I asked a friend to ship it from Vegas to San Diego, mistakenly assuming she would put it in its original packaging like I had requested. It was only a few months old. A new baby. After paying for the shipping and extra for her time I get my baby in a used USPS box - no padding. For some reason a can of open caramel covered macadamia nuts was tossed in the box - it wasn't opened per se when it was put in but it exploded in the shipping process getting a sticky sugary nightmare all over the innards of my tower as August in Vegas shipping causes sweet things to melt. Imagine the largest facepalm in the world! I first let my friend try to fix what he called the Mercedes of towers. It wasn't name brand, just custom built for a graphic designers needs. Well, he got it to where it turned on... I needed a professional, on a budget. I called around, everybody was asking $400 and at least a 7 day wait. Then I called Selectronic - which I should of called first but I was skeptical of the sketchy Midway location. I was quoted less than half the price. I just wanted everything wiped and back to 0. Not a lot to ask for, I don't understand why it would cost so much at other places. I didn't care if anything were saved, that's what an external hard drive is for. I took in my beaten up baby, and instantly loved everybody there. 2 people who just like what they do. I had daily updates on my tower and got it back in a few days. I did take it back a few weeks later for "user error" reasons. They kindly took care of my issue with no charge. #awesome Recently, have had issues with my external hard drives - they were able to help me get valuable art work back. What a lifesaver! Brought my PS5 in for a persistent crashing issue that they said they had experience repairing…read more What followed was multiple trips back to the store over roughly two weeks. Not only did they fail to fix the original problem, the console came back in worse condition after their work. At one point it was completely unusable. Each time I brought up a new problem that had appeared after their repair, they refused to take responsibility and suggested it must have already been that way. Somehow, though, they would take the console into the back, tinker with it and get that particular issue working again, only for another problem to surface. After multiple visits, lengthy arguments and failed attempts to simply return my console to the condition it was in when I originally brought it to them, the owner/manager essentially decided they couldn't have caused any of the problems because they've "fixed hundreds of consoles." He refunded my original payment, told me not to come back and said to take any further issues up with corporate. They also repeatedly tried to insist that my original crashing problem was software-related rather than acknowledge that they simply couldn't diagnose or repair it. I ultimately took the console to a different repair shop. They determined that the crashing issue was, in fact, hardware-related and also found stressed/frayed ribbon cables inside the console. One of those damaged cables was causing my optical drive to malfunction. After replacing the damaged cable, the drive works perfectly again and the console is finally back to the functional condition it was in before I brought it to uBreakiFix. While I can't speak for every uBreakiFix location, I would absolutely avoid the Midway Dr. San Diego store for anything requiring more care or technical skill than a straightforward repair. I'd give zero stars if Google allowed it. And after the conversations I had with Sayed, I fully expect a circular explanation below about how none of this could possibly have been their responsibility.

Their turnaround time was impressively quick. I worked primarily with Fred, and he did a fantastic job. He called me multiple times to update me on how the process was going, and also responded by email to my many questions. The process was relatively painless (no one wants to pay upwards of $1000 for an avoidable calamity, but that's not their fault). They have the process streamlined, so you will only have to click a few links to agree to their terms, and they are very responsive by email/phone if you have questions/concerns. I got the results of my diagnostic back 48 hours after dropoff, and my data back 7 days after dropoff, which is a pretty quick turnaround considering this counts a day for shipping the drive to their lab. The other places I checked with told me it would be 2-3 weeks. Getting your data back is expensive. It cost me $1200 to recover 2 GB of data from a thumb drive. The advantage of SDRS is that they will charge you $0 if they cannot recover your data and will also do the diagnostic for free, whereas other places will charge you $200 or more just for the attempt. This means that SDRS has to charge more for successful recoveries to absorb the cost of failed attempts (although it seems there are not many of these), and to pay for the free diagnostics they are doing. Ultimately I was happy with my choice.

The data was stuff that would be difficult to duplicate and if I did try to do that, it would literally take many 40-hour weeks to do so. I contacted Secure Data Recovery Services based on a recommendation from a friend who is VP of tech at his company. So, when calling the company, Alec Sakenes picked up my call and he was fantastic through the whole process. He explained everything to me in detail so that there would be no surprises. He walked me through the process and it was rather simple. Most of what we did was online via e-mail and Internet and it worked out very well. Alec was extremely responsiveness and was always a step ahead of me - checking in to let me know what was going on and making sure that everything was going okay. They were able to retrieve all of my data which was crazy. That was the good part - the not so good part was the fee for the recovery. But, after hearing from my friend what goes into a recovery, the fact that they were able to do so and do a thorough job was impressive. In the end, I opted to pay the fee to obtain my data. There comes a mini vacation we were planning but I have all of my data and I learned a VERY important lesson - back up multiple times and in multiple places!! Thank you, Alec, for such wonderful customer service. You really made me feel like a valued customer and I really like that you explained everything, told it like it was and never pressured me. Overall, the customer service (Alec) and technical assistance was fantastic and extremely professional. I would highly recommend Alec and this company.
