My experience was the same as with some of the other reviews: waste of time. After they came for a visit, Duke / Alki Fence were unreliable: it took weeks and multiple reminders from me to even get the quote. Once I got the quote, I had some follow-up questions to discuss, and as of today -about a month later after I started calling and emailing them- I still have not received an answer. If they are too busy or don't want the job, they should tell you upfront. Waste of time. read more

Interesting result. Alki made a beautiful fence for us in Renton WA. On time, quick to reply with a quote, etc. Called them again to make a fence for us when we moved by Maple Valley. Came over on time, surveyed the job, got the estimate quickly and did a fantastic job Called them again for a fence replacement and a repair again near Maple Valley. (different area on property) they came on time, was told I would gat a quote the next day. I heard nothing back. After a week, I sent an email. A few days later I sent a text, and then a few days later I made a phone call and left a voicemail. I heard nothing back. Totally unprofessional. How hard is it to let the customer know they don't want to bid on the job? Confusion since I had hired them twice before. After talking to my son, they came to look at a small job he had. He had the same experience with this company. He also made several messages asking for a bid. In the end, they agreed to come and do the small job for him. This is the second time we've used Alki Fence. I'd use them again. They charged a fair price, were on time, and did a good job on replacing the wood gate with a chain link one. We contacted Duke at Alki Fence to repair some of our chain link fence. We moved to Ravensdale a little over a year ago and more than 1 acre of our 5 acre property was fenced with chain link. There were quite a few places where the fence required repair, either bent top rails or leaning posts and also 2 of the gates needed repair and replacement. I should have read the reviews here before I contacted Alki Fence. They were 40 mins late for the site visit. And after the visit, they promised they would send me the quote the next day, while they didn't. I called them several times in 10 days asking for the quote. Alki fence had the best price by far, easy to talk to and connect but you get what you pay for...I had them come back within the 1 year warranty to try and fix things but they really did a crap job on my chainlink fence. The slats that go in between the chain link were all different sizes and cut weird to fit in places and they still slided down and look horrible in certain areas. The gates are lopsided, slats coming out not staying in place. I think thats why they didn't put thier logo on my fence. 3 years later, Im looking for somone to repair the concrete as fence is leaning and concrete needs to be redone. Not sure why Duke allowed these guys to put my fence together while he was out of town, very dissapointed. He came back and tried to make adjustments but he really needed to take down and re-do but of course that wouldnt happen because he would lose money. These photos are from 3 years ago. Much worse now as fence is leaning, slats still slipping down and uneven in several places. Better than nothing but I would rather have paid 3k-5k more and had it done right the 1st time or at least goid for another 10-20 years. I am installing some trees and was told I need to repair fence before installation. I will call Alki and see if they will repair concrete for free or small fee and give update on this company but honestly would not recommend! read more

