I could not like this place more. First of all, the team here, Luis, Carlos and the others are incredibly nice and helpful. We had U-Haul booked for our move and at the last minute told us they had no vehicles available for up to a week. We quickly scrambled and called all around Marin to see what vehicles we could get. Not only was All-Star extremely helpful their prices are far better than any of the others. We ended up using their services two weekends because frankly, I have too much stuff. We used both the 15 foot with a liftgate and 12 foot and both were really easy and comfortable to drive. Also, their mileage is only $.39 as other companies are $.89. read more

All Star Rents - Luis is THE best! - Machine & Tool Rental Near Me - San Rafael, California

Thank God this place is open 6 days a week and has great customer service. My boss flooded a room in her home and asked me to come clean it up. Raffie and his guys told me exactly what I needed and how to operate the machines. I am a smaller person in stature and was amazed I was able to make everything work by myself. The prices are reasonable and they have everything you might need. Personally I don't want to store multiple giant items in my small garage only to be used a few times a year. The equipment is in perfect condition and is maintained. I got a dehumidifier and an air scrubber. Martin runs this place and it is top notch. read more

All Star Rents - Big All Star Truck - Machine & Tool Rental Near Me - San Rafael, California

Do not rent from them. Needed equipment for 1 week. Rented the equipment 1 day before 4 days of rain. Asked if I rent it today if I will get credit for rain days and was told they would work with me. Get a call 6 days later that machine is due or they will charge extra days. We used 5 hours before rain, have not used since due to rain and I am now told rain days don't count on week long rentals. The guy is a liar. Do not trust them. Machine will be returned, paid for and we won't use them again. Picking 2 up from Cal-West in San Rafael. This is not just about the money its about a person flat out lying to you. Not professional Martin C. read more

Definitely 5 stars! I was sanding a floor 2 separate times and needed the heavy floor sander, edger and belts. The team here (all of them) were so helpful and kind to this older, female novice. When equipment had an issue, they never defaulted to assuming operator error (like I did) and were so good about exchanging (& grateful for the info about the units) and making us square. The second time, I noticed the floor sander was brand new, so they do keep up with the equipment. They are such a personable group and also very professional. Rental & return is easy & actually fun. I really felt like they were with me on this grueling project. Prior to retirement, I was a construction project manager, so it's more than the team just being nice to a clueless female diy-er. They just seem to have the best customer service attitude. I will always go to them for any equipment. read more

Made the mistake of trying the local option again. Called ahead for an item and the guy verified, in extensive detail, that they had that specific drill bit (length, diameter and SDS plus fitting) in stock and available for rent. Came by the next day to pick it up and the guy behind the counter was all "Who did you talk to? We don't even carry SDS plus bits." Serious waste of time, and no accountability (and of course no apology) from these guys. This place is just grubby and unprofessional - I'd rather go here than to their competitors in Corte Madera, but there is no contest in terms of service and selection. read more

I needed a 15' truck for moving in a pinch (half-days notice) and All-Star came through. I also had to negotiate a steep twisty road and load on a steep driveway. The first truck I had was great as the engine in 2nd gear picked up the slack for the brakes when descending a rather treacherously graded road in West Marin. I ordered another truck for later in the week. I made a 72 hour reservation and they had the truck ready. It was the newest of their fleet, about 5 years old. A lot about this truck was great, the overall ride, the mirrors. However, the steep West Marin road was a bit too much for it and the brakes got really hot really fast. The engine did not compensate nearly as well in second gear and I had to rely too much on breaks that were not properly cooling or whatever the issue was. I finished the one load, but did not feel safe doing another and called to have the truck switched out. They, specifically Alex, were able to accommodate me without a problem and made the transition easy (provided they had another truck available). The third and final truck that I used for the last three loads was older, had a rougher ride and poorer mirrors, but held up much like the first and was used for three total loads without incident. I got to know their fleet of 15 footers pretty well over a total of four days. These trucks are definitely recommended for local moves of up to moderate intensity. The billing printout can be a little confusing, and I could see how it would be possible to deal with unwanted charges, but that was never the case with me. After a little studying, all the charges made sense and seemed reasonable. If you want a higher quality truck and possibly more peace of mind, pay more and go with Penske. But Eric, Alex and the rest of boys treated me with equanimity and respect. Cons: - Not enough Wheel Chocks! read more

