This is my second trip with All Rivers. On this tuna trip my dad and I went on Mark's boat. All I can say is wow. From the minute we walked on his boat(actually even before) Mark was in total control and explained what was going to happen. His main concern was for everyone's safety and that we all had a good time and caught some fish. The waves turned out to be pretty nasty, which wasn't predicted, but Mark pushed hard to get us into some fish and we caught them. Everyone on the boat was happy with the experience from what I could tell. Mark and Sparky were awesome! I haven't done a lot of charter trips, maybe 10. I have never seen a captain and his deckhand work so hard. They were both genuinely concerned that we had a great time and caught some fish. Thank you for a great trip! read more

I wanted to love my fishing experience with All Rivers. I will start by saying my boyfriend fishes at least twice a week competitively and we have been on numerous charter trips. Most of the reviews I read were about Captain Mark but we had Cary. The day started out with the captain being late to pick us up, no big deal things happen. When we boarded the boat, I noticed it was not the boat pictured on the website. The captain did not ask our names, so we introduced ourselves to the other couple on board. I expected a safety briefing or at least tell us where the life jackets were on board but nothing of the sort was mentioned. Instead he had us fill out the fishing license and away we went. Our captain was very confident in his abilities and made sure to mention his skills regularly. We caught our first fish within minutes at our first stop, this got me excited! Well, that would be the only salmon we brought on board the whole trip, bummer! We trolled around that area for around an hour without another bite. The Captain called his friend to discuss other locations and decided we should move. The weather was really cold, so I assumed that was why the fishing was slow. At the new location, we caught a few flounder and a shark. A King Salmon was caught but he refused to net the fish so we couldn't see it. All of the other fish kept getting off the hook. The charter boats surrounding us were catching King Salmon quite frequently, so we sat on our boat and watched their excitement. After hours of trolling, he finally decided to try the "Mooching" technique. *Remember, I have been on charters before* The way he instructed us to Mooch was not how I had learned in the past but I gave it a chance, no luck! Captain Cary could have been more aggressive with keeping us on fish. We stayed in two spots 95% of the trip and seemed to always be two steps behind the fish. Our third location, he gave us 30 minutes and then the trip would be over. There were more fish but we didn't have any luck. I really wanted to enjoy this trip but our captain I guess wasn't as good as Mark, I will never know. One keeper for four people fishing was a big let down :( Pro: Merry is amazing and great at answering questions. We were paired with a fun couple so at least we had people to talk with. We got to see porpoise and interacted with a friendly seal. read more

My son and I were able to join on a great last minute deal. I have seen other reviews on other sites for Mark and all were favorable. My son and I were recently on another charter service and had a less than stellar trip. We met Mark and his wife, Mary at the dock at 5:30 am. After the other guests arrived, we were quickly on our way for our combo halibut / ling cod trip in the gorgeous San Juan Islands. Weather wasn't the best, but the boat is very comfortable and safe. No halibut cooperated so we changed gears and headed out for greenlings for some live bait for ling cod. What a blast! Mark knew right where to go and we had a blast catching all kinds of rock fish (which were safely released) and a pile of greenling. Plus two of our group picked up really nice lings in that area. Picked up the gear and headed deeper into the islands. Weather cleared up, sun came out and fish were cooperative! Everyone managed to boat their own lings on this trip! Mike, our deckhand, was a great guy and kept everyone fishing. If you are looking for a great charter service, I can't recommend Mark enough. We usually take 3-5 trips a year and this one was the best. He introduced everyone to each other on the boat and by the end of the trip, it was like fishing with friends. Plus, the scenery of the San Juans can't be beat. Tons of seals and their pups, eagles, birds and some porpoise. Didn't see any whales this trip but usually run into them. The best!! read more

