Responsive, thorough, punctual, and affordable. They did a great job with our mulch beds and hedge cleanup. Recommend.

I came here to write about how far this company has fallen in quality and have found a lot of…read morereviews saying the same thing. It's sad really. Ultimately, ACA was once considered the best bang-for-your-buck yard-work service that you paid a little more for than the budget priced guys but got really quality work. Over the last few years, they've increased their prices exponentially and decreased their quality. I recognize the prices of things have gone up in recent years but there's no excuse for the terrible service. I scheduled them for a (over-priced) yard clean-up with 5 yards of mulch. Their office location repeatedly rescheduled it without informing us and I had to hound them to get answers about the availability. Eventually, the person I was speaking with even admitted they had no clue when they'd come out. Terrible communication / management that impacted what day my wife would go into the office that week. The actual work done was sub-par as well. Three folks showed up and made a really poor effort to remove weeds, leaving a ton behind, and then sloppily threw mulch on top of them, scattering it all over my yard as well. What a pain the next time a mowed the lawn! They tore out three completely healthy rosemary bushes that I used on a regular basis and completely mangled a rose bush that was a gift from my wife's grandfather before he passed away. The edging was poor and sloppy and they didn't ask anything of us. Ultimately, they got the job done and they did it on a short timeline because of rain last week having pushed the date and that's the primary reason why they got 2 stars instead of 1; but I don't know that I'll ever use them again.

Very disappointing experience, especially given their high rating…read more We signed an agreement with Blue Collar Scholars at the end of June for a new front and back fence and paid several thousand dollars toward the project. We understood that permitting could take time, particularly because our home is in a historic district, and our contract did not guarantee a completion date. My issue is not that the permit has taken time, it is how little they seem to have done during the time they could control. Before hiring them, my wife had already attempted to submit the permit application herself. It took her about two hours to put everything together, and the application was returned because an architectural drawing was required. We gave Blue Collar Scholars all of the paperwork from that attempt when we signed, so they knew exactly what was needed. Yet throughout July, we were repeatedly told they were "gathering documents" and "finalizing" the application. The architect they work with didn't come out to take measurements until August. Since coordinating their architect is within the contractor's control, we cannot understand why this wasn't done in July while they were supposedly "preparing" the permit application. It is now September 29, more than three months after signing and paying the deposit, and we have no fence and no approved permit. We've now been told there were comments on the application and that installation will take another 3-4 weeks AFTER the permit is approved. I don't blame them for DC permitting delays or historic-district requirements. I do blame them for failing to use the time efficiently and for providing vague, noncommittal updates instead of clearly communicating what was actually happening. After more than three months and several thousand dollars paid toward the project, having no fence and no approved permit is an extremely frustrating experience. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Blue Collar Scholars.

We were looking for a quick and affordable option for the garden of our Washington DC row house…read more It is a small space but it was overgrowing with weeds which really detracts from an otherwise good-looking place. I was fearful that places would either over think (and overcharge) for working on our small front yard or perhaps they would refuse to work on such a small space. I called Genesys and they were great for the job -- I spoke with Monica over the phone who came up with some suggestions and we arranged for her to stop by that same evening-- she came by with Marion and they offered some solutions. They did the job for $400 - I did not haggle but I did ask them to help with a few extra things in our backyard and Genesys obliged; in fact, there were some huge weeds that had grown into trees and a large pile of folded boxes that we wanted to get rid of. They even took some mint that was growing from a crack on the pavement in our backyard and replanted it into some planters that had been overgrown with weeds. Now our front and back yards look much cleaner and the plants require next-to-no maintenance which is just what we needed. I will try to include a before and after shot soon.

I strongly recommend Genesys Landscaping!
