It was so peaceful and tranquil and beautiful and front desk was so kind and attentive.( Jack ) I took this trip bc life had been hard lately, I even ended up traveling alone. So staff made it that much better for me. I heard the ocean all night ( I opened a few windows from condo 11B) the condo was well equipped with everything!!!!! Literally. and so clean and beautiful no air conditioner needed:) ( they even had a few floor fans!! For those who need) omg also the shampoo & conditioner & body was etc...... I'm searching for that brand today my hair and skin feel like a million bucks!!! The jacuzzi was hot the pool was warm overlooking the ocean! They have to cutest cafe, that right now is decorated Christmas! Fireplace and all :) honestly don't want to go home. I believe I will be coming back regularly. Truly and hidden gem. read more

Wave Crest is the perfect location, and a great value. Love being so close to the ocean, as well as a short walk to the bars & restaurants. Everyone on staff was friendly, and the facilities were clean. My only gripe was that our Murphy Bed in the studio was old and extremely uncomfortable. The bed frame was so noisy we had a hard time sleeping because any time you move around, the bed creaks very loudly. Our pillows were also pretty small and easily fall between the bed and the wall. Each morning we woke up with stiff necks. I would love to return, but the bed frame and mattresses really need to be updated. read more

What a great find! I'm local but randomly decided to spend the night in Del Mar & I came across this place while taking my dog for a walk. Fortunately they had a vacancy & I booked a 1 bedroom for a night. The unit had a full kitchen, fully stocked with pots, pans, & dishes.Timothy at the front desk was beyond kind & welcoming. The unit I stayed in was super clean with a peak of a view of the ocean. I most definitely will be stalking this place for vacancies for a staycation. read more

Rude & racist staff, unfortunately. No ocean view is worth this type of harassment. As others have said, the spot is SO beautiful. But beware: not only are guests no welcoming to non-white people, but the staff is even worse. I stayed through a time share for 6 nights - even got an upgrade to an ocean view mid-week! It was so nice, I added an extra day, moving to my third room. First room: dirty knives & cups..literally food stuck to them, despite additional COVID "sanitation" measures Second room: repeated power outages requiring breaker reset Third room: NO privacy I was in the shower when the front desk called. I couldn't get to the phone. Twenty minutes later, three staff members came pounding on the door, not knocking, and insisted they smelled smoke in the room. Went on to say they smelled it in the two other rooms, though they didn't say anything when I spent more money (yet to be refunded) on this third room. And then informed me that the sheriffs had been called and I had 45 minutes to leave the property. I was terrified for my three Black friends, so we packed our bags and left as quickly as possible. I've never been kicked out of a hotel in my life, nor had my friends. This was beyond embarrassing - it was downright traumatizing. I have been a time share owner for 15 years and have stayed at many places. This is, by far, the very worst customer service I have ever received. read more

My husband booked this hotel for 2 nights through their website. Just two hours before we were going to check in, he received a call stating the hotel overbooked for the second night. He was told they will upgrade our room from a studio to a 1-bedroom and we will receive a refund for the second night. What the staff failed to mention is the refund has to be approved by someone who is not in the office until Monday. We then receive the refund 3-5 business days after approval. I had to call their office for this information as it was not told to us with the initial call regarding the refund. This is very disappointing as we now have to pay elsewhere with more funds while we wait on a refund. We tried to ask if they can accommodate us at another hotel to avoid having to spend even more money; they stated this is against their policy. When we called to ask about the refund process, we were told our room was ready to check-in early prior to 4pm. We arrived about an hour early in which there was a sign on the door stating the office staff will be back at 4pm. At this point, so many inconsistencies. With booking at another hotel, we would have to wait for their check-in time which is later than Wave Crests checkout time. We had to ask for a late checkout time and they only offered one additional hour. I did not inspect the sheets as the room looked to be clean. When I had woke up in the morning, there was a blood stain on my pillow that I assure you did not come from me. Not only is this disgusting, it's concerning as I'm pregnant and now I'm worried about germs from unclean sheets. It is unfortunate we were met with such disappointment as this hotel is located in a beautiful area of Del Mar. My husband and I are very understanding people and did not make a big fuss about any of the the disaster we were met with. However, it seems like we were unfairly mistreated with one thing after another falling through. We had to spend more money, wasted our time, met with uncleanliness, and just overall not accommodated. The fact that we had to ask for both the refund process and for any accommodations just shows that lack of hospitality this resort is missing. Their own website is not reliable as this is how we booked our stay and not through a third party. read more

