He is a great guy, VERY friendly and cordial and has a great bedside manner. Highly recommend him! Dr Straus does not have any kind of bedside manner as well as their office staff. I tried to get through on the phone about the paperwork that was not finished according to them. I had called and got their automated system and I want to tell you that it was horrible. It took me forever to get to a live person. I have never seen a Professional doctor's office wanting you to text or call them to a number and when you call that number, it is still the same automated system. You would think since it was a doctor's office that you could at least talk to a person. His nurse or assistant came in to take the stitches out of my husband's foot and handed him a pair of scissors and told him to cut off the bandage on his foot himself. In all my years and all the doctor's I have seen, I have never had a nurse or assistant tell me to cut off my own bandage. Dr Straus does not speak to a patient like a doctor should. He is quick and goes to the next patient so he can line his pockets. I will never recommend this place to anyone not even my worse enemy. read more

I saw Dr Hoenig for what I thought was arthritis in my right hand. He had xrays taken and took a look at them and said he wasn't sure what the issue was. he sent me for an MRI of the hand and told me to see Dr Hahn when I came back. When I came for my follow up visit, Dr Hahn walked in, looked at the xrays I had on the first visit and said I had arthritis! I asked him if he saw that on the xray and he said yes and showed it to me and explained it to me. He took his time to explain the issue and all my options. I sent three different emails to the office to inquire about why Dr Hoenig sent me for unnecessary imaging and couldn't make a diagnosis, with no response. I have been using All Star Orthopedics for 15 years. I love the doctors. My complaint is the change in communicating with scheduling. It has gotten SO difficult. I tried 4 times to call to cancel my appt and never could get anyone to answer. The texing system is very in efficient. I left a voicemail on Monday to cancel my Tuesday noon appt and in the message I requested a confirmation that they had recieved my cancellation. I never heard anything back. On Wednesday I receive an email stating that I had missed my appt and that I should cancel when I know I am going to miss. This system is very frustrating. It has not always been like this. All facilities go to that one number- just inefficient. read more

While I'm satisfied with Dr Honik, and my surgery, the communication from the office staff is atrocious. I was originally told my surgery would be at 8:45 AM. The surgery center called me the week of 10/30 to tell me my surgery was rescheduled to 12:45 but could change up until the day before surgery. I wanted to confirm this change with the Dr's office so I called, and left voice mails for Courtney every day from 11/6 thru 11/9. On 11/9 I called the front desk to ask if she was still employed and she magically appeared. After the excuses she confirmed that my appointment was changed and stated that she would personally call me back on 11/15, the day before my surgery, since the time could change again. On 11/15 I called Courtney numerous times, and left VM's, but never received a return call. While the scheduling department is inefficient the billing dept is VERY efficient, or perhaps inefficient. My initial appointment was on 9/15. In October I received a notice that I owed $102. My surgery follow-up appointment was on 11/22 and I paid the $102. It is now Dec 17th and I continue to receive notices from a Collections Agency for the $102 that I paid on Nov 22nd. Perhaps they might consider saving money on a collection's agency and put it towards another head count for a Surgery Scheduler and a person for Billing. read more

Dr Timon recently treated my wife. After several babies and demanding jobs that kept her on her feet for long hours, her back has taken the brunt of it. She had several bulging discs and they were pressing down on a nerve causing some numbness and what appeared to be excruciating pain. He was thorough and kind, great bedside manner and helped set us at ease. A fear was surgery- which we haven't had to do... but after meeting him we felt better about all Of it. read more

All-Star for me have been All Star me. My first visit was 3 years seeing Dr. Hurt regarding my knees. I felt like that was the best care and advice I could have received. My knees have improved and when I injured my arm a couple of weeks ago I knew to call All Star. The staff has always been friendly on each visit for me. I've never had the issues I see in previous reviews. My most recent visit I didn't feel rushed they are efficient and there is nothing wrong with that. I would recommend them in a heart beat. Disappointed to find out an hour before our appointment that All-Star has dropped Tricare Reserve Select despite the increase in our premiums. Their insurance staffer was extremely rude when I tried to explain that it against federal law for me to email a copy of my DOD ID card, so we would drive in an hour early for the appointment. I continue to be surprised at how difficult it is to find doctors in this patriotic state who are willing to take Tricare. We lost our dentist this year as well. The office staff (save the bossy receptionist) are fantastic. They are genuinely interested, have personality, and make you feel at home in the office. Dr. Strauss takes his time to explain procedures, surgeries and recovery. I had a complete ankle replacement and for the most part, was in accordance with the expectations put forth. A few complications, but that's the risk with all surgery's. I strongly recommend Dr. Strauss and the office. ( but don't tell them that....I always tell them how flaky they are! :) ) read more

