Book this beautiful resort via Amex site. Located in Encinitas by coast hey 101. 30miles from San Diego. The hotel is sort of the middle of nowhere. The point is for relax and enjoy. Parking: Valet only $60 overnight Concierge and receptionist table is very simple and 1 person helping only, she is Super duper sweet and helpful. She checked us in, and since we booked via Amex, we received complimentary: - Suite upgrades - early check in - guarantee 4pm check out - daily breakfast for 2 - In room wifi - and $150 resort credit apply for restaurant, spa etc. This place has a e-bike, paddle board an surf board for guests to use anytime complimentary. If you happened to stay in 2nd floor, which they only have 3 floors, where Vaga restaurant is, to find your room is kinda tricky. Look at the signage and the room are through the double door, on your left when you face the restaurant. It requires your keycard access to enter through the double door. The room is so relaxing,the vibe is comforting. It has complimentary coffee, nespresso tea and bottle water. You can ask for more water at concierge. Look at the real life I believe eucalyptus stem on top of the shower head, love it. There's also a gym and spa in 1st floor, also access to beach. We asked for recommended restaurant around the area, she gave a 4 pages list of restaurant and little shops 2nd floor - has venue area with spacious gathering area and balcony overlooking the beach. Evening: you can enjoy cocktails on VAGA restaurant overlooking the beach with outdoor fireplace and patio. Fyi: the room has thin walls. We can hear ppl talking, walking, running on hall way every moment. So on our final bill: They comp all our daily breakfast including tips and room service delivery. They automatically deduct $150 resort credit regardless you spend under. It will apply to any other fees. Like it because they don't Knicks pick every single expenses, that shows their reputation and their hotel guests matter over little charges. Overall, love this place. Will definitely come back. My wife and I recently took a trip to San Diego, and for one night, we stayed at the Alila Maria Beach Resort Encinitas. While we loved the resort room we were assigned, the water and the sunset, and the VAGA restaurant, we had some challenges with checking in that impacted our stay and made us question whether it was worth our visit. As a Hyatt Globalist, I took advantage of a Suite Upgrade Award in advance to get upgraded to a one-bedroom suite with a nice balcony. Also, as we were needing to depart first thing in the morning, we only had the day of arrival to enjoy the resort, so we also requested an early check-in, which we were told would likely be able to be offered (when we called 24 hours in advance). We requested a noon check-in as we made the reservation using American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts, which offered this as a benefit based on availability. Not only were we not offered an early check-in of noon, the room was not available until 4 PM. As such, we ended up being unable to use the resort amenities as we had dinner reservations and then after watching the sunset, had a low-key evening after it was dark out. When we finally got keys to our room, which was a long walk from the front desk, our keys were not even programmed correctly. We were glad that some staff found us in front of our room unsuccessfully trying to get in. They went to the front desk for us to exchange our room keys with ones that worked. The suite itself was wonderful with a nice living room and a spacious bathroom and bedroom. It had a lovely balcony that we watched the sunset on. It was also near the pool and easy viewing of the water and area. Also, we received four chocolate truffles as guests within the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts program. While we were also celebrating a birthday, Alila Marea Beach Resort doesn't provide additional amenities for the occasion; however, they acknowledged the birthday at check-in, and during our dinner reservation at VAGA Restaurant, they did provide a birthday dessert. We absolutely loved the VAGA Restaurant and the manager and staff there along with the delicious food and drinks. I wrote a separate 5-star review for the VAGA Restaurant on Yelp. We booked a Fine Hotels + Resorts offer that included early (noon) check-in when available and late (4 PM) checkout guaranteed, room upgrade when available, daily breakfast, $150 credit which we used for a nice dinner, and welcome amenity. We were unable to receive an upgrade the day of our arrival nor an early check-in, and we were unable to take advantage of the late check-out. Thanks to my Hyatt Globalist benefits, complimentary breakfast and other benefits like complimentary dishes at VAGA for dinner and breakfast, the breakfast from Fine Hotel & Resorts was not needed. The Globalist access also waived the $55 daily resort fee, which included 2 welcome beverages, 2 water bottles, access to the fitness center, beach access with chairs, umbrella, and towels, a weekly sound bath experience (not while we were there), and local transportation within 3 miles of property. Again, if we only could have enjoyed some of the resort's amenities, this would have included so many ways to spend our time. All in all, this seemed like a wonderful resort, though my wife and I were unable to experience that. I would strongly advise anyone planning to go to Alila Maria Beach Resort for only one night to find another hotel to stay at. On the other hand, if you plan a full weekend or several days, it sounds like this resort could offer a lot. We simply didn't feel it was a place for a "special occasion" or that we were valued as customers, even as Hyatt Globalists and AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts customers. read more

