I highly recommend Northern Virginia Grounds. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and very detail oriented, so there was a very high threshold, but Tony and his team did a fantastic job on our hardscape project and far exceeded my expectations. After much research and reading many reviews, I had 5 or 6 companies come out to discuss the project and get estimates. When I met Tony, he took the time to listen to all my thoughts and concerns, and he offered to bring me samples of different materials even before I agreed to go with his company. Tony did a great job with encouraging me to go with his company without being pushy. The estimate Tony gave me was fair, and after considering all of my options, I decided to go with him. Tony has been excellent with communication, and would respond to me almost immediately if I had any questions. He met with me multiple times before starting the project, he brought out samples, and he invited me to see other projects that he had completed or was still in the process of completing. I was originally only planning on replacing my front walkway, but I decided to trust Tony to fix up my entire back yard as well. I had a huge project because in addition to replacing all of my bricks with pavers, Tony said he could help with the drainage problem I had in my yard each time it rained. I would frequently have a small river flowing down my walkways and in the lower grassy parts of my yard. Tony's team put in a French drain to help the water exit our yard underground. They also attached underground pipes to our downspouts so the water wouldn't flow over our pavers. Tony used high-quality Techo-Bloc pavers so that the color would last, and he kept me in the loop each step of the way. I appreciated his crew's attention to detail to make sure everything was done just right. Some people will cut corners, but not Tony's team. They are very skilled, and did a quality job. They worked very hard each day (including some weekends), and they were always pleasant. Tony was at our house almost every day to ensure that everything was being done to his high standards, and he came out in the rain to make sure that the drainage pipes were working. That is truly going above and beyond. I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. Our backyard was in desperate need of repairs: previous owners put down indoor tiles on our patio, the retaining walls were slowly falling down, and the tiles on the pool were coming off... We weren't sure what we wanted so we consulted with a few construction companies that had some nice successful backyard projects shown on their websites. Most of the companies were unresponsive or initially responsive but didn't follow up in a timely manner and we got discouraged and almost gave up. Luckily, we reached out to NOVA Landscape Construction and they were enthusiastic, not afraid to suggest drastic changes, and responsive without being pushy. Tony and Brittany at NOVA LC came over to chat and understand what we were looking for, and we worked with them and their team to come up with a vision and plan for our backyard. Once we had the vision and plan, they priced things out. We were a bit nervous about spending so much money but they worked with us and we decided to go for it. NOVA LC immediately started demolishing our backyard and boy was that scary (and often a bit muddy especially with our dog running around out there). We were worried that NOVA LC would disappear at this point because we'd heard stories of construction companies doing that, but Tony and his team were around most days making progress where they could, preparing things for the moment any of the permits were approved. As soon as a permit was approved, they were off like a shot, pouring concrete, laying the tiles we picked out, and making our vision take shape. The project was a bit complex with lots of moving parts including a lower patio, an upper patio, a firepit, resurfacing the pool, adding a hot tub, adding an outdoor kitchen, landscaping, and outdoor media installation. Some of the details were modified as vision met reality, but Tony worked to make sure we were happy and was responsive to any of our concerns. The team was respectful of our yard and neighbors, keeping things relatively clean and organized and they were also great with our dog, who spent a lot of time supervising (and trying to steal their lunches). The final product turned out to be amazing as you can see from the pictures, especially in contrast to the initial state of our yard. I used NOVA Landscape Construction for a new patio install with a fire pit and hot tub. It wasn't a simple job because my property has quite a bit of grade and we also needed to dedicate a space to the jacuzzi (and all of its electrical work). I had two other estimates, while slightly cheaper, that didn't have plans for a concrete pad under the jacuzzi and didn't include retaining walls and lights. Tony also used quality materials that were thicker and higher-end than what the other guys were using. I realized quickly this was not as simple as slapping down some Home Depot pavers. I am so glad I went with Tony because that could have been a real nightmare as the ground settled with the grade we have and a heavy jacuzzi sitting on it. Tony also had a designer draw up the plan so I could see exactly what I'd be getting. We changed it a couple of times so it was really helpful to see it in 3D from different angles. Most importantly, I can't say enough great things about Tony's guys. We had the same two guys who showed up each day at 7:30am and worked the whole day in nearly 100 degree weather. I have had other contractors for other projects not show up on some days (I guess to squeeze in some smaller jobs) or take 2+ hour lunches where I didn't know if they were coming back. These guys got the job done quickly while paying meticulous attention to detail. They spent quite a bit of time cleaning up after themselves and hosing everything off. We had a couple of issues come up due to the formation of my deck and grading of the property and they made sure before they did anything they spoke with me about what I wanted which I really appreciated. It was a pleasure to work with Tony as he was always responsive to every question I asked. He came over multiple times to check on the project so I never got the feeling that he just took the money and ran while some guys I had never met or spoke to did all the work. Unfortunately, that is how a lot of these businesses work so that is why I wanted to take the time to write this review and give credit where credit is due. Tony is on top of everything, hires the right guys and treats them right, doesn't cut corners and uses quality products and knows his stuff and is super responsive. Highly recommend! read more

