All Spiced Up is a true treasure of the Avondale neighborhood. We stopped by the other night for one of their monthly events featuring Italian wines, and it was an absolute delight. The tasting provided a fantastic opportunity to discover a new winery and bring some exquisite bottles back home to share with friends. The owners are the most lovely people, warm and welcoming, making every visit feel special. Their passion for their craft is evident in the carefully curated selection of spices and wines. I love taking a chance on a place and it's everything you thought it would be. I saw signs as I was walking for several locations offering wine tasting while shopping. After I left the cupcake shop, I decided to head over for a taste of moscato. The harmony wine was on pour, the story of the group singing to the vines won me over. The madam who greeted me was very nice and knowledgeable about spices and wines in the shop. Service was amazing and I even caught a buzz. I'll let you go look at the market price,but this place has some for sure deals. There was a longer table in the back, good for remote work. It's more than you know! This is a great place to get spices yes but keep looking, as you might find a local helping locals. Local beers and honeys. Lots of sauces. The staff is very knowledgable on the items they supply. On Wednesday they offer tastings of some of the wines they sale and rubs on various edibles like olives or chicken and even vegetables. Go visit and hopefully the piano lady will be serenading your visit! read more

This place is a hidden gem! They have a great curation of wine, beer, and spices but they are also set up for enjoying your beverages there! We recently went with some friends for wine and cheese. They brought out a nice plate of cheese, olives and such. The owner was very sweet. The intimate setting was great fir drinking wine and beer with friends before heading to dinner. Plus they let you mix and match 6 packs of specialty beers to go. I'll definitely be back! read more

I love this place. I bought spaghetti seasonings, loose tea, truffles and some French bread that was sent in from French Pantry. I absolutely love this store. I live the area as well. The only hard thing is finding a parking spot. Just be patient and don't give up. It's worth the wait. The Owner took me on a tour of the place. So many wonderful spices and things to buy. How did this jewel manage to stay under the radar? Yes, they have spiced -lots and lots of spices, mixes, blends and rubs provisioned in 3-5 use portions...just the right size. BUT.... This is an AMAZING boutique wine shop. Amazing doesn't quite cover it. This shop was built on relationships in the wine industry, decades of experience and a sincere love and respect for wines and the people that appreciate them. I'm so glad that they are under new ownership and they reopened this shop. After brunch next door we strolled down to the shop to see what they had. Martha, one of the owners was working behind the counter and greeted us. Not much has changed since we were here last year. I happened to walk by the salt display had noticed that there were several salts that I've tasted in a local restaurant, the Sriracha salt, the Bonfire smoked salt, and the Black truffle salt. I asked Martha if she knew about this and she said if they are buying it they aren't letting her know that they're from a restaurant. The tastes are similar so I think they are. I also saw a display for Chef Amadeus's spices. Glad they are carrying his stuff. My mother picked up some teas from the back. She loves Oolong and so do I. She and Martha chatted it up about teapots and Martha showed us what she had in the shop. I really liked the pumpkin-shaped one. Thank you James and Martha for keeping this place open! read more

A newcomer to the neighborhood, I was psyched to find the Green Man Gourmet on one of my strolls around the block with my very naughty yet extremely handsome dog Rummy and resolved to make the time to check the place out as soon as bad boy Rums was safely back home. Green Man has a zen, yet kind of funky vibe to it. The decor is soothing and fun all at once. You can get all sorts of spices and salts and even some organic fruits and veggies in the back. What I want to talk about, however, are the loose teas. Delicious teas! I've tried the Pear Caramel (yum), the Wild Blackberry and the organic Lapsang Souchong, which is smoky as smoky can be and is just delicious. Support your local businessguys down on St. Johns and check out the Green Man, it's a nice way to spend some time and cash. read more