Reading the reviews almost talked me out of booking this place. But, it's quite amazing to be honest. In-person hotel experience is somewhere between the Marriott and the Ritz. I specify in-person because calling them on the phone to confirm details was terrible. AI agent phone screen and then when a real person picked up, he seemed to have zero answers about the property and the amenities. In-person though, the service was fantastic. Friendly staff and guest services showing up at lightning speed left me speechless. Called down for extra slippers, and guest services showed up within 5 minutes. Asked for water as well and he returned within 2 minutes. Swear the staff must be sprinting or something. The rooms are great. We got a lagoon view, which while not as beautiful as an ocean view, was quite nice. We had a view of the freeway and a parking lot, but in the not-so-far distance, there was a nice view of the lagoon. The room. patio, and shower are all massive. Even at 100% capacity and a wedding happening during our stay, we never felt like it was too crowded. No loud noises throughout the night either. read more

Although it sits close to the main road, the hotel feels quietly tucked into the edge of the ocean--a low, four-story retreat that opens itself to the sea. What I loved most was the room, especially the shower. It had a thoughtfully designed, thick glass door that opened easily. In most hotels, I hesitate before turning on the water, bracing for that sudden burst of heat overhead. But here, everything was arranged with care, so I could step in comfortably and enjoy the shower without that small anxiety. The details in the room made it even better--a Nespresso machine ready for a slow morning, and a proper water kettle, which always feels like a small luxury. The bed was soft and welcoming, the kind you sink into at the end of a long day. We didn't have an ocean view, but the patio had its own charm--quiet, intimate, and enough to make you pause. The best part, though, was the beach. Just a short walk down the stairs, and your feet meet the sand. The shoreline isn't wide, but it stretches beautifully along the coast. I found myself walking there in the mornings and again in the evenings, letting the rhythm of the waves mark the day. It's been way too long since I've been at Alila Marea. This was my 3rd stay. My month long birthday celebration begins here for a weekend with my daughter. Alila is very responsive by text before I checked in. Valet was busy on this weekend. I do love that they open the door as you enter though. Check in was at a desk where you sit. I love this! Jonathan did a great job of checking me in. My room was the firepit room which was stunning. The view is the sideways view of the ocean and the Lagoon. I loved the fire pit. The room itself was spacious, clean and comfortable. Room service came right away to deliver my birthday gift from Alila. That was very much appreciated! Having been here 2 times before, the drop in star was due to the beach butler. The service from the beach butler has gone down considerably. Alila Marea Beach Resort is perched atop a seaside bluff along the Pacific Ocean and the Southern California coastline in Encinitas. It's in the luxury category under the Hyatt brand. The resort has restaurants (Vaga, The Pocket), coffee shops (Coffee Box), and an on-site spa. The pool and hot tub overlook the ocean with wifi throughout the resort. The resort only has three floors so it's a smaller hotel. Our bed was comfortable (although the pillows were not) and the bathroom was beautiful. We had an outdoor patio with a couple seats. We were on the second floor where we had partial coastline views. It was really relaxing waking up with views of the water. The service was great and the staff was really friendly helping us get around the hotel when we were lost with our bags. The location was great with a close proximity to San Diego if you want city vibes but has the small town vibe with downtown Encinitas only 10 minutes away. read more

