We really enjoyed our stay there. It is not a pretentious place and it's perfectly quirky. Well equipped, and with awesome staff who are very eager to help. We liked all the games for the kids and the fact that you could step out onto the beach. The cooking area was great for barbecuing and entertaining. There are many restaurants, bars, a grocery store, shops within walking distance. Garnet is the Main Street, plenty of banks and ATMs. The check-in was easy and staff was helpful. Not all lodging are cottages and oceanfront. Ask for a cottage while checking in for availability. read more

We have friends who have been going to The Beach Cottages for several decades and they invited us to join them. It is a great place to get away and relax and walk along Mission Beach. There is a Ralph's market across the street and several great restaurants nearby. We were there during the week, and I understand that the area can get a little rowdy on the weekends :-). The facilities are a little dated, but kept tidy and well-maintained. The price point seems reasonable. We plan to return later this year. read more

I loved the location, the convenience and the staff. Just stayed here with a friend, and the property had so much to offer. You can watch the waves from your room or walk out the gate onto the boardwalk. The staff, both the front desk as well as the housekeeping folks, were so helpful and friendly. Having a full kitchen made the trip more affordable because we could shop at the Ralphs across the street instead of eating at restaurants for every meal. Highly recommend the Beach Cottages for anyone wanting a fantastic location and great people working there. read more

WOW this was the best experience of 66 yrs . The staff were amazing thank you much !!!! This room was immaculate . The Cottage had everything you need in it , full kitchen ( gas stove) dishes , pans glasses etc. 3 queen size beds (1 a sofa bed ) very comfortable and roomy . Full dining area w/ 6 chairs, a couch set w/ tv , beautiful wooden shutters on the window . Quality shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in a modern tub with a safety bar to get in and out of the tub. Maid came everyday. One block from the hud of the beaches , quaint shops and eateries in town. I will be back at lease once a year read more

The customer service here is top notch! Everyone was so helpful and friendly. One of the days we were there was rainy. My son was so disappointed because we didn't have anymore beach time. They allowed us a late check out so we were able to enjoy a few hours at the beach before we had to drive home! The room was spacious and very clean with a full kitchen. The location near the beach cannot be beat, it's literally steps to the beach, and walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. They also provide secure parking. I also loved how they had ping pong, shuffle board and lots of outdoor seating. We had a brief family getaway for fall break. Can definitely see us visiting again! Thank you! read more

This is the dirtiest room I have ever paid money for, and I don't even have expensive taste. This room wasn't cheap. We stayed in the west wing on the second floor in an accessible room with two queen beds. Upon arrival, there was sand all over the bathroom floor/walls, a piece of plastic trash behind the toilet, and a hair in the bathtub like it hadn't been cleaned. I called the front desk and they said they'd take care of it. When we got back, the sand was swept from the floor but still on the walls, the trash was still behind the toilet, and the hair was still in the tub. You can see the stains on the floor. They don't even bother to mop. The lampshades are stained. There's dust behind the headboards. A crusty stain on the bedskirt. The white towels are marked up. No AC, no heat. No luggage rack so you have to use the tables for suitcases so you can't use the tables as tables. Not even basic amenities. The neighborhood is loud with all the bars, bring ear plugs if you want to sleep. It was hard to fall asleep and I kept waking up. Parking is $15/night even though there are plenty of spaces open. Room total is charged upon check-in, not checkout. That was a first. Water pressure is a joke even by motel standards. It's mostly just too expensive for the hygiene to be this bad. read more

I always wanted to find a place in California, on the beach, that was also affordable, family friendly, and made me feel like I did when I was visiting my grandparents. The Beach Cottages is the place. Not only do the cabins have the perfect nostalgic feel, the staff is friendly and trustworthy. What prompted me to finally write a review was our most recent trip, I forgot my hairdryer and flat iron, which isn't the end of the world, but the staff sent the items back to me. The Beach Cottages are safe and they look out for their guests. I am a customer for life. I highly recommend! read more

