I booked my stay at L'Auberge through my Amex Platinum, which comes with some great perks! Between the $300 hotel credit, $60 daily breakfast credit for two, $100 property credit, and guaranteed 4 PM late checkout, it's a pretty sweet deal. Check-in was super easy, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I spent my first evening relaxing in the jacuzzi, which was incredibly peaceful. It was so quiet, and I had the entire area to myself! The next morning I enjoyed breakfast at the hotel. Since I was dining solo, I ordered the short rib hash and a mimosa, which came out to around $47 before tip. Unfortunately, the short rib hash was pretty underwhelming. It was basically a big bowl of meat with some potatoes thrown in. It was really heavy and lacked flavor. Definitely not something I'd order again. The pool was easily my favorite part of the stay! The weather was beautiful, and it wasn't crowded at all. I used my $100 property credit toward food and drinks. The cucumber and coconut margaritas were both delicious, and the crispy fish tacos were delicious! A seagull actually swooped in and stole one of my tacos, but the staff were sweet enough to make me another. The bartender was also extremely personable and fun to chat with. He went out of his way to check on everyone The room itself was cute, the bed was super comfortable, and the views were beautiful. The location is also fantastic with plenty of restaurants and places to explore within walking distance. The only minor hiccup was that my room key stopped working before my 4 PM late checkout so I had to go back and get another one made. Not a huge deal, just a little inconvenient. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay! The property is beautiful, the staff were awesome, and the poolside experience alone made it worth it. I'd definitely stay here again! read more

What a difference 10 years make. My wife and I along with our dear friends the Campanas wanted an adult R&R weekend. Boy, did we luck out. First off, we had great weather. Perfect sunny skies, high 60s to low 70s, and no wind. This hotel is perfectly located next to Downtown Del Mar with its quaint shops, retail stores and restaurants. We were walking distance from the beach and train station. Utilizing the free e-bikes from the hotel we ventured to Solano Beach. For dinner we dined the first night in downtown Del Mar and then to Carlsbad for night two. Relaxing pool and jacuzzi by day with sunset views of the ocean at night. Pair this with exquisite customer service and we had a great time. Everybody we encountered at the hotel was polite, hospitable and friendly. We felt very appreciated and catered to. A lovely weekend for us. Thank you. read more

From the moment you pull up to Auberge Del Mar it's an amazing and magical experience. The valet parking is $10 for two hours and overnight parking is not exorbitant. They take very good care of your car and they are very efficient when you need it back. The resort is spectacular! I don't know how I haven't been here before but I'm coming back every week! I love the sweeping ocean views and the beautiful and inviting lobby. The bar is happening and very lively! The employees are very well trained and interactive. I really enjoyed my afternoon here yesterday and I can't wait to come back! read more

Ooh la la - felt like a mini getaway right in Del Mar! I've been here a few times when I didn't want to drive too far and wanted a fancy schmancy hangout! PROS: - Perfect location day or night - quick walk to the beach, shops, and restaurants - Popular spot for bougie food or European style gelato and surprisingly even Mexican eats. - Sunsets are my weakness, but here it's even more special especially from the lobby - it's unreal and literally GLOWS! - Love coming during the evening when you have no major plans and this spot was lively! - Great for people-watching so grab a drink and enjoy the show! CHEERS! - Living room bar had live music and great vibes! Feel free to dance it off as well. - Staff and valet team were friendly and on point. - Restrooms were well-maintained and clean. - Decor is dreamy, relaxing, and very Euro-chic! CONS: - Ocean view is hit or miss depending on where you're situated. If you have a balcony you'll have the full effect. - Drinks are PRICEY (go figure!) but hey worth it-sh LOL - Gets crowded and and maybe rowdy. Some days seem chill and others not so chill. So if loud noise is not your jam on busy nights, you may have to pass. OVERALL: 4 stars for great vibes and just a beautiful spot! read more

