5 Stars We just got back from our stay at the Pantai Inn and already can't wait to come back! This place is an incredible value for the cost, again I feel like I need to gate keep this but yelp is about sharing....you're right across from the ocean, with some of the best views in La Jolla. We stayed in Room 208 and while there are no elevators or luggage carts (so pack light or be ready for some stairs), the oceanfront views totally made up for it. The hotel has a charming, older vibe, but it's well maintained and fits the beachy, Balinese-inspired theme perfectly. Our room came with an above-average kitchen setup, which made it easy to prep snacks and simple meals during our stay. Free water bottles in the lobby were a nice touch, and the complimentary breakfast (7:30-10:30 a.m.) was way better than your standard hotel spread, fresh, even the bacon was crispy but not over cooked, tasty, and filling. It's just a short walk to the beach, the kid-friendly "children's pool" area, and of course, the famous La Jolla seals. Be warned: La Jolla has its fair share of hills, so if you're bringing a stroller, be ready for a bit of a workout. This was our first time staying here, but it's already looking like it'll become our annual end-of-summer tradition. Next time, we're definitely staying longer. read more

Great view! You can't beat it! Just be aware you trade the view for a tiny, tiny, like seriously super tiny bathroom, depending on your room selection. The staff was great. The bed was very comfortable. It is hard to keep a hotel in pristine condition on the coast, but the room was clean enough. Did I mention the bathroom was super tiny? Lol it did have a little kitchenette, which we did not utilize, but I could see how this would be a great plus over other hotels in the area. read more

I can't say enough great things about this hidden gem. The staff are great! The unit was amazing. Everything from the unit, to the courtyard restrooms, the front desk office,, bar and breakfast restaurant are immensely spotless clean! It's beautiful, clean, friendly staff and has everything you need! We enjoyed the living room fireplace and next time will make better use of the kitchen! The bar is open to hotel guests only but because it is in a beautiful courtyard they should definitely have a sign on the street to invite people walking along the ocean up for a rest and drink. I can't say enough nice things about this Inn. There is a rooftop lounge on the next building over for guests as well with some seating and a propane fire pit. Great all around! The location is great but unfortunately they use harsh chemicals to clean and I had to leave from the room with my daughter within 30 min of checking in. It was her spring break and it was very sad I had to leave but I would have ended in the hospital if I would have waited 10 more minutes . I notified front desk he refused to call the manager but I was told to call in the morning - the next day the manager said he did get notified - but because I opened the pull out sofa and got 2 pillows from the main room he will not refund me. :-/ I have traveled all over if I get a reaction typically the hotel will accommodate you (but this manager apparently feels is a honorable thing to charge for opening the pull out sofa). Within 10 min I could feel the pressure in my head and my lungs wanting to explode / they didn't have any other options here. I got very sick and swollen from the scent in their lobby and in their room. We need more people to understand this type of stuff that people suffer from and not take advantage of it. This was a $600 room that the manager Edwin refused to refund. Unfortunately this is sad and not right. Makes me sad as San Diego is beautiful but hotels are really suffering from 5 Star hospitality. So I don't know how this place got such good reviews? The only thing good about it was the location. I booked this place because it came up as luxury and good for a romantic stay. It was luxury priced.First of all, the room was tiny, The bathroom even smaller( think camping trailer)with no counter space. The walls were very thin, so no privacy. Parking was extremely tight and a $20 charge per night. Continental breakfast was low quality, I've had better at a budget hotel. Also, no blackout blinds, so the room had a glow all night from the outside lights.Front desk not friendly and did not even tell us there was a rooftop lounge. Stayed there for my 27th wedding anniversary. La Jolla is beautiful and we were out most of the day but unfortunately, when it came time to going to bed, it was absolutely horrible. The mattress was visibly CONCAVED and it sucked us in after lying down and felt wonky. It was extremely uncomfortable and we got no sleep. Midway through I thought of sleeping on couches but they were small & uncomfortable which was no big deal since you're not suppose to sleep on the couch anyway. The next morning, I went down and told the nice lady at the front desk named Norma(per Edwin mgr) of our experience and she asked us to show her. She goes up there and we told her she'll really feel especially if she sat or lied down(of course after it was cleaned, she can do so). She said she didn't have to as she can VISIBLY see there was something wrong with the it. She says it definitely needs to be replaced and she was sorry-she would let her manager downstairs know and get back to us before we checked out. We had to go downstairs to follow up and Norma said her manager is busy but he will call me later. This was on a Sunday morning as checkout was 11am. Never received a call and finally, my wife called Edwin the manager around 1:30pm the next day. He said he got busy but he did receive an email(not from us maybe from Norma). Edwin said he went up to the room and lied down for 3-4 minutes and didn't feel or see anything wrong with the mattress. My wife shared our experience above and he says he didn't have the same experience. This fella was quite arrogant, impatient, and had quite an attitude. He shared that his opinion bares weight. He went on to say I needed to address it with booking.com anyway. So then, I called Booking.com who opened a case. A few days later, they emailed me and said they emailed the hotel but never received a response. read more

