DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH THIS FIRM! Like several others on this thread, I got burned by ASM. On 11/12/2018, I purchased a 7-day subscription to their online calculator program for determining HVAC system requirements and pricing. My credit card was charged $39.95 immediately. When I attempted to access the program, the screen indicated my subscription was expired and needed to be renewed. I opened a support ticket on 11/12/2018. 24 hours later, I'd received only the automated response -- no resolution to the issue and still could not access the program. On 11/13/2018 -- still unable to access the program and no response to my first support ticket -- I opened a second support ticket, requesting a refund. On 11/14/2018 -- there being no change and no response -- I sent an email to the company's info@asm-air.com address asking that it be forwarded to the CEO, Tim. Citing the tagline on his website -- "Honesty. No Nonsense. Just Quality HVAC" -- and his pedigree -- University of Virginia, Wharton School of Business, and U.S. Navy officer -- I advised him that I expected he would ensure that my subscription charge is refunded to my credit card account expeditiously. As of 11/16/2018, the only change in status is that the asm-air.com website is no longer accessible. Clearly, this company has been operating a scam. I will be filing a complaint with the Santa Clarita Better Business Bureau, where there's already a similar complaint from June 2018. BBB has assigned a D rating to ASM for issues with their website advertising and for failing to respond to that previous complaint. read more

I agree with some of the other posts that ASM is a scam!! Stay away. I signed up for their HVAC program that they tout on their website on Nov 27, 2018 at 4:45am eastern time, and after paying $29.95 and signing in, it showed that my credit card was charged, but their website stated the start date for using the program was invalid and my access expired. This was MINUTES after paying my money. I submitted a ticket, and they didn't respond. I submitted another ticket the next day, and again they didn't respond. I tried using their chat app, and it's an automated bot that doesn't really respond to your actual issues, it only tries to get you to buy access to their (non-existent?) software program. My next move is to stop payment through my credit card company. read more

I tried reaching out to this company for a quote to install a new condensing unit in my Carrier AC system... email bounced and multiple calls went unreturned. I read a review to be persistent, so I tried sending a message on their Facebook page, which was nothing but a frustrating bot conversation that went nowhere and didn't lead to a callback. I did, however, start getting spam calls shortly thereafter from myriad home contracting hyaenas, asking what work I needed done to my house. I'm pretty sure now that ASM is using some third-party provider for contact management that gave my personal information to a lead generating service and I'm fucking furious about it. I have enough problems dealing with rampant robo dialers and now I'm getting dozens of harassing calls for work I didn't put out to bid. Think twice before contacting them. UPDATE: looking again, the "Get Quote" contact button on your Facebook page links to Porch... which I didn't realize at the time and is why I've been inundated with spam calls. I interviewed about nine HVAC contractors in total. Since this was my first remodel and my first HVAC experience, I really had no experience or sense of what to expect. I started with Home Advisor, and was able to set up a number of appointments. I also did a Google search and Yelp search, finding ASM with good overall reviews and a great website. The experience was interesting. Many of the vendors showed up late, didn't show up at all, or showed up for maybe 3 to 5 minutes and just gave me an (inflated) price scribbled on a piece of paper. Only three vendors took the time to go through my system, talk about options, and actually engaged with me respectfully as a possible customer. Those three vendors were the lowest prices of all of the estimates I received. One was All Systems Mechanical, one of the lowest prices overall. The estimate was about $9,000 for a full replacement of furnace and 16 seer roof mounted A/C. I had two other quotes that were within $1,000 of that, and the other quotes were $20-$35,000! I ended up contracting with ASM air. Price is of course important, but the thing that made me choose ASM was a split between their website and the service personnel (Justin and his brother came together to inspect and do the work, NOT a sales guy! Dave was great on the phone, and really helped me sort out what we needed and helped with a tight timing issue with our roof replacement, since the A/C unit is on the roof). Doing a deep-dive through the ASM website, I was able to learn and a ton of information about the process of HVAC replacement, equipment, and the industry as a whole. They are extremely upfront and honest about the industry that they're in, which can be very cutthroat and has quite frankly become the new used car salesman for consumers. There are a LOT of bad experiences out there, and I saw some of this firsthand with people that rushed and gave me an overpriced estimate and didn't even look at my system. sales guys looking for a sucker, EXACTLY what the ASM site warns you about. Justin came by on time, took the time to go through my existing system. his quote was appropriate and he listened to my requests for equipment (we don't ned a Cadillac--Carrier--we are fine with a Toyota, Day-and Night). One of the things I learned from the ASM site is that most of the equipment is made by the same five manufacturers, something I would never have known otherwise. No one told me that except ASM. Justin fully backed it up and agreed that that was the case and was very transparent about the industry. Clearly they are trying to improve the HVAC process and win business in the process. Complete transparency and very careful attention to detail really does help a consumer. The reality is most people will not know anything about HVAC, yet there are many posts online of those who feel ripped off after install. That will only reflect poorly on the vendor on all of the social circles such as Yelp, Home Advisor etc., but many of these companies use commissioned sales reps to up-charge unsuspecting consumers. I didn't feel for a minute that ASM was ever ripping me off, and as I mentioned my primary reason for choosing ASM was the wealth of information I was able to learn from them. This was further backed up by Justin & his brother doing a GREAT job, being totally respectful of our house (covering the floors and putting on shoe covers EVERY time they entered). My fiancé was impressed with their professionalism, and so was I. Great work guys, highly recommended. read more