After contacting numerous landscaping/hardscaping/drainage companies I found Northern Virginia Grounds. Thank goodness! Tony and his workers were able to handle all of our concerns! Our initial request/concerns were regarding drainage issues and a new walk in our front yard. The job was going well so we immediately signed Tony on to address the drainage issues in our backyard. Along with adding/routing drainage to the appropriate areas we replaced a huge cement pad under our raised deck (which was a complete eyesore) and a crumbling brick retaining wall/brick facade to the cement pad, which was deteriorating as well. All the (failing and very old) hardscaping played into the drainage issues and we knew it needed to be addressed. Everything was looking great. We couldn't stop there, so we went back up to the front yard and redid the old brick stoop as well as removed old railroad ties and replaced those with stacked stone. Everything looks AMAZING!! We've had a few neighbors comment on the changes out front and how great it looks. Tony was always available during my project. He stopped by everyday to check the status of the job. And he didn't run off. He stayed and talked, explaining next steps, answering my questions, suggesting other options. I was always able to reach him with any concerns or questions. I really appreciated him calling after we had finished a drainage job and he saw rain. He wanted to know how the fix was working, to take photos, and a video so he could see. I really appreciated that concern and reaching out to me to suggest that!! I would definitely recommend Northern Virginia Grounds! In fact, if I get my way he'll be back to work on some overgrown beds. read more

I have been using Nova grounds since 2001 for 17 years now! They always do such a thorough job no matter how big or small the project is. Tony and his crew have done everything for us from regular Spring clean UPS to redesign our entire landscaping with new beds and all kinds up amazing plants, trees, shrubs and river rock beds. They installed an absolutely beautiful EP Henry paver patio with costum paver rounded steps going up to my back door. The steps had very nice bull nose tread and the risers were made out of Coventry Wall material. They did drainage work for us which helped with regular drainage, mosquitoes and Erosion. They happen to have a carpenter crew as well that did work inside and outside of our house and did great work As well. A few years later my wife and I decided to downsize our house. We list that our house and had Sold that weekend. The buyers were very happy with all the landscaping and hard scaping Which helped the sale of our house. Tony is very responsive and gives of the best customer service you could ever expect hands down. I have referred Tony and Nova grounds to many people and fellow officers over the years and every one of them have been very happy with all the work Tony has done for them as well. My husband's fortuitous encounter with owner/president Tony Drosos at local Greek eatery Plaka Grill (owned by Tony's brother Peter) led to the hiring of Northern Virginia Grounds for a landscaping/hardscaping project that has completely revitalized our Vienna home. From the removal of overgrown arborvitae trees that had obscured our house to the construction of a new walkway and porch to the planting of alluring greenery, everything was done promptly and professionally. The addition of river rock below the back deck has also been a magnificent enhancement to the yard.   Tony was a pleasure to work with as he addressed all our concerns throughout the project and provided useful recommendations. We especially appreciated his reliability and responsiveness to our inquiries. He even made extra post-completion trips to the house to monitor the progress of our new paper birch tree. We hired Tony to replace our lawn, which was a mess due to the underlying soil containing rocks and construction debris. He knew that a beautiful lawn would require a lot of effort to remove the debris, add new topsoil, and install the sod. Tony's guys worked in the sweltering heat of Summer to literally leave no stone unturned...unfortunately, the heatwave and lack of rain worked against us, and the grass initially wasn't doing well. Tony proactively communicated with us, and worked to make sure we got green grass in the end ("like a golf course", as he says. Northern VA Grounds also put a bunch of new shrubs and relocated existing bushes to the side of the house - they look great and add a nice splash of color. installed a stone retaining wall that matched our existing patio perfectly, with some nice flowers and plants in the back. When some of the flowers died due to the heat, Tony replaced them without hesitation. While our job had some complicating factors, I definitely recommend Tony if you want someone who will stay the course and not rest until you're satisfied. read more