This hotel has the most inflexible and onerous cancelation policy I've ever seen in my life. It's a strict 14-day cancellation policy or you lose your first night deposit. In my case, I tried to cancel with a week's notice and had only two options: lose over $700, or roll-it-over to a date in the next year. Somehow the manager, Edwin, thought he was handing me "a gift" to get to use a one-night in the future. If you book here, better hope you don't get sick, because Edwin is unsympathetic and cold. He cares about the best interests of his hotel over potential clients. read more

So I know people who will say, " oh I don't care much about where I stay because I'm just sleeping there" but if you're anything like me and DO care about where you lay your head and like to stay in places that offer comfort and are pleasing to the eye then I would definitely recommend Pantai Inn. Not only was it comfortable, the room was really nice ( it felt like home away from home). Staff is also amazing- from the front desk to onsite bartender and housekeeping. My family and I stayed in room 201 and the views were amazing with oceanfront views. We will definitely be back. No complaints here, just a very satisfied customer. MOTEL 6 WITH AN AMAZING VIEW WITH TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I hate writing bad reviews but this one was so bad I have to warn future guests. Let's start by saying I paid $589 for one night at this hotel. I tried calling before check in to ask for early check in if possible. Tried calling them from 8am~9:30am every 10 mins with no answer so left a voicemail mail to call me back. Waited another hour and called finally getting front desk asked for early check in, which she said that was totally possible and they would call between 12:30-1:30pm when ready. NOPE NO CALL... I call at 2pm asked about the room, "oh yes it's ready" #thanksforthecall We get to the room and it's not $589 luxury forsure... old and run down but with an amazing view though. It's wasn't a bad room, but definitely the value should NOT be over $300 on any day. The air conditioning did NOT work... as well as the TV didn't work either. There a picture I've attached of the TV "weak or no signal". Over all the room was not great in any means, but manageable. THE WORST IS YET TO COME!!! Listen to this! We go to our wedding and get back at 10:45pm. We try our key card and it doesn't work. Tried over and over again and both cards do not work. Frustrated we walk down and across to reception. We get there and it's pitch dark and on the door it says: "Needed to leave a little early, the next person will be in at 11:00pm. If you have any questions call Edwin @ ###-###-####." (Picture attached) We waited 11pm NOPE, 11:10pm NOPE, 11:20pm NOPE, 11:30pm NOPE... we were so exhausted and cold we called Edwin. Edwin says sorry our other employee is currently busy with another customer (bullshit!). So he then decides to tell me to break into the reception office using the back slider... WTF? He proceeds to tell me to sit behind the front desk and gives me instructions to create my own room key card. Absolutely mind blown at what I was doing at 12:30am! (Picture of me making a key card in the middle of the night.) Next morning we were so fed up just asked for a receipt for stay and we left. Didn't get a receipt... called again asking for one and front desk tells me since I booked through third party they will send you one??? WTF? I've stayed at MANY hotels never had I heard this before... I said please just send me a receipt for our stay, she took my email down at 12pm it's currently 2:30pm with no receipt! I would give this place negative stars if I could, I feel completely ripped off paying $589 for that hotel. With atrocious customer service and professionalism. DO NOT STAY THERE! read more