We tried to schedule there after my husband had a rare knee injury from a car accident. They asked tons of questions about the accident and we assured them we weren't using anyone else's insurance, no attorneys were involved, and we were using private insurance as the injury wasn't caught until weeks after the car wreck resolved with insurance. They transfered me to someone else and once I told them all that and BEGGED them to see if they could treat him, as it's a rare and painful injury (morel lavallee lesion)....they said abruptly they couldn't help us and to go see our GP for another referral. WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THEM. We found another doctor in Dallas who easily got us an appt. Don't go here. read more

The staff at the Irving office has very poor customer service skills. Initially, the nurse appeared to have been having a bad day or lacks in people skills. I felt as if she was being rude, but maybe she was just having a bad day. However, once she came back in, her attitude was much better. Dr. Strauss was great and thoroughly explained everything. Lastly, I had billing questions, just so I could fully understand how everything works, as I have never had to see a specialist before. Jackie, I am assuming the receptionist, was rude and became very defensive with my questions, when I simply just wanted to know the full charges for everything, so there would not be any surprises later on. She kept saying "you have a high deductible", which I was already fully aware of, I just wanted to know the full exact amount I am responsible for. I was NOT asking "why is the amount so high", but was simply asking "what are the charges". She never explained the "true" cost of my visit. She also began speaking with another customer on the phone when she was not fully done assisting me, which is very inconsiderate and disrespectful. I work in customer service escalations for an insurance company, and customer service is VERY important for a patient's experience and recommendations. I do NOT recommend this office to anyone and highly doubt I will return for a follow-up, solely based on the customer service experience. If the nurse had been a little more upbeat/friendly, and if the receptionist, Jackie, had taken the time out to explain the billing process, then I would have greatly rated the Irving location a 10 as I was there less than 45 minutes. read more

Thanks to TheDrugDealer and all the drugs I was on, I was falling all the time. Losing my balance, vertigo-like symptoms, and walking like I was drunk. When I was walking into my 1st Sleep Study on Sept 29 2005, I fell in the parking lot of the hospital. I landed flat on my left knee and since I was carrying an umbrella, my school backpack and luggage for my overnight stay, my right shoulder had the rest of the damage. For about a week I couldn't move my arm to even put on a bra. My next door neighbor had to help me. My knee only hurt when I put pressure on it. Which in Culinary School was all the time when we were scrubbing kitchen floors. On October 19, 2005, I went to see Bing S. Tsay for my knee and shoulder. He said I had a Rotator Cup Sprain in my shoulder but it had improved significantly by the time I saw him, he expected that to continue. The knee on the other hand... I showed him where it hurt and he started pushing on it. I grabbed the sides of the table and grit my teeth to keep from screaming. He said when you fall directly on your knee you can bruise or bust was is called the Subcutaneous Prepatellar Bursa Sac. This sack will bleed or leak which can cause scar tissue. The scar tissue is what is so painful. This is a condition known as Prepatellar Bursitis. He said during that appointment that he normally gave cortizone shots as the first line of defense against the pain that this condition causes, but wouldn't you know it... cortizone is one of the two medications I know for a fact that I am allergic to. Instead, he gave me a sack full of samples of Mobic, an anti-inflammatory (and to stop taking the Naproxen from "TheDrugDealer" as together they can cause ulcers) and said for me to go buy a Knee Pad and start wearing it for the next 3 - 4 weeks. At my follow up, he started mashing on my knee and I started tearing up. He found the worst spot and I had a hard time not screaming. He said, so, I see this has not gotten any better. Well... since you are still allergic to cortizone then I guess our next conversation is surgery. He said that he would make a small incision on my knee and then go in and clean out all the scar tissue from the busted and bruised bursa sac and then stitch me up. He said it was a quick surgery, in an out, go home the same day and start walking the same day. Just to keep that knee straight for a week. I had surgery on Dec 29, 2005. The surgery was a breeze. The worst part was the fact that my veins like to play hide and go seek with nurses trying to install IVs and the shot of phenergan in the top of my right thigh after I threw up the grape juice and animal cracker snack they gave me in recovery. I have a long scar across my left knee left from the incision and 8 stitches. I was only on pain meds for one day after the surgery and was on crutches for a week. If you have to have your knee sliced open, Dr. Tsay would be a good one to do it. read more

