On May 15, 2026, what should have been a relaxing dinner at Ember & Rye at Park Hyatt Aviara became…read morean incredibly upsetting experience. My husband had just finished working six consecutive shifts at the fire department, and we were simply looking forward to a nice evening together. As we entered the parking lot, two men in a golf cart crossed in front of our vehicle. My husband honked, and there was later a brief verbal exchange about what had happened. There were no threats or physical confrontation from us, and we believed the matter was over. Later, while we were still seated at our dinner table, a woman we had never met approached us and began questioning us about the parking-lot interaction. She told us that she and her husband were club members, repeatedly referenced their membership, said she had never seen us there before, and told us she "didn't want any problems in the future." I cannot speak to what she intended, but the encounter made both of us feel intimidated, unwelcome, and extremely uncomfortable. We later learned that an Aviara Country Club member event was being held at the restaurant that evening. After dinner, we discovered that our vehicle had been extensively damaged while parked on the property. Carlsbad Police investigated, and surveillance footage from the property documented what occurred. An individual associated with the earlier parking-lot encounter became the alleged suspect during the investigation. Our vehicle ultimately sustained nearly $15,000 in repair costs. I am intentionally not identifying anyone or making any statement about guilt. I am simply describing what my husband and I experienced that evening. What has disappointed us most is Park Hyatt Aviara's response afterward. I personally contacted hotel management and was told that Hyatt was cooperating with police, which we appreciated. We were also told that someone from Aviara Golf Club management would contact us to discuss what happened. That call never came. I understand that a hotel cannot control the actions of every person on its property, and I am not assigning legal responsibility to Hyatt. My concern is how we were treated as guests after such a serious and disturbing experience. We experienced an uncomfortable confrontation during dinner, left to discover nearly $15,000 in damage to our vehicle, and had to involve law enforcement. Yet we never felt the level of concern, communication, or follow-through we expected from a five-star property. That is what has been most disappointing. We chose Park Hyatt Aviara because we expected exceptional hospitality and guest care consistent with the Park Hyatt name. Instead, we left feeling uncomfortable, unsupported, and profoundly disappointed. I sincerely hope Park Hyatt Aviara considers how guests are cared for when something goes seriously wrong during their visit.

I really loved the way they received you when you get there. They give you apple cider in little cute glasses. Making you feel very special. Then when you leave they don't even care. On another places at least they ask you how was your stay. Here they just ignored you. They gave us 2 aluminum water bottles with their name on them. They were pretty but a little bent. The beds smelled clean and the mattresses felt comfortable. You could not jump in them but they were comfy. The bathroom and the shower were very clean and ample. We had have very hard time with the coffee machine. It was not very easy to use. They had couple of coffee pods and they were good. When we finally learn how to used it. We asked for a room with a view and our view was from the side not in front of the beach. It was still a good view just not how we imagined. The hotel it's very close to the beach. We went to the pool and it's at roof top one. It had a nice view to the ocean. We took a very nice sunset picture from there. They had the big pool and some jacuzzis. There was some guest there. It was nice it was not over crowded. At night we were going around to the next door hotel that happened to partners. They had a big bar and music. It was very nice and plenty of people having a good time. Sadly we couldn't stay because we had minors with us. I would comeback and stay here again. It was a pleasant stay. I just felt ignored when we left. Forgot to mention we found an empty used drink can in the fridge and used note pad. Details that make a difference. It makes you think they ate it very thorough when cleaning.

Depending on my energy level, I will sometimes take a yoga class prior to my massage. If this review were solely for the Spa, it would be hands down a 5 star! However, it is also for the restaurant by the pool where most of us go post-treatment for lunch. Yesterday I had Lila, & as soon as I put in my order, she had asked if I were staying there & since I was not a hotel guest, she asked me upfront for my card on file. Typically when I have gone there for lunch, they wait until the end to charge you out and/or assist you with the bill. It felt a bit off, considering that after I sat down, another Caucasian lady and her daughter found a spot to sit near me. Alex was their server, & as he took the order, he didn't ask if they were hotel guests &/or if he could put their card on file. Later I happened to walk by the bar area where the servers hang out, & I asked to speak with Lila. I let her know I have been coming here for years & no one has ever asked for me to give them my card on file upfront. I asked her if they have had a few Dine n' Dash situations? She let me know she has been there under a year but she has been asking for cards b/c some people think their food is taken care of when they leave the pool & then check out for their treatments. As a result, they are out of tips and can't go after the customers. I told her it is disappointing to hear that at such a nice place at Rancho Valencia that people would do such a thing. Even if people are coming for the first time, most humans would ask what is the best way to charge out and work it out with the waiter and/or when I have been there, the waiter or waitress will ask if I need anything else, and if not, then they will bring me the check (or I tell them hey I am ready to cash out). I had just had a fabulous massage with Noel (who is my new favorite therapist there) so to have this awkward experience when I am ready to eat and relax by the pool was really not great. To be fair, there are regulars who go there, but it was clear that she didn't recognize me & so decided to ask me upfront for my card. Whereas Alex another server, helping customers next to me, didn't ask the Caucasian lady for her card upfront. And what is so funny is that when the Caucasian lady got her food, the order was all wrong - they put dressing in her salad, put tofu on the side, and put bacon in her salad when she asked for bacon to be taken out etc. Alex was super apologetic for the mix-up in the kitchen, and the whole time I kept thinking, I wished he were my server because he was so nice and treated the lady next to me the way I have always been treated -when I have come here. Lila was more defensive and kept saying "Oh we ask for cards here and you can speak to my manager etc." I didn't come out and ask why there was a disparity from how she asked for my card upfront versus how other servers just took orders like a normal restaurant and then let guests relax and pay at the end. I still love this SPA and will come to get a treatment, but the inequality I felt from being asked for my card upfront was a subtle jab that made my overall experience not as pleasant.