I just read an article this company posted about how to get a good hvac price. They say VERY uneducated things in the article ( like there are only two sizes of line sets) and come up with pie in the sky numbers on HVAC equipment. This is another click-bait website designed to sell ad space. Good on them for doing well at it, I suppose. Also they act as if commercial HVAC work is fundamentally more complex and difficult to master than residential HVAC work. They are, for the most part, two different industries. Instead of getting someone who specializes in work for your home, they are literally recommending someone who instead generalizes in a lot of stuff. Why not just call a local handy man? That way you can have him slap a new coat of paint on the basement wall before he leaves, too! But then again, the article was written by a Pilot with a finance degree. So I guess they just went right for the Appeal to Authority fallacy on this one. read more

The church I pastor faced a potential disaster going into Christmas when both of our furnaces went out just as a cold front descended on the Valley with freezing temperatures. Coincidentally, Mike, Tim and Sean of All Systems Mechanical were installing a new HVAC system in our home, so we asked them to take a look at the church. They could easily have tried selling us a brand new furnace, but instead they invested time and their years of experience in repairing our existing system. Over the years, various other companies had done a series of makeshift repairs that had become next to impossible to sort-out. Despite having several other appointments to get to, Mike figured a temporary fix to get us through the cold weekend, and then he and Tim brainstormed permanent solutions. They could have left it at that and we would have been satisfied, but they then figured a creative way to install modern, programmable thermostats to control our old furnace system. We have multiple services throughout the week, and now from our phone we can program temperatures and when the heating comes on and turns off. read more

