Nicholas Aire has been servicing our home HVAC since we first moved to Santa Carita in 2010. In 2019 right before the pandemic, we finally replaced our HVAC (that came with the house built in 1992). Jeff Frank and his team found the complete system, did the install clean and neat, and in the middle of an appliance shortage. Fast forward years later a small part goes bad. Jeff and Nick have been maintaining my quirky at best older AC system for the past 15 years and throughout the past couple of years it had become apparent that I was on borrowed time with it.. This year the inevitable happened and while stressful, I at least knew I wouldn't have to call around and get bids. Nicholas Aire is great at what they do and I trust them and so there was no question about who I was going to hire to install my new system. Jeff worked very hard on finding a heat pump system that works with my annoyingly small attic and would be more efficient overall since my house is a bungalow (ie small). While I didn't shop around or get other bids, they seem to be in the middle of the going rate for HVAC installs these days from what I've seen. Jeff and the install team got the install done in three days with amazing attention to detail and even cleaned up some old wiring to make things on the outside look as nice and clean as possible. They also ran a very clean job site and made sure to clean up every day and treated all of my pets including the 100 pound backyard tortoise who is always in everyone's business with care and respect. My new system works great and Jeff made sure to go over it and test every vent to make sure it was all working properly. Finally, I feel it also needs to be pointed out that Jeff and Donna in the office have the patience of a saints when it comes to dealing with people and customer service. For context, my background is in urban planning and I'm keenly aware that when it comes to projects in my home I ask very specific questions that have nothing to do with the overall scope of the project but also at the same time I know nothing about HVAC systems which leads to even more annoying questions from me. (Seriously, I'm the worst.) Jeff patiently answered all of my questions one by one and somehow managed to not strangle me in the process because if I were him I would have. All joking aside, a 5 figure investment in your home is not something that most people take lightly. You want to feel good about spending the money and spend it with people you can trust. I have had Jeff out twice for repairs. These visits were about a year apart. He is excellent. This last time my air conditioning system stopped working after I had a new electrical panel installed (not connected to Nicolas Aire Systems). Jeff trouble shot the air conditioning system to determine the problem. He was quick, logical, knowledgeable, easy to talk to and fair in his pricing. He determined that the problem was not the air conditioner, but most likely a problem with the rewiring of the new solar smart panel that had been installed. Our AC unit decided to break in the middle of one of the heat waves to descend in Santa Clarita. It is very sad that Nicholas Aire has changed so much over the 30 years I have been a loyal customer. The last few years, even when I spent $37,000 with them on new HVAC for both my houses, I found the people talking to me on the phone are cold, or rushed, or make me feel like I am not someone they care about. After a few years of this abuse, I have switched to a new company who is much more responsive. I know it has been very hot in LA, but with all of the money I have spent with them, and the loyalty I have shown them, I would have wished they made me feel more like they wanted to help. It is very said when an independent, local company gets so successful they don't care about their old customers. I asked them to please make a generous offer to any of their technicians to come by our house quickly for what i suspected would be a quick service. They couldn't book us for over 48 hours. But luckily the Day and Night/Carrier AC website gave me a list of dealers and in less than 3 hours we had someone to our house to fix the HVAC that had been installed by Nicholas Aire. I will now be enterting into an on-going service agreement with the new company and I anticipate a much friendlier relationship going forward. If you don't mind being "one in a million customers" then use Nicholas Aire. But if you want someone who is compassionate and helpful, find another company. There are plenty of them. read more

I would recommend Nicholas Aire to anyone who needs work on their A/C. My unit is 25 years old and it quit putting out cold air. I called on a Monday morning and told them what was going on. I also mentioned that since my unit was so old, maybe I needed a new one. Donna, who I spoke with on the phone, told me to see if they could fix my problem before I considered buying a new one. Jeff the technician came to my house the same afternoon. He was just as nice as Donna had been. He checked my unit and found that it was low on Freon. He also checked the unit out completely and said that there was nothing wrong with it except for the low Freon. He filled the Freon and then told me to hang onto my old A/C for as long as I can. He said as of right now, I do not need a new one. I found this company very honest because of the fact that they did not try to sell me a new unit. Absolutely the best heating and air company in the area. Family owned. Have been using them exclusively for 22 years now. They were able to integrate a new heater with a very old AC unit, no one else would touch that job ... it saved me a lot of money literally ten thousand vs other bids. They gave me a rock bottom price on that heater in the dead of winter when it was was completely down and people in the house were sick, most other contractors I talked to shamelessly exploited that. More recently I got an exceedingly good price on a brand new modern heating and A/C system with a 20 year complete warranty. The new A/C is colder than the old one but is literally drawing SIX (6) times less amperes through the fuse box, the electrical bill savings alone will pay for itself in about four years. read more

Be careful with these guys! They came to our house to repair a leak. The repair failed within two months. Instead of quickly addressing the leak, they came back multiple times to recharge the system knowing of the leak. And charged us $200 each time. We were told that as we were not 'full install' customers, we would have to wait until the fall to get it repaired! This with multiple 105+ degree days!! Not sure why you are insisting that we were not charged for this repair! How or why would a business do a repair for free? Not logical or truthful!! We ended up calling another company that identified the leak within the first 15 minutes of their visit and repaired it correctly. And we were not even a 'full install' customer of theirs!!! Note: Yes, Yelp did remove my post as I inadvertently posted the name and phone number of a competitor that finally did the repair. It was against the rules and I get that. But in reviewing the rules, I found that it is also against Yelp rules for businesses to solicit reviews from customers either verbally or by attaching links to their emails. Doing this could skew reviews in favor of the business and make them appear better than they really are! I guess some businesses actually do that! Go figure! Anything for good reviews.... read more