L'Auberge is French and means lodge or inn. L'Auberge Del Mar is a small hotel north of San Diego in the city of Del Mar, with beach views and offers many amenities. Over two decades ago, I stayed at L'Auberge in Sedona Arizona and had an excellent experience; surrounded by red rock canyon, nestled next to a running stream, and the menu offered french country cuisine. Because of such a wonderful experience, I hoped a stay here at L'Auberge Del Mar would be Trés Bien... This hotel is not grand, small pool but the pool lounge, lobby lounge, restaurant and spa were above average. Our suite had all the necessities for a comfortable stay including balcony with ocean views and very dog friendly; my pup felt at ease. Would have preferred a larger pool, unobstructed ocean views and direct beach access. Service from the entire staff was excellent, all very cordial and helpful. After a couple weeks in Paris for a work/pleasure vacation, we were exhausted and needed another vacation to decompress, relax from feeling jet lag. L'Auberge was just the right place, it's far away enough from the city of San Diego, across from the beach, and it's French flair was perfect to ease back from a French vacation into our SoCal life. WARNING: There will be an event/wedding/party every night of your stay and it takes place 20' from your room and balcony. Oh...and you paid extra $$$ for that privilege! That warning should have been given to us but was not. Four nights and four parties literally right outside our room. We called the front desk and were told "we will see what we can do" but there is nothing they could do. We paid EXTRA $$$ to have the "Coastal King with Fireplace" which put us directly adjacent to the party patio. We literally cried after the third night only to find out the fourth event was even worse. Event #4 had a violinist that showed up one hour early to practice at mega volume. Finger nails on chalkboard for hours and hours. Not an exaggeration. Our wedding anniversary trip was meant to be a relaxing special occasion at a luxe resort watching the Sun set on a romantic balcony. Epic Fail. We paid in full in advance. Ugh. The front desk person apologized and said something like "yes we have a lot of events here." You have been warned so buyer beware. read more

Ambiance of the lobby/bar/restaurant were great! We only had one night to spend in Del Mar so we were hoping for the best accommodations we could find as far as the room/bed/bathroom. Unfortunately, when we returned to our room after dinner we found a trail of ants from the wet bar/snack area down the wall and across the baseboards. There was only a full size room available without a view to switch if we would have liked. Since we were really hoping to wake to that gorgeous ocean view we declined the only option available and hoped no ants would find their way to the bed. Need less to say, no other customer service was offered. Disappointing for the money spent to say the least. Because of the location, friendly staff and dining experience I may consider giving it another try though. read more

We've come to Del Mar for 30 plus years, staying at the adjacent timeshares that have access to L'Auberge Del Mar's amenities. Location? A+ Views? A+ Revamped Front Desk? A+ Maintenance Service When Needed? A+ The noise level is problematic, but that's the nature of any hotel. What gives reason for the low review isn't L'Auberge's problem per-se. The hotel has always been "pricy" which demanded a certain kind of customer. The hotel has been aiming towards families which brings in so many problems. The evidence has been kids running circles around their terrible parents, who refused to tell their little angels to pipe down. With kids having zero boundaries means you also have parents with no common sense to start with. Don't visit the pool area unless you absolutely have to. These new visitors leave unfinished drinks and food scattered about, towels wherever they may drop, an ocean of pool toys goggles, etc, plus all sorts of garbage wherever they may. I think they're assuming the staff should take care of dropping their stuff in the trash bin that's oh so far - about more than an arms length anyway. Do I sound elitist? Perhaps to the untrained ear. Our kids would never blast music, sit in the sun with their iPads, tossing drinks on the ground, and yelling "WHEN CAN I GO BACK TO THE ROOM AND WATCH TV?????" I can't say, dear reader, if your children would behave or not. I think it's fair to say your kids wouldn't do that - but they would be the exception today. All I'm doing here is comparing what the hotel was like over the past 30 years of visiting (staying a full week at a time!) to where we are in 2025. The hotel can't discriminate against families, but they can boot unruly people no matter their age which would be a good start. If L'Auberge is going for the family market, then have some genuine kid friendly things to do - not assuming they will go to the beach, or be civil at the pool. Painting, clay, legos, etc would help. Bring in a naturalist who has birds, snakes, and other animals. Guided walks through the area... anything! L'Auberge management need to think about the customer the hotel is marketing to now, not back in the 1930's when the hotel was built. PS - The jacuzzi was not working - on and at 85-90ish, but no jetting. It was like a giant Sous-Vide for human beings. The pool was not heated to the 80 degrees I was told it would be before arriving by the front desk - more like 68 which is no bueno. The hotel has a great history that unfortunately is being squandered by a poor understanding of what they have on their hands. I hope there is still time to "right the ship". read more

My girlfriend who lives in Vista planned a girls night for us here. It's a really cute Hotel bar overlooking the ocean. They had live music last night and have live music on the weekends as well. Quiet enough where you can hear each other speak but feels alive and social as well. read more

