It was nice to have a hotel room an actual ocean view--serene, beautiful sunsets since the hubby and I live in DTLA (view of concrete, office buildings and hotels). We were very happy with our stay at Alila--it was a much needed staycation and was great to get away from Los Angeles for 4 days. The hotel has only been around for a couple of years and I'm sure they are still working out the kinks. We stayed in room 264 (complete view of ocean). There was a huge suite two doors down--that room has the BEST view, but it's super expensive. Loved the hotel vibe--modern and simplistic, Votary bathroom products, great robes, eucalyptus shower, modern amenities, huge flat screen TV, nice size balcony, Nespresso machine and good tea, and quality furniture) Highlights: VAGA restaurant for dinner and breakfast (everything was fresh, delicious and unpretentious.) Amazing service! Casual eats at The Pocket--we had a small lunch there (Husband thought it was one of the best burgers he has ever eaten). The fresh juices were so good-- $12 but worth it. SPA: I had the 80 minute Harmony facial and my husband had the 80 minute Talisman massage. Savannah (front desk and took care of our billing) was so professional, patient and fantastic. It was a wonderful experience for the both of us. I highly recommend taking advantage of their spa services. In terms of the size of the spa, it is on the smaller side when compared to a place like Burke Williams, but the treatment rooms were very inviting and the treatments themselves were OUTSTANDING! HOUSEKEEPING: The staff was so detailed and patient. The Asian Karen came out in me when I requested that our room be cleaned when we returned from the spa, and unfortunately wasn't. There was a wedding that day and I'm sure they had a lot on their plate. I got a personal message from the housekeeping manager, and they had two housekeeping attendants work on the room. I'm so impressed. STAFF: Employees were all really amazing! The front desk person who checked us in was wonderful (I forget her name--I wanted to mention her). There was only one woman I felt was a little aloof/unfriendly who worked at the front desk (Of course I was thinking ... "why isn't she friendly with us but nice to other guests?"-- Asian and Latino gay couple! Yikes! LOL. We had this experience at Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, unfortunately...) I think that was the only negative experience here. Valet is $55 a night and there is a $55 dollar a night resort fee--please take advantage of the pool and beach services, electric bikes and cute shuttle into downtown Encinitas. I bet in a year or two, Encinitas will be up and coming. The new restaurants, cute shops and laid-back vibe made our little excursion worthwhile. I'm very impressed with the Alila "brand". Absolutely terrible experience at Alila Marea. I am beyond disappointed and upset with how my family was treated. We traveled from out of state to visit, and my 25 year old kids --who live locally--were not allowed to use the pool or hot tub simply because they weren't registered hotel guests, even though they were here as our guests. Instead, the staff made us all sit in the guest area, completely ruining our plans to spend quality time together as a family. This is NOT what Encinitas stands for. This community is about family, togetherness, and hospitality--not exclusion and arbitrary rules. Alila Marea's policy is a slap in the face to families and anyone who wants to enjoy Encinitas the way it's meant to be enjoyed. There was no warning when we booked, and the staff showed zero empathy or flexibility. My kids were left feeling unwelcome and singled out, and our entire trip was overshadowed by this ridiculous policy. If you're looking for a family-friendly experience, stay far away from Alila Marea. There are plenty of other places in the area that actually value families and won't leave you feeling embarrassed and angry. I sincerely hope Alila Marea rethinks this exclusionary and unwelcoming approach. This isn't LA. Alila is a joke. read more