Best place to stay in La Jolla! The hotel gave major Bali vibes. There was a fountain constantly running on the property which provided a tranquil environment. Complimentary breakfast in the morning included a make your own waffle station, deli meats, fruits, etc. Rooms were super huge at a whopping 600 sq ft. Very cozy because of the fireplace. The kitchenette was a huge bonus. Love that you can Chromecast on the TVs! Complimentary water, sodas, and homemade cookies were provided, which was awesome We had an issue with the fireplace not turning on. They promptly dealt with the service request and had a technician over while we were gone to fix it, which I give bonus points to! We had to pay for parking which was a bummer, but that's kind of to be expected in California hotels. It's a great location and there might be some nice rooms here, but not room 225. Horrible for $459 - over $500 with tax and fees. Made Motel 6 seem luxurious. We discovered "high floor" means "over the basement." There was no closet, just a wobbly floor rack with no coat hangers - we asked and they said they don't have any. No robe (which was listed on our invoice). No "sitting area", barely room for one chair. "Work desk with lamp" was the tiny night table next to the bed (photo below). The phone didn't work. The coffee maker didn't work. There was no manager to talk about any of this with. I called several times and I wrote an email but got no response. We had a wonderful stay at the Pantai Inn. The ocean view and breeze was incredible, the grounds beautiful, and our suite was roomy and comfortable. Location was perfect for walking to the ocean across the street, and to the shops and restaurants in La Jolla village. Couldn't have asked for a more fun and convenient area. The hotel is pretty inside but the service is terrible. My boyfriend had booked the hotel for us, but we had to pay a separate fee for parking. I gave the front desk girl my card to run, because she said it was for the $25 parking, and once she ran it and handed it back, she said she had put a charge on for an additional $150 on top of that "for incidentals." You cannot charge people for things without their consent! She said it was fine because it was just a hold, but it's not, she said nothing about it before running the card, and it put my account over and I had to sort out a whole headache with my bank because of her! I told her I would need a receipt stating that I'd be refunded, and she said she could only do that at checkout, but that they would be able to do it. When we checked out the next day, the manager, Erwin, told me he could not provide the receipt I was promised. Today, nearly a month later, the Paintai Inn charged me $7.18 completely unauthorized. The girl at the front desk left me on hold for half and hour, until I called her on my other line. Then she told me the manager, Erwin, had authorized the charge earlier that day, but that he was out for the day. Another Yelper had left a review that included a photo of his phone number that he had left for him, so I called and he refused to tell me why he made the charge. He said he didn't want to deal with me until the following day. Interestingly, when I initially paid for the parking, the girl at the desk was confused that my card did not physically have numbers on it, and wanted to know the credit card info, which is not necessary with a credit card terminal, as most hotels have. I did NOT consent to the $150 charge, or the $7.18 charge, or storing my credit card information for almost a month. This is completely unacceptable and I am disgusted. This feels like a scam, and I am genuinely concerned that is what is going on here. I am a travel journalist for a magazine-style publication and have done work before on San Diego, and where to stay there. I was hoping to include something nice about the Pantai Inn in my next article, but this experience has changed my mind for the worse. read more

I have not actually stayed at this hotel and after the customer service I have received over the phone inquiring about these packages listed directly on their website I will never stay at this hotel. I will also tell everyone that I know not to stay at this hotel. At the bottom of both pages on the website, it says to call or email, to book or to get more information. No where does it say you have to book separately with another company. If that was listed, I would have done just that. I was told I had to do that after I called the number listed. I called both separate companies inquiring what is listed in the package on the hotel's website and they have no knowledge of these packages at all. I call the hotel again trying to understand why the separate companies had no idea about these packages. The lady said that they are completely separate and need to be booked separately! Obviously, I'm a customer inquiring about a package that you have listed on your website and as such you need to be respectful especially with your vocal tone when talking to your customers. read more

This was my first time staying here. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The location is perfect because its literally steps away from the beach. You are close to seal beach too, if you would like to see them. Our room had 2 beds, a king and a murphy bed. It was my first time sleeping on a murphy bed and it was comfortable for me. We did have to call the front desk for help on the set up though, because we couldn't figure out how to secure the bed feet to the ground which took the front desk lady 2 seconds to show us lol. The ocean view was beautiful and it was nice to sleep to crashing waves along the shore. It had a full kitchen and 2 large screen tvs and a fireplace. I booked one of the most expensive rooms at about 500 per night. We only stayed 1 night. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the bathroom fixtures were old looking, with calcified deposits along the bathroom sink, shower head and some peeling paint/drywall. I just feel for it being so pricey they could put in new fixtures or a least do some heavy duty cleaning. Also the blinds were somewhat broken and would not fully close all the way down. So at night time people could look into the window and see me sleeping if they wanted to because of the broken blinds. Not that it happened but it could have. As mentioned before, everything else was great and it was nice to stay here but I dont know if I would go back. I might try one of the cheaper rooms in the future. read more

