Absolutely beautiful. You can hear the ocean waves at night. Clean rooms, friendly staff and peaceful environment. 5/5 recommend.

We love this place. Nice cozy little motel with only 15-20 room tops. Every room has an ocean view from the balcony. The hotel is walking distance to the Cove as well as many bars and restaurants on Prospect. They also offer complimentary parking for it's guests on property, very beneficial during peak beach season. We were able to walk to the La Jolla Cove cliffs and watch the sunsets daily. The ocean front was bustling with activity all day long with people walking dogs, riding bikes or scooters or just relaxing reading a book. The Scripps Inn was the perfect place to unwind and spend our wedding anniversary without the kids. All of the hotel staff was friendly and helpful from the maids to the maintenance staff. The women at the front desk was amazing and really made our stay memorable. We cannot wait to go back to Scripps Inn and we MAY....bring the kids.

Front desk was so helpful & kind! Brenda was very accommodating!

Amazing location, awesome staff & beautiful views! I would definitely recommend Scripps Inn if you are in La Jolla area. The Inn provided Bikes, Umbrellas, Beach Towels, Swimming Goggles, & Great customer service, front desk was so kind & accommodating! The location is AMAZING. The Wedding Bowl is right in front, that was beautiful to see. There are so much to see & do right on the street. Food & coffee spots were all walking distance (10 min) The art museum & seals were all so close as well. 10/10 would recommend & will be back to this Inn next time!

We will be back!! We got 3 rooms here 6/2-6/6, 2023. My parents had a room, father in law in a room, and then my family of five in a 2 bedroom suite. The staff was friendly, you can't beat the view or location... just an overall amazing time away (especially for us, escaping the Arizona desert). Can't wait to plan our next getaway there!

last day was a bit cloudy, but I always loved seeing the little inn on my walk back from morning coffee (view from Cuvier St).

Minor things cannot get this little boutique hotel down in score for me. The location is outstanding in terms of closeness to the coves, Prospect, and many eateries, coffee shops, bars, etc. We stayed for two nights and I only wish we could've had a longer trip. La Jolla is magical in itself, but Scripps feels special. From the homey décor with the beachside theme, to the quaint terrace where you can read and sip a beverage with the ocean in your sightline. The small stuff that wasn't worth sweating: outlets are rather oddly placed in the room (most often hidden behind furniture in such a way that it was hard or impossible to plug anything in; we used the washroom outlet most) and if you're in a first floor unit (we were in 5), you can definitely hear your upstairs neighbours walking about. All this doesn't negate the positives for me. Brooke is the most wonderful concierge and goes out of her way to accommodate for her guests (personal text to notify that the room was ready early, luggage storage solution since our flight wasn't until the evening). The sweet ladies on the hotel staff were also incredibly kind and friendly. It's always so nice to get a smile back. I hope I get to stay here again, especially for summer! Thanks so much, Scripps!

This had become our "go to" place to stay when visiting glorious La Jolla. Like ourselves, it has changed over the years. Prices have risen, but improvements have accompanied the rate hike. Scripp's Inn was the only choice for us in La Jolla. We have tried a couple of the other hostelries in town, but always returned to Scripp's. However, with the advent of airbnb's there are more choices now, with complete kitchens. After this last stay, I will try an Airbnb next time, and "test those waters." Changes are a float in La Jolla and at Scripps, and change isn't always good. Ideally located across from the ocean and coastal park, with the correct room and breeze, the sound of waves will lull you to sleep. Rooms are huge, done up in soothing tones of beige and turquoise. The beds are comfortable, and there is excellent storage. Yet, the furnishings are beginning to look worn and dated, hot water disappeared in the bathroom, and noise carries from the surrounding units. A small refrigerator is available for use in the rooms. Coffee and mediocre pastries are laid out in the office every morning, and there is a coffee maker in your room. Parking costs $16.00 a night. With about a ten minute stroll to the restaurants and nightlife of La Jolla, Scripp's Inn is perfectly tucked away so you can get a respite from the action. Holiday weekends in La Jolla welcome a tourist invasion formerly unheard of in these parts. I will avoid traveling to La Jolla on these holiday weekends, as tour buses line up along the water, ruining the bucolic essence of the town. This invasion brings in revenue, but the old time residents of La Jolla must be muttering constant expletives. Hopefully, La Jolla won't be ruined. Scripps Inn may not be what some would call luxury. Nor, is Scripp's a full fledged B & B. However, it was the perfect accommodation for La Jolla. However, like La Jolla itself, Scripps Inn has changed, and we will search for the La Jolla of old somewhere else on our next visit. Maybe we will find this reminiscent perfection My guess is, after our search, we will return to the Scripps Inn.