The Alila Marea Beach Resort is one of the newest Hyatt properties in Southern California, located on bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Encinitas, California. Like all Alila properties, they focus on the locality and sustainability with an emphasis on highlighting the local community. The property is beautiful. It's modern, sophisticated combined with the laid back coolness of a beach community. It's not a very big property, but like all properties by the beach land is at a premium. The entrance is located right at the intersection of Highway 101 and it's cross street. It's a circular entrance with only valet parking available. (One thing to highlight, the entrance doesn't seem like it was very well thought out as there were many a times upon returning to the property where we saw a log jam into the intersection as the valet made their way through the back up. Once you enter the property, you come into an odd space with a desk located on the right side near the stairs. That's the front desk, but there isn't really a lobby so might become an issue if a lot of people are checking in at once. The front desk staff was friendly and informative. Because of my status with Hyatt, they gave us an opportunity to choose from the available rooms and we chose a Studio King with a coastline view on the first floor, which also includes a fire pit. Aside from the front desk, the spa is located on the same level, but be advised it's a small space and you will only have access to the sauna and lockers, if you are paying for a service. The rest of the property is pretty much a long hallway that follows the coastline and ending up at the Ponto Suite and the Grandview Suite. There are 3 floors in the property, with the 1st floor being the check in, spa, pool, gym and ground level guest rooms, the 2nd floor being the restaurant VAGA and guest rooms and the 3rd floor being all guest rooms. Our room turned out to be an accessibility room, which has its positive and negatives. On the positive side, it's very big as it needs to accommodate a wheelchair, but the negative side you loose some of the intimacy of the regular rooms. The king sized bed was very comfortable. There's a love seat right in front of the bed. There was a bench next to the shutters that open up into the restroom. Because of the accessibility needs, there is no divide between the toilet, shower, sink and tub...so you'll want to be close to your partner. The one issue I found with the room, the lights were very hard to operate and not really intuitive. It took a while for use to figure out how to get the lights to turn off. Also, be advise that some of the rooms on the ground floor lack a level of privacy that one would expect from a resort of this caliber. It felt uncomfortable changing sometimes because people walking on the path can see into your room and while the windows are tinted, at night it wasn't as well protected. Also, ground floor rooms on the coastline side, while it states that it has a coastline view, most of that is blocked by greenery protecting your space from the public walkway. Also, while the fire pits were great, that space also lacked privacy from your neighbor as they can look right into your space. Otherwise, the room would probably be much more private on the 2nd and 3rd levels. We had breakfast at the restaurant VAGA both days. The menu was a mix of SoCal with Latin and Asian flavors. I had the Kimchee Fried Rice the first morning and that was as advertised by the wait staff. Spicy, but not overwhelming with a complexity that one would most likely find in some small mom and pop place in Korea. The breakfast sandwich was okay, but very messy and the proportion felt off as the protein was a lot smaller than the rest of the sandwich. However, the star of the breakfast menu has to be the chorizo gravy, a deliciously hearty mix of gravy, soup, chili and dip. We do have some issues with the property. We were charged for what they called an Alila Experience, which turned out to be a tasting, yet no one ever mentioned or was there writing about it being a paid experience. Luckily, the young lady at the front desk was gracious enough to remove those charges. Also, for a luxury property there wasn't much here that separated it from any property down the street. The property itself was small. The pool was small, almost the same size as the hot tub and half the space on the pool deck had a charge to it. There was a beach valet, but the beach was public so there wasn't any exclusive access sites. For a property that often has rates that range in the $500+ a night, it should offer more. The electric bikes were fun and that helped cover the fact that there was only valet parking available at this property. The bottom line is this. This property is probably not worth the cash rate, unless money isn't an issue for you, but for a points property it's a good redemption. read more

Stayed here for a brief weekend gateway. The hotel is located right above the beach. While the ocean view room was a bit pricey at $1200/night the service was impeccable. The staff, from the parking attendants to the reception desk, was very welcoming from the moment we arrived. The view from the room was beautiful. The hotel offers surf lessons, yoga lessons and bikes to cruise along the beaches. The hotel staff will even set up chairs down at the beach by request. There is also a nice spa on site. read more

The bad: Waiting 20 minutes to check in while there was only one person in front of us, and only one employee manning the desk was my first impression. Kids with toys in the jacuzzi screaming "I'm a duck" at this self-described adult-centered resort was my second impression. Then there was flagging anyone down for service at the Vega bar while sitting there in a not-even-half-full lounge was my third impression. The good: The grounds, the views, and the rooms are swell. Bonus points for Roberto's Mexican food less than a block away. The staff is nice enough but scarce. There are way better places to stay in this town. read more