My family has had a timeshare here for about 3 decades and it's always such a treat to get to stay here! It seems that several of the reviews knock off stars based on the resort being "outdated" or "not luxurious," which is a shame, because the beauty of Wave Crest has always been it's charming, cozy, beach cottage vibe. It's not trying to be a Ritz or Four Seasons, but more like a nice California beach style B&B (without the second 'B' or breakfast part). Location is perfect and within walking distance to so many great restaurants, boutiques, Seagrove Park, and of course, the beach! The pool is small, but the view can't be beat! Just a perfect little cliffside (heated) swimming pool and jacuzzi, complete with an outdoor shower and BBQ area. The landscaping and walkways around the property are very well maintained, and the units we get every year have always been clean, bright, and either have a full or partial view of the ocean. There's even a community room with complimentary tea and coffee daily, lounge area, movies, magazines, and daily newspapers. Sure it's a little "old school," I mean there are even still VHS players in the rooms, but all that just adds to it's charm. read more

My wife, daughter, and I booked a few days at Wave Crest for Thanksgiving. The only redeeming quality of this property is the location. It is right on the bluff, and Del Mar is lovely. But this resort was shabby and our stay there was marred by several issues, for which we received virtually no help. First, the cable remote control didn't work, which meant that we were stuck watching one channel. When we called the front desk and asked for help, we were told that they could call maintenance in the morning. We ended up going out to buy new batteries for the remote, and when we told them we had done that, we were told that the manager would not reimburse us for the cost. We don't want to quibble about a $4 pack of batteries, but that was just terrible customer service. We asked to speak to the manager and no one called us back. The big problem (and what prompted us to leave early and check into another hotel) was that the heat in the unit did not work, and the unit was freezing cold. We have a baby, and this was a big problem for us. When we asked if someone could fix the heat, we were told that they would look around for some space heaters. Finally, the toilet in our unit was broken. By this time, we were at our wit's end with this place and frustrated that no one had gotten back to us. They advertise texting as a way to get in touch with management, when in reality no one responds. We finally left and checked into a nice hotel down the street that had heat and a working toilet and tv. read more

This review is not to deter anybody from going to the facility I just want Pam the front desk lady to feel some sort of repercussions for her lack of customer service and poor judgements when talking to guests. And here's my spiel: My grandma has been at a owner for almost 40 years and for the last 31 years off and on I've come down to visit during that week when she staying there this time however driving in from Arizona with my two old dogs, one is blind, both are house broken and best of all quiet and well-behaved. But after suprising my Grandma with a visit with my dogs after maybe 10 minutes there's a knock at the door. Wouldn't you know there's Pam standing there and she does not look happy. apparently this year is different than all other years and now there is a waiver that needs to be signed and no dogs are allowed on the premise... except that I couldn't find that anywhere on their website and I had no idea of this before arriving there with my dogs. Pam, she was the most unprofessional rude lady I've ever encountered and I've had many many roles in customer service and sales positons. I'm a very understanding person but when you approach from a place like this PAM is bad for business. Hopefully you receive some training Pam I'm disgusted at the level of disrespect and attitude you brought to the door. My grandmother didn't bring the dogs in and when you were told to that I was leaving in a few minutes you yelled (not exaggerating) at her face "No dogs allowed" . My dogs were fine in the care for the remainder of our visit and back to AZ we drove. Furthermore after Pam's behaviour is corrected please reward her with some website updates! Your website, it's useless to the general public and visitors as it bears zero useful information minus the address and phone number . Disappointed is an understatement wave crest management... Cute, quaint and GREAT location! It's definitely not a resort and could probably use a refresh, however if you know that going in, you will enjoy. Walking distance to shops, restaurants... adjacent to a nice park with beach access. It has a small pool and BBQ area, too. The team members were all very kind and professional. They have a front desk person who is not friendly and not at all accommodating. Also they charge additional for late check out, so be aware of that. We stayed here as a last minute romantic getaway..and what a mistake it was. It is such a beautiful area in Del Mar, CA but has left us a bad (and itchy) taste in our mouth! Let's start off by calling the "resort" for reservations about a week prior. The person on the phone wasn't knowledgable nor very happy to be there. I should have gone with my gut feeling right then and there. The room was not ready upon arrival. So we walked on the beach for about an hour or 2 until it was...frustrating when you are so exhausted and just want to unpack! The rooms are VERY outdated and not luxurious. They reminded me of what an old retirement home/room should look and smell like. The AC was broken and so was the refrigerator in the room. (it gets worse...) I called to let the manager know and they weren't sincere nor even surprised that things weren't working in the room. The linens weren't in the best of shape, nor was the couch very clean. I'm not the OCD type of person by any means but I immediately started to itch!! (Yuck!!) I would save your money and time and do not plan on staying at this retirement center. The staff is rude, and unknowledgable. Not only will you be disappointed that you chose this place, will leave with are BED BUGS and LICE. read more

