The teachers and staff are kind, and the new principal, Mr. Redemer, has been very approachable and easy to talk to. Anytime we've had a concern, it's been taken seriously and addressed. No school is perfect, but for our family, the Christ-centered focus and values have made the extra cost worth it.

For Redwood Christian Middle/High School (San Lorenzo)…read more It is selfish of the school to cause so much traffic by only having one entrance in a highly residential area where it causes Buses to be significantly delayed. It is selfish of Redwood Christian to cause major traffic along a major Bus Route that is used by other students at nearby schools. In comparison to other schools, this car system is the worst of the worst. Although a response may be that allowing students to be dropped off at the back entrance near Via Vista/Neilsen will cause disturbance to the residents in that area, at least that door is not part of a major Bus route (93, which is used by many students: Arroyo High School, KIPP Schools, Bay Elementary, Bohannon Middle School, and even more schools further down). Because cars won't move at all on the one-lane street unless they get into your school, it causes the Bus to be stuck there for 5-10 minutes for such a short distance. The negative impact of such delay is a late bus of regularly 10+ minutes, up to 20 minute delay. It is not simply "take an earlier bus" if the school can decrease traffic.

It took me a while to report someone bullying another kid. I tried to talk to my counselor about it, but it took me a while to get an appointment, and they weren't very helpful. Some of the teachers are nice, but some of them weren't the best. Their principal Mr. Hendee was nice the first time I saw him. I can't tell you if he was acting or just actually nice, but he seemed legit. Academically speaking they don't have a lot of extracurriculars. In 8th grade there is a split leadership class, so you can only have it for half the year. In the last semester you go to the high school to see their leadership class. If you have the first semester you can't go. Which can mislead you to knowing information about it. Sports wise they have good teams. One thing is that if you want to try out a new sport here that you have little experience in, don't. The golf coach Mr. Christensen takes a limited amount of kids. The golf coach at Creekside, which is also the golf coach at the high school takes almost all kids who tryout. This is too also them to have practice. He does only take the good people to play, but all to practice. In all I wouldn't recommend this school...

Every school has its issues and qualms, but at the end of the day, the school is solid, the curriculum is sound, and the community is loving. You get what you put in; if you're an involved parent who attends meetings, chats at drop off/pick up, and signs up to be on the boards and play in the CYO sports, you'll feel the incredible sense of the OLG community. If you only drop off and read the emails, you'll feel excluded, and the love will be lacking. Writing a negative review about your and your child's experience is very easy, but you must give a complete and truthful review. Pieces are missing, and no one is a victim in the situation. I love OLG and the foundation that it has built for my children. It's disheartening to see negative reviews that bring down a score for a lovely school whose staff and students work very hard to build a community filled with Truth, Unity, and Love. In the end, experience it for yourself. If interested, please attend the open house or welcome day. All are invited to tour the classes, meet the teachers and staff, talk with other parents, and, most importantly, meet some students. Don't let negative reviews impact your decision without experiencing all of OLG's excellent qualities firsthand.

Within our first few weeks after transferring, my older high school brother was called the N-word by a fellow student. As middle schoolers, my other brother and I had to witness that, while constantly feeling a heavy, quiet hostility from parents who didn't want us to be friends with their kids just because we were among the few Black faces in the room. The students were mostly passive, but the constant microaggressions about my hair and the casual, stereotype-driven biases made it exhausting to just exist there. After George Floyd's murder, the school put on a performance of having conversations about American racism, but it felt empty--they did absolutely nothing to actually protect or support the few Black students they already had. I wouldn't wish the loneliness and anxiety of my time there on anyone. I am profoundly grateful to the few staff members who genuinely cared and tried to protect us after my brother was called a slur. But I fear nothing has truly changed, and I refuse to stay silent while another Black or minority student risks going through the same pain we did. I expect a response to this review, and I am entirely open to a direct dialogue with the superintendent to discuss how the school actually plans to fix this culture.

The people at Alere, coaches and fellow trainees alike, are all very kind and supportive and willing to offer feedback to help you improve your movements (which, as a new white belt, is extremely necessary). Jitsu Has Truly Transformed My Daughter's Confidence…read more Choosing Jitsu for my daughter was intentional. I wanted her to learn how to protect herself -- and if needed, to protect her little sister and her friends. I wanted her to grow up knowing she was strong, aware, and capable. What I didn't realize was how much more this journey would give her. When she first joined, she was shy and uncertain, but everything changed once she stepped onto the mat and into a community that believed in her. Having her best friend there made the experience even more special. They pushed each other, laughed through tough drills, and grew side by side in ways only true teammates can. Now it's been two years and counting, and she's still not sick of it -- not even close. If anything, she loves it more than when she started. That alone tells you they're doing something completely right. One of the biggest takeaways she's held onto is: "Never cry on the mat." And she takes it very literally -- but honestly, it's not a bad thing. For her, it means fight harder, stay focused, and don't give up. We get it... but let's be real, moms are absolutely allowed to cry on the sidelines. As a mom, it still scares me watching her train and compete -- that feeling never truly goes away. But her confidence has grown so strong that she's now the one asking me to sign her up for competitions. Seeing her walk onto the mat with purpose and pride is something I never imagined two years ago. I have to give so much credit to Jorge, Coach Chris, and Coach Brandon. They prepare her for every competition with patience, discipline, and unwavering belief in her. They've helped shape her into a girl who isn't afraid to push herself, challenge herself, and trust her own strength. Because of them, my heart is at ease a little more each time she competes. Jitsu didn't just teach her self-defense -- it opened a whole new world inside her. One filled with courage, growth, friendship, and confidence. Watching her transform has been one of the greatest gifts, and for that, I am endlessly grateful.