Brunch at Vaga was amazing with incredible views. The pool was heated and very comfortable to swim in at 65 degrees air temp. The Alila is a beautiful hotel in a great location. We were really looking forward to our stay, however, it started off on a sour note. We arrived and were informed that parking is $52/night regardless of whether you're a hotel guest or not. Many people checking in received complimentary "welcome drinks" but for some reason we did not. The front desk employee tried to upsell us to a room that is the same as ours, facing the same direction, with a slightly better view, for $100 a night more - we declined. The room was nice but overall the experience left us with the impression that the Alila nickel and dimes you at every possible chance. PS: the gym smells horrible read more

We came here for Memorial Day weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We wanted to try all of the Alila hotels in California, and have been to Ventana Big Sur and Alila Napa already. We have to say that this one is not as nice as the other two hotels but overall is still a decent stay. Hotel itself: It is not a big property. There are residential houses right next to it on one side, and the other side is adjacent to the state park beach parking. Hotel rooms are on 3 floors, and there are lagoon view/coastline view/ocean view types of rooms. We stayed in a coastline view room, and the beach parking lot was right in front of us. There's a pathway surrounding the property/rooms, therefore, you wont get much privacy as people walk by (especially if you have rooms on first floor). Pool and jacuzzi are also smaller than the pictures you see online. Service: Everyone's friendly and attentive. Multiple people working at valet, and you can text ahead to get your car pulled up before you get to the lobby. Also, they provide complementary EV charging and electric bicycles. Food: Breakfast entrees and sides were all pretty good. You can see the attention to details. The restaurant VAGA is on the 2nd floor. Room: Bed is comfy, pillows are a bit flat. Towels are surprisingly thin and cheap. Nice modern decor with black and wooden design. Globalist benefits: We got upgraded to studio coastline view with balcony, and it is much bigger than the regular room with a nice big bathtub and vanity table. Parking is valet only and $52 a night!! It is waived for Globalist, thank god. Breakfast includes an entree, a side and a non alcoholic beverage. We got 12:30 pm late check out, not 4pm as we requested. Overall decent stay as food and service were good, but probably would not return due to size of the property. read more

The Alila Marea has beautiful ocean views and has the "Encinitas/North County" beach resort feel. The service was good- the front desk worker upgraded my room because I am a World of Hyatt Member, there was a handwritten note in my room with complimentary champagne to celebrate my anniversary, and the front desk always answered the phone very quickly when I called with questions. The hotel itself is laid out strangely, it is hard to orient yourself because of the minimalist decor, and it all sort of looks the same. The Ocean View room was nice with a huge TV (that connects with an HDMI cord, if you're confused about how to Chromecast like me), a very nice shower with amazing water pressure, good quality bathroom toiletries, a Nespresso machine, Bluetooth speaker, and bottled water. In my room, the patio furniture was comfortable to enjoy breakfast out on, and I could hear the ocean as I went to sleep. Super cool. The restaurant on-site, Vaga, was good. The Pocket the poolside bar, was what you would expect. The Coffee Box has basic coffee drinks and Vuori clothing. The amenities offered were also great. Noteworthy were the yoga class and the very nice new gym. I chose not to go to the pool because it was so small and a lot of kids happened to be there (Labor Day weekend) and unfortunately all the e-bikes were being used when I wanted to try them out. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Alila Marea and would recommend it to those who can afford the price point and want a casual yet upscale beach stay. read more

