I can't say enough great things about this hidden gem. The staff are great! The unit was amazing. Everything from the unit, to the courtyard restrooms, the front desk office,, bar and breakfast restaurant are immensely spotless clean! It's beautiful, clean, friendly staff and has everything you need! We enjoyed the living room fireplace and next time will make better use of the kitchen! The bar is open to hotel guests only but because it is in a beautiful courtyard they should definitely have a sign on the street to invite people walking along the ocean up for a rest and drink. I can't say enough nice things about this Inn. There is a rooftop lounge on the next building over for guests as well with some seating and a propane fire pit. Great all around! Highly recommend.

We have stayed in some of the best hotels in La Jolla. From the most upscale to the most minimal. I absolutely loved staying here at Pantai. The staff are super nice and friendly. Everyone is so helpful. Rooms give the boutique style. Breakfast every morning was great. Complimentary waters and juices. Very close to all the walking and shops. Highly recommend.

We cannot speak enough positivity about this place! The property is older but beautifully maintained, and treated with love! It's not crazy busy, but overrun with crowds at breakfast, or in general. Its views are breathtaking!! The breakfast is delicious, with so many different things to choose from, and so fresh! Antonio and the other staff are fantastic!! We will always come back!

The view from room 201

So I know people who will say, " oh I don't care much about where I stay because I'm just sleeping there" but if you're anything like me and DO care about where you lay your head and like to stay in places that offer comfort and are pleasing to the eye then I would definitely recommend Pantai Inn. Not only was it comfortable, the room was really nice ( it felt like home away from home). Staff is also amazing- from the front desk to onsite bartender and housekeeping. My family and I stayed in room 201 and the views were amazing with oceanfront views. We will definitely be back. No complaints here, just a very satisfied customer. Thank you Pantai Inn for a relaxing and very much enjoyable weekend. Hope to see you soon.

MOTEL 6 WITH AN AMAZING VIEW WITH TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I hate writing bad reviews but this one was so bad I have to warn future guests. Let's start by saying I paid $589 for one night at this hotel. I tried calling before check in to ask for early check in if possible. Tried calling them from 8am~9:30am every 10 mins with no answer so left a voicemail mail to call me back. Waited another hour and called finally getting front desk asked for early check in, which she said that was totally possible and they would call between 12:30-1:30pm when ready. NOPE NO CALL... I call at 2pm asked about the room, "oh yes it's ready" #thanksforthecall We get to the room and it's not $589 luxury forsure... old and run down but with an amazing view though. It's wasn't a bad room, but definitely the value should NOT be over $300 on any day. The air conditioning did NOT work... as well as the TV didn't work either. There a picture I've attached of the TV "weak or no signal". Over all the room was not great in any means, but manageable. THE WORST IS YET TO COME!!! Listen to this! We go to our wedding and get back at 10:45pm. We try our key card and it doesn't work. Tried over and over again and both cards do not work. Frustrated we walk down and across to reception. We get there and it's pitch dark and on the door it says: "Needed to leave a little early, the next person will be in at 11:00pm. If you have any questions call Edwin @ ###-###-####." (Picture attached) We waited 11pm NOPE, 11:10pm NOPE, 11:20pm NOPE, 11:30pm NOPE... we were so exhausted and cold we called Edwin. Edwin says sorry our other employee is currently busy with another customer (bullshit!). So he then decides to tell me to break into the reception office using the back slider... WTF? He proceeds to tell me to sit behind the front desk and gives me instructions to create my own room key card. Absolutely mind blown at what I was doing at 12:30am! (Picture of me making a key card in the middle of the night.) Next morning we were so fed up just asked for a receipt for stay and we left. Didn't get a receipt... called again asking for one and front desk tells me since I booked through third party they will send you one??? WTF? I've stayed at MANY hotels never had I heard this before... I said please just send me a receipt for our stay, she took my email down at 12pm it's currently 2:30pm with no receipt! I would give this place negative stars if I could, I feel completely ripped off paying $589 for that hotel. With atrocious customer service and professionalism. DO NOT STAY THERE!

Beautiful surroundings, peaceful and large rooms. We enjoyed our time here and hanging out by the fire pit. Breakfast was amazing

It's a great location and there might be some nice rooms here, but not room 225. Horrible for $459 - over $500 with tax and fees. Made Motel 6 seem luxurious. We discovered "high floor" means "over the basement." There was no closet, just a wobbly floor rack with no coat hangers - we asked and they said they don't have any. No robe (which was listed on our invoice). No "sitting area", barely room for one chair. "Work desk with lamp" was the tiny night table next to the bed (photo below). The phone didn't work. The coffee maker didn't work. There was no manager to talk about any of this with. I called several times and I wrote an email but got no response. Be careful that you know what you are going to get when you reserve a room.

