Our experience with Kyle and 4K Pools & Patios was one of the most unprofessional contractor experiences we have ever had. The project was not merely left incomplete--it never even began.
We signed a contract and paid Kyle a $580 deposit. An installation date was scheduled, but that date came and went without anyone showing up. We received no advance warning, no call, no text, and no explanation. We had to track Kyle down ourselves after the missed installation.
Only after we contacted him did Kyle tell us that the manufacturer was having trouble supplying the insulated panels. He admitted that he should have contacted us sooner and said he was also experiencing problems on approximately five other jobs. He then gave us another assurance that the materials would be available shortly--but, once again, we had to keep chasing him for information.
This was not one isolated communication failure. Throughout the process, far too much time repeatedly passed without responses or updates. Eventually, Kyle admitted in writing that his communication with us had suffered because he was trying to manage the business while also personally handling installations and fieldwork. He acknowledged that he needed additional help with communication and scheduling and said he took responsibility for not keeping us informed.
By that point, we had lost confidence in him and decided to go in a different direction. Kyle tried to persuade us to stay by offering a $500 discount and promising that he could complete the patio cover the following week. We declined because the problem was no longer just a delay--it was the repeated lack of communication, the missed installation without notice, and the fact that we could not rely on anything he told us.
Then came the "refund."
Despite never beginning construction, delivering materials, or performing any physical work at our home, Kyle deducted $450 from our $580 deposit. His itemized charges were:
$100 for HOA plan preparation
$150 for engineering
$100 for a county permit-submittal trip
$100 for a county permit-cancellation trip
That means he claimed 77.6% of our deposit as "incurred costs" on a project that never even started, leaving only $130 to be refunded.
Even worse, he still has not paid the $130 refund shown on his own written refund summary. After weeks of waiting and additional unanswered follow-up messages--including another written demand for the refund--Kyle went dark again.
His refund graphic prominently advertises "Quality Work," "Honest Communication," and "American Values." Our actual experience was no work, consistently poor communication, a missed installation without notice, $450 in disputed charges, and a promised $130 refund that was never paid.
We have done everything reasonably possible to resolve this directly. At this point, 4K Pools & Patios has our entire $580 deposit, never began the project, and has not even returned the small refund Kyle's own document says we are owed.
I would never recommend Kyle or 4K Pools & Patios to anyone. If you are considering hiring this company, document every communication, scrutinize every charge, and think very carefully before paying a deposit. Based on our experience, Kyle was unreliable, non-responsive, disorganized, and completely unprofessional. Buyer beware.