This was hardly an upgrade from a middle priced hilton and I would never recommend anyone pay what they charge to stay here. There is not enough room at the pool for the number of guests, the beach is a huge hike down with a rocky uncomfortable entrance and minimal beach service. The restaurant was "full" and couldn't take us one night but we went up to look anyways and it was half empty. The gym was depressing - no natural light and not enough Tred mills. My husband had to wait and go back 2 hrs later to get space in the gym. There are no tables outside by the pool / restaurant so you have to eat at a beach chair or inside which defeats the purpose of being on the beach. The hotel is next to a highway and not tucked away at all, but also not close enough to walk anywhere. The only good thing about this hotel was the pebble ice served in the drinks by the bar and the fact that the room was modern / clean. Don't waste your money or think this will be a cute vacation spot! read more

I went to a wedding here a few weeks ago SO super fun! The venue itself is beautiful but more casual than somewhere like LaValencia (that I also LOVE) but very nice nonetheless! Food was great and staff was super attentive and helpful. Usually I attend weddings with a group of friends and always have a great time no matter what the venue (but it's usually great, with a few exceptions). Okay where to start! I absolutely loved the staff in this resort. From front desk with Francisco and Ismael, to The Pocket staff, Scott, Dominic, and Brittany. To the guest experience staff Denise who took care of small hiccups during our stay. Also wanted to give a special shoutout to Sebastian at the valet, he was so kind when renting the e-bikes and very knowledgeable when it came to things to do around town, thanks for all your help! We are so grateful for your team! We loved the food, drinks, and desserts. The views were stunning! The pool and hot tub were clean and at great temperatures. This is a new and beautiful resort. We had a beautiful ocean view from our room. We are glad that this alila resort allows kids because the one in Big Sur doesn't. The restaurants were also great. Excellent customer service and amazing food. We loved it so much and would recommend it to our friends and family. I was going to give this resort a 5 star or even more if we didn't have a little bad experience at the end. The hotel has a small pool and limited number of cabanas and chairs. The cabanas and the chairs in front have to be reserved ahead of time in order for guests to use. We came during the pandemic and we understood all the precautions the hotel took to ensure safety for all the guests. We have a toddler. He was 2 years old at the time we visited the resort and he didn't know the chair in-front of the cabanas had to be reserved too and he wasn't allowed to touch. One of the hotel staff was very upset at him and told him he could not touch those chairs. She said that multiple times and made us extremely uncomfortable so we left the pool area. That ruined the good trip we had. The rest of the staff were super nice and friendly. Only one person that ruined our good experience. read more

I recently stayed here over the weekend for my 10 year anniversary. Hotel is located in a gorgeous beach front location. It's nice, quiet and had all the element of modern luxury. Our king br was top notch and break room service was excellent. The 2nd floor right on top of the front desk had breath taking lounge area that we really enjoyed. Valet parking guys, housekeeping staff were all courteous and helpful. so why only 4 stars? The check-in staff was extremely off putting. She had the most stoic expression, didn't stand up when we approached the desk (They said they have their front desk clerks sit at the desk to make guests feel more comfortable...). Didn't bother to go over basic amenities of the hotel. didn't even point us to our room. I joked to my wife that she must've seen our car when we pulled in and noticed it wasn't a lambo. Jokes aside, a front desk staff at a luxury hospitality of this caliber should never make guests feel like they were not welcome there. Well, this employee managed to do just that. I was only a discoverist at that time. I am wondering if things would be any different to go back there now as a globalist. Unfortunately, I have to report that the housekeeping staff here is not trustworthy. If you do end up staying at this hotel, do not keep any valuables around or if you do, put them in the safe. My bracelet was stolen by hotel staff and there is nothing that the hotel is willing to do about it. They handed me off to their insurance company who essentially explained that the hotel has no responsibility over things in the rooms. Their staff is essentially allowed to steal anything they want. You would think that such a highly priced and luxurious hotel would have better practices. Very disappointed. I also found out today that the hotel manager who was responsible while the incident happened is no longer at the hotel. Maybe they're having issues with their staff across all levels. read more