I'm giving it a 3 out of 5 based on the overall value of their site (ASM-AIR.COM), not because of the $29, $39, or $59 consulting programs they sell. I bought a 7 day "Gold Access" support. I called them twice and never got a call back. I submitted 2 "ticket questions" but never got a response. I even submitted a review that is very similar to what you are reading here, but they did not put it on their site. That said, I am not complaining as the value of ASM-AIR is the wealth of information I got out of reading all about HVAC systems, features, SEER, AFUE, etc. on their ASM-AIR.COM site. I must admit that it is probably the best one-stop location for becoming educated on the subject. I think I literally read every discussion and blog Tim (the owner of ASM) wrote. Maybe I most enjoyed it because of Tim's background ran very close to to mine. I am an Aerospace Engineer (BSAE) by formal training but am not a pilot like Tim. I also got an MBA but certainly not from Wharton (like Tim) ... one of the premier institutions to obtain such a degree. I can tell you that you have to be darned good to get into Wharton so am in awe of Tim's qualifications to go there and it shows in his website. So as much as I admired Tim and his incredible ASM-AIR website, their followup was less than impressive. The online tool is good and I used it a lot. But even though he touts not being tied to any one HVAC manufacturer, I did find it curious that the only system ever recommended by that online tool was Day & Nite. I actually wish he serviced the area where I live. But he knows his limitations so I had to find a contractor closer to me. I reviewed my requirements with 5 different contractors on 7 different manufacturer's systems, including his top 2 and bottom 2. They ALL echoed what Tim had stressed in that the single most important thing in any system is the detail and care in which it is installed. And their prices were all over the board as well as their installation times and schedules. I almost went with a Goodman system based highly on Tim's #1 ranking of them. That said, I eventually chose a LENNOX system, sourced from Costco. I negotiated that contractor's price and installation date as part of my total analysis. Lennox uses proprietary parts only available from Lennox. But my contractor showed me what they do relative to "supply chain" sourcing of parts and alleviated my concerns. And my contractor's (We Care Plumbing and Heating in Murrieta, CA) installation team far exceeded any expectation or hope I could have ever had. One thing I never read about on the ASM site prompts me to make the following suggestion: Be as respectful to your contractor's installation team as you want them respectful of you. I made sure to have tons of ice-cold bottled waters and soft drinks for them. It was 91 degrees the day they installed my total replacement system including all of the ducting. Their team of 5 worked long and hard and hot ... and finished in one long day. I also made them a full cheese burger lunch with all the fixings to selfishly keep them focused on just my installation and not having to go someplace for lunch. And I thanked them profusely. They deserved it and more. One surprise. I knew that my home had a number of quirks. If I had one recommendation that I never saw discussed in Tim's ASM-AIR site it would be for you to require all ducts be inspected by all bidders to determine any potential problems before you proceed. It is all too easy to assume that the guy that installed your system 40 years ago knew what he was doing. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news in that regard but it could be the biggest problem you encounter putting in your new system! All that said, I wish Tim and ASM-AIR the best of success. But the real value of his site is the compendium of FREE information he supplies, not their online tool. read more

After doing months of research on Air Conditioning installation companies, I chose ASM for their expertise and customer service. You wouldn't believe the crap some of the "sales" people would say just to get me to buy from them. ASM replaced my furnace and A/C and added a zoning system at my request. All three of the people I dealt with were perfectionists, from the owner of the company to the installers. I was very impressed by their knowledge and how courteous and clean their employees were. My attic was cleaner when they left then when the got there (they cleaned up another repair person's mess). The prices were very competitive and the service top notch. I highly recommend them. read more

We were disappointed in ASM's service. We were looking for timely information on costs for a three zone system in SoCal. We signed up for their $29, 3 day service and attempted to fill out the questionnaire. The site was confusing in attempting to input for a three zone system and the result was a recommdation to install 3 distinct systems. We sent in an email request ( they have no phone number listed to contact them for questions) to contact us to help us before the three day trial was complete. After 6 days we have yet to heard from them. I would not recommend them for costing out zoned systems or their follow up service. read more