I never thought I would opt for knee surgery. I have a partial tear on my right acl from snowboarding in Utah in March. The good news was I did it tearing down my first double black diamond...woohoo! Hey at least I didn't tear it doing something lame like tripping on a pebble right? I made an appt with All-Star Orthopaedics and the only appointment I could get was with Dr. Tsay. I was nervous, I've never had an injury like this before and have heard a gazillion horror stories about getting your knee "cut open". While I was sitting in the waiting room, a lady next to me asked me which Dr. I was seeing and when I mentioned Dr. Tsay she lit up and said "Honey I've been seeing him for over 10 yrs and he's the best!" I felt a little better. As soon as I met Dr. Tsay, I felt more at ease. He has a very easy manner and seems very fit. Not that unfit Dr.'s can't be great but a fit sports injury Dr. makes me feel like they can relate since they may enjoy the same sports and may have even sustained the same injuries. In fact, Dr. Tsay also skis and snowboards and had a worse acl injury than I and has healed very nicely from his own surgery. What I liked most about him was he didn't tell me to go under the knife right away. He looked at my xrays and wanted to make sure it wasn't just a sprain (although it looked like a partial tear) so he sent me to physical theraphy for a month to make sure. During my follow up appt a month later, he tested my knee and it immediately gave. Wow, that was weird. He did a couple other tests and finally said it was definitely a tear and that I had two options: not have surgery but I may not be able to do all the things I used to at the level I want or have the surgery and be able to. I asked him a ton of questions and he patiently answered everything including sharing the story of his own surgery. That made up my mind. I am looking to have the surgery in August and hopefully will be back on the mountain by this coming winter season. Will give updates once I have the surgery. [EDIT] Update as of 10/2/09 Surgery was on 8/14 and was an amazing success! I feel like I have a brand new acl...which I guess I really do! Ha! The entire medical staff from Dr. Tsay to the hospital to all the people that assisted in my recovery was just incredible. They were supportive, caring and made the whole experience so easy I *almost* wouldn't mind blowing out my other acl! ^.^ Preferably not of course but if I did, I know that I would be in good hands (like Allstate but not). They even gave me photographs of the scope surgery, pretty darn cool I'd say. The staff at All-Star physical therapy is great also. They are really careful in making sure you aren't overdoing it and listen and adjust your PT to suit your personal needs. My one month checkup went great, in fact I am doing better than most but then I'd always been pretty active so the recovery is also easier. It's been 1 1/2 months and other than a twinge which slowly lessens every day, my knee feels amazing. I can't wait to hit the slopes this season but the doc is holding back getting my custom knee brace. Grrr!!! Ah well, he knows me. He knows I'll probably do something silly as soon as I have the false sense of security the brace gives you. All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better Dr. or medical staff. Poorly-run and shady practices. First I was told I have the start of plantar fasciitis. Doctor recommended a topical cream and orthotics. I leave, 3 days later a box of the cream shows up at my door- with a bill. I told the company I never ordered them, and they finally said to just keep it and they'll cancel the bill. Same thing happened the following month! New pharmacy, different name, different billed amount, and none of the phone numbers worked. Next- orthotics. Enter Gabe/Gabriel... Seems I'm not the only one to complain about him. Recommended generic (not custom fit) orthotics. Says they usually don't bill insurance for them, but I called my insurance company who said they CAN bill, which Gabriel agreed to do. I kept asking about custom fit ones (I'm used to those from a podiatrist) and Gabe really kept pushing me on these, and to buy today. I did, he said he'd bill insurance. Well, I got a bill for them from All Star. Shocker. I disputed it, they told me 'we do not bill insurance for these'. I escalated. Finally got a call back and they said they simply don't bill insurance for them, and I owe the amount on the bill. Finally got it reversed after a lot of repeating my story... Lots of attitude from Rynae. She seemed pleased when I said I'd never come back to their office again. Back to the orthotics. They caused so much additional pain that I had to seek medical attention elsewhere. The office didn't seemed too concerned with that. I'd never recommend these guys to anyone. If you do go there, don't see Gabriel. read more

