This poor review has nothing to do with the medical care at AOA, but reflects the poor office staff procedures. We were contacted two months ago and told that my mother had overpaid by $300 and that a check would be mailed to her in 30-40 days. They verified her address. Now it has been over 60 days. I called the office today and was told that it was still being processed, "you know, they have to verify the mailing address, print the checks, and sign the checks, but they are really behind." I cannot imagine that it takes that long to process a check once you already have verification of the mailing address. The office clerk also said that there were many patients in this process. Really? How is that you overcharged so many people? If I owed a payment to AOA, I'm sure I would be penalized if I was more than 60 days late with the payment, but I doubt we will get any interest for AOA holding my mother's money for months. And, State law and Texas Medical Association requires that repayments of overcharges be return within 30 days to the patient. This is very poor office management for AOA. read more

Quite honesty they send you to every doctor they have and order every MRI to get you to spend the most they can. Surgery was terrible and nurse is extremely rude when you have a question read more

I have seen Doctor Roberts for years, mostly for knee pain. He is patient and takes the time to listen to you. He does not rush in and out like some doctors do. You can tell he really cares for his patients. His staff is equally helpful and friendly. I would never consider going to any other physician for my orthopedic needs. read more

I like this practice and Dr. Roberts. He is patient and listens to me. He is also conservative with his treatment plans and does not try to pressure me into a lot of surgical procedures. We agreed on trying PRP and seeing if that will provide pain relief and treat the cause of my pain and not the symptoms. His staff are friendly and the nurses and staff who do the PRP treatments are professional and know how to give injections. I have had some painful injections at other providers in the past and the people at AOA know what they are doing. I will keep going here and try to get some relief. read more

This review is primarily about the Doctor... Dr. Westkaemper. The office and the staff @ this location (IRVING) were very nice, however, the lady that scheduled the appointment over the phone should NOT have recommended this particular DR. as he is a hand specialist - and my husbands problem was with his ankle, shin, and lower back. We took the appointment because it was the only one available same day - but we should have requested another Dr. at a different day/time and read more of the reviews. I'm not at all surprised this Dr. was mentioned negatively several times before. Dr. Westkaemper was very short during our visit and seemed rushed, almost like us being there for the issue my husband had was an inconvenience. He was too concerned with personal details instead of the main issue which was the reason for the visit, and made me very uncomfortable. No empathy or bedside manner whatsoever. He had no regard for the referring physicians previous "opinion" as he called it, and reason for the referral - in fact, he downright discredited her and practically implied she was completely wrong (turned out she was exactly right about the lower back issue - per the spine specialist he has since seen - and it is the SI joint!). He was not concerned with my husbands ankle injury in the least and told us to wait another couple weeks before deciding whether or not we wanted an MRI, and if so, to just call back and he would order one for him... but made it seem like the problem would just eventually go away on its own and an MRI would likely be unneccesary. As it turns out - he got an MRI (from another source) and has a grade 3 complete tear of his ATFL! Which should have been addressed MUCH differently, and MUCH sooner! It's not just bruised and swollen - there was much more going on than that. We are VERY DISAPPOINTED and frustrated with the DR. and experience here. This has caused him weeks more pain and suffering unnecessarily and could possibly result in surgery since the injury was not diagnosed properly and handled appropriately in the beginning. His injury has not even begun to heal due to this! DO NOT SEE DR. WESTKAEMPER unless you have something wrong with your hands or wrists and don't have very high expectations. read more

While the medical staff and doctors are great - the front office staff and billing process is lacking. They will not handle any issues at the location you have to call someone else that is not helpful to resolve over pay situation read more

