They told us they were very busy, so if we needed it in 2 weeks, all they could do for alterations was hem the pants. We found a jacket we liked, and the pants were either a bit tight (he could sit and bend in them) or too big. I thought that since all the could do was hem, a bit tight was better. The lady raised her voice at me and said that if I bought the smaller pants I was going to be responsible because they do not fit right. I reminded her that she said all they could do was hem. She said, "well, clearly that is not going to be enough and we'll have to do more", but in a tone that was not helpful or pleasant but condescending and rude. They adjusted the pants all around, and proceeded to hem them too short. Because they are short they catch inside the shoe and look crooked. They charged me to alter the jacket too, though frankly it looks the same to me than when we tried it. He tried on a shirt that the sales lady selected fir him. It was huge, so we asked for another one. She found another one and assured us that it would fit perfectly and we did not need to try it because to fold a shirt back into its original package takes a long time. Like it was us that selected the size and caused her to have a shirt that needed to be folded. The tie we bought was very short and it did not occur to me that I had to make him try on the tie before buying it. Because it was so short I had to put a safety pin in the back so the back wouldn't come out from under the top. And no, this is not a very tall kid -a normal tie should have been enough. Last, the amount of spam they emailed me the first week prompted me to get off their list. Why would a chain like this think we want to hear from them 3 or 4 times a week? It's a shame because the suits are nice for the price.

Just less than an inch was recommended. We said we needed the suit on Sept. 17 for the funeral on the 18th. They assured us it would be available. When we went in to pick up the suit they said it wouldn't be ready until the 18th and that is was in Iowa and wouldn't be in until the next day. Do they really send a suit to Iowa for a small alteration! I was furious. The saleswoman said she'd look for another suit in my husband's size. She found one. She said it was an even exchange but I had paid $35 for alterations and asked for that refund. She gave it to me. We went home, my husband tried it on and it was the original suit! The chalk markings and pins were at the wrists! No honesty! No apology! Will not return.

Here is my issue: my kid is 3. We are also not rich. I have no idea whether or not she will want to keep dancing after a year of it (or whether we will want her to). A store credit would be fine for committed dancers who go there on a regular basis. However, the $40 credit we now have is at a store we will likely not patronize again (especially now that I can get the same items for half as much at Discount Dance Supply) and could have been better used to help pay for a household bill. And unless I come in and use my credit, they will get twice as much for the things I returned (since I've already paid for them once). Shady. This is a disappointingly bad policy. Maybe come here for shoe fittings but honestly, I would recommend going to discountdance.com for what you need, especially for beginners. The prices and selection are much better and returns are allowed.

I had struck out at just about every high-end department store you can think of, and couldn't even find a decent to try on anywhere I had gone. Gipper Prom has a large selection, with most inventory displayed on mannequins instead of just on hangers. There's no lugging around 10lb dresses, you just write the style number and color up on a slip they give you when you first walk in, and when you're done, they bring it to your dressing room. And it IS a room, with a locking door, so no worrying about that big dress leaving you exposed as you turn around. They had several associates at the dressing room, ready to help zip, clasp or adjust when needed, and they make sure the walkway is clear for you to move about. Since most people do not go dress shopping alone, they thoughtfully have ample seating and complimentary water for the poor soul you may have dragged along with you. Seating is arranged several feet behind a wall lined with mirrors, each section accompanied by a platform and appropriate lighting. The platform is likely useful for any tailoring needed, but I just used it to make my significant other nervously rate me in each of the 10 or so dresses I tried on. The staff didn't pressure you to buy, nor did anyone look at my long list of dresses like I was wasting their time or making their life terrible for no reason. The people working were friendly, and the other customers and their guests were also all cheery. Dress shopping can be a nightmare - hot, cramped, nothing fitting the way you hope, sizing not available, etc. But not the case here - and the other women shopping seemed to feel the same as me. Customers were openly complimenting each other, and the entire atmosphere was very warm. I can't rate their ability to modify or make minor fixes to beading, etc. The dress I purchased was perfect without anything needed. Overall, I was more than impressed. If you're an adult, well - clearly we aren't going to the prom, but this is a great store for many other events including pageants, galas, black tie or formal parties, or any time you can get away with being a little "extra," or are in need of a good selection of floor-length, high-quality formalwear. I will definitely be coming back!