I came in to All-Star Orthopedics for a pinched nerve that I needed a medicated response to. Suffering with headaches and limited mobility because of a literal pain in the neck for 4 weeks gets tiresome and frustrating, and I just wanted a specialist solution without subjecting myself to silly chiropractic pseudo-medicine. Took me 15 minutes to figure out that All Star Ortho was inside the Baylor Healthcare building, but once I discovered this, it was simple finding their office on the 3rd floor. All-Star has a bevy of office staff, techs, and PAs to handle the day-to-day operations. Most of the patients that I saw were there for work-related or sports-related injuries. As with all waiting rooms at practices of this size, All-Star Ortho's lounge was full of patients scheduled for appointments. As with any sports team, the team players (lab techs and assistants) do all the grunt work while the star players (the doctor specialists) earn their salaries with a winning 5-10 minutes of on-the-field time. Most of my visit (about 20 minutes) was spent with the technician manning the xray and the PA recording observations and vitals. Dr Timon made the official diagnosis of a pinched nerve, even pointing out where the issue lay in my xray charts. Then, he was off to see another patient, while my PA filled out my script for some steroids to help with the nerve inflammation. All-Star Ortho was terribly efficient in setting up my visit, getting my paperwork documented, and getting me in to see the right people (even their online appointment service was trouble-free) but it has me guessing on the doctors' bedside manners if my situation were truly dire or serious. In less than 24 hours after getting my script filled, the pain was subsiding and in 2 more days I was back to my usual exercise routine and day to day activities. If ever I experience a recurrence, I know to visit All Star Ortho to get it fixed. read more

Michael K. Hahn, M.D. I went to Dr. Hahn at the end of last year due to a trigger finger. Dr.Hahn gave me two shots to relieve the symptoms which did not help, we then decided to cut the sheath around the tendon. Dr. Hahn had a P.A. with him who he seemed more focused on her than me, and the results spoke for themselves. I went from no pain to extreme pain, I was then unable to bend my finger or straighten and the swelling never went down. When I went back to him his fix was to remove half my tendon. Needless to say that was my last visit All Pro Orthpeadics in Southlake which also double charged my co-pay, when confronted about that I was told to bring it up with my credit card provider and file a claim. As a lot of people have said that this doctor's office only cares about money and not people. Well that is completely accurate. I would avoid this place. First of all, I waited for over an hour in the lobby and right before I got called back, I got a phone call from my boss. I talk to my boss for an less then 2 minutes and the nurse got an attitude because I was on the phone. I also had the worst experience with Gab in the Irving office on Tuesdays. He is the guy who fits orthotics. I also had issues with Jackie one of the women who work the first desk. Gab fitted me for orthotics. They were really thick and bulky and didn't feel right in my shoe. I walked around in them and told him they didn't feel right while in the patient room and didn't think I should buy them; but Gab kept encouraging me to try them saying it takes time to get use to them. I then went to the front desk to pay for them but was still undecided because they still didn't feel comfortable to me. I kept walking around to see if they could work for me before purchasing. Then Jackie calls Gab to the front desk to tell him they didn't feel comfortable for me but Gab still encourages me to just try them and see how they do. So I finally say ok I will try. The very next day I call them to let them know the orthotic still did not work and wanted to return them and from that day I never wear them again. When I get back to the doctor's office, Gab tells me that I signed a piece paper saying I could not return them. If that were the case, I should have never been encouraged to "try them." I should have been told upfront, make sure you really like how they fit because you will not be able to return them. Later, Gabs attempts to cover his a$$ by telling me he directly told me that I could not return them. He told a bold face lie to my face. Now had he told me I could not return them, I would have never purchased them considering how undecided I was about them in the first place. Furthermore, when I go to corroborate the story with Jackie, (the front desk office lady that called Gab to the front desk during the original appointment to let him know that the orthotic did not feel comfortable), she acts like she knows nothing. These thick orthotics would have been impossible to wear for my main activities which is CrossFit and then running. They may have been ok for walking only but my goal when I took the original appointment with this office was to find an orthotic for CrossFit and running. Additionally my Chiropractor (that I have seen since 2004) said that the thickness of the orthotic would have put more pressure on my knees and back. This place is all about sales and money not your health and what is best for you. read more