I was in need of a staycation and this was definitely the most perfect place to do just that! I only stayed one night, but I had an amazing time! The check-in process was really smooth and they offer you a nice beverage. I got a Two Queen Bed Coastline View with Balcony. The view was amazing. I loved just standing out on the balcony and admiring the beautiful scenery. I prefer this room to the larger rooms on the first floor due to the privacy. The first floor rooms are open to the public walkway. The restaurant inside the hotel, VAGA, was amazing! I don't expect too much from hotel restaurants, but this place was really spectacular. I felt like every dollar was definitely worth it. The only criticism I have is the valet parking is pretty steep at $54/night. However, I am happy they allow in/out privileges. Nearby there are lots of nice places to eat and also great places to enjoy a nice stroll/walk around town. I am definitely returning! read more

The hotel is in a lovely location, walkable to the beach and some restaurants. I had a problem with my room and was promptly moved late at night. The new room was an upgrade, but on the second floor (original room on the 3rd floor). The hotel took appropriate measures and generously compensated me for the room issue, went above and beyond, however this meant I did not earn World of Hyatt points. Positives: -spacious, well-appointed rooms -quality bath products -large hot tub with an ocean view -fire pits by pool with large seating area -good vegetarian options at the poolside restaurant -good coffee at their coffee shop -walking distance to the beach and some restaurants -most staff were very polite and pleasant (especially Alyssa who helped with my room issue) -spa is beautiful, excellent service, would recommend getting a massage there -fitness center has most equipment you would need, though no very light weights (lightest is 5lb) -hard seltzer and water provided in the room, leaving lots of space in the fridge for your own food/drinks Things to know: -rooms are not sound-proof. You can hear footsteps etc above and below your room. -pool, hot tub, fire pit close at 9pm. This is way too early. Usually hotel pools close at 10pm earliest. So there isn't much to do at the hotel late at night. -after my room problem, I question the cleaning process here. My new room had a cleaning rag on the floor by the toilet. -parking is really expensive, more than $50/night -towels are thin and rough...why not use the same soft towels as the spa? -I was not offered a welcome drink, while the person checking in next to me was...maybe I should have asked. Overall, this Alila doesn't measure up to other Alila properties I have visited (like Alila Uluwatu in Bali). I don't think the high price is justified. It might be a good value if you use points. There's a lot that goes into a resort stay so I think I'll address by pros and cons. The pros: bed (we had a king room) and room in general was very clean and very comfortable, can cast your own streaming service to the tv, best hotel robe I've ever used, giant walk in shower was amazing, food was good, mojitos were great, the pool area was gorgeous and comfortable (though small so if you have qualms sharing w lots of kiddos take note) and the surf school activity was a really fun and seamless experience. Cons: interior hallways of the hotel were very long, dark and stuffy, the majority of staff we interacted with were borderline were at best despondent and at worst unfriendly, there is nowhere to buy necessities onsite (we wanted advil and were told to drive to CVS) and AC in the room worked but not well enough to combat the non-breathable comforter provided even when turned down as low as it went. Overall I was there for a corporate retreat and thought this was a great venue for a work event, I just thought the ambiance was way to stiff for a beach vacation and at this price range would choose somewhere else on the water in San Diego every time. read more

Beautiful rooms and property. Front desk and valet and other staff are very friendly. Our room has a nice view of the beach and ocean. Pool is tiny, but I had already seen that in other reviews, so I was expecting it. VAGA for lunch was fine. Ramen was not good (mushy noodles and chewy birria), but the chicken and burger were good. Unfortunately there were two hard, sharp plastic shards in the quesadillas at the poolside restaurant. Our mistake for trying to eat the rest of the quesadilla after finding and reporting the first piece of plastic in it. The staff was apologetic and took that item off our friends' bill, but this is clearly a huge health and safety hazard that could put someone in the ER if they actually tried to swallow it. read more

I forgot my curling iron in LA and just tried to call them to see if they have any available, which was a bit weird for me since I never thought anyone would request for that in a hotel. Surprisingly they did looked for it and sent it to my room. Awesome view of the beach from our room and from the pool and the fire pit. We love the infinity hot tub right next to the pool, perfect for chilling and relaxing in this 40 degree weather when we stayed. Totally recommend!!!! read more