It's summer and what better way to enjoy Southern California than to spend a few days by the beautiful beaches of La Jolla. I booked our room online via Booking.com for two adults and one child. Check in time is 4pm so we arrived around noon and spent the next four hours exploring and enjoying the sun and the beach. At 4pm we head out to the hotel. We arrive at about 4:20 and the lobby is open but no one is there. We wait around for about 7 minutes before the receptionist finally shows up. Okay, strike one! She tells us we have been upgraded and will be staying in room 15 which is a suite with the best view of the beach. That was an understatement! The view was amazing. The room itself was cute. Somewhat dated, but cute and charming. We had a kitchenette, a couch and a king size bed as well as an armchair and dining table. The only caveat was the lack of counter space for the coffee maker and toaster. We had to put them on the floor to plug them in. The 'breakfast' available in the lobby was just pastries and coffee or juice. Calling it breakfast is a stretch in my opinion. Overall I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend this inn to anyone wanting to stay near the beach.

We stayed at the Scripps Inn during our wedding weekend as it is directly across the street from Cuvier Park (where we got married). Because our wedding was close to Thanksgiving, the rates for the rooms were pretty expensive at the time. We booked the Garden Suite for the night before the wedding to make sure that we had enough space for me and my bridesmaids to get ready. We booked the Vista Ocean Suite for our wedding night (the best room of the hotel). When checking-in on the day before the wedding, the staff told me that the guests who were staying in the Garden Suite wanted to stay longer so they gave us a two bedroom suite (which actually costs more) but didn't charge us more for it. It is larger than the Garden Suite as well, so it worked out well while we were getting ready for the wedding. The staff at the Inn also moved all of our stuff (we had A LOT) from the two bedroom suite to the Vista Ocean Suite for us while we were getting married; so that helped a lot! On the day after our wedding, waking up to see our ceremony site and the ocean was perfect. The staff at the Inn was great and although pricey, it was well worth it to stay there. I would definitely recommend Scripps Inn for anyone getting married at Cuvier Park.

This is was an amazing stay with marvelous views. This property overlooks the ocean, and you could just sit out at the patio to enjoy the view. They are following pretty strict Covid guidelines which puts a traveler at ease ! Our check in process was completely contactless. The staff communicated extremely well to make the remote check in such an easy process! The rooms are very nautical and has totally beachy appeal to it. At night you don't even need to open the windows, and you could hear the ocean sounds . The location is ideal with most restaurants within walkable distance or a 5 min drive away. Our stay was very pleasant even during such difficult circumstances and we would love to visit again.

We stayed here for our anniversary and the place was really cute and has a lot of character. We stayed in room 12 and the view was amazing. The fireplace going and hearing the waves crashing outside the window made for a perfect weekend for us. I highly recommend this place. The customer service we received from Brooke also made the experience that much better.

Review of La Valencia Hotel…read more I purchased a day pass here as someone who works in the hospitality industry and is always curious to experience new properties from a guest perspective--and La Valencia absolutely delivered. I arrived pretty early in the morning (optimistically expecting sunshine), but even with the typical coastal overcast, it didn't take away from the experience at all. In fact, I somehow ended up with the pool almost entirely to myself--in the middle of August, which felt like a hidden luxury. The setting is just beautiful. The views, the calm atmosphere, and the overall sense of escape made it easy to settle in and relax. I spent about five hours there and never felt rushed or overlooked. The staff, especially at the cabana bar, were fantastic--attentive, respectful, and genuinely pleasant to interact with. I ordered food and drinks throughout the day, and everything added to the ease and enjoyment of the experience. The only small downside is parking, which can be a bit tricky--but that's pretty standard for La Jolla. Overall, this was an incredible day experience and absolutely worth it. I'd do it again without hesitation.

I paid $500 for the room, arrived around 10 pm and had to check out by 11am, quick $500! There was a $45 resort fee, whatever that means. Still would love to know what that was for. Anyways, the bellhop guys were nice they gave me recommendations for where to eat and also helped carry my suitcase up to my room. The bedroom was small, really small and the view was of a back lot with dumpsters and the side of a building. Sure, the room was hip and funky and cool. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small but functional. Listen the room was fine, but for $500...and this was a heavily discounted room because I booked through Hotel Tonight. Anyways, I walked the hotel at night and it was nice because I had the place to myself, the pool is really pretty at night, it's lit up, I recommend walking outside and having a seat on their comfy couches above the pool. In the morning I continued exploring the hotel and when I went to check out the dining room I was receiving unfriendly glances from the hostess or whoever she was. So much so that I stopped and asked if it was okay that I was looking around, to which she replied, "Well are you eating?" I said no and that I was staying here and just wanted to check out the view. I am a pretty average looking chick, was in work out clothes, maybe I didn't fit the high end clientele look and it seemed to bother her. Anyways, the people at the front desk upon check out weren't the friendliest either, seemed annoyed when I asked if they had change for the bellhop. The man at the concierge desk who I believe has a job of making sure everyone in the hotel is happy and having a grand time didn't even acknowledge. me the four or five times I walked past his desk. I felt unwelcome to be honest.

