Once we had them and gave them a call to come back, they quickly resolved the issues with the right part. I called to schedule an estimate to have my 30 year old AC and Furnace replaced. Chris was able to squeeze me in his schedule that same day. Chris was communicative throughout the day prior to his arrival. When he arrived he put booties over his work boots prior to entering my house. As you can see in the ring video, I am wearing a beanie - no hair- have had medical problems treatments and procedures. My mom schedule the guys to come out and you can hear the ac unit running in the background. My mom knew I didn't want to see anyone as I was very sick earlier this particular morning. She said I didn't have to they, don't need anything -just taking a look at the unit... which was running the fan. The ring shows the interaction between the hilo owner and myself. I didnt realize they were here yet (no knock) & was was sick all morning. Again, this is my first interaction with them this day. Hilo had told my mom, "we don't even meed the unit running (fan WAS on) but it would be nice." So check the RING then the subsequent text message sent to my mom. The word salad they spewed after I addressed the text directly with them was wild.. Worst part is these guys claim to be Christians. The text was not positive. The text was not neutral. The text clearly intended to have me be perceived as a flake and doing something wrong. How does the ring video correlate with the text they sent? Not even the acknowledgment of being vile, of course no apology. All I have for them is the bird. new unit is brand new so it's fine. Character of the business owner and employee - vile. After quite a bit of research on brands and contractors we chose Hilo Aire after having worked with Chris on maintenance calls for our old unit. In the end it was the knowledge, integrity, and trustworthiness of Chris and others at Hilo Aire that determined our choice. They followed through with everything they said including replacing wood on the roof that was needed at a reasonable price. They also pulled the city permit and coordinated Title 24 HERS Testing for air/duct sealing and refrigerant charge. The installation passed inspection. Actually, not the cheapest, but without question the best. We interviewed three air companies, including the one that installed our central air four years ago. (Not Hilo.). We far preferred their discussions with us and how respectful they were - yes, we have a functional whole house system but with my mom now living in the bottom floor and us in the upstairs bedrooms (my office is one), my mom would freeze if we ran the big conditioner so I'm comfortable at work. Hilo to the rescue! I wanted a mini-split for the three bedrooms and I do my own research first - they strongly recommended my choice (Mitsubishi) - again, not the cheapest but the best - and they explained the ins and outs of the whole thing. I now snore at 70 degrees while mom enjoys the warmth and keeps her windows open. My office is noticeably cooler than the rest of the house during the day. OMG it isfantastic. BOOP and the room takes just a minute to be bearable. The installation was quick (two days, no move out, they swept after they worked, wore booties in the house, extremely respectful) and we were still able to use our central air while they were working. They were super patient with our puppy and my mom. Best part is, they're quite firm about how they "own" their work - if there's a screw up, they want to be the ones to fix it. They're hesitant to fix a homeowner-installed job because then, "we're responsible". Yup. I totally agree. Mini-splits are not for the amateurs, everything I read said that. They showed up when they said they would, delivered everything as promised, showed us how to work the system... yeah, this sounds obvious but it's not. They gave us options on where and how to install to make it as unobtrusive as possible (I have a ceiling unit in my office, and wall units in the other two rooms). The units are smaller than those I've seen previously. My only regret is we didn't do this years ago... read more

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Chris and everyone from Hilo Aire for installing my HVAC system. My old HVAC system did not have sufficient airflow and the structure of the home limits the choices of expanding the duct system. I knew it was a challenging project from the beginning. I called Hilo Aire and Chris answered my call and came the next day. He spent several long hours with me, checking everything in the existing system, explaining the pros and cons of every possible solution in a very clear and convincing way. His communication is excellent. He doesn't sound like a salesperson who just wants to get the contract. When talking to him, I wished he was the person who would do the work himself. His estimate was very competitive and even though I had several other strong bids, no other contractors had done as thorough of a job as Chris did and I trusted that Chris had a very good understanding of our situation and would be able to complete the project as he promised. At one point, I thought I would just leave Chris a text message late at night for him to see the next day and didn't expect any response that night. But he texted me back and answered my question after midnight. He didn't have to do that at all, but his responsiveness was impressive and it shows excellent customer focus. Chris was very busy, but on the day of the installation work, he showed up in person and explained the scope of work to his team. I was very impressed that Chris seemed to remember everything in our duct system: Which duct was where and which duct led to which vent, etc. It had been about two weeks since he climbed into our attic to do