Just by dumb luck, I stumbled upon the All Systems Mechanical web page. I was impressed with the information they provided in their blog. Lots of good stuff there. Anyhow, when i saw they were local I scheduled an appointment for an estimate. Their quote was reasonable and I was impressed with the services and equipment they promised to provide. The best part? As promised in my original message I am commenting on the reply from the owner. The owner made contact with me 4/1/2018 (his message to was posted in the thread by the owner). He refunded the cost of the web app service and requested more detailed information resolve the web app issue, so I consider this a proactive solution. There was no reason given for the delay, only that this is not his Yelp page, but a subcontractors page, but that does not and he did not explain the lack of response to e-mails, phone calls/voicemail, or a 'support ticket'. I called his company on the recommendation of someone who had use them you install a new system on their house so they came out during a heatwave and on a Sunday to finish up some things and the charge was fair and reasonable. I needed the filter replaced in the unit and the unit serviced I called I spoke with Chris who arrange for Monday service as my friend had trouble getting the filter system out of the ceiling. They gave me a Monday date I checked in with him this morning I told between 12 and two Justin to the rescue. Not only did he manage to get the filter system out of the ceiling I had ordered a filter on Amazon he replace that got his shop vac vacuumed up in the return vent vacuumed the dirty filter box that no other service company is ever done installed a new thermostat showed me how to work it did the maintenance came down and gave me a full and professional report. They hire veterans and they do give a veterans discount and a referral discount I'll see you guys in February when it's time to change the filter and go from heating back to air-conditioning. I recently lost my Marine who had worked in the air-conditioning industry from 1972 until just prior to his passing when I called the company he worked for not a chance. read more

I found the company on the internet and saw some positive reviews, so I decided to call them. I needed an installation of A/C unit on a house that I just purchased. The person that I spoke with was Mike. He seemed like a very nice man. He arranged the time and date when he can stop by and give me an estimate. I had to wait for 3 hours before Mike showed up at my place. He gave me some silly excuse on why he was late. But that was fine. He promised me that he would send me a proposal by email within couple of days. And I never got it. I then called Mike again to ask him when will he be able to send me an estimate. His Answer was that he would send me by end of the day. I am still waiting. read more

This one's a head-scratcher. I read the excellent reviews, and owner Tim's well-written blog suggested the company would care about the quality of its work. So I emailed on 10/4/2016 "We live in Northridge and are looking to replace our circa-1995 4-ton central air, gas furnace and flex-duct. I read and enjoyed Tim's blog posts. It sounds like you care about the quality of your work. I'd like to discuss possibly hiring your company for the job." Tim responded same day at 8pm "Hi Rob! Thanks for the kind words! We'd be happy to help. What's a good number to reach you at?" At 9:13am on 10/5/16 I emailed my cell number. No response. I waited a couple days and sent a follow-up email on 10/7 @ 6:05pm. Nothing. A few more days passed. Maybe they prefer phone calls, I thought. So I called on 10/17 @9:30am and left a message, "Just calling to follow up on my October 4 email. . . ." The voicemail message says ASM returns all calls, usually within minutes. No response. A few more days, went by, and I left another phone message. Never got a response. I've worked with a lot of contractors and when the company isn't responsive before a contract is signed it worries me what will happen once I've paid for the work to start. Since all that's happened here is that I've waited for a return call for a month, I've given two stars, since 1 star (described by Yelp as "Eek-Methinks not") would have been unfair given the limited hassle I endured, and 3 stars is described as "A-OK, " which this wasn't. read more

I live in Illinois but was thinking about purchasing a new air conditioning unit vs having my 9 year old unit repaired. The a/c repair technician advised me of a leak, probably in the coils, and indicated he could repair it for $1000.00. This is much cheaper than trying to purchase a $6500.00, 2 ton unit which I would be considering. Your article advised me to go with my gut and I had pretty much figured on having unit repaired. I can't say enough about his outfit. My 20 year old unit died. Had another company out who tried to fix it but it just couldn't be fixed. They were very nice and highly recommended but their quote was shockingly high. Way out of my pocketbook. Somehow I stumbled on ASM and started reading their blog. It was SO informative. I found out I didn't have to buy the most expensive unit but could get one just as good or better for a lesser price. I called and Mike came out on a Sunday with a broken hand and climbed up on the roof with the same diagnosis. I told him I just flat out didn't have the five figure price for a Rheem. He said he could give me a Day and Night (made by Carrier) for a bit less. Sold. And they could do it within a day. I trusted him so much, especially after meeting his installers, that I left them the keys to my house and left for a school graduation. When I came home, everything was beautifully done. From what I've seen, this company has old fashioned values, ethics and honesty, plus excellent product choices. I highly recommend this company. These guys saved one old woman, four kids and an English Bulldog from suffering in the ensuing heatwave. Just in the nick of time. Thank you Mike and your wonderful guys! read more