From the moment we arrived, the level of service at this hotel far exceeded our expectations. We were visiting to celebrate the babymoon we never had the chance to take and this stay turned out to be exactly what we needed as a family. A huge thank you to the valet team, especially Michael and Sean, who honestly made the entire experience unforgettable. They not only remembered our names, but also greeted our two kids by name every single time they saw us. That kind of personalized attention was so heartwarming and rare. Doug, the beach valet went above and beyond. He was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, giving us great local recommendations and helping us get set up at the beach, no small feat considering how much gear we were juggling with the kids in tow. The front desk staff handled everything with a sense of urgency and genuine kindness, which made check-in and any requests throughout our stay feel smooth and stress-free. Our room was spotless, and the housekeeping team was just as impressive, even tracking down a pair of scissors for us right away without hesitation. The restaurant staff were friendly and warm, and room service was excellent and prompt (a blessing with kids!). I have to say we are foodies and surprisingly enjoyed our breakfast from the hotel more than we did any of the local hotspots. Not sure if it's true or not but the chilaquiles are supposedly a family recipe from the chef and I believe it, they are that good. Also, order the acai bowl- it's only on the pool menu but you can order it at Adelaide for breakfast- so yummy! The concierge team added a special touch to our stay, making us feel celebrated in a meaningful way. We were also thrilled to be able to extend our stay one more night, even though that extra night wasn't available during booking. It felt like the entire team worked together to make it happen. Our stay was truly memorable, and we genuinely loved everything about it.  If I could offer any suggestions for improvement, it would be regarding the water situation. There were no complimentary bottled waters in the room only mini bar options for purchase ($9). The front desk had warm Dasani bottles available, while the hotel's outlets sold Evian. For a hotel of this caliber and price point, providing better quality, complimentary water (even just two bottles per day) would be expected. The children's scavenger hunt was a fun idea, but the prize trunk was completely empty. Our child was kindly offered an Oreo cookie instead, but that's not something we include in our family's diet, so he was understandably disappointed. A restocked prize selection or alternate keepsake reward would go a long way in making the experience special for young guests. The bathroom amenities also felt underwhelming. The scent provided was coconut mango, but the products themselves did not feel like high quality and almost seemed like an afterthought compared to all the other things. The pool was not heated, which meant we were unable to swim because of how cold it was. This was especially disappointing for our family, as the pool is often a big part of a vacation experience. Another note is that the room does not include a traditional fridge. There is a stocked mini bar, but we were instructed by the front desk to remove all of the items if we wished to use it as a fridge and then restock everything before checkout to avoid charges. For families, having a proper fridge would make a big difference. Lastly, don't expect a scenic view from most rooms. Much of the hotel is positioned behind condos, so the outlook is quite limited. read more

Disappointing. We booked through the AMEX Fine Hotel program which we have used for The Loden (Vancouver) and The Wynn LV. Those were great stays at fantastic properties. This wasn't. Pros- Friendly welcoming service. The valets were especially nice. Front desk cordial offering waters, champagne, and chocolate. The ladies at the hotel coffee shop, Lyric, were great. The town around it is fun to explore with some cool boutiques, restaurants, and bars. Short walk to the coast. Cons-Room was a disappointment. I expected a more decorated room and I've been in rooms where you just stop and go "Whoa!" This wasn't one of them. The bathroom was cursed. Literally a few minutes into our entrance my daughter found herself stuck inside because there was apparently a screw sticking out of the door wedging itself into the frame. I didn't want to force it open and cause major damage so we had to call engineering. The toilet the next day got clogged. Poor engineer guy must have had his hands full around the compound because it took almost half an hour for him to arrive. There was no signal to the tv. Foot traffic from room above was quite audible. I will comment about the hotel restaurant in a separate review but that would fall under the negative section here as well. Wouldn't recommend. read more

BED BUG NIGHTMARE--AND THEY GHOSTED US! We stayed here over the holidays, expecting a relaxing getaway--what we got was a horror show. After one night, we returned to what we thought was a clean room, only to find BED BUGS crawling around! I was bitten, and we immediately reported it to the front desk with photo evidence. They promised to switch our room and directed us to insurance claims. Then came the excuses. Their exterminator's report was "inconclusive," but they assured us insurance would still help. Spoiler alert: They ghosted us. We have clear photos and videos proving these were bed bugs--confirmed by our own exterminator. The infestation alone is disgusting, but the way this so-called "resort" completely ignored us is beyond unacceptable. STAY AWAY unless you want to bring home more than just souvenirs! read more