Dr. Straus took my case after I had to have surgery for a major break of my tibia/fibula while on vacation in California. My accident turned into a year of ups and downs, including a total of 3 surgeries, an infection, and a double PICC line. Dr. Straus was always attentive to my needs and was very quick to act when a problem arose. He was always very professional as he presented options as well as being sympathetic to the fact that I was having an unusual amount of difficulty. His easy-going, positive nature helped keep me calm through the many challenges of the year. Dr. Straus always took the time to explain the results of x-rays and scans in detail. He also explained surgical procedures before and after surgery, as well as what to expect throughout the healing process. In addition, he made sure I had the medications I needed ahead of time in order to be able to go home as comfortably as possible. He is highly knowledgeable and genuinely cares about his patients. His wisdom and ability to analyze situations and act quickly was always reassuring to me. In addition, Dr. Straus has a great team working with him in his PAC, Julie, who is also very knowledgeable. Amber, who was always quick to complete the necessary paperwork and was great about returning calls quickly. And Gabriel, who not only did an excellent job with the casting but provided humor, compassion, and tips on how to stay positive in trying situations. As a result of his professionalism and expertise, I would highly recommend Dr. Brian Straus and his team to anyone needing a great orthopedic doctor/surgeon. read more

I ended up breaking my ankle in 3 spots and needed surgery - so I started searching for some good places / doctors. Dr. Straus came up on the list and since he was the fastest to get me in (I only had to wait 3 days to be seen) I figured I would give him a try. I have to agree with another reviewer to say that their customer service is non-existent. The most help I got was the receptionist bringing my DL & insurance card back to me (I was on crutches). It took my purse falling to the ground for a nurse to ask - 'can I help you?' The wait wasn't the worst I have seen and they were quick about that. Dr. Straus came in - introduced himself, and went right into the exam. He told me about my fracture and told me I had to have surgery - no alternative. He said I could go into a cast - or a boot - but surgery would need to be this week or next. (this was a Tuesday appt) (my ankle broken on the Thursday before). I opted for a boot since he said I would go into a boot after surgery anyways - but pushed me for a cast. I didn't see why I would want to pay for a cast to have it cut off a few days later - to end up in a boot. I felt like that was being money hungry. I knew this was going to be an expensive surgery - and when I finally got with Christie about payment // there are no payment arrangements - but you "have to have it done" I was quoted $2000 for the doctors portion and the hospital would be additional. They would require it up front also - unless we did it at Baylor (there / downstairs) and they may allow payment plans. I told her that I couldn't pay right then, but I need a little bit to get some money transferred around. She offered no apology, no sincerity, and no empathy towards me which I found distasteful. I am sure that she spends all day listening to stories like mine - don't have the money - can't pay etc. But you can't lose that sense of yourself when dealing with people. Within 2 hours I called their office back to 'schedule my surgery'. You can talk to an operator - but they reroute you to their individual lines - so I got her VM. The VM said she was on vacation and would return today and follow up after that. I left a message (Tuesday). I called 4 times on Wednesday to finally be told by the operator that she would return call in the order she got them and it would probably be tomorrow when she called. Mind you that I was almost a week out at this point from my fracture - I don't really want to wait any longer for a fix. I forgot to ask about refilling my pain medications at the doctors appt (my bad), but I had to go to VM for the nurses line for a request for that. They DID call back - to which the only thing they could do was hydrocodone (which I don't do well with) or tramadol (doesn't work for me) OR stay on what I have (Tylenol 3). I was discouraged since Tylenol 3 wasn't really covering me very well on pain - but something is better than nothing, right?! at 4:39pm on Wednesday and knowing they weren't going to call back I ended up going somewhere else -- Dr. Stickney @ Foot and Ankle Associates of North Texas) came with very high reviews from another orthopedic surgeon (she just happened to be booked which is why I didn't go to her originally). His office got me in first thing today - and he agreed with surgery - and gave me a bill for $1000. HALF the cost of Dr. Straus. Maybe you get what you pay for -- but the client service at Dr. Stickney's office was night and day difference than here. I would recommend that you read the review I am about to leave on their website for how they went above and beyond my expectations. read more