The first time we found this resort we were staying somewhere else, we stopped and chatted with Alex. He went over all that was available to us and how to go about renting. We went home, came back in July (9B). Love it. Went home and rented again. This time we spent the last two weeks at this resort (10B). Thank you Alex, Pam, Jose and all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable. One of our "good mornings" (after two days we stopped watching) was to sort of watch how the "staff" was constantly on the move of cleaning, checking up on the guests, fussing with every detail around the resort. Unit 10B (wish we owned it) was perfectly placed for the great high view. Our morning and evening walks added to the whole package. Looking forward to return in 2020. I think they are remodeling (not sure). The place is clean, painted, furniture looks and feels new and then .....there is the view!!!!! The park is next door, you walk to the beach, no need to fight/find a parking space. And you can walk to the local restaurants, join the local library( $10) and if you must there is always the TV. Items that needed to be fix were promptly taken care off. On our check out day we were asked for our input and if there was anything that needed extra care or changes. NICE. It is not "uber" luxurious, it is a nice/clean/down to earth place just to come and relax, enjoy the view and just chill out. When you hear that people have owned their units for 20/30 years and/or pass it on to their family, it shows that people care and someone must be doing something right. We are happy that it is a "no pet" resort. PS: We are going to keep checking for 2020 to see what we are able to get -hopefully is 10B. read more

Wave Crest is truly a gem. Located on a bluff overlooking the ocean, the view cannot be beat if you are in a unit located on the bluff or overlooking the park. Located minutes walk to the beach or to local shops and restaurants, you can park your car and relax. I would ignore older reviews as Wave Crest is now under new management. read more

This place is located right next to the beach...just walk the around the corner and you are on it. Beach water is warm and clean. Alot of surfers and resturants within walking distances. There's two small parks thats does wedding ceremonies. This place is a timeshare resort. Cleaned and located in a safe neighbordhood, however parking can be limited since its first come. There's street parking, but can't park there on 1st Monday of the month 8-10AM. The studio room are small, but you polly can squeeze in a twin size airbed comfortably. The negative part is the pool closed at 10pm. There's a laundry room, bbq, and recreation room to utilize. The room comes with free internet. read more

What a wonderful place for a vacation. The staff are all truly helpful and did everything to accommodate us on our first time here. Lindsey and Pamela went out of their way for us on check in and regardless of what you read on the negative side from others staff couldn't be more friendly and willing to assist. Being right on the ocean means great ocean breezes. True there is no air conditioning and for maybe an hour during the day you may wish you had it,but then again that's what the beach or the pool are for, to cool off. Yes, there is a commuter train runs right by the oceanfront but it's no more noise than traffic on the street every during the day. You zone it out quickly. Great place! No need to bring anything but your bathing suit. read more

I stayed at Wavecrest for two weeks in late December and early January 2014. The first week was in a 1 BR and the second week was in a 2 BR. The grounds are immaculate and the 80 degree salt water pool was a joy. It's a 360 degree pool with a 180 degree view of the Pacific. The landscaping is just incredible at this property. You are smack on the ocean and adjacent to Seagrove Park, which is "the" place in Del Mar, and also a fab playground. You can walk to every restaurant in town and most have great happy hours! My car barely moved the entire time we were there! As for the decor, they are going through a multi-phase process of upgrading the property. At worst, it's "beachy". That said, I had a wonderful bed in each of the two units. The housekeeping staff is amazing. I asked for two cookie sheets (my girls wanted to bake) and they were delivered within minutes. They come daily to empty trash and bi-weekly to clean and provide fresh towels and linens. In general, the front desk staff is great. There is one guy who is less than wonderful. Everyone seems to know who that is. When I could not figure out how to work the DVD player, the desk person gave it her all until it was resolved. We had guests from SoCal visit us and they were over the moon about Wave Crest. It's not a luxurious hotel but it's a great California beach experience. From our room we saw whales, seals and dolphins almost daily! Bring your binoculars. Be aware: there is a train track below the property along the bluff and there is the occasional horn blast from the short little commuter trains and, once a week or so a long freight train. You either have to embrace the train or stay somewhere else. Just don't whine about it once you are there. It's part of the experience. Del Mar is a tiny peaceful town and the locals and shop owners are very friendly. Enjoy! read more