Parking is in a public garage across the street. You pay $25 through an app and use a QR code to enter/exit. The scanner repeatedly failed. We had to get out of the car multiple times on a steep underground incline just to get the gate to open. We kept showing the QR code on our phones and nothing. We tried again and again. This would take 5 minutes every item trying to enter and exit. Finally it would respond. And the people in front of us and behind had the same problem Around 9 PM on a Saturday night (Valentine's Day) the garage gates were closed. The hotel staff should've warned us that parking closes early around here. Several hotel guests were standing outside with us , frustrated and confused. We called and the hotel told us to use an alternate entrance on another street. Once inside there was no way to find your car. You're on a different level having entered in a completely different side and at night. It took 17 minutes walking level to level to find our car. My husband is a Type 1 diabetic, so this stress and exertion became very stressful since his blood sugar started to drop. The microwave in our room also died mid-use, and the hotel had no replacement, which is odd since being familiar with hotel hospitality, they usually have back up coffee maker, microwaves, clocks, etc. We were in the area to visit our kid in college not for VD. We got frozen dinners at pavilions to have meal in our room since restaurants were booked. We had to heat our dinners upstairs in the breakfast area. Breakfast the next morning was awful -- mushy powdered eggs (they melted in your mouth like hot mush), strange bacon, warm milk, and soggy potatoes. Management offered a $17 adjustment, which does not cover the $25 parking fee. This dismissive and insulting given the extent of the all the things that went wrong. The front desk staff Hayley and Josh were friendly and professional. Not worth the price. We won't return.

I have to agree even finding my contacts was difficult with these dim lighting. Fix those two things and you would have a five rating.

As a bride, I cannot recommend staying at La Jolla Cove Suites…read more The day before check-in, I had a gut feeling that something wasn't right, so I emailed Grace to confirm everything. I'm incredibly thankful I did because she responded admitting that she had booked our reservation for the wrong dates. I was shocked. We had booked our room block nearly a year in advance and had confirmed everything multiple times. Because of that mistake, my husband no longer had the suite we had reserved for him and his groomsmen to get ready in. Instead, they were placed in a much smaller room with construction directly outside. The getting-ready photos we had envisioned--and paid for a professional photographer to capture--were completely different because of an error that was not ours. What disappointed me most was the response. Rather than making every effort to fix the situation or offering a comparable solution, it felt like we were simply told, "This is what you get." As a bride, that was heartbreaking. On the morning of my wedding, I also had to spend time dealing with hotel issues instead of simply enjoying one of the most important days of my life. No bride should have to experience that. To make matters worse, after our stay my husband paid for one of our rooms, yet another charge for that same room was later processed, leaving us trying to resolve a duplicate charge after our wedding. After returning home, I found other reviews describing similar experiences involving room block mistakes and communication issues. Reading those reviews made me realize our experience may not have been an isolated incident, which was incredibly disappointing. I want to be clear that Wedgewood Weddings was absolutely incredible. Our wedding itself was beautiful, and their staff made our day special. If you're getting married in La Jolla, I highly recommend Wedgewood. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about La Jolla Cove Suites. If you're trusting a hotel with your wedding weekend, I would strongly encourage you to consider staying elsewhere. A wedding weekend is something you'll never get back, and ours was overshadowed by avoidable mistakes and unnecessary stress.

We had a weekend getaway planned and ended up at The Shoal La Jolla Beach. The highlight was the…read moreroom we reserved. The hotel itself feels like a nicely renovated Travelodge--which it actually is--but the room made all the difference. We chose what felt like a rooftop addition: a single top-floor suite with a large private, semi-wraparound deck. It was genuinely impressive, and we loved it. The young gentleman who checked us in was charming and friendly, and we were glad to arrive. Our room was clean, and the view from the top was excellent, even with a slight obstruction. One of my least favorite post-pandemic trends is how many hotels have adopted the "reduced service" approach, which often reads as "we can't be bothered." When you're paying hundreds of dollars a night, basic service shouldn't be a negotiation. The Shoal did mention this policy upfront. The next morning, on our way out, I stopped by the front desk to keep things simple for housekeeping. We only needed two things: replacement pumps for the broken shower product dispensers (two of them), and the bed made. Straightforward. They did replace the pumps, and we appreciated that. But they didn't bother making the bed. Oddly, they did clean the bathroom and replace towels--something we didn't ask for. When a guest makes a basic request, why is it missed? Policy? Forgetfulness? Inefficiency? Hard to say. The hotel's location is excellent--about two miles from the village in a mostly residential area. There's a charming little gourmet market down the street and several restaurants within walking distance. The beach is just steps away. Even with the on-and-off rain, we genuinely enjoyed our La Jolla weekend. The food scene in this town is strong. Do a little research, because there are some fantastic restaurants packed into this small, very appealing area.

We checked in and the lady at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. However, our room was a lot smaller than I had expected. If cars are passing by, you'll hear it from the room, which made it hard for me to sleep. Also, there was a lady saying that her laptop was stolen and called the police. On the upside, it is pretty convenient to walk to downtown La Jolla and is very close to the ocean. Parking is also easy! Overall, I would probably pick somewhere quieter if we were returning to La Jolla, but other than that, not a bad price for what you're getting!