Every year I stay at your hotel during this event, and each time I request to be placed in a quieter part of the property. Despite asking again at the beginning of this stay, I was once again placed in a room where the noise levels were unmanageable, making it nearly impossible to get any rest. For a stay that costs over $2,000 per night, I do expect a higher level of attention to comfort and service. What's most frustrating is that no one has acknowledged the inconvenience or attempted to resolve the situation -- especially after multiple stays and repeat requests. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a more accommodating experience, especially at this price point. read more

I really wanted to love it here but for the price it definitely needs some fine tuning. The hotel lobby, bar, and restaurant are great. Wonderful staff, beautiful location & they went above & beyond to accommodate us! Thank you!

My hubby has been wanting to check out this hotel for years. We decided to try it since it was part of Capitol One's Premier Collection hotel. This gives us a $100 experience credit, $60 for breakfast, complementary upgrade, and early check-in/ check out. My first impression of the hotel is how small it was. The valet staff were all super helpful and kind. They also helped us rent the bikes (2 free hours). You must use your phone and credit card to rent. The view from the lobby of the ocean is nice, but honestly, the hotel is on a hill, and there are condos blocking much of the ocean. Plus, the pool and people in swimsuits seem to dominate the view. The pool is small. The lounge chairs were pretty full. Towards the end of the day, it was a mess. They also have a tennis court that is off to the side of the property. It seemed like an afterthought. We arrived around 11:30 a.m. hoping to get an early check-in. Our room wasn't ready until 3:15. We did get an upgrade to a king cabana, which was a pleasant surprise. The front desk staff were professional. We even got a box of truffles. We were offered sparkling wine or water. The cabana king that we stayed in was small. It seems a bit outdated. The whole hotel has a musty, old smell to it. Room 117 is right in the corner. There was an anniversary party in front of our room. It made going out in the patio very unpleasant. I discovered curtains that you can close though! I didn't really like the scent of the bathroom amenities. They didn't blow me away. The refrigerator coffee maker doesn't quite fit with the luxury hotel. Also, they offer a key to the mini bar. They seem to try to nickle and dime you for everything here. The snacks seem like they have been sitting there collecting dust. Everything at this hotel is pricey, even the M&Ms. The bed was comfortable. The TV was big and in working order. There were plenty of lighting. The Cabana Patio had these steps pr concrete bench that confused me as what they were for. The last guest left a dog toy and treat. I was also surprised they didn't have turndown service. The golf cart service to the beach was great. It isn't that long of a walk to the beach. We ended up walking most of the time so that we didn't have to wait. Sam who was the beach chauffer is great at him job! Super friendly and helpful. Just know that he drops you off and you will have to cross the street and set up your own chair and umbrella. Finally, we tried to get a late check out and we were told it would be complimentary up until 12p.m. and then $50 per hour thereafter. I feel like this hotel is not worth the price they are asking for. I am a Hyatt loyalist. I will stick to Hyatt. They far surpass Lauberge in service, value and amenities. read more

The level of service here is amazing! One example: the first evening after we checked in, my wife had a headache and we stopped at the front desk to ask if they had any Tylenol. The very friendly young lady said it would be available at the gift/coffee bar, but that was closed. At most hotels, that would be the end of the conversation. Here, what she said next was "Wait a minute while I get the key."! She proceeded to unlock the closed shop and took us in to get the Tylenol. Amazing! read more

This hotel is beautiful with warm and friendly service from staff, but unfortunately there were a few things that kept our stay from being the restful babymoon that we'd hoped for: 1. The bed was ROCK HARD. My husband prefers a firmer mattress, but even he found the mattress to be very uncomfortable with not enough cushioning. I had terrible sleep while experiencing excruciating hip and back pain each night. Not fun as a pregnant person. I did call the front desk and mention the hard bed, but they were only able to offer a super thin mattress protector that didn't help. 2. The walls are paper thin with poor sound proofing. It didn't help that our room was located directly across from a bridal changing room. We were woken up very early one morning by a group of girls talking, laughing, and playing music. I could so clearly decipher what they were saying that they may as well have been hanging out in our room. We could also hear the wedding party/guests laughing, talking, and running through the hallway at 2 am. 3. There was a false fire alarm that went off on our last night there at around 2:30 am, and we had to evacuate our room. The front staff did waive our resort fee for that day for the inconvenience, which I am appreciative of. This is also something that I understand the hotel couldn't have helped. With everything added up, I unfortunately ended up with dark circles and bags under my eyes at the end of our babymoon. read more