the work estimation and he remembered exactly where the work needed to be done without looking at the system again when the installation started. It showed that Chris is meticulous in his inspection/estimation and wants to make sure that everything is done exactly right, as he promised. His crew was kind and they seemed to take pride in their work. There was some additional work beyond the contract that we discussed during the installation. Hilo Aire crew come over for an extra day. Chris and I negotiated the additional cost. I was happy with the way we settled on the additional work and cost. Chris was frank with the extra cost on him, but didn't make any unreasonable demands. I have had bad experiences with other contractors before: the moment there was a scope change after signing the contract, the contractor seemed to use the power and leverage to overcharge the client. These bad experiences usually leave a bad taste in the clients. This time, the additional work was negotiated in a way that reinforced the mutual trust and good will and the project was finished to our satisfaction. After the project was finished, Chris and Brett were both very kind in helping me to arrange for the inspection. Today, the inspector signed off the permit. Before he left, he said: Hilo does a good job! I want to share that with Chris, Brett and everyone else in Hilo as well. It has been a good experience for me and I am glad I hired Hilo and met Chris and his crews. I would highly recommend Hilo Aire to anyone, especially if your project has some challenges. My system died in the middle of the night Sunday. On Monday I spoke to Chris and he talked me through getting it powered back on. Determined that it wasn't blowing cold enough. He came out the next day and fixed the system by adding more refrigerant, worked with the manufacturer (still under warranty), and told me in detail what the issue likely was (there is a leak- we will deal with that later). Sunday afternoon our AC went out while it was well over 100 degrees outside. I called a number of HVAC companies. Hilo was the most responsive. Chris said they would be out in the morning, and they were. Chris himself came. He diagnosed the problem in less than five minutes, explained exactly what went wrong and what needed to be done. He replaced a 24 year old capacitor and the AC is back up and running. Only a total of $159 for an urgent visit, service and part. Fast, efficient, friendly and helpful. 100% satisfied. Great value for money. I also asked him about a new system since ours is 24 years old. He explained the different options and pluses and minuses of each and how each kind of system works. He is coming back tomorrow to investigate our current system and needs and will give us a quote with different options. Our AC system had been on the fritz the last couple of summers and we finally decided that this was the year to replace. We got 5 estimates and could immediately tell that Hilo Aire was a cut above the rest. Their attention to detail and genuine desire to help was refreshing after receiving obvious disinformation from some of our other "sales pitches". They spent several hours walking us through our options and broke down the pro's and con's of converting to heat pump (the incentives were too good to pass up) and explained why some parts of our home were less comfortable than others. They were the only company that explained that our ducting was significantly undersized. They were on time, efficient and pleasant during the installation, finishing all of their work in two days. I work from home and they made sure to tell me when parts of the installation might be a little noisy. When they finished, they cleaned up as if nobody was ever there. We absolutely love how quiet and comfortable our new Mitsubishi hvac system is. We didn't like the initial placement of the outdoor unit (they told us it was tall, so it was our fault, not their's). Scott, their installation manager, was insistent that we were happy with the finished product. He relocated it back to the original location, without batting an eye. The city inspector even praised their work, which was really comforting, considering this was such a big investment. Our only regret is that we waited so long to do this. read more

Chris/Brett are extremely knowledgeable and took the time to go over all of my options in detail to make sure I was going to be paying for a system that made the most sense based on my needs and the size of my home. Our air conditioner gave out during one of the worst heatwaves. I called Hilo Aire, and Brett came out the next morning - Labor Day. He thoroughly inspected our HVAC system, and he talked us through our choices for the replacement. He went over all of the options. I felt like we were making well informed decisions. A week later, everything was installed, and we felt relief almost immediately. We also had more vents installed upstairs, and after 21 years, the upstairs felt cool, even with the afternoon sun. I stumbled upon Hilo Aire through a Facebook mom group after seeing that 4 different moms vouched for this company after our AC stopped working. My anxiety just went up and stressed that we'd have to be stuck in our "sauna" with this 100 degree heat and would take days to be fixed. My husband immediately contacted them which was a Saturday and minutes before closing. Brett responded instantly and he said even though it was after hours, we live very close to him and he said he'd come on his day off on Sunday to diagnose the issue. He came the next morning, found that the issue was the capacitor and replaced it right there!! Our AC unit was nearing the end of its lifespan and he could have easily tried to push and upsell us a replacement but instead he fixed the immediate problem at hand.