I would highly recommend this rental company! Our local non-profit organization rented a pc of equipment but for reasons beyond our control, were unable to return it within the time period required to have it back. Rafael was incredibly reasonable and supportive. It is local businesses such as this one that enhances a community. Thank you All Star Rents! Amigos Marin read more

This place has most of what you can think of for home improvement and projects. They have a good online catalogue, start there. Sometimes you. Call in to see if they have something and ether I'm not able to describe well or they don't understand the item I'm describing. Online solves that. Don't do the actual rental online, my experience is they don't check the reservations often enough. Call instead. Hold times are busy, borderline unacceptable in the morning. Also if you show up when busy, be prepared to wait, especially in the early AM. Also, check their hitching of a trailer. Last time their rep didn't seat it fully. I'm giving them 4 stars because of their inventory. Should be lower for service. read more

This was my first experience using All Star Rents. My business and partner and I needed equipment for a large sports tournament in the North Bay. Alex and his staff went out of their way to ensure we had everything that we needed. When we arrived to pick up a truck and equipment on a Friday afternoon, everything was packed up and ready to go. All we had to do was sign the paperwork and grab the keys. All equipment was in great working condition, instructions were thorough and service was quick and painless. We will definitely be using All Star Rents for all future events. A big thank you to Alex and his team! read more

Fred we owe you a donut! Thanks for your great customer service. You helped us turn around our day after a bad experience with one of the other rental companies in town. We will be loyal customers from now on. You're the best! read more

I've had good experience with ASR in San Rafael in the past, but my latest truck rental had a couple negative surprises. First, the published rental rate does NOT include a mandatory $13/day accident insurance charge (excused only if you can produce a special rider from your insurance carrier). You only learn about this when you arrive at the counter. Second, the truck goes out with a full tank of gas and they tell you to return it "full." But they don't tell you that "full" means you must TOP OFF THE GAS TANK! I returned it above the Full line but because they could squeeze more than one gallon into the tank, they charged me for that...at an inflated rate, of course. When I called to complain about being charged for gas after returning it above the Full line, Eric explained their policy and graciously offered to refund the gas charge. I declined and asked instead that every time they rent a truck, they tell folks about their policy that the tank must be topped off--not just Full. He promised to do so. I hope they live up to this promise. read more

I am a contractor. I have been renting tools and equipment for longer than All Star Rents has been in business in San Rafael. In the beginning I was pleased with the service and their equipment. Now I have come away frustrated for the last time. Just last week I went in to rent a tool for a job. The yard guy was showing me how to use it. He tried two and they did not work. The third had frayed wires coming out where they go into the tool. The yard guy went to get some tools. I waited for about five minutes before he came back. He had a couple of tools but not the right ones. Fumbling and making no progress he asked a co worker for help. Now I am watching two guys fumbling with the tool. Not having wire strippers one guy used his teeth, twisted the wires together and put scotch tape on it. Plugging in the tool to check the fix it popped, sparked and shorted out. So, they just repeated the process again. By now I have two employees waiting for me and the tool on a job site. Utterly frustrated I went back into the office trailer and asked for a cancellation of my order. The sales desk guy tried to up sell a larger tool. I said no, cancelled my order and went across the street to Jackson's tool rental where I rented the same tool in perfect working condition. The employee was pleasant, knowledgeable and The rental was less expensive. I don't know who owns this particular All Star Rents. Extremely unprofessional and rude. They don't even maintain or have staff that can maintain their equipment. We used to have a saying when I was younger, "Good Old American Knowhow" Not any more. Now I just say, "How Ghetto". You pays your money and you takes your chances. read more