We've been going to The Beach Cottages for vacation since I was young girl and now I'm the one taking my kids. It's the family vacation we look forward to year after year. The Cottages have a family-friendly atmosphere - there are usually kids of all ages hanging out near the ping pong tables for my girls to play with. The location can't be beat - you are walking distance to some great restaurants, bars, shops and just steps away from the beach. Another plus, reserved parking which is hard to find in PB. Took a work trip and opted for my own choice of accommodations and so glad I did! Ditched the high-rise towers downtown and loved every minute of the views, sights, and sounds. Our family has been staying at the Beach Cottages during Christmas for nearly 30 years!! It has been a tradition we look forward to year after year, and that has a lot to do with our experience at the Beach Cottages! The location is unbeatable! It is right on the boardwalk in PB, just a ways down from the Crystal Pier. It's so close to the beach, you can literally throw a rock from most rooms onto the sand. We have seen many of the same staff working there for decades. Ranging from David and crew at the front desk, to Rafael and Jose in maintenance, to the wonderfully friendly housekeepers! It's always nice to see familiar faces over the years, and have the staff recognize and remember you. In my case, some of these people have "known" me since I was like 10 years old. We've seen this place go through changes and upgrades over the years, from new appliances, to flat-screens from tube TVs. They have both hotel style rooms, as well as cottage style apartments. We've stayed in both, though currently love the views from the 3rd floor. The main 1-bedroom rooms are equipped with a full kitchen, including a stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, plates and flatware, in addition to other kitchen tools. There is a separate living/dining area with a couch, soft chair, dining room table and chairs. The couch folds out into a bed which helps sleep more people, or kids. There is a full bathroom with a standup shower and tub. They also have smaller, half rooms. These are attached to the larger rooms and can be used as a 2-room set, or rented individually. The half rooms still have a small fridge and microwave, but no stove/oven or large kitchen sink. As for activities, they have multiple ping pong tables, as well as shuffleboard. They have the equipment out for use during normal operating hours. They've had wooden ping pong tables forever (which would warp over the years due to ocean moisture), though we noticed this year they had replaced the main one with a hard plastic material! They also have BBQ areas, fire pits, and laundry facilities that you can use. There are tons of brochures for local entertainment and things to do, as well as post cards for sale in the lobby. The front office staff are all super friendly, so I'm sure they'd be willing to share recommendations! We love and look forward to our time at the Beach Cottages each year. We just got back from our annual trip a few days ago, and are already looking forward to going back! Thanks again for all the great service and good memories! read more

Most rooms do not have a view. You will likely be in a separate building in a back alley behind very loud bars. Trash collectors came by early every morning as well as people scavenging through the trash to collect the bars' cans and bottles. We could hear ALL the footsteps of the folks above us. Shower backed up into the kitchen sink and old food filled the sink. No breakfast and the coffee had powdered creamer. Now reading the other reviews, I would bet they are not bonafide. The only benefit was that there was enough space for four adults. read more

Wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beach. It is right on the beach - moments from room to sand. There is a deck area, just like the restaurants and bars have, with tables and umbrellas. You can sit and people watch or just watch the waves, but we enjoyed having our meals there. The staff were lovely and helpful. We will see them next year! read more

I did not have the maid service doortag on my door and was very busy with work until 11:30am, I am on an important client call & the cleaning lady barges into my room without knocking! Keep in mind it's a dated hotel, so if you're looking for swanky, this isn't it, but it's clean and managed well, so don't let a dated look hold you back Pros: Quiet time starts at 10pm, they really try to cater to the family environment Staff is SUPER friendly and helpful - everyone from the front office to the maids, all great Did I mention it's right on the beach?! Cons: I can't even say it's their fault but the area is a bit of a college party area, and sleeping right above the restaurant downstairs was not fun. Again, nothing in their control The water had a bit of an egg smell to it when turning it to hot. Doesn't last long, but it was strong The bathroom countertop is TINY. Not really an ideal space for setting up toiletries and daily essentials With all that said, I would stay here again but would prefer to be in a room that isn't by the restaurant/bar. read more

Great location, essentially, right on the sand, and ideal for a younger crowd. The surrounding area is lively, with plenty of nightlife geared toward the college scene. However, the atmosphere may not be suitable for families or those seeking a quiet getaway -- we saw several people vomiting in the evenings and lost count of how many used the alley as a restroom.
