I called Zim's Chimney to get our wood stove inspected and the chimney pipe cleaned out. We have…read morebeen in our house about a year and hadn't had it looked at yet. The tech arrived early and discussed a couple things with me prior to starting. The cleaning took approximately 45 minutes. After he was done, he went through a list of things he'd found and suggestions. Basically the inspection came down to "don't use this thing again". Unfortunately for us, the pipe coming from the stove was not installed correctly and was too thin, the backing material on the wall to protect against heat wasn't fire proof. The hearth area was too short and the distance of the stove to the walls was too close. He also inspected the chimney which runs through an upstairs bedroom and found that the flashing that surrounded the pipe coming through the floor was not fire proof and the pipe itself, while sufficiently insulated, needed to be enclosed per code (something not mentioned by our home inspector). Basically the entire set up is a fire hazard. We won't be using our wood stove again and luckily know now that the entire thing is a fire waiting to happen. The tech didn't offer to correct these things or suggest additional work he could do. He did the cleaning, gave a professional opinion (even though it was all bad for us) and his rate was reasonable. I'd definitely recommend Zim's and suggest an inspection of any fireplace or wood stove before using.

I had bought my first home with a wood burning fireplace/chimney. I am new to fireplaces, so I went…read morewith this business to inspect and update anything needed to make my fireplace in good working order for the winter. When they came out, they got my wife (I work all day, so my wife had to deal with these people). Upon doing their inspection, they told my wife the following which was texted to me by her (see photo 1). We went ahead and hired this company to do the work and make those replacements (see photo 2 on how it looked before the work was done. What they said was going to be a week took almost three weeks and several phone calls with an update on what's going on. They came and did the work and we paid them. I'm going to assume they weren't going to think we were going to look at their work (please see photos 3 and 4 which is what we paid roughly 1800 dollars for). Needless to say I wasn't happy, and neither was my wife. She reached out to them and communicated what I thought was going on with their workmanship (please see photo number 5 for their reply). For them to actually argue that the collar they put on wasn't almost completely if not totally mangled and bent is absurd. Their reply was beyond mind boggling. We decided to have them come out and replace the mangled and bent collar (see photo 6 for the replaced collar). Also see photo 7 of the mess on my lawn they didn't clean up. The fact that they replaced the shoddy workmanship did help and ultimately prevent a complaint with the BBB and/or a potential lawsuit, but that is the last business I will do with these clowns. I will be giving my money and repeat business to a different chimney/fireplace company. Please take this review into consideration if you choose to go with this business.

Peter from Badger Chimney came out to my house for an estimate today. He would have been a no-show…read morehad I not called to remind him of the appointment, and showed up an hour later than he estimated without calling to say that he would be on his way, which I asked him to do. He badly scratched the hardwood floors in front of the fireplace with the metal eyelets of his shoes and then denied it, despite the fact that the blanket he brought was not spread out and his feet were hanging off of it. He pointed to a number of nearby superficial scratches saying that he couldn't have made the fresh deep ones past the edge of the blanket where his shoes had been, but I have photos that suggest otherwise. If you want a careless contractor who will show up late and damage your floors, this is your guy!

He cleaned up the job site well and cleaned all our gutters too! Price was right too. The only problem was that his communication needs some work. He got sick in the late winter/early spring and didn't let me know that he wouldn't be able to complete in the agreed time frame. Wasn't a problem for me but would have been better to just email or call and let me know. His work was also delayed by our wet Spring we had this year. Again communication with me could have been better. But, bottom line is he does great work. I would recommend him.

About a dozen years ago, we put in a large paver and retaining wall project in our backyard. Over…read morethe years, however, the retaining wall seemed to fail, and the brick patio became uneven. I actually had 5 hardscape companies from Madison come out and look at the project and give me a bid. Fact is only 2 of them were willing to do the project, but the guy from Herman landscaping said that repairing the project was in the wheelhouse of Jorge Diaz of Diaz Landscaping. When Jorge came out to look at the project, he really got an idea of the scope of the work and what would need to be done. Unlike some of the others, he said his crew would clean all the bricks, reuse them as well as the stone from the retaining wall. That was in August, and he told us that it is possible he would be able to do our job at the end of November. In October, he told me that the project would be done and we sent him a 50% deposit for the work. At the end of November, he began the project with his 2 brothers and his brother-in-law. This is his crew. They did a great job. 1/3rd of the job was removing all the brick pavers in the patio, which was about 800 ft² ,taking down a short retaining wall. They cleaned all the bricks as well as the stones. They brought in new gravel and pitched the deck correctly. They worked when it rained. We did have 2 snow days, though. When they were done, they cleaned up the site. Jorge had the vision on how this product project was going to proceed, and he executed it with his crew. I am very confident that he would be able to do any type of hardscaping project. Today, I was pleased to pay him for the work he and his crew completed. Diaz Landscaping is highly recommended for your hardscaping needs.