In terms of customer service and response, this place is the worst. Find another office. Run, don't walk! Dr. Strauss is a great doctor, but his nursing staff and front desk personnel do not value your time nor money. There are long wait times before seeing the doctor that result in a 5 minute consultation. If you call back with follow-up questions, be sure not to call between noon and 1:30pm because they're out to lunch. I have a six figure corporate job and have yet to take a 1.5 hour break when customer service is a priority. You can always leave a message, but they NEVER return your call. I have left 3 separate voice messages in the past month with no reply. I was referred to another office for orthotic inserts, but they never FAXed the prescription even tho I called to confirm 5 days prior. I will be looking for another orthopedic doctor, and I warn everybody to stay away from here. read more

I completely agree with the reviews of this office just pushing people in and out. I too wish there was a 0 star rating because I would select it. I suffered an injury about 2 years ago and started feeling some awful pain, and knowing something could be wrong I quickly started seeking an appointment to be seen. Unfortunately, my prior doctor closed his local office so I decided to come here. A coworker warned me about this place, but due to the location I went ahead and scheduled an appointment anyway. I arrived early as any new patient should, and as the other reviews stated.. I had to wait. I then go back and was asked 2-3 questions by the girl that took me to the room. She then tells me they wanted to do x-rays of an area that wasn't even hurting. I questioned why they wanted to do it there, if my injury and pain was elsewhere and I was given an incredibly short and rude reply. I was completely caught off guard by her attitude, and just went with it not knowing what else to say. Dr arrives, and I gave him an overview of my injury 2 years ago and how I started to feel sharp pain recently. As an athlete you know, when something is wrong..but this doctor just eyeballed the area, told me it was fine and assured me I just needed to stretch. He never asked what brought on the pain after so long, what I did for rehab/PT following the injury, what am I doing now to treat the area..nothing. On his way out the door, he told me "your ankle xray looks fine." Well, yeah it SHOULD as that is not the area that I went in for!! I strongly suggest looking elsewhere if you are looking for a new doctor. read more

Wish I could put zero stars. I arrived at opening, from there I proceeded to wait 2 more hours to be seen. I agree with the other reviewer here, that they wanted to get you in an out ( like cattle). I sat in the room for another 30 mins, during which time I could overhear the nurses and doctors complaining about how behind they were. Along comes (Dr.) W*********r, who looked , no joke, like he was high on pills or something, eyes glazed over, jittery, looked ,all 'tweaked' out. Spoke with me for a total of 2 mins. Sent me home, told me nothing is wrong... "rub icy hot on it". Its been 8 months and the problem still exists. This lovely visit cost me around 400 dollars too! You have been warned. read more

Terribly ran and unprofessional! Do not go here! The office staff overbills and never calls you back! Tiffany and Stacy both do not return calls and over charges your insurance- by billing out of network codes and turning in forms late. My insurance and I have tried several times reaching out to Dr. Schotts office with no avail ! Plus - he sees you for five seconds and then does a drug swab and sends it off to an out of network DNA lab! Even though he never gives u medication and you see some student / intern ! This place moves people in and out like cattle. The girls at the front desk are so unattentive and rude. They have you sit for an hour prior to your appointment and then Dr. Tsay, the doctor, comes in and talks to you for 30 seconds. I felt no personal treatment- very routine. Did not care for this place- seemed to only care about money and not patients. read more