I tried very hard to give ASM the opportunity to do a new HVAC system install including duct work. My wife and I had our system die on us and at 33 years old it was time to replace. I had to send an email and leave two messages until on the third call Mike finally answered. I get that they are busy. Just about every bad review touch's on the inability for them to communicate. When he did come out to give an estimate his first comment was about the person from my first quote that was just leaving my home when he arrived, referring to him as the "young kid", as if Mike's experience had to be better than his. Regardless I was still more interested in the job being done by a company I could trust. After the inspection Mike stated he could get the estimate to me before the end of the weekend. This was Saturday. Sunday came and went. Monday came and went. I called Mike Monday evening and he answered. He said he had the estimate in front of him and he was just completing it and would send to me soon. I never heard from Mike again. No call, no email, no text. If Mike is this bad before the estimate, I can't imagine how bad it is after you hire them. In addition to this, I looked up the license and it was no longer valid, which means he is not to be doing this work!!! The business address is a home and as far as I could tell they are a one man operation. The website also lists a guy named Tim as the CEO. He is the one that responds to these bad comments and yet everything I could tell in my research, he is no longer a partner as of 8/2017 according to their license. They have two Yelp pages that he responds to the negative reviews, one in Santa Clarita which is a residence address and one in San Diego at a UPS store address. The web site is completely void of any business address which I find strange. If you look them up on the http://www.cslb.ca.gov licensing site, both Tim and Mike show as previous partners but neither one with a valid license to do HVAC work. This business is questionable at the very least. Don't bother trying to hire them. They will disappoint you. read more

This is a GREAT company. Several other companies came out to service and recharge my central AC. They all told me that I had a leak that could not be fixed. I was told by all of them that my unit was old and that I needed to replace it with a new one for nearly $10,000 (we live in a Town House and the unit is on the roof). Of course they all wanted to sell me the new unit. I called ASM, they came out and fixed my unit with a canister of sealant that cost less than $100 and told me my unit was in great shape and would last for another 25 years. Well it has been 3 years since ASM came out and I have not needed another recharge since. read more

But over the years I've come to trust and appreciate the company from their help, advice and especially their helpful website. I've been able to repair my ac several times over the years using their website and talking to them a couple times without once having to call a contractor. The men and women at this company are first rate in my book and I would recommend them to anyone. My only regret is not living in their service area. But at least I have their helpful web page and it has saved me A LOT of money. They walk you through repairs for DIY'ers and how to check things. I've learned a ton from them and appreciate the way they have gone out of their way to help me. A+ company. You've gotta check them out. read more

I emailed this company asking for a quote on hvac replacement and never received a reply. I waited a week and called and left a message with my contact phone number. No response. I tried one more time and left my name & number again. I finally got a message on my answering machine that Mike had trouble understanding my phone number. It was given to him three times! I called again and said I was returning his call and again left my number. That was last week. Still haven't heard back. I was wondering if they'd gone out of business. This review is very late after my August install, however, it does not diminish my daily appreciation of the awesome job that Justin & his crew did on installing brand new HVAC in my little 1924 home. It was a huge, dirty job and was managed & orchestrated so well. Justin is the best - so meticulous and careful! Tim and Mike - super responsive as well to all my silly questions. I'm so grateful I won't suffer through another overly hot San Fernando Valley summer, and now in the winter, heat in every room (instead of a living room floor heater) feels oh so good! I've been corresponding with Tim, who's one of the brightest, most helpful (and funniest!) guys I've had the pleasure of dealing with as I try to navigate this process. Mike (another really neat guy, great energy and lots of fun) came out to look at our HVAC system, then Tim followed up with a very reasonable quote for replacing it.