Ignore the old reviews! Duke responded quickly whenever I called, I set an appointment for the following day for a quote and he came by after finishing up with another customer. The quote was very reasonable, we had a quote for $200 less but that company didn't show up for 8 weeks, Alki Fence was on site 10 days after confirming the project with me, and the crew turned up a little early. Duke responded to any phone enquiries promptly, it's always best to call his cell. He was friendly, professional, and efficient. The fence looks great, it was replaced and built in a day. They are the WORST at communicating. Came out, sent me a quote which took 10 days, they needed to come back to check something that they missed, never returned my calls, texts or emails. If they would of responded I would of gone with them as their quote was middle of the road, and the quality from the other neighbors is decent. To bad they can't follow through. Based on the other reviews I read and an older estimate from the folks I'd used to replace my backyard fence a couple years ago, I decided to give Alki a call about fencing in the (large) front yard of my (not very large) corner lot; I was suspicious that all I'd seen were glowing reviews that mentioned how much cheaper they were. Duke came out to do an estimate the next day for a 4' hurricane fence with three gates, we went over options, and he quoted a price that was a little over half what the other guys has suggested. I was really sceptical, but after thinking about it for a couple weeks I called to schedule the installation; they said they could start in a week and a half and that it would take two days. Day one, a Friday, arrived, and the installers were early. They spent an hour measuring the site and planning the job, then confirmed with me in pretty serious detail about whether their plans matched up with what I wanted. When I gave the go ahead, they got down to work trimming back two trees and digging post holes, and were done installing the fence posts by early afternoon. Day two, a Saturday, got me a call from Duke -- the weather had been rainy the day before and was still pretty damp, and he was worried that the concrete hadn't had enough time to set, and so he was rescheduling the rest of the work to Monday. I was cranky, since I'd been looking forward to the fence pretty hard, but decided he was probably right. And it's just as well -- late Sunday night a drunk driver plowed through the yard and tore down a few of the fence posts and ran into a retaining wall. Ouch. Day two take two, the installers arrived and gaped at the damage, then set to work, replacing the broken/missing poles and attaching the fence and gates, with a warning to not use the driveway gate for a day or two since some of the poles around it had been re-installed. Again, they were done by afternoon, and the fence looked freaking outstanding. There were a couple metal bits left, some cut-off fence post tops and one wire wrap, but nothing horrible; they'd left some wire wrap material in the lock holes in the gates for us as well. Our dogs probably love the new fence more than we do: after sniffing the hell out of it, they sent fifteen minutes running around like cracked-out six year olds. Awesome. Duke came by the next day to give me the damage -- exactly what he'd estimated, plus just $50, not a lot over the cost of materials, to replace the damaged poles. He also asked if he could put up a (tiny) Alki Fence sign on the fence for advertising. Hells yeah, Duke. Hells yeah. The fence looks great, our dogs can run around in something bigger than our tiny cramped backyard, and we can lock the neighbour kids out so they don't leave trash in our yard and sled down our yard when it snows. I have drooled over my fair share of home improvement show on HGTV. I have ooOOOooo and awwwWeee when they make dramatic transformations by just painting a few walls and making a plywood bookshelf. But I have to say I have never experienced a transformation quite like our new fence by Alki fence. Our new fence has extended the usable boundaries of our home and I love it. It is so beautiful, well constructed and completely utterly functional. Alki fence did a fabulous job and they were the most affordable estimate out of all the fence companies we looked at. We had originally thought that we might build our own fence but after seeing Alki fence putting up our fence, I was so thankful we decided to hire professionals. They built our fence with details and preciseness that we would of struggled over. Now it is perfect, done and ready to enjoy. Money well spent in my opinion. Update: I am a little upset that they left nails everywhere in our lawn. We have pets and I am so afraid that one of them get one in their paw. First off the receptionist spoke awful english and Im not sure she understood everything I was saying to her. My 3:00 appointment never showed, only to tell me "oh we meant "between" 3-4 which I never would have said okay to. So Duke called around 3:35 and I drove back to the site. He seemed a bit uninterested in what we were saying, wrote some stuff down and said he would get us a bid by tomorrow. That was FIVE days ago. They showed up on time for my July 8 appointment, and said they would get an estimate for me in 1-2 days. After I received nothing, I called on the 13th, asking for the estimate, and left a message with the lady that answered. And I did the same thing every few days, verifying that they had the right email address and phone number, asking for an estimate, and all I was able to do was leave a message each time. I finally gave up last week. I wouldn't want to hire anyone that I have to chase down for answers. read more

My driveway gate was pretty old and after all the winter storms it was time to be replaced. Alki Fence was the second place I called and they came in far lower than the first estimate I had. Estimate on Saturday, work done on Wednesday morning, gate is perfect. I did dock one star because the cleanup was not great, including several nails left in my driveway on either side of the gate, not great for doggy feet or tires. I am happy with the work and will have Alki Fence replace my entire fence when I can afford it! Great price, great work. read more