We contracted Tony for work on a paver walkway from our driveway to our front porch and for the planting of a tree in our backyard. We couldn't be happier. We contacted Tony after a bad windstorm knocked down some trees and removed some privacy we had from neighbors. Tony came in and reviewed the yard and suggested several options that could fit our needs. He was very communicative via email and phone as we worked together to find the trees that would fit our need for privacy and style. Ultimately, we decided to go with as Willow and couldn't believe how low the price was for the tree and install. Similarly, Tony worked with us on the design of the walkway. He again suggested several styles and we ended up going with a herringbone pattern of red brick that fit our colonial style home perfectly. Tony's guys were quick with the install, but were thorough: they did it right. I had gotten 3 proposals from different companies but NOVA Grounds was the most affordable. I strongly recommend NOVA Grounds and will definitely use them in the future. read more

Nova LC did an amazing job! Tony, the owner, was on the job every day managing his crew and working with us to develop landscaping and hardscaping around our new pool. The end results exceeded our expectations. Under Tony's instruction, he and his crew spent weeks constructing our Travertine pool deck and surroundings with precision and care. Whenever a problem arose, Tony found creative and beautiful solutions. For example, when modifications were needed to coping around the back of our pool installed by the pool company, he spent days calling and traveling to vendors to locate hard to find stone to coordinate. He also proved to be very responsive. I don't remember a call or text that was not answered within the hour. He also began and completed our job within the time frame promised. Nova LC may not be the least inexpensive, but the good service, quality of materials, and excellent craftmanship will without a doubt save money on repairs and do-overs in the long run. read more

We were part way through the dig of our pool with another company when I met Tony, founder of Nova Landscape Construction. The dig was not going well, and the other pool company wanted to throw in the towel; telling me I should fill the hole back in and put the old patio back. Tony brought in his engineers and after countless hours of his personal time we had a plan to move forward and complete our pool, hardscaping, and landscaping. Tony personally oversaw my project and continually checked in on me to keep me apprised of the progress and ensure my satisfaction. The results speak for themselves; we could not be happier with the work Tony and his team did. He stops by every now and then to check on the progress of the landscaping and to make sure everything is still good. He even replaces any landscape bulbs he sees are out. I had a big event three weeks before we signed the contract but Tony and his team pull it through so I can have a decent patio for my son's first birthday party. I greatly appreciated for that. It has been a few months now and we are happy with the overall project. Tony came often to check on his men as most manager/owner didn't bother to come until the project is done. We had two different groups came to do our patio as one group did a better job than the other. I wasn't impressed with the second group of guys which finished up my patio. I give them a 4 stars because my grass was killed in the process of putting the patio in. Tony has offered to put the new seeds down but it wouldn't be the same. Suggestion for the company to put down the wooden board for the men to walk or put dirt on so the home owner's grass won't be damaged. We had an addition done to our house and our grass was in prefect condition after 4 months of renovation. read more

We are highly satisfied with the landscaping job that Tony @ Northern Virginia Grounds did for last month (May 2016). We had admired work he had done down the street in our neighborhood last spring, so we called him. He gave us a very reasonable estimate for all the work we wanted done, including transplanting of some trees and plants from the front & sides to the back yard, adding topsoil and sod to the front yard to cover up tree roots, weeding of entire yard (front, back, and sides--which was a LOT!), and adding mulch and plants & a few trees to empty spots and/or where we were removing other things. He worked with us to find out exactly what we wanted, where we wanted it, and even confirmed everything with me on the day of the work, every step of the way. His whole team was helpful and friendly. My wife and I engaged Tony and his team to remove an old shrub at the corner of our driveway, excavate dirt along our driveway to expand the driveway, build a retaining wall, and remove a shrub that the previous homeowner planted around our septic system. Access to our septic unfortunately is in our front yard so we had concerns regarding attractive alternatives. Tony and his Team came up with a creative idea of applying the same stone veneer used on the retaining wall to the septic and surrounding it with decorative grasses. We are very pleased with the final product; the retaining wall is very attractive and the landscaping is a vast improvement over prior landscaping. No VA Grounds were great. The owner Tony was timely, kept in touch and surprised me with how much he was involved. Tony kept in touch while scheduling (w rain it was hard to select a date and have it work out) and once we finalized a date he was there the day before w his foreman to run thru everything we had discussed. He was very flexible with small things we wanted to change and allowed us to re use a lot of what we already had. After everything was complete (he honestly has the hardest working crew - they were there from 7AM to 7PM to make sure everything got done) he was back again to run thru everything w me to make sure I was happy. There were a few items I wanted additional trimming on and his men were back the following week (w smiles) and finished it up. I would use them again in a heartbeat! read more