This is going to be a long post. I've visited 2 doctors from here, both in the same location on different dates. My experiences with Dr. Cameron T. Atkinson have been the best with any medical professional in my adult life. While my experience with Dr. Westkaemper was the second worst. This post and rating is solely about my visit with Dr. Atkinson. See my previous post for Westkaemper. OFFICE: I went to AOA for the second time for a visit with Dr. Atkinson for my hand. I got there about 5 minutes early or exactly on time. I was told that I would have to reschedule because I didn't come early enough to fill out new patient paperwork. I was confused by this because: 1) I wasn't told to come early when the appointment was scheduled and 2) I was unaware that new patient documents needed to be completed, since I had been to that exact location before, having seen Dr. Westkaemper. The young lady asked me to hold on and went to speak to her supervisor. Another woman, the supervisor, came out. She said nothing about needing time to fill out the paperwork, but that they try to keep patients with the same doctor. Since, I had seen Dr. Westkaemper, who also does hands, that's who they wanted me to continue to see. I was definitely irritated, but simply explained that Dr. Adkinson was my 1st choice when I picked the AOA group. However, the shoulder pain that I had been experiencing was more prevalent than my hand pain. Hence, the reason I visited Dr. Westkaemper first. She asked me to hold on and came back to let me know that I would be seen. Everyone was very friendly about it. The Tech that did my x-rays was amazing. She explained every single move that she made, or needed me to make to shift my body for the x-rays. Finally, check out was quick and the admin was very friendly. DR. ATKINSON: When I went back the nurse was very friendly and nice. When the Dr. Atkinson came into the room, he was all smiles and had a jovial attitude. He showed me the x-rays and thoroughly explained what he was going on with my hand. He asked what happened and I made some guesses because it had been a while. He recommended surgery and explained why. When I brought up the other issue in my hand. He did some short manual tests to see where the pain was. Aftereards, he was clear that he was unsure what was going on. However, he noted that as a doctor it is important to try and understand the cause for the issue. He gave me several options for next steps to figure out what was going. He advised that the process of elimination was a good option, so we didn't go right into surgery. He said hand surgery could wait, so we can see if the thumb will need it too after all of these steps. He told me what my treatment plan was, gave me a paper with it written down, and told me when he wanted to see me again. All in all it was a great experience because he made me feel like it was imperative that I understand what was going on with my body and the options I had to fix it. I felt like we were a team versus him just telling me what needed to happen. He is a detailed doctor with great bedside manner. My subsequent visits have been just as good. He has been consistent and the staff have been consistent. I would 100% recommend him. read more

I am a medical assistant who works in a clinic that refers patients to this clinic on a regular basis. To be honest there is nothing like seeing what goes on and having a first hand account. Everyone from the front desk, to the back office, the kind xray tech who was extremely gentle with me and Dr. Westkaemper who was honest and straightforward with me was wonderful. I would definitely refer more patients as well as friends and family members to this clinic if need be. read more

"The only issue I had...and it is very minor...my appointment was for 7:30 a.m. I was told to arrive 30 minutes prior to the appointment. I was there around 7:05 a.m. The office was locked. I was not able to get into the office until around 7:40. Having said that...the front office staff was so kind, friendly and welcoming, I did not really mind that I had to wait outside the office for awhile. Perhaps recorded reminders could say something to the effect "if you fill out the online registration, you do NOT need to arrive before your scheduled time". Really a great practice!" read more

AOA is an amazing facility (they actually have 10 locations) and is staffed by incredible physicians. Not only are the doctors highly knowledgable, they also go above and beyond for their patients when it comes to bedside manner. They have every orthopedic subspecialty so no matter what injury you may have, there is a doctor who has been specifically trained in the speciality. If you are not sure which doctor to see, scheduling does a great job at triaging your case to ensure you see the best doctor for your injury. I originally booked an appointment with AOA because they were in my insurance network and I wanted to get a second opinion since another doctor from another clinic was pushing me to get surgery for my broken ankle. The facilities are very clean and modern. I filled out all of my new patient information electronically and had barely finished before being called back to the examination room. The nurse (Heather Griffin) could not have been more empathetic and professional. She examined my ankle, took me back for X-rays and got me settled in to wait for the doctor. The wait time was very short and Dr. Freese immediately gave me a very comfortable feeling. He has a great bedside manner and truly makes one feel that their well being is the most important thing in his life. He did confirm that surgery was recommended and further stated that because my injury had been a couple of weeks before the bone was beginning to fuse together and would need to be rebroken if I didn't do the surgery very soon. From my experience thus far, I elected to have Dr. Freese do the surgery. He cleared his schedule for the following Monday morning to accommodate my needed surgery. The surgery went very well, and I am very happy with the results. The follow up visits have given me the same warm feeling I got on my first visit. For any orthopedic injuries I highly recommend Dr. Freese. You couldn't possibly get better care. And everyone at AOA Irving and at the Arlington hospital where they operated could not have been nicer or more helpful. read more