The team at Nick's is amazing. They have installed a complete split system down stairs, new duct work and registers upstairs, and have been out anytime we've had an issue with our unit. They stand behind their work and what was more impressive is that they were able to offer a solution to our downstairs cooling problem that 3 other companies could not. Every other company offered to replace our undersized system with another undersized system. Nick gave a solution to install a split system and sized correctly. In the middle of Summer 2018, AC system was acting up. I sent an email to NAS late Friday; got a call from Donna, the owner on Saturday and have a services appointment for Monday. Kevin was dispatched, he showed up within the first hour of the appointment window. He jumped right in to take care of business. He knows HVAC system in and out; tested the system thoroughly, diagnosed and determined the problem. He explained his findings clearly. All corrective options were laid out with clear associated cost. The HVAC system was serviced and we're back in comfort zone with AC quickly. NAS is one of the few rare family own local HVAC repair/service companies left that I can count on for quick and honest service; 2 out of 2 and 100% effective; no drama, complete satisfaction. ***This review was for an AC service back in July 2016, which I left in Yelp's "draft": Central AC went down on the eve of one of those warmest summer days in the valley. NAS was selected from the final 3 list of local HVAC service companies; I got next day service appointment. NAS service truck pulled up right on time; the NAS service staff checked in and that was no other than the owner of the company! It took him no time to get to the trouble capacitor; he replaced it and we were back with AC. Unmatchable service provided by the owner of the company! A review about an HONEST company! Recently, I had the HVAC Co. I have used for many years (not Nicholas Aire) come out for a Spring maintenance service call. The tech told me my (2) units were over 20 years old, and in "poor" condition. (BTW: I thought they were working fine.) He hooked his gauge up (multiple times) and told me one of the units had NO FREON left. Said I had a leak. Would cost $700 just to find the leak. If (and only if) it was repairable, it would cost a minimum of $2,000 to repair. If the "leak" was in an area that could not be repaired, I'd have to get a new unit ($12K). Long story short, my gut told me to get another opinion. NICHOLAS AIRE came out the next day. I didn't tell them anything about the other company's findings. They checked the unit and told me the freon level was fine-no leak, and no reason to replace the unit at this time-running fine. I'll be using Nicholas Aire from now on! read more

I previously left a 5 star review for this business. However this recent experience was not what I was hoping for. My Lennox system was tripping off prematurely. I thought it might be the condenser fan (unit outside the house) that was replaced last year in September by Nicolas Aire Systems. I called the nice woman who took my message and set up an appointment on the next day, in the afternoon. My wife greeted the technician and he went to work. He called me a short time later and said that the blower motor (In the upstairs closet) was bad and that the ECM and motor needed to be replaced. ECM (Electronic Control Module). They are mounted together to turn the blower (squirrel cage). I was called the next day by the supervisor and he described how "Lennox" recommends that the assembly motor/ ECM needed to be replaced and they also recommended to replace the ICP, which is a main control circuit board. So far the tally is: Blower/ECM assembly - $1042.63 ICP (Circuit Board) $387.06 3 hours labor Total quote price of $1,500.00 All above was documented on their paperwork/ estimate. Of course I am sticker shocked at the price of the repair. But then the conversation turned towards how old my unit was (2004 with Refrigerant 410a). He proceeded to tell me how much money he could save me if I replaced the whole system for approximately $12K - $14K. This was difficult to grasp. So I started to do some research on the internet and started finding some really interesting information on this particular Lennox blower made by GE. After doing some digging, I found that a common problem was a Thermistor mounted inside of the ECM (controls in-coming current) was a common problem and can be replaced very easily. I am not an electrician. I work in a business that I manage that requires technical knowledge and research. I disassembled the blower, and found the thermistor was cracked from over-heat. I unsoldered the bad thermistor, took a picture of it and started shopping. I found them with a large electronics supply company that promptly shipped 3 to me. 1 Thermistor - $2.79. Shipping $4.00. Total bill was less than $20. The information I found on the internet was gained by simply putting in the part number that was on the blower motor and ECM. I found loads of information. None of the information I found was mentioned by Nicolas Aire Systems. Last night I mounted the blower, and low and behold, it ran perfectly! I paid the initial invoice from Nicolas Aire of $98 promptly. However, my own opinion is that they were not forthcoming with an honest assessment of our air conditioning system. I am very disappointed in their service and honesty. read more

Nicholas air installed a brand new mini split in my garage one year ago. It leaks freon and quit working. Called them and all they did is put more Freon in it and charged me 98 dollars. The refuse to fix the leak that they caused and say it's out of warranty. Complete joke. The owner told me when they installed it that they leak sometimes at the flairs and they might have to come back to recharge it and redo the flairs. He said we will see in about year and they would come and fix the leak. One year later and unit wouldn't work from low freon. Called for repair and refuse to fix there issue. My home units are 10 years old and never had to be recharged. Beware of liar and dishonest business people like him. I spent more than 5k with them and they are worried about a few hours of time. If I ran my company like that I would be out of business. Good luck and beware. Well, in response to Nicholas, I have a system that is a small split and does not hold more than 2 lbs of Freon, the fact that my 1 year old system was missing 1/2 of the Freon tells me there's a problem and that problem should be fixed by the company that installed it. I spent over $5k for this unit to have it not working in a year. There is something to say for customer service!! read more