I stayed at this property several years ago and it was fabulous. Now, it is nothing better than an upgraded Motel 6. The hotel is battered and devoid of charm. Supposedly it was 'upgraded' in 2021 but really it is a sad comparison to the gorgeous redo prior by Barclay Butera (if he saw it today he surely would cringe). For our couples away weekend, we expected a charming boutique seaside hotel, and what we got was so disappointing at any price point, but for $1200+ a night I feel completely taken advantage of. I booked a fireplace coastal king room. Fireplace did not work on night one, engineering fixed it the next day but left soot marks all over the switch to turn it on (see pics below). There was peeling/chipped paint everywhere in the room and the plantation shutters looked like they were taken from a tenement in downtown LA. The decor was colorless...drab greige everywhere. Now if I could give zero stars I would because this place is such a rip off. That being said, I would like to praise the staff who were wonderful, friendly, sympathetic to my concerns, etc. The only other positive (and this is important), the bed was very comfortable. Food in the restaurant was good but very overpriced. The lobby bar was the only stylish element of this property but drinks were $35+ which is outrageous price gauging. I learned this is now a Noble House property.....nothing 'noble' about it. Sad to say I will not ever return as the experience was incredibly disappointing. read more

We sat outside and ordered drinks. about 10 minutes later a woman came up to our table and scolded all 3 of us for not asking her if we could sit there. She had an entire speech prepared. The guy I had talked to ran up to our table and explained to her that he told us we could sit outside, but she ignored him and continued scolding us. My group was so offended we just paid for our drinks and left. I didn't get this womans name or I'd include it. read more

We had a fantastic family vacation over Memorial Day weekend here and can't wait to come back. Everyone from Claudia at check-in to Doug at the beach cart was absolutely fantastic. We went through American Express and had an upgrade to the Pacific view suite and it was absolutely perfect! We got married here 10 years ago and had such amazing memories that it was great to go back and make more! It sounds minor, but the staff really took the time to make our visit worthwhile. The morning restaurant crew at Adelaide remembered us and our kids food preferences (gluten free) every time we went down for breakfast and the housekeeping service brought a little stool to our suite so our kids could reach the bathroom sink. And Doug made the beach experience next level, in fact our kids are still talking about Doug and asking when we can visit him ha ha! The only thing I would change up is the in room dining menu. Not many options for in room dining however the partnership L'Auberge has with the surrounding restaurants is really great. We hit up the pizza spot next-door as well as Jake's and the ice cream shop. Love L'Auberge and will definitely be back ! read more

I have been wanting to stay here for years and my wife and I were finally able to visit the quaint and cool city of Del Mar. We arrived early but could not check in early so we explored the hotel and the classy shopping center across the street. We ate lunch at the pool bar and then we hung out at the beach using the beach valet who provided beach chairs and an umbrella for us to use. We were told our room was ready at 315. The room is small but nicely decorated with comfy bath robes but there was some kind of event literally right by our patio so we didn't really use it and the people could see right in our room and you could not see the ocean from it anyway. The service was great from the beach valet and the pool bar server. The receptionists were friendly and inviting and held our luggage for us until we checked in. However our room was nice but no ocean view. In fact I would say all the rooms on the first floor did not really have an ocean view. Even if you did there are condos that block part of the view. We asked for a late check out and the receptionist offered 12 but said it would be like $60 dollars an hour if we stayed later. Overall good service, great location close to restaurants and the beach, but seemed pricey with extra "fees." Nice view of ocean from pool and dining room. It was a nice if underwhelming stay. 4 stars for service and location, but 3 stars for room and event right next to room. read more

Disappointed by the service at The Living Room Bar last night. After the comedy show, I had an open tab and was sitting with a group on the couches near closing. At no point did staff announce last call or let us know the bar was closing. Had our group been informed, we would've closed out immediately. Instead, the bartender quietly added a large surcharge to my tab and left my credit card at the front desk -- even though we hadn't left and were one of just a few groups still in the bar. Poor communication and a lack of basic courtesy really soured what could've been a great night. read more