I did a staycation Wednesday, September 3 through Friday, September 5. The staff greeted me right away and valet took my car as soon as I pulled in. That said, valet parking isn't cheap - $60 per night just to stay, and I believe $10 if you're only visiting the bar or restaurant. Negatives: Communication from the front desk and restaurant staff was inconsistent. I was told yoga was at 9 AM, so I rushed through breakfast to make it, only to find out it was actually at 8 AM that day. On Friday, they offered both 8 and 9:15 AM classes, but the confusion threw off my plans. I was also told the restaurant closed at 10 PM, but on weekdays it actually closes at 9 unless it's the weekend. Breakfast with the AMEX perk was another point of confusion. The $45 credit is structured as a main, a side, and a beverage, but I would have preferred the flexibility to use the credit however I wanted. One employee said a mimosa counted, then the next day someone else told me it didn't. On the plus side, one server gave me a heads-up that the breakfast sandwich had lamb sausage, something not listed on the menu, which I wouldn't have expected and was not told my the other server who recommended it the previous day. Dinner prices were extremely high. The halibut was delicious, but $68 with no sides feels excessive. The lack of fitness classes also surprised me for a four-star hotel, and their fitness center was basic with no stairmaster. The cold plunge was out of order during my stay, my in-room phone didn't work so I couldn't call dining, and at checkout I was charged incorrectly for breakfast. I was told I'd receive an updated receipt by email but never did. Positives: Every employee I interacted with was friendly and welcoming. VAGA is stunning at sunset, whether you sit on the terrace with an ocean view, by the outdoor fireplaces, or indoors at the lounge. They even had live music and the NFL game playing Thursday night. The pool area was a highlight - beautiful, with an infinity Jacuzzi and shaded lounge chairs. Staff came around often to refill water, and the chicken bites by the pool were fantastic. They also had a solid cocktail and wine list. Yoga itself was wonderful once I got the timing right. The instructor was warm and even remembered my name, which made it feel more personal. The setting, right between the pool and the ocean, made it especially relaxing. The rooms were gorgeous with great views, and the property was easy to navigate. They also have a no kids policy so that made it more relaxing. Overall: It's a beautiful hotel with genuinely kind staff, a great pool, and memorable views. But between the $60 nightly valet, lack of fitness classes or extra activities, inconsistent communication, and overpriced dining, I'm not sure I'd return. The location, rooms, and staff at Alila Encinitas are up to par. Unfortunately, the overall experience was not worth the price. This property operates much like any other Hyatt, meaning it frequently hosts large corporate events. My fiancee and I booked a three-day stay as a quiet Valentine's getaway after I had to travel for work. We were hoping for a relaxing resort and spa experience and paid top dollar for it. Instead, most of the property had been rented out for a Mazda corporate event. The hotel was filled with SUVs, film crews, social media teams, and name tagged company employees. It felt more like a production set than a luxury retreat. Hallways were busy, and large sections of the bar and common areas were reserved exclusively for the event. We both work production, it is literally the last thing we want to see on little getaway. One evening, we tried to enjoy a cocktail on the patio, only to find ourselves surrounded by employees two of whom had fallen asleep in their chairs at the bar!!!!! On our final morning, we went out to our firepit patio in our robes to enjoy the ocean view, only to have a drone flying overhead while dozens of employees and Mazada customers with over 20 cars lined up for what appeared to be test drives. It was 8am. In addition, much of the landscaping throughout the property appeared neglected. Many of the plants looked dry, unhealthy, and in need of serious attention, which further took away from the "luxury resort" atmosphere you would expect at this price point. We paid for a peaceful escape but spent most of our stay navigating around corporate activity. While the hotel refunded a portion of the resort fees, it didn't come close to compensating for the nearly $1,700 we spent to feel like extras in a marketing shoot. This experience was completely unacceptable for a property at this price point. I strongly recommend choosing another hotel, or at least calling ahead to make sure a large corporate event won't be taking over the property during your stay. read more