My room was clean and comfortable. It felt like I had a little apartment on the property. I loved the variety of items in the gift shop. I came to the resort for my last night in San Diego to decompress from seeing my best friend who has terminal cancer and so I wasn't my typical self. Again, Sidney was extremely empathetic. I truly hope my friend can get out of the hospital so I can fly down again and treat her to a stay at Estancia La Jolla. Thank you so much, Sidney. Your kindness will stay in my heart. Edit: I've been thinking about my experience at Estancia. My flight out of San Diego was cancelled, so I had to book a stay at a Hampton Inn near the airport. It's a third of the price I paid to stay at Estancia, but the service here made me remember that if NOT for Sidney taking such good care of me, my review would be a one star. Honestly, I would have preferred that the issues I experienced there never even happened. Using AMEX Fine Hotels you have an expectation of the property going that extra mile. The fact that there are over 900 reviews on here and the property does not respond to any of the reviews makes me question whether they really care. It would seem that they don't.

My first room was adorable. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I love the unique layout of the rooms. I also enjoyed the pool, complimentary member drinks, and the overall property. That first evening I called for a wine opener and was told someone would bring one up, but nobody ever came. I eventually went downstairs to get one myself. Not a huge deal, but unfortunately it became the first of several instances where I was told someone would follow up and nobody did. The next day was great. I enjoyed the pool and a fitness class and had an amazing bartender. I was having such a good time that I decided to extend my stay another night. That's when everything went downhill. My new room was EXTREMELY hot. Maintenance came up and said it was 78 degrees and that there appeared to be an HVAC issue. After waiting around 40 minutes I ended up sitting in my car because the room was so uncomfortable. The front desk moved me to another room and told me a manager would call regarding compensation. Nobody called. Later that evening I returned to find the replacement room incredibly hot as well. It honestly felt cooler outside. I was told they would send somebody right up to get me moved again. Thirty minutes later, still no one. At this point it was around 10:30 PM, I had already switched rooms once, and I wasn't willing to pack everything up and move into a THIRD room with no guarantee the AC would work that late at night. I decided to check out and find another hotel. Unfortunately, the evening manager made the situation even worse. Instead of being understanding, he was rude and dismissive and pointed out that I had previously agreed to switch rooms. Yes, I agreed before waiting over 30 minutes with no one having shown up. I was told they would check me out and a manager would contact me regarding a refund. Nobody did. I called the next day and was again told someone would call me back. Nobody did. I finally called again the following day and reached someone who resolved the situation. Initially, I was only offered a waived resort fee, which I found unreasonable considering I paid nearly $500 for a room without functioning AC, moved rooms once, and ultimately had to leave late at night and pay for another hotel. After several calls the issue was finally resolved, which I appreciated, but it should not have taken that much effort. It's frustrating because there is so much I genuinely love about Omni La Costa. The property is beautiful, the beds are comfortable, the adults only pool is fantastic, and they offer tons of activities and fitness classes. I've stayed here multiple times because I enjoy the resort. Unfortunately, the customer service during this stay was seriously lacking. Between the HVAC issues, lack of follow through, repeated promises of callbacks that never happened, and the attitude of the evening manager, the experience left a really bad taste in my mouth. I still think it's a beautiful resort, and most of my previous stays have been wonderful, but this particular stay was extremely disappointing.

I called the next day and was told the resort was overbooked. The solution? Ship me to Sea Wave Resort, which is a downgrade. Apparently, "sister resort" now means lower standards, same disappointment. I asked to be moved to L'Auberge--you know, the place they're affiliated with and even do check-ins for. Suddenly, I'm told they're "not the same company." Interesting, since L'Auberge magically had availability that weekend. Guess problem-solving was sold out too. RCI confirmed that overbooking is not an approved reason to relocate guests. Andrew Faiella, the GM, was about as helpful as the last-minute email. It wasnt a big deal to us since it was during the afternoon. The room was spacious and had high end furnishing. I did enjoy being able to walk around the property from one restaurant to another or just for sightseeing. You get your workout that way. There are several restaurants inside the property so you dont really have to leave just to eat. I would like to also comment on their catering since we get to experience them during our work meetings at one of their meeting room along with a hosted dinner on one of the nights that we were there. Thats where I had to deduct one star. It was a hit or miss. The weekday lunch and dinner werent the greatest. My partner and I felt it was lacking in flavor. The NY steak that they served for dinner was more on the rare side. I do not mind it but maybe cook it just a little bit longer. We had to improvise on seasoning it too. Like what I would always say "its better under seasoned that over seasoned" as you cant do much if the food is too salty. They might have a different chef on weekends as the catered lunch was really good on saturday. Thr food was perfectly seasoned. Definitely no complaints there. I am looking forward to staying here again in the future maybe for a staycation.