AMAZING EXPERIENCE. More than just a shopping experience, Pete spent an hour with us teaching us about salts, cooking, honey,and much more. Refreshing enough to have great customer service but also an impassioned business owner with a wealth of knowledge and love for what he does. The last couple reviews are spot on with my experience. I can't say enough great things about this place and the owner. They just don't have shops like this anymore. Had an incredible experience here- spent over an hour learning about how to cook with the rubs, salts, pasta, olive oil, and of course sampling the Belgian Chocolate, which was the most delicious chocolate I have ever had in my life! Pete's customer service is impeccable. I hope he stays in business a long time. If I were local this would be my go-to shop. Thankfully he said he could ship me any items. The smoked sea salt is amazing, as well as the steak rub. Absolutely cannot wait to get home and cook with this stuff. read more

A husband and wife team run this specialty grocery in the shops of Avondale. This strip of restaurants and boutiques are a gem in Jacksonville and a must visit. I purchased a Jamaican Jerk seasoning blend along with Applewood Smoked Salt. Martha Smith and her partner are quick, and attentive to whatever your needs are. Martha was able to tell me the difference between a cumin seed, caraway seed, and fennel seed. That is a real skill if you ask me. Their inventory includes olive oils, teas, chocolates, vintage and reclaimed cast iron skillets, and more. I definitely recommend looking on their website: greenmangourmet.com or on their Facebook. Their online store is also quite robust. I used the Jamaican Jerk seasoning blend to marinate chicken thighs, wings, and drummettes, and they came out quite successful. read more

A small shop on the strip in Avondale featuring gourmet spices, spice blends, loose leaf tea, local honey, oils, chocolate/truffles, jams, sauces and wine/craft beer... basically heaven for people like me! They have pre-made baskets or you can grab a basket and make your own custom gift basket. This place is ideal for birthday or holiday gifts for the gourmet foodie. The owner was very friendly and helpful. They have a decent sized bottle of truffle oil for $16 which is a steal! I will be back for that and the black truffle salt. read more

This is definitely my new Go-To spot for anything in regards to cooking! I was advised to go here by a good friend of mine who knows I love to cook and have been slowly but surely going natural with everything. She was so excited about it, you would think that she was their mascot! lol It took me awhile because of my busy schedule, but I finally got a free day on my hands and took a leisurely stroll in Avondale until I finally stumbled upon it. The first thing I noticed was how WONDERFUL it smelled...have you ever watched Looney Tunes? Remember when ever Elmer Fudd would try to lure Bugs Bunny out of his hole by placing carrots...carrot cake...carrot pie...anything carrot outside in a trap of some sort, and the aroma of the carrots would take the form of a hand, reach down and pull Bugs out of his hole by the nose, caressing his face, even sometimes planting a big ole kiss? Thats what happened to me lol There are so many different spices and there is also some soothing jazz playing at a pleasant volume through the speakers...I am a fool for good smells and good music, so the moment I stepped through the door I was in love lol The gentleman behind the counter greeted me, shook my hand and asked me what I was looking for. Bonus #2. At the time it was Cream Honey, and 10 minutes later I had tasted a sample of all the different kinds of honey he had in the store, as well as gained alot of Honey Knowledge lol (i didnt realize Honey could be so interesting! lol) He learned that I love to cook and commenced giving me a little tour around the shop, answering any and all questions I had thoroughly and with a quiet confidence. I got to sample just about everything in the store, he even opened up a pack of Macaroons for me because I never had one before, and he wanted to provide my first experience...how hospitable is that?! My expected 10 minute visit turned into a pleasant hour and a half ( because I had no plans and am very inquisitive lol). He really made my day; I love intriguing conversation, food and trying new things...all of my needs were met at one time! Even better is that I found out the gentleman is actually the Owner of the store; it's the only one in existence (which I am sure will change...can't keep such a good thing isolated for too long!). The owner is is super sweet and every employee I have spoken to seem to really know the products that are offered in the store. We have tried a few different teas and spices and all of them have been fresh and excellent. On our last trip in here my husband was looking for those bags that you can brew tea leaves in.
