I had holes in my walls where there didn't need to be, tiles that his tiler couldn't figure out how to center on the wall....MY personal favorite was when one of his guys installed the medicine cabinet with a faucet that blocked it from opening. Rather than point that out - the guy kept installing it - pointing to it (he doesn't speak English!) and laughing! The T11 on the outside of the house got installed at 7 pm on a friday night because I casually asked if they could put up plastic or something, it was December! And it was the WRONG SIZE!~ A few months after I kicked him out and said ENOUGH an electrician went to move a switch location and discovered ALL the can lights needed replaced because they weren't attached - just propped into the ceiling...($$KaChing$$). Then we discovered the toilet leaked...when that got pulled up we discovered water up under the tile, to chip that up we discovered the wiring for the heated flooring installed right to the edge - and it got broken - the WHOLE less than one year old marble floor had to come out and be replaced. ($$$KaChing$$$). AND, he left a broken ceiling heater behind we had to pay to dump. My contractor friend offered to be a go between with him to get resolution going and got nothing but drug along when he realized he needed to pay for the damages. After 2 months of blow off I filed small claims and won a judgement. I turned it into the insurance company and he won't authorize it. Moving on to lien on his house and business.

Terrible Experience -- Avoid This Contractor…read more If you're thinking about hiring Edgar, don't. My bathroom tile project turned into a complete nightmare. He promised to start with the floor but left one guy all day who tiled the wall instead -- completely wrong. The waterproofing was skipped, and the shower floor had to be dug up and redone. Worse, this person wasn't even on Edgar's regular crew -- he just found someone to fill in because he didn't have enough help. Edgar never checked the work and didn't realize the guy even brought his girlfriend along to "keep him company." The job was sloppy, unorganized, and ended up costing me more time and money. We recently set out on a journey like no other as we decided to bite the preverbal bullet and get…read moreour old cedar-shake roof replaced this year before material prices rocket toward the stratosphere even further.  After researching top subcontractors, and reading the horror stories of folks getting scammed by ethically challenged folks, we ended up getting bids from numerous subcontractors and after much sticker-shock therapy we began our earnest best-value review of each proposal.  One of the things that set Columbia Roofing (CR) apart, for us at least, was the fact that Daniel took the time to describe the process that would be used, including the materials to be used and how they all worked together to protect the house.  After some back and forth on the contract language, we opted to go forward with CR and we are very glad we did.  Day one of the shake tear-down I was chatting with the help and met two brothers who are part of the CR crew.  In short order I picked up on the fact that they were amazing guys with an outstanding work ethic, and no fear.  When I asked them about the time involved in getting the job completed, they let me know that it would take some time as "it's a big roof and extremely steep."  Tear-down took only a few days and they had the new synthetic underlayment and ice barrier up there almost immediately to ensure protection against a random rainstorm.  The crew then got significantly smaller as it was either 2 or 3 guys working weekdays and Saturdays to get the job complete.  They stood on small areas of roof that made me sick just to watch them, but they were properly secured to the roof and the brothers told me that they had been doing this for almost 2-decades.  Additionally, we did ask them to help some out-of-scope manual labor (move a hot tub about 20') and they were more than willing to assist, which again simply points to the nature of these guys and the firm they work for.  For our project, Columbia Roofing was absolutely top-shelf and as such they have my endorsement and recommendation.  They did an awesome job for us!

The ridge vent, which was not needed, was cut free-hand rather than striking a line to follow, consequently the opening was cut too wide in places, which meant the staples on some of the capping pieces didn't have anything but air to go into and so some didn't form to the roofline. On the bright side, when I called Palmers about this, it was immediately addressed with adhesive between the caps, but this shouldn't have been necessary, and the staples are still in nothing but air. Also, the crew removed some facia pieces and didn't replace them - I did. So, from my experience, I would say that Palmers is a good contractor but should train their crews better - just because something is out of sight doesn't mean it's not important to do a good and correct job.
