It was hard to find an activity that would take my daughter at 3 years old when she started. She knew nothing about gymnastics and she never really associated with other children besides family. Been with this gym for about a year and I can't tell you how much my daughter has grown. We tried out the afternoon classes on a weekday but noticed that it was interfering with my daughters nap time and had to make a switch. The coaches and staff were very accommodating and they helped my daughter even on days that she just cried during practice. I wanted to so badly just pull her out and go home, but the coaches made sure that she knew she had to practice and was so patient and just sat with her throughout practice. My daughter is starting kindergarten in August so we decided take her out. We were sad, but we know that another child gets to take her spot and is going to learn so much and make a lot of friends like our daughter did! Best decision was made when she joined Island Tumblers!

They are short staff and I believe the owner is training some of the classes and she is horrible! She made my daughter cry while doing stretches in the beginning of class? We're currently in our second year of cheer and she almost has her back handspring and is learning to be a flyer on their junior team. I love picking her up from cheerleading and hearing her excitedly tell us all about her practice time. Pros: -Top level, quality instruction. I WISH I could have gone to this cheer gym when I was in high school. They're really stringent about technique and won't allow you to progress onto a new skill until you have foundational skills in place. Tumbling this year has been split by skill level so there's more time to practice and improve. Coaches expect a lot out of the teams but I believe they're always fair and I'm really happy they're not easy during practice. -The teams are awesome and they really improve exponentially from the start to the end of the season. Last year our daughter wasn't on a travel team and I'm really looking forward to seeing her compete at a national competition. It's not only improved her physical skills as an athlete, but it's given her a different level of confidence that can only be gained through hard work and tenacity. -Island Elite is located in town. There are other all-star gyms but I don't want to have to fight through traffic to get there. Cons: -Cheer is not a cheap sport like soccer, and monthly tuition for all-star cheer is $200+ a month for three practices a week, plus $30-$60 for tumbling classes. I still totally think it's worth it because you're committing to being the best! In addition to your monthly practice tuition you'll also spend $1000+ on cheer uniforms, choreography and approximately $100-$200 on each competition your team competes in. Currently the all-star teams compete in two local competitions and 1-2 mainland competitions in the Spring. If traveling for cheer is not something you want to do, they also have cheer teams which practice once a week and only do local competitions. I think this is a good alternative if you're unsure of the time and financial commitment. The gym also offer opportunities to fundraise throughout the year. -During our first year of cheer I didn't always feel as though communication was the best, but now that we're on our second year I feel as though we are a lot better equipped in terms of what to expect and what questions to ask. -Island Elite is located in a warehouse that shares the same parking lot as Costco Iwilei. Unfortunately the practice gym is not air conditioned so it gets really hot especially during the Summer months.

Staff are friendly, coaches are good with kids,…read morefacilities are clean, validated parking available, and it's nice for gym to monitor child on bleachers while not interfering with coaching. Only drawback...long waitlist sometimes up to a year. Gym offers camps which we tried and it's a fun day long option to help your kid work off that crazy energy. Kids love the freedom to learn to twist their bodies in acrobatic movements. The ability to fly through the air is pretty magical for a kid. Time spent to help them build confidence, coordination and flexibility is a plus in child development!

It seemed like every few weeks there was someone new. Many of the coaches were very young, and while I have absolutely nothing against their age, I do have a problem with what appeared to be a lack of experience, proper training, and concern for the children's safety. The kids are pushed incredibly hard, sometimes beyond what I believe is safe. My daughter has been dealing with injuries for nearly a year, and we are still trying to get her healed. A recent MRI revealed multiple sprains, including older injuries. I strongly believe these injuries are a result of the training and lack of proper supervision she experienced here. As a parent, it is heartbreaking to watch your child go through this, especially when you trusted a facility to help them grow, learn, and stay safe. What makes this even more frustrating is that the facility seems to put so much time, effort, and attention into its competitive teams, while the children attending regular recreational classes don't seem to receive that same level of care or quality coaching. From my experience, it felt like the recreational program was more about collecting tuition than genuinely investing in the children. In the entire 2 1/2 years my daughter attended, I can honestly say she had maybe one truly great coach, and unfortunately, that coach was only there for a short period of time. The constant rotation of inexperienced coaches made it nearly impossible for the kids to have consistency or build trust with their instructors. I would never send my child back here, and I would strongly caution other parents to really look into this facility before enrolling their children. When you're trusting someone with your child's physical safety and well-being, you should be able to expect experienced coaches, proper supervision, and a genuine commitment to every child, not just the competitive athletes. No child should have to spend a year recovering from injuries when they were simply supposed to be learning, growing, and enjoying a sport.