Review of La Valencia Hotel…read more I purchased a day pass here as someone who works in the hospitality industry and is always curious to experience new properties from a guest perspective--and La Valencia absolutely delivered. I arrived pretty early in the morning (optimistically expecting sunshine), but even with the typical coastal overcast, it didn't take away from the experience at all. In fact, I somehow ended up with the pool almost entirely to myself--in the middle of August, which felt like a hidden luxury. The setting is just beautiful. The views, the calm atmosphere, and the overall sense of escape made it easy to settle in and relax. I spent about five hours there and never felt rushed or overlooked. The staff, especially at the cabana bar, were fantastic--attentive, respectful, and genuinely pleasant to interact with. I ordered food and drinks throughout the day, and everything added to the ease and enjoyment of the experience. The only small downside is parking, which can be a bit tricky--but that's pretty standard for La Jolla. Overall, this was an incredible day experience and absolutely worth it. I'd do it again without hesitation.

The venue was the perfect size for our 60-person wedding, and so beautiful with the ocean backdrop and landscape. There are lots of amazing spots for photography. From the moment we toured the venue, to planning details along the way, to the big day, communication was excellent. The hotel suggested vendors for our wedding that made vendor selection easy, and all of them were equally fantastic. The service the entire weekend was outstanding. The bridal suite was a fantastic space for the girls to get ready, made even better by the mimosas and treats the staff brought up. The team also went above and beyond for our family, even using the hotel golf carts to shuttle the grandparents to nearby restaurants so they wouldn't have to walk far. The food at the wedding was top-notch, with many guests raving about the meal. I was impressed with the number of wait staff who made sure the evening went smoothly. Overall, it was an incredible event, and we highly recommend La Valencia hotel.

Absolutely would not stay here again…read more We stayed one night at the Empress Hotel in La Jolla on Valentine's Day, paying over $460/night, and the experience was bad considering this was not "exceptional service." Parking is in a public garage across the street. You pay $25 through an app and use a QR code to enter/exit. The scanner repeatedly failed. We had to get out of the car multiple times on a steep underground incline just to get the gate to open. We kept showing the QR code on our phones and nothing. We tried again and again. This would take 5 minutes every item trying to enter and exit. Finally it would respond. And the people in front of us and behind had the same problem Around 9 PM on a Saturday night (Valentine's Day) the garage gates were closed. The hotel staff should've warned us that parking closes early around here. Several hotel guests were standing outside with us , frustrated and confused. We called and the hotel told us to use an alternate entrance on another street. Once inside there was no way to find your car. You're on a different level having entered in a completely different side and at night. It took 17 minutes walking level to level to find our car. My husband is a Type 1 diabetic, so this stress and exertion became very stressful since his blood sugar started to drop. The microwave in our room also died mid-use, and the hotel had no replacement, which is odd since being familiar with hotel hospitality, they usually have back up coffee maker, microwaves, clocks, etc. We were in the area to visit our kid in college not for VD. We got frozen dinners at pavilions to have meal in our room since restaurants were booked. We had to heat our dinners upstairs in the breakfast area. Breakfast the next morning was awful -- mushy powdered eggs (they melted in your mouth like hot mush), strange bacon, warm milk, and soggy potatoes. Management offered a $17 adjustment, which does not cover the $25 parking fee. This dismissive and insulting given the extent of the all the things that went wrong. The front desk staff Hayley and Josh were friendly and professional. Not worth the price. We won't return.

This is an older hotel which brings great charm and has a very comfortable feel. The public restrooms were very clean and well maintained. Our room on the third floor, north side had a very small sliver view of the Ocean. We could hear a little traffic noise from Prospect St. It was a good size room with a nice King bed. There were no firm pillows on the bed, just soft down style. The bathroom was good size. Unfortunately, the toilet was right up against the sink vanity so you could not even lean to the right! The lighting was very good in the room, and the window covers did an adequate job. Our two other rooms were on the 2nd and 3rd floors right above Prospect St. Occupants in those rooms got very little sleep because of the loud traffic noise. As an older hotel the exterior noise damping is poor.

The construction is bothersome but I was never bothered by the sounds. Progress comes with inconveniences so it didn't bother me personally. Here's why I lowered the rating. The elevator is HORRIBLE. Something should be done in the massive renovation and it was completely unreliable. Especially, since there's only one carrying luggage down the stairwells is risky at best. The brand new lighting in the bathroom was a big fail! The lights are mounted behind the mirror and my wife could barely see because it's so dim. For nearly $400 a night, the level of service was shocking. There was zero remorse and no effort to make things right--not even a simple gesture like a coffee to acknowledge the inconvenience. Beyond the service, the rooms are small and outdated. This was a massive disappointment, and we will be sure to warn our friends and family to stay elsewhere. Sergio, you have a lot to learn about basic customer service! UPDATE: I wanted to update my review following a rough start to our stay.