All Rivers and Saltwater is the best charter operation in all of Washington. Their name says it all. I have had many experiences with other charter operations through out the years and I keep coming back to these guys. All their equipment and boats are top of the line and in great condition. When Mark first started doing trips out of Westport for Tuna a couple of years ago I decided to give it a try. All I can say is wow! Watch out if you have never been live bait tuna fishing, because it will ruin your life! It will make you want to sell you house, divorce your wife and spend all your money chasing albacore. It is one of the best fisheries in all of Washington. The crew is very accommodating and all are very personable. Whether you are a seasoned fisherman or it's your first time out fishing, they are there to support you in whatever way they can. One word of caution. If you do go out fishing in the ocean and you are not sure if you will get sea sick, go to your doctor and get the sea sickness patches. Dramamine wont cut it. I have seen many many people who have spent their whole trip puking... not fun. It is well worth a Dr. visit if you are not sure. I highly recommend All Rivers and Saltwater to anyone who is interested in fishing in Washington. These guys and gal (don't want to forget Merry) are as good as it gets. read more

My family and I took a charter with Mark and Luke this past Sunday and had an absolute blast! Not only was the fishing great (Mark knew exactly where to take us), but they were friendly and great at teaching us newbies on how to fish for tuna and work as a team. I would definitely recommend them. Warning: if you get seasick easily or are claustrophobic, the all-day tuna trip is probably not for you. My dad had been out with Ian a couple times and we finally were able to take a trip together with Mark. It was a hot and cold day as far as the fishing, but Mark stayed determined to find the fish all day long. The boats and gear are top notch. This was my first experience with doing a fishing charter, I've always wanted to do a tuna trip so I booked it. We had a bit of weather to deal with, but not terrible. After a 2+ hr run out to the grounds in rough water we start to troll. After hours of this one would think that with a service with at least four boats in the same general area they would help one another find some fish. Pretty sure the deck hand took a little nap behind the live well at one point, rather than switching gear or trying something different maybe. I know there's no guarantee on a fishing trip but I expected to at least see a tuna for 425$. They advertise a "dry" ride outside the cabin, yeah that wasn't my experience. read more

I've been out with Mark on two occasions; once for salmon and once for lingcod, both in the Puget Sound. On both trips, he and his deckhand were both super friendly and did all the "real" work, while the rest of us got to enjoy the "fishing" part of it. If the fish weren't biting in one spot, he didn't waste any time in jumping to another. Mark is determined for the trip to be a success, and will show you exactly what you need to do, so all you first-timers will feel totally comfortable here. I really wanted to enjoy my trip with all rivers but it was made difficult to do so. So I'll start it off with the captain and deck hand. Neither of them were overly friendly or a big ball of fun to talk to.... captain knew how to drive the boat well, we were in some pretty rough water and he seemed to know what he was doing. We went out tuna fishing, and did not catch a single fish all day. I've been skunked many times before, so I wasn't terribly upset, but come on, your spending over 400 a person, you think they could at least put the boat on a fish. So we come back in, no fish in the boat, and we run out of fuel about five miles from the marina. And now we are drifting back out. Finally someone brings us some fuel, and we get back and now have to wait in the boat while they pump 305 gallons. At this point all of us just wanted off the boat. All in all it was a pretty terrible experience with all rivers and will be looking at other options for tuna fishing in the near future! read more

I used this Company last month (October 2014) for a Humptulips fishing trip. The Co. was good, but the guide, Mike Ainsworth was GREAT!. I have fished with enough guides to recognize those who are going through the motions and those who really love what they are doing. Firstly, Mike is "sick" about fishing in a "good way". Secondly, he is a good steward of the river and went beyond any other guide I have been with and cleaned/bagged our fish without even asking. The weather was not great, and it took a while for the fishing to pick up, but we had a great day. Of note, I took an old buddy as a 50th B-day present for the trip; he is not a hardcore fisherman, but thought Mike did an amazing job. Why only 4/5 stars, you ask? Only because my jokes are better than Mike's and i hope that he further amazes me next time we go out. Which I plan; definitely. Bring lots of tip money for this guy--he will earn it. Robert H.