Did not even have a chance to give them a chance. The representative was supposed to be out on April 11th between 11-12pm. He called that morn and said it would be 6pm. He called at6:20pm and would not be out. Could not come again until the 16th in the afternoon. we asked to have it moved to between 5-6 pm. i needed a fence for my backyard. well, the main reason i went with these guys was the great reviews here. i will not be recommending them to ANYONE. pros: 1. Duke showed up on time to give the estimate 2. he came back a few days later to sit down with me and finalize a design plan 3. his bid came in way below the competition, by almost half cons: 1. the posts were set in huge, ugly mounds of concrete that i had to have them come back and chip away at to make them less hideously huge (i held onto their payment until they did that) 2. when they stained the fence they also stained the concrete, the gate hardware, the plants, the grass... 3. my backyard terrain is uneven and there are large enough gaps along the bottom for squirrels and a neighborhood cat to get under it and into my yard, as well as for my dog to have a head start to dig his way out so now i have to go and staple chicken wire all along the bottom, cover the gaps with something, and figure out a way to keep anything from getting in (and OUT) of my goddamn new fence!!! read more

On the plus side, Alki Fence was the only one of 4 or 5 places I called that actually came out to my house and gave a bid for my fence. Most didn't even return my call or didn't want a "small" job (a $3000 project is small?), and one other came out but never sent a bid. The work they did was ok. They installed cable railing on my deck but left some hammer marks on the wood. Within a few months I noticed that 2 of the cable railings were installed incorrectly and I couldn't tighten them. They sag and look bad. I called and emailed Alki Fence multiple times and heard nothing back. One or two times the receptionist answered and told me Duke would be out to take a look, but he never stopped by. I emailed Duke directly multiple times over the past year to two years and have heard nothing back. I've had several handymen come out to take a look to see if someone can fix it but they say it is installed incorrectly and to call the company that did it to have them correct the work. I would not hire this company again! read more

I'd give 4 or 5 stars for the fence work. They built a nice fence at a very fair price. However, in the process they wreaked havoc on a lot of landscaping. It's going to cost hundreds of dollars to repair that damage. If I used them again, I'd watch them like a hawk the whole time they were here. read more

I called Alki fence to get an estimate on installing a gate to go with my existing wood fence. They made an appointment in a timely matter and gave me a ridiculously expensive quote. I discussed with them I would touch base with them later in the week if I was gonna go with them because I had another estimate to get. I called them the following Friday and told them thanks for coming out but I was gonna go with my other bid. The following Monday I pulled up to my home to find them set up and starting the job. Really? I immediately told them to pack up and get off my property because I didn't hire them. At this point the man I got the estimate from pulled up in his truck, got out (I can't remember his name an older Asian gentleman) and I confronted him and asked him what the hell was going on I called and told them I was going with somebody else? He proceeded to laugh at me and said they never told him I called to cancel. I was furious!! I told him to pack up and get off my property or I would have them cited for trespassing! I called their office and got their secretary (who barely speaks a lick of English) and told her this was unacceptable and a very poor way to conduct their business. Thank god I came home to find this or I would have refused to pay. I am a woman and home owner but I not stupid and didn't appreciate their poor communication and personally felt as if they were trying to scam me. This was one instance where the decision to go with the lowest bid was the smartest choice. Alki Fence was significantly lower than the nearest bid (we had 3 done; the first two were nearly the same and Alki Fence's was about 20% cheaper). The work was estimated to take two days, but they finished in 1 1/2. The fence is attractive and functional. Everything is cleaned up just fine. AND they didn't charge us extra to prune a couple really big tree branches that were in the way. This new fence should keep our escape-artist dog safely contained. read more

His quote was dramatically less costly then the rest and the project was bidded in total vs piece by piece from some of the others. One Star here. Cant speak for their work, but I can speak for their service. Took a week for them to come out and look at the job. Said they would email a bid the next day. A week later I had to call and ask for the bid. They gave me a Bid and said they would give me an install date the next day. A week later I had to call them for an install date and they gave me one a week out. The install date came and no one showed up or called . two days later I called and cancelled. If it takes them that much time to take your money, How long will it take them to take care of you if there is a problem with the install. read more

We have both the wood fence and the iron gate damaged in an accident. Not a lot companies can do both. Alki Fence gave a very reasonable estimate for both repair work and did the job within the agreed upon time. Their bid came in much lower than other contractors so I decided use them. Their quality of work is not good. They've missed nailing to connect the base boards and rails. I actually had to fix some of them by myself. The wood they've used the deck was not even treated. The materials and quality they've done to my desk is not good. If you are looking for a quality work, I suggest using different contractors even though the cost can be 50% or more than Alki's. read more