The reply says it is from John W, but ends in Alex Martinez. strange. Please get the facts straight.FACT ONE Your first fax attempt and your machine said "NO ANSWER". strange, my fax or phone never rang. When I called after waiting Alex said his fax said "redialing". Alex said I would have to send him an email so they could send me the credit card authorization form.FACT TWO I sent the email. NO REPLY. I went to town and returned one hour later. Fax paper received and email received. FACT THREE I faxed the credit card info, waited 10 minutes or so, called Eric. never received the fax. I refaxed the form. Assumed they got it. I also faxed the same form to my local bank. FACT FOUR the bank received the form. Imagine that. Two days later Elmer returned the equiptment and said Eric has not received any faxes. I called Eric again, he said Alex was gone but went thru the faxes and emails and could not find anything. He then said he could take my credit card over the phone. He did and it was accepted. He gave Elmer a copy and returned to me on the phone. I told him what shoddy business practices they and I would never do business with them again. Come to find out they overcharged Elmer by charging for items not quoted in the rental agreement. I should just deny the entire charge. Now they will be busy finding people to comment and give them high praises. An adjustment to my credit card in the amount of $100.00 would be appropriate. My next stop is the Better Business Bureau. We have been using All Star Rents for many years. Customer service is always spot on and they're very helpful with our equipment request.

Professional and courteous staff, long lines sometimes but the staff are always helpful and make the wait enjoyable. Definitely recommend

The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable but the paper work was a problem. I'll be back again.

Smooth rental experience. No surprises. Wall paper steamer worked ok, but was a little worse for wear.

I've never written a Yelp review before and may never again but I was so impressed with these guys, I felt I had to give them a good word... I've been going to All Star a lot lately because I'm in the middle of a really big home project where I need to move a lot of dirt, rocks and debris. They've been over-the-top helpful renting trucks to me and very understanding of my needs for this project. Really nice folks to deal with too! A definite 5 stars! read more

I been renting here for over 40 years. The last number of years the service has been quite good and the equipment descent.

I recently rented a scissor lift from All Star and there was a miscommunication about the cost of delivering the tool all the way out to Stinson Beach. After speaking with the manager, they gave me the original quoted price no questions asked. The tool worked wonderfully and was delivered earlier than they had specified, which was great for me. I would definitely use them again but just make sure you get the quote in writing or emailed, just in case they try to change it on you the morning of delivery... read more

This business has gone down hill in the past few years, I have rented here for decades but will avoid them if at all possible. They have rude and deceitful people at the counter that will jump at any opportunity to provide bad service. Watch out for extras, paying for rentals of equipment that doesn't work and their unfriendly return policies. read more

ASR might not be the absolute cheapest, but I've used them a couple of times now and always found them to be helpful and flexible. I hired a trencher and returned it slightly late, no quibbles at all. Equipment was brand new. I hired a 15ft flatbed truck with hydraulic lift; paperwork was quick and painless, staff were quickly on hand to help with departure and return, and the truck itself was ideal and difficult to find elsewhere. I'll be back. read more

Slow unmotivated workers seem to make the experience difficult every time I go I don't believe I'll use them anymore

I great selection of tools and equipment for the "do-it-yourself" homeowner. Counter staff sometimes very slow or distracted, so patience is advised. I was in a hurry last time, and the person behind the counter was having a lengthy, non-work related discussion with a couple of buddies. He didn't seem to notice me for more than 5 minutes, so I left and came back later... read more

On 3/21/14 I went into All Star Rents to rent a BBQ Large grill. As a result a representative had assist me and showed me what grills they had. Since both of them were very dirty the gentleman said he would wash it for me prior to renting this Wednesday. I told him I would come back therfore I return to rent the grill since it was going to be cleaned. When I walked back in the store a guy by the name of Eric decided to help me (2nd representative.) He did not initially know what I was coming in for so I told him I wish to rent the BBQ grill. While he was looking it up I mention that the grills needed cleaning prior to my rental. He looked at me like he didn't care what was needed and was very curt with me. I asked him if he was a happy camper and he just looked at me. The customer behind me which was a man said that he was feeling the same negative vives. Please check and talk to this representative named Eric because he wasn't professional at all and did not give any customer service. I would probably not return to rent anything again from him due to his bad additude. Give him some HAPPY training! read more
