After a morning touring the nearby Gallerie dell'Accademia to see "David" and other great works of art, we needed to refuel and this local iconic chain seemed like a great choice. We queued up with a small-ish line of other anxious diners and waited our turn to place an order at the deli counter. All the ingredients looked fresh and we settled on splitting the La Flavolosa sandwich...a combo of salami, cream of pecorino cheese, cream of artichokes and topped with spicy eggplants. We found a nearby bench and dug in. I wouldn't say the sandwich was spicy, but it did have a little bit of a kick. The combination of creamed cheese and creamed artichokes made for an overly creamy mix (maybe less of each would have been better?), but the sandwich was tasty nonetheless.

Apparently this is a newer location just outside Piazza San Marco. Nonetheless the line here is strong. It's very popular with the local youth and you can see people sitting on the curbs on the Piazza and on the street across just munching on their sandwiches. The sandwiches here are all great - scanning the QR code there's quite an expansive menu and for a visitor it's hard to decide. The space inside is tight but you still get the sights of the delectable assorted ingredients in the case, hanging on the ceiling, and the bustle of the employees cutting up sandwiches to perfection. My complaint though is that the sandwiches are way too big. I'd pay half to have a sandwich half the size (or maybe get two sandwiches so I can try different things). The bread was so nice and crisp but because the sandwich was so big I actually got pretty tired chewing it...and it also explains all the pigeons just waiting to help you finish what you decide to discard!

Great sandwich shop next to the Galleria della Academie. Lines can get long because the focaccia bread is baked fresh. Really, the bread just comes out of their oven hot. They cut it in sections & fill it with crema (very soft cheese) and sliced meats. Some of them come with arugula, which cuts into the richness of the meat. I can recommend all of the sandwiches & at 7-10€ it can feed two easily.

There's been a lot of talk about this place so it was the first thing we tried in Florence. There is an indoor seating area in the store as well as a to go order section. Seeing all the cured meat on display was very cool. The service was fast and the food was great. Loved the crisp bread and the flavorful meats and sauce.

We had this sandwich shop in our bucket list and was lucky enough to have found it while walking around lost in Florence. Additionally there were no lines so it was a perfect timing! Deciding on which All'antico Vinaio sandwich to order was a monumental feat of restraint, so narrowing our choices to two was a concentrated effort. We ordered the LA QUARANTENA (Roast suckling pig, Gorgonzola and cream of pistachio) and the LA MANOLO (Cooked ham, cream of mushroom, fior di latte mozzarella cheese and basil). These sandwiches are huge! It took us three days to finish both but let me say they remained absolutely delicious even days later! The bread was especially good warm, and it soaked up all the flavours from the generous fillings. The meats used was juicy and flavorful and that pistachio cream was a knockout. Between the two we ordered, the La Quarantena was the clear winner. So when in Florence, be sure to check out and try this famous and most highly reviewed sandwich shop, it's definitely worth the vidit!

November 9, 2024 2:30PM…read more It does appear they have two stalls on the same street that you can order from. One side seemed to have more alcohol on display and the side I was on was more sandwich focused, but I'm pretty sure you can order the same things from both windows. Initially I was going to get the 21 - Fresh Sausage and Eggplant because I'm an eggplant lover... the lady at the counter was kind enough to let me know that the fresh sausage is actually rare, uncooked sausage and gave me a small piece to try. I was getting ready to get on a train that day and didn't want something that might not sit well with me, so I moved on to number 27 spicy salami and cream cheese. My partner got the number 1, ham, cream cheese and rocket salad. Both are very good sized and oh so delicious. The line moved quickly, so many options for decision paralysis. This is the place for schiacciate Florentine as recommended from friends who used to live here. Definitely would recommend to study up their menu before coming so it's easier to pick what you want. This is more of a stall and you grab and go, we stood around the sidewalk and inhaled our sandwiches. Watch out for the pigeons getting ready to take your crumbs too, you can see them on the ledge of the building getting ready to attack. A must visit for Florence.

Racist owner randomly took my table and chair while I was eating on it to give to a Caucasian European couple. l'm an Asian female by the way. I showed him that my boyfriend was waiting in line to purchase food and constantly assured him we were using them and that we were buying food. He still took my table and chair and said I'll give you another one- to which it down graded to eating off 3 short chairs. I told the European couple that it wasn't fair that the server took our table to give to them and they just smiled and dismissed me. Racism at its finest. Their sandwich is not good. Actually the sandwich shop across the street I' Grone De Ghiotti is way better with service and sandwich taste. Sadly I don't think this post will change the attitude of the owner.

You walk into this tiny little sandwich shop and you better be ready to order immediately. First came the bread selection, then the meat, then the cheese. Pointing at things seemed to work best for me. I managed to say "Italian bread" while pointing to the top shelf, and when I pointed at the meat I asked, "That's pork, okay?" Deep breath... good start. Then they asked me about cheese. Hold on now, I'm still mentally processing my bread choices -- I'm not prepared for this speed-ordering competition. I finally said, "Whatever your best seller is," and they slapped on some kind of white cheese that I still cannot identify. Last step: toppings. The lady behind the counter pointed at something green and said, "This goes well with pork." I said, "Hit it." Finally, ordering complete. I grabbed my drink, paid the old man at the door who was running the whole operation with grace and happiness, and found the only outside seat available. Good timing too, because halfway through my panini the line was 10+ deep. That first bite was fantastic. The crunch and crumble of the bread somehow lasted all the way to the final bite. I added tomatoes, and the green stuff had this sweet flavor with a hint of dill. Whatever it was... it worked. This panini absolutely lived up to the Yelp hype. And to the old man running the place -- you do good work. Don't overwork yourself.