Well, a few days ago........I was at the opera, then the next thing you know, I am at a UH WARRIOR FOOTBALL game! Let me tell you guys...........going to football game is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than going to the Opera! Lol! And let me tell you why! 1. You gotta love the electricity in the air of a football game! Loyal fans of Warrior football will come out regardless if they win or lose.............. 2. The tailgating, fellowship, & friendships............. 3. The various food vendors that serve their expensive, but sometimes tasty food. 4. The great half time show provided by the University of Hawaii band, and the funny games which they pick a few people from the audience to participate in. 5. And last of all, I had the privilege of sitting in the band section because of my Yelp buddy - Jules Y.! Man! I don't know how it can get any better then that, as I got to hang out with some fun college kids (they small kine Kolohe!) making me feel young like a college kid again! What a fun college atmosphere!!!! The only down side about sitting with the band was that they do no allow alcohol...... :( BOO! I didn't know this, as when I got to the seating area, I heard I had to get rid of my beer. So to get rid of of it, I started to tank/chug it down (btw, that was one of my specialties in college), because hell no if I was gonna dump my $8.50 beer! Lol! Well, we know what happened last night at the Homecoming game..........wished the outcome was the other way around, but you know what...........da boyz played hard, and sometimes no can help! I moved all the way from Austin, Texas to take this position in Kaneohe, Hawaii, for a couple reasons: 1. The staff at Kokokahi is wonderful. Even during my first visit to the gym, every coach and employee made me feel welcomed and appreciated, and went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. The staff has an incredible dynamic that is fun, respectful, communicative, and positive. It makes for a stellar work environment. 2. The families and gymnasts at Kokokahi are something special. The parents are just as kind and generous, and go out of their way to help the gym and each team in any and every way possible. Koko is truly lucky to be supported by such incredible people. I am so excited to join the Koko Ohana, and have so much passion and love for gymnastics and these girls. My toddler attended the 2.5-year-old (youngest) class for about seven sessions. By the fourth…read moreclass, she was already telling me she was bored and wanted to go home. Each session begins with a short two-minute warm-up song--usually "Freeze Dance" from YouTube--after which the class shifts to free play with parent supervision. The setup includes a platform to jump into a foam pit, a long trampoline, large foam blocks to climb and slide on, and occasionally a child-height balance beam or bar. There's also plenty of open mat space for rolling, running, and general movement. The coach mostly walks around saying hello to parents, but unfortunately doesn't interact much with the kids. I understand that it's a tough age--two-year-olds don't follow directions well--so I get that the class leans heavily on open play. Still, it feels like something's missing. The right coach with the right energy can really engage kids at this age, but I felt like I had to be that energy just to keep my daughter even slightly interested. This is a good short-term class--maybe for a month--if you just need something for your kiddo to do. But in my experience, most kids in our class started losing interest by the 20-minute mark. I've heard the 3-year-old class is more structured, so I may give that a try instead. They do offer one free trial class, so definitely take advantage of that!

The University of Hawaii has produced many outstanding athletes and provided local residents with hours of entertainment! I was more up to date on volleyball when the coach was Mike Wilton. Those were crazy, fun times when fans would be dancing in the aisles, doing the Wave, holding up signs for their favorite players, bringing lei and goodies for the teams, and playing creative half-time games! The players who stood out the most for me were Aaron Wilton (son of the Coach), Jason Ring, and Yuval Katz, Sivan Leoni, and Naveh Milo (the three Israelis). Those players and a few other guys were so popular that they had to hide in laundry carts to leave the arena! They were Rock Stars! The Stan Sheriff Center would be sold out and the parking lot would be full! I don't know why the hype died down. I haven't been to a game in a long time until this season. My cousin's son, Kupono Fey, is a senior this year. I've been to the first two games of the year - he and the team have not disappointed. As an outside hitter, Kupono has set, dug, served, killed, and blocked so well! Likewise, I tried cancelling multiple times as they had a 30-day cancel policy only to be told I hadn't cancelled. Now I realize that its because so many parents before me have been unhappy hence their need to make so many one-sided policies. If they provided a good service they wouldn't need to entrap you or your kids, because they would have enough new students looking to enroll. As they said themselves "If you're unhappy with our policies, there's several other gyms on island you could check out to see if their policies better align with your needs." Better to go elsewhere.