Lovely location for our Birthday celebration. Sadly, the hotel charged my card without my authorization on day 2 for over $1,000. (Upon arrival day 1, I was charge $450 for incidentals) When I questioned the floor manager regarding the charge, he stated that they needed to challenge the card to be sure I could pay for the reservation. I was insulted. I asked to speak with his boss, she never contacted me. This company charged my card without my auth, I was contacted by my financial institution, questioning the charge. The resort brushed me off and never contacted me back. There is no seclusion at the pool, people from the beach were walking up, reaching over the pool door and letting themselves in to enjoy the pool. One good waiter at the pool. Dust in the room and on the patio furniture. Definitely not what I expected for the price I paid. read more

What a beautiful hotel! I had been highly anticipating the opening of this hotel and it didn't let me down. First glance, when driving up you have no idea what to expect (valet parking only), the smell of the lobby took me back to the resort we stay at every year in Mexico (I wish I knew that smell!) and when you walk in you wonder where the rest of the hotel is. We were greeted at check-in by awesome staff and a delicious welcome drink and were provided keys to the pool while we waited for our room to be ready. We stayed Saturday - Sunday and the hotel was packed. I was baby free so I was so excited to get away but low key was a little bummed that the pool and jacuzzi was packed with kids, like everywhere, I was a little surprised this hotel wasn't adults only like some of the sister resorts (Alila Napa and Ventana). Loved the large jacuzzi and the lunch we ordered at the pool was good, but it was so hard to get/find water. We ate at Vaka during sunset and had awesome views of the coast. I would have prefered this hotel be adults only, but whatever I get it, still doesn't impact the star rating. read more

My visit didn't start off well... when I pulled up to the entrance it took a good 10 minutes and me tracking down an attendant before being acknowledged.... Now mind you they only do valet, so any car pulling up is obviously needing valet...and every car before mine and after mine were attended to, so right off the bat that gave me a very bad impression. I know my car isn't a brand new luxury vehicle but if your job is to valet cars EVERY car needs to be treated as such. Once I entered the hotel it was a bit confusing, but the front desk clerk was much more welcoming and helpful. Once in the room, I did enjoy the view of both the beach and lake. I will say I wasn't a fan of the very open concept bathroom...meaning the shower floors were even with the rest of the bathroom and had no glass door to prevent water from flooding the rest of the bathroom. Plus water kept dripping from the shower which was irritating. I was also shocked to notice some cracks in the walls by the beds, considering this was a pretty new hotel, so not sure why there would be any cracks yet. The room service menu was pretty limited and didn't really offer any allergy friendly foods, which was disappointing. Overall, I probably wouldn't choose this hotel again. read more

After a frequent guest at the Spa for mani & pedi, I no longer desire to visit this Spa or hotel. Mainly because of the degrading treatment by Emma, Spa manager. Emma was demeaning and full of false accusations regarding a simple task as rescheduling a appointment with a now past employee who has left to a better work environment . Also, after a bad experience with Renee, nail tech, who has a peering personality and engages in inappropriate topics of conversations. On my return, I was deliberately humiliated to face her. Emma can be passive aggressive with her patrons and employees. I have first hand information and have even witnessed personally. The Spa is similar to a tiny cave lacking amenities e.g., hot tub & pool. There is a sauna room and couple showers. Though the hotel has a pool and hot tub but you'll have to pay extra to visit if you're not a hotel guest. I paid $800 for a birthday package. Massage Treatments are wonderful. The massage techs are all Proffessional. Nail Services are subpar for the price. Nail techs are unprofessional. With the exception of one. Front desk is empty most of the time. read more