I live in La Jolla and walk by the Pantai Inn almost daily. I wanted to did a special celebration for one of my sisters, so we reserved 2 rooms for the 4 of us. We had 2 2 bedroom units with full ocean view. The rooms are right in front of the hotel. Upon entering our rooms, there was a fire in the fireplace and relaxing music playing. The size and layout of the rooms was beyond our expectations! I had called to ask about an early check-in and was told to come anytime as our rooms were ready. I noticed the toilet in my room appeared to be clogged. I went to the front desk and Ryan could not have come any faster to fix the issue! The units we were in had beautiful patio views of the ocean- and we watched some perfect sunsets. They were equipped with full size refrigerators and kitchens. The bedrooms had large comfortable beds and tons of closet space. The staff could not have been nicer - especially Taylor and Ryan. We want to make this a yearly event now with the same rooms. Incredible view, but only if you book the small room. Basically a half bathroom, literally a micro sink with no counter. Incredibly noisy and some rooms definitely had way too many guests considering room size. Paper thin walls. The room we originally stayed in was amazing, however, it has since been sold and is no longer part of the Pantai Inn. The hotel needs serious updating and the (MICRO rooms) need to be advertised at such. There is nothing romantic due to the noisy children and people up and about at 5am. The breakfasts are very basic. The eggs are very dry. Surely, for the high prices, the quality of food could be better. Only apples and bananas. No berries. Lots of sugary cereals. We spent our anniversary here and the first night was great, but the second was disappointing. Firstly, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the view was beautiful. The second night, however, there was a very loud domestic dispute in the room above us. It went from 11 pm until 2:30 in the morning - loud yelling, knocking-around noise, it was impossible to sleep. It was scary for a moment because he was so aggressive. I called the front desk and they apologized and the noise stopped shortly after, cops were called and they parked outside while it appears they were talking to the man. After 3:00 am, the woman came back to the man and they continued their fight in the street outside our room (after cops had left.) Eventually they went their separate ways and we were able to get a few hours of sleep, but paying as much as you do for a room like that - it was disappointing how it was handled the next morning. You can feel taken care of at a hotel, and we did not feel taken care of here. The lady at the front desk briefly apologized insincerely when we mentioned it and that was it. Not sure why others reported such a bad experience? My little family and I absolutely ENJOYED every moment of our stay here! This past summer, my husband and I took our kids to the beach before school started! Through my work benefits, we reserved the king size bedroom and sofa bed for 2 nights during the week. The cost was about $850. We chose this resort because we wanted to be within walking distance from La Jolla Cove and the Children's Pool. The room was very comfortable and perfect for my little family of 4. The ocean view from the windows of the living room, and the patio, were gorgeous! My husband and I truly enjoyed sitting out on the patio in the evenings to watch the sunset and listen to the waves! It was so calming and peaceful! The living room was a decent size, enough room for the kids to move around. When we arrived, the table was set up with wine and wine glasses if we chose to use. The kids slept on the sofa bed, which they did fine sleeping on. Also in the living room was a small closet where we placed our folding chairs and beach tent. Saved a lot of room! The bedroom was small, but we did not need anything big. The bed was very comfortable and the blankets were clean and soft. Extra blankets and pillows were also provided in the room as well. We were able to place our suitcase inside the closet and there was also a small dresser in the closet if needed. The only thing I didn't care for when it came to the bedroom was the sliding door to go in and out of the bedroom. You could literally hear everything in the living room even when the door was closed. The bathroom was very clean and elegant! Toiletries were also available if needed! As of parking, it's definitely limited. Thankfully, we had no problem finding parking during the week. The staff were very friendly and assisted us every time we needed. If I could give this negative stars I would. Terrible, terrible experience. Awful room, windows would not even open. Stunk of cigarettes.My husband couldn't stand up in the tiny bathroom. We were not put in the room that I picked online and when we went to the front desk to switch we were told that we could not cancel our reservation.
