All State Air to the rescue. A few days ago my home hot water heater failed. All State Air dispatched a team by 11:15 in the morning and a new heater was in place & 100% operational by 3:30PM. Received a quote to pressure test a mini split system and find a leak. Specifically, the quote read "PERFORM A DETAILED REFRIGERANT LEAK CHECK OF THE SYSTEM. ATTEMPT TO ISOLATE AND REPAIR LEAK IF REPAIRABLE. REFRIGERANT NOT INCLUDED, WILL BE BILLED AS NEEDED TO TOP OFF SYSTEM." The morning the technician was due, I received a quote from Frank, the owner. He said the quote I received was too low, but they would honor it, but it didn't include finding the leak. I kept trying to pin down exactly what was included, and eventually he said they would run the test and find the leak, but not repair it. I asked for it in writing, and he refused, because he "didn't want to get caught in something." Then he told me to find another company. Don't trust any company that doesn't honor their quote, and won't put in writing exactly what you are getting for your money. They'll cut open your system, then tell you it's an extra $X to put it back together, and there is nothing you can do about it. read more

Furnace stopped working. Called All State and a nice man said he understood I had no heat but it would be a few days before he could get a tech to me. Fine, I made the appointment, and he took my credit card number because, he explained, he had to guarantee the booking. The timing was just "the afternoon," so I cleared my entire afternoon. I was supposed to get a call when the repairman was on his way. Having gotten no call by 4:30, I called the company. A nice woman put me on hold while she checked the eta. "He's just finishing a job, you're next," she said. "But he is definitely coming today?" I asked. "I took off six hours for this." "Oh yes, he'll be there by 6:00," she assured me. It is 6:30. No one came, no one called, no one answers the phone now. Inexcusable. I was happy to provide my credit card in advance, so the company could trust I would not cancel on them, and waste their time, which would cost them money. They showed no similar respect for me, and did not even have the decency to tell me no one was going to show up after wasting six hours of my time. read more

Can't say enough good things. Everyone I dealt with was honest, reliable, polite, professional, flexible, customer-focused, and extremely knowledgable. Mickey listened to my situation and explained all the options over the phone, and Evi and his crew did an excellent job at the work-site -- they were very conscious about keeping the house/carpets clean and Evi took the time to explain and show me all the work. All State offered a very cost-effective solution and alternative to replacing and updating a whole system, thereby saving me about $10,000 or more. Other estimates -- one from a large local company who has been my primary vendor for many years, and another from a smaller, one-man operation who I called out of the blue -- only offered options for replacing the entire system and advised that there was *no way* to convert or update the existing system from R-22 freon. While their advice about replacing the entire system, versus retrofitting the existing one, is sound (and what I would ordinarily do, because it is an older system), it is NOT the only solution, as they suggested. Unfortunately, replacing the entire system was not in my budget this year. All State tested the system, located the leak, researched some alternatives with the OEM, and came back with a solution to replace a leaky coil with some new parts and upgrade/convert the system to the new standard (R410A). They put in a new outdoor unit, converted the air handler inside with some new parts, flushed and cleaned the entire system of freon entirely, and replaced the freon with the new R410A. The system works perfectly so far (though the real test will come in the summer, of course). In the meantime, the A/C is cranking out chilled air at 55 degrees at the register, the new outdoor compressor is whisper quiet (compared to the VERY noisy old fan unit), and I am at least $10,000 better off. This time, when out a/c broke down, Irwin and Tai worked so hard to get us up and running so as not to have to go through another hour in a heat wave night-they went so out of their way, I just felt the need to tell others how grateful we are for this kind of generous spirit of service. Good service Terrible customer service. I would have posted a higher rating but for the multiple errors and liaise-faire attitude toward those errors which caused us quite a bit of problems and inconvenience . One day before a scheduled vacation in Montauk our upstairs air conditioner went on the blink. I called our usual service only to find out they were temporarily out of business. Someone from that company highly recommended All State and gave me the contact information. Normally I would do some research but because we were pressed for time I called All State on a Friday morning before our trip on Saturday. After giving the receptionist my phone number, address and cc number we set an appointment for later that day between 1pm and 6pm. My husband stayed home to take care of this while I ran the various errands before we took off. Needless to say he sat there all afternoon and noone showed up. I called the company the following Monday morning and after a little back and forth we discovered that the person who took my information took the phone number down incorrectly. Absolutely no apologies, no accommodation for the inconvenience- just make another appointment that spans 4 to 5 hours. Since my husband did not want to leave the house without ac, he drove for 3 hours at the crack of dawn to have it repaired. The repairman was terrific! Identified and fixed the problem in about 3 hours. He left us with a detailed report but not a bill. The following Monday I received a phone call telling me that our credit card did not go through. After going through the numbers we discovered the person who had made the first error had also taken the cc number down incorrectly. She had also neglected to take our email so an invoice could be sent before the cc was charged. I had to ask for an invoice before the charge was made. Ok, we all have incompetent people working for us but I would have expected at least a Gee I'm so sorry you had all this trouble! So if you don't care if the support staff is incompetent, then by all means call All State! read more

Called about getting an estimate for both central a/c and Mr. Slims and the first appointment they showed over an hour early and didn't even call me and the second appointment they never showed up. I guess they don't care about creating new customers. I wish I could give no stars. I would definitely not recommend this company to anyone. read more

We have an older York roof-top heating and cooling unit at our office location in the Bronx. All State has been servicing this unit for many years. This past Christmas vacation during the cold spell the unit became unreliable. All State came a couple of times and performed service but the unit still occasionally malfunctioned. Finally on one of the coldest days of the year one of the owners came and spent four hours on the roof, in the wind and cold, taking the unit apart and finally traced the problem to a wire, broken inside the insulation so that the fault was not visible and had provided intermittent operation. Our staff is grateful to Russ for making us warm and comfortable. We are in the window servicing business and know how difficult it is to provide good service and appreciate it when we see it. I really like these guys a lot. I have used them for years. They have always been clear, prompt , level headed in advise, and thorough in completion of the work at hand. Last week they saved my ass. They were backed up with over 9 calls on one of the first HOT spring days and really went above and beyond squeezing me in to help take care of my 92 year old father and mother and their broken central AC. I dealt with Mickey in the office and several of their field technicians. I have never had a better group of service providers. All very professional, all were respectful of entering our home (we have small children) and the service was outstanding. Also saved me $300+ on replacement parts versus what I heard from 2 other guys.