I'm commenting about a massage therapist at their SPA. The spa area is very nice. The best thing about it is Natalie. She is amazing ! I got a deep tissue massage. One of the best massages I've ever had. Natalie is very skilled and informative! She's a great asset to the Alila Marea. I've had other services at the spa which were very nice. Jan 2025 If you're thinking about a nice quiet getaway, I'd hold off staying here till the railway construction is done. 7:00a.m construction begins include driving huge pylons that you can hear inside your room and work goes on till 5-6pm e. Hyatt Globalist Concierge was very helpful with that! CHECK IN: Smooth, the valet handled the car, we handled the bags, they did offer help though. We weren't offered welcome drinks but when I asked for water they had some available. No acknowledgement of our anniversary (I know it's not a guarantee at Hyatt properties but I've had a Hyatt Place/Regency do more for a birthday) ROOM: We had an ocean view suite... incredible ocean front view, fantastic shower. Most rooms appeared to have a balcony and some type of water view. Either way views all around the property are gorgeous. I can imagine the regular rooms are comfortable but for the price feel small BEACH AMENITIES: surfboard, umbrella, chair and towel rentals available. Wish they had boogie boards available but definitely recommend bringing your own if possible! You do need to walk down a long set of stairs to get to the beach. There is a parking lot next to the beach if you need to drive down for accessibility reasons. SERVICE: i can see why there are so many mixed reviews. This hotel needs a few more months to get established. One weird thing that happened - we got a text that they made us reservations at a sushi restaurant nearby. We thought maybe they did this since we couldn't get reservations at Vaga. When we arrived at the restaurant they didn't have any reservations for us under our name. It was late and most everything else was closing so luckily the restaurant was able to seat us but we definitely wish we had gone somewhere else. RESTAURANTS/FOOD: Vegan, Gluten-Free, And vegetarian options available. Menus are well labeled. If you eat here multiple times then it may feel as if you're running out of choices. Breakfast at Vaga and lunch at the Pocket both took about ~30 minutes to come out on a weekend after ordering so prepare accordingly. Jeremy at Vaga was a nice server. Pros: - beach proximity (stairs from property that lead down to the beach) - Views all around - Beach rentals - Electric bike rentals - New property - Smooth checkin - Morning and afternoon yoga - Fire pits - Lounge areas around the property (one near the restaurant and one on the first floor) - nice gym Cons: - small pool area not too kid friendly - staff seems overwhelmed - Service ranges from mediocre to solid - Somewhat of a weird hotel layout depending where your room is (there are accessibility ramps and elevators) - Signs are hard to read. - Food service takes a long time and options may feel a bit limited (luckily lots of food options in Encinitas) read more

Thank you for your response Ben, but we left the same message at the front desk, and in the review sent to us after our stay. This is the first we've had anyone respond. Fixing these issues AFTER we leave doesn't help us at all with our experience - if you REALLY cared, you would invite us back for a stay at your expense. We paid $$$$ for the worst stay anywhere we've been in recent years! We won't be back, as it doesn't seem anyone cares about your stay while you're there, and for months afterwards. The views are terrible (either very close to the pool where it's noisy, or overlooking the parking lot and dumpsters. The rooms are small and the cost of EVERYTHING is 3x what it should be. Stay away until they get a new GM and maybe the new GM will start being concerned and care about their customer's stay. Nobody seemed to care when we were there!!! read more

Did another staycation here last weekend (12/18) and service was far better the 2nd time around. There were a couple of minor glitches but these were addressed by the staff promptly and to our satisfaction. I would chuck that to the overall hospitality industry being short staffed. This was booked through my daughter's AMEX FHR and the hotel clearly communicated and followed through with the benefits attached to this type of reservation. This stay was a post celebration for our son's 11th birthday and they gave him a mini birthday cake, which he loved and made his day. I live right next to this new hotel and at first I was really disappointed with what it looks like. BUT I went to a wedding their... and OH MY GOSH! The place is so beautiful inside and the service & food are as good as The Four Seasons or any similar type of 4 star accommodations. Even the hotel did not look bad once you are there. I didn't stay in the actual hotel but the weeding guests from out of town did, well over 150 guests from NYC and all over, and they said the rooms were great! The views arE spectacular!
