It's a more pick up and go place. But, it was such a nice day that we ate outside. I would give 4.5 stars, but round it to 5. For vegetarians/vegans- definitely a place to check out. I think it's worth it. We didn't get bread so can't comment on that part. For fresh bread, I usually would go to 5 Points in Point Breeze.

Oh, I so wish to have them where I live! Such an amazing vegan bakery! I didn't had a chance to try any of their sandwiches, or breads as we were traveling, but got other pastries. The cruffin was huge and delicious, crunchy and sweet from the cinnamon sugar. Apple galette perfectly baked and the pistachio tahini cookie the best cookie I've had. Even if you're not vegan or plant based, I highly recommend to give them a try.

This is a hidden gem in squrriel hill. This is a grab-n-go bakery with no seating or tables inside. Once you walk in, you are greeted with the sweet smell of pastries and breed. We tried their seasonal hot crossed buns and rugelach. I was not a big fan of the pastries that I got since they were a bit spice heavy but that's just according to my taste. However, I would've love to try their other pastries. Their seitan melt was amazing and so well flavored but I wish their bread was a bit more toasted. I would definitely want to come back to try other pastries and sandwiches.

Such a cute bakery with so many amazing baked good options! Which made it hard to choose. I came here because I heard they had the best cinnamon - I can confirm, it was amazing! Not like your normal cinnamon roll, it was flakey like a croissant with the perfect combination of cinnamon & icing. 10/10 recommend! Also tried the blueberry danish, it was good. Not very sweet which was okay, but could have used an icing drizzle or something to make it better. The staff had great recommendations, I so wish I could have tried many more options!

What a cute little vegan spot in town! Love their crispy croissants that I can't believe are vegan! They don't use butter so it actually doesn't feel as heavy as a regular croissant. Their baguettes look really cute and delicious too. The sandwiches were really good. Love that they serve redstart coffee here. Staff were nice but I wish there was some seating in here!

This bakery has some of the best breads and sweet treats. Everything is vegan, Service is a bit slow as you would have to line up and wait but it's worth it. I have tried their multigrain sourdough and cookies and some other stuff. everything is on point. It's a small shop though with compact space And waiting can be challenging sometimes in cold.

We came in as we had heard great things about the bakery. Happy that sandwiches were still left when we arrived. Staff was friendly and the space is what I would expect of a local bakery. Ordering was easy and the sandwiches came out fast. We split a mushroom melt and seitan sandwich. Both were amazing.

Seitan steak sandwich
Jackie M.

Ordered pick up from this location. We ordered the seitan steak sandwich and the tofu sandwich. The seitan sandwich was a little too tomatoey for me. I really liked the freshness of the tofu sandwich. Both sandwiches used sourdough bread, the bread was soft and fresh. If I would come back I would get the tofu sandwich again. Pick up was easy, I was albe to find parking right out front. There were a few people waiting when I got inside, but they were really quick.

Cinnamon cruffin
Ulyana K.

Lovely little plant based bakery, and they even have some savory items, like sandwiches. They also have gluten free items, and baked goods that meet a lot of different dietary restrictions. I got to try their chocolate chip cookie and cinnamon cruffin. They were both quite good. The cruffin was more flakey and a bit less buttery than usual. You could just ever so slightly tell it's plant based. Soft on the inside and has a nice crunch on the outside. A nice coating of sugar, and not bad. Reasonable price and portion. The chocolate chip cookie was good as well. Very large portion for the price! Tasty, rich chocolate that's not too sweet. A nice saltiness on top. Pretty good. All in all, this is a very nice bakery, especially for those with specific restrictions. I enjoyed both the cruffin and the cookie.

Breakfast sandwich and Seitan Melt Amazing

AMAZING everything. Hearty sandwiches (no skimping here), fresh delicious bread, bomb cookies, and a great selection of grab and go with the best vegan cheeses I've ever had and that mushroom walnut dip???? Heavenly. Everything I've tried here became my favorite of its kind and all vegan! Pls never change. PS. PLS PLS PLS START OFFERING ALL THE GRAB AND GO ITEMS ON THE UBER EATS MENU. I so badly want to add the cheeses and mushroom dip to my order, but only the hummus is available to add there

This isn't the case at Apteka, where everything is homemade and plant based. Despite the love and care that is put into each dish, the prices remain low (your entire meal will be less than the cost of a single steak at a traditional restaurant). The ambiance is a bit chaotic, so I recommend outdoor seating if possible. They don't take reservations, so you will have to wait unless you show up well in advance of opening. All of this is worth it! Everything is good here, but the ice cream we had on our last visit was exceptional. I was so full, but I would have eaten a second scoop. If ice cream is on the menu, get it. They use a dense cashew cream, which is imo the best base for vegan ice cream. I wish they would open up in DC, but this is the type of place that can only exist somewhere like Pittsburgh. If you are in the area, run there!

The wine went so well with the food; I think it was all Eastern European wines, since what grows together goes together.

My date ordered the Buffalo Cauliflower, and it was definitely hot, but good. For dinner, I ordered the Black Bean Bowl, which was a rice bowl packed with black beans, grilled veggies, and corn with a cream sauce, but that is not quite what I got. It was rice and beans, mixed, corn with no cream sauce, broccoli, and two plantains. The rice was not too savory, the broccoli was a bit bland and there was no cream sauce on the corn....sad face. Probably one of the quirkiest places in South Pittsburgh - fronted by a thrift and curiosity shop - it's rather easy to miss given the off-the-beaten path location. Anyhow, we had an excellent experience. The brunch had several options - we opted for the seitan "pot roast" and the mushroom pasta. Both were great - ample portions and flavorful. The salad buffet was great, offering a bunch of options, all of which were pretty tasty. I didn't try the dessert section, but it was also pretty large. Overall, possibly the fairest deal on a meal you can get in the greater Pittsburgh region, while still keeping things healthy. Tables are arranged where it's communal, so you end up meeting other folks in a close environment. The walls are adorned with all kinds of artwork, there's no shortage of things to look at. Lastly, I saw some people on a certain social media platform had some critiques of the menu development method - it's all a bad opinion, this is a legacy business in our city and deserves even more of the positive attention they currently get.....support this place!

The layout is wonderfully chaotic; half of it is a restaurant and the other half is a packed antique shop and vintage clothing store. The service matches the aesthetic...it's laid-back, totally unpretentious, and run by folks who just let you do your thing. But let's talk about the food, because it's some of the best vegetarian and vegan comfort food you will ever eat, hands down. I always crave their Seitan Reuben (and I'm not even vegan), which is so perfectly savory and messy, and if you go for their famous Sunday brunch, you have to load up on the sesame peanut noodle salad and grab a slice of whatever vegan cake they have out that day. It's affordable, incredibly quirky, and I'll keep coming back forever.

Mission: Bruno Mars' The Romantic Tour First time in PA, and we're already finding gems! We were in town for Bruno Mars' The Romantic Tour as part of my birthday month celebration, and bae came through with a restaurant find close to our hotel. You know I appreciate a good discovery, especially when I don't have to travel far to get there! Now, let's talk about this food. A Taste of the REAL Culture The menu was MASSIVE, with plenty of options to choose from. There's seating inside and outside near the parking garage, so don't let the surrounding area fool you. We decided to sit outside, catch some sunshine, and let our piping-hot food cool off a little. And when I tell you this food was GOOD?! This was authentic Venezuelan food, not some watered-down, Anglo-friendly interpretation of the cuisine. The flavors were there, the food was hot, and everything we ordered hit the spot. Here's what made it to our table: Vegan Chorizo Empanada - $8 A hearty, hand-sized empanada that made for a satisfying bite. Vegetarian Pabellón Empanada - $8 Another generously sized empanada that delivered on flavor and left me satisfied. Arepa Perico - $13 Bae's choice, and apparently, a good one because he made QUICK work of that meal! Tostones with Cheese - $12 THE ACE OF THE MEAL! Listen, these were soooo good! The crispy plantains with cheese were the standout for me. If you're ordering, put these on your list. Jarritos - $4 Maltín Polar, Large - $5 The food arrived piping hot, the portions were satisfying, and the flavors reminded me why I enjoy exploring cuisines in their authentic form. No need to dress it up or change it to appeal to everybody. Just make the food GOOD. YE Gurl Insight Isn't it funny how some of the best food finds are tucked away on a side street in a seemingly dead part of downtown? You might drive through an area and think there's nothing happening, only to discover a restaurant serving food that makes you want to come back tomorrow. Sometimes the gems aren't on the main drag. They're hiding around the corner. And that's why I love traveling with somebody who enjoys finding those places. Bae found this one, and he did GOOD! Final Take For my first visit to Pennsylvania, this was a delicious little discovery near our hotel. The extensive menu, indoor and outdoor seating, generous empanadas, and freshly prepared food made this a worthwhile stop during our Bruno Mars birthday getaway. YE Gurl Says: Don't judge a restaurant by the parking garage next door or the lack of foot traffic outside. Sometimes the best meals are waiting on the side streets.

I wouldn't really call this a supper club to be honest but the place definitely carries a house music bar vibe and the back bar area and seating is very dimly lit, perfect for cozying up and enjoying a drink late night. The ladies' room was so dark, I mistook it for a storage area because I could only make out a white ladder in the corner that was being used as cute shelving. The place is seat yourself. Our waiter was not super friendly and didn't offer to give us napkins or anything when our wobbly table caused our drinks to splash all over the place. The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.

So, actually a guy at the information booth was eating something from here and I asked him where he got it from because it looked very good and he recommended them to me. So we headed their way. Tbh: Every place that we wanted to eat at had a line 25-50 deep and we were super hungry and their line was only like 5-7 people deep which was a blessing. First off, the service in general was kind of crappy, but I understand as it was a hot and very busy day and from what they told my gf at the time they were getting low on food as well and only had a couple items that were left from the menu. After deciding what we wanted which was one of three things my gf at the time ordered us the Mac and Cheese and a container of ranch to take home while I looked for a place for us to eat. So after they handed her our food we headed over to an area with tables and chairs to eat the Mac and Cheese. I must say we both thoroughly enjoyed every single bit of it and my gf at the time isn't even vegan. So that says a lot! I highly recommended it :) FYI: The person who took her order also forgot to give her the container of ranch she paid for. I wasn't made aware that she purchased it until afterwards because my gf at the time wanted to surprise me but they didn't give her a receipt so she had no proof. Oh well, you live and learn, sadly! The vibe on this day was on point so we let the little things go in regards to the crappy service and the shorting us of an overpriced container of ranch fall to the wayside and continued on with our wonderful day, smiling and enjoying the amazing festival and area. If I decide to stop by your food trailer again this year at the festival or whenever I am somewhere you are posted up in front of, I hope you make up for your mistakes from last year because that's the right thing to do.