I loved everything about our stay here at Alila!! The property is gorgeous, the views were spectacular and every staff we interacted with was super friendly!! The service was top tier! Our room was on the third floor with the oceanfront view and the balcony was huge!! Literally top 5 best views from any hotels I've stayed at. Loved waking up to this view with the sound of the ocean. I had a girls getaway with my friend and our two toddlers and it was such a nice and relaxing stay! We didn't get to go to the spa because we had our kids but next time, I definitely want to check out the spa. The front concierge was so kind and helpful since we had little ones and they brought us cribs (very large and comfy ones) for our toddlers to sleep in! They also gave them cute little bracelets and cookies during check-in which so sweet! Little gestures like this definitely will leave a huge impression on guests so I was pleasantly surprised :) I highly recommend booking here for a nice beautiful relaxing getaway with or without kids! This place is terrible. We arrived after a long day to check into our room with our child and were told we couldn't because of a 2 guest per room policy, he's 4. They wanted us to purchase an entirely separate room to sleep separately. We've stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world and have never heard of this policy. It was a 2 queen bedroom. They were cold & like robots when they kept repeating the policy as my son was crying bc we had to leave. Seems a bit greedy to me. Not a good experience, we'll never be back. read more

This Hyatt property is immaculately maintained and has an attentive well trained staff. Especially Ismael on the front desk and Chad and John in Valet parking. All were friendly professional and helpful. Our room had a nice shady terrace with a spectacular view. We kept the slider open all night for those cool ocean breezes. The bed was super comfortable and featured fresh linens. I loved the shower room too. Also enjoyable is the main hotel restaurant called Vaga. Globalists will enjoy a delicious breakfast. And we enjoyed the smoked whitefish on grilled sourdough bread with poached eggs. Add fresh squeezed OJ and coffee and you day is off to a yummy good start. Breakfast with the Wagu was amazing! Drinks were amazing, especially the spicy tequila. Waiter's were very attentive! Stayed out by the Vaga bar because loved being outside. Slept in till 9am, which we never do because we loved hearing the sounds of the waves. Rooms were perfectly decorated and supplied. Francisco was so much fun to speak with and what a neat guy. Honestly from San Diego to Malibu, you have the best hotel/location on the whole coast. Comments for the chair massage...I tried the chair massage but not a fan, would rather see the hair and nail place back but I get how it's too close to the massage room and the dryer noise might be a problem. It would also be nice to have a little more in the spa shop for things to buy...I love hotel boutique shops because they carry the cutest clothes. Your IG is nicely done, however, I would post on your social media the e-bikes that are available to guest. This place is an absolute disgrace to the Hyatt brand. I stayed at Alila Marea expecting a luxury resort -- instead, I got a flooded bathroom, filthy conditions, and rude staff who lie straight to your face. Our shower kept flooding the entire bathroom floor. I reported it multiple times, and every single time they said, "We'll send someone right up." No one came. When "engineering" finally did show up days later, they walked all over the soaked towels, tracked dirt through the bathroom, and then left without fixing a thing. They didn't even bother to clean up after themselves. Management promised to refund the Hyatt points I used to book this nightmare stay. That was weeks ago. I've now had to call EIGHT separate times, and still haven't been refunded the full amount. Every time I call, I get a different excuse and more empty promises. Cadene was unbelievably rude -- told me the refund would be processed and then just never did it. That was already the fifth time they failed to follow through. When I finally spoke with Matt, instead of apologizing, he told me the refund "shouldn't have been issued" and acted like I was the problem. He said he'd "take care of the remaining 10k points" but was just as condescending and dismissive as the rest of the staff. This hotel is a joke. Zero accountability, zero professionalism, and absolutely no respect for guests. Don't waste your money or your points here -- there are plenty of real luxury properties in the area that actually care about their guests. Alila Marea is the definition of fake luxury -- looks nice on the outside, but behind the scenes it's pure chaos, incompetence, and attitude. read more

This is a gorgeous oceanfront resort in Encinitas. Beautifully designed rooms, very modern, with nespresso coffee machines, great bath products and complimentary (alkaline) bottled water. The ocean views are stunning. Bike and surf board rentals are included in the resort fee ($55) Valet parking is $60 per day, I don't believe self parking is an option. Onsite restaurant Vaga offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food is decent, nothing spectacular. Malika at check in was super awesome, had our room ready before check in time. She explained all the resort facilities very well and even got us an upgrade! read more

For the past three summers, I have been bringing my family to this beautiful resort. My son has always looked forward to our annual trip, as Alila Marea became his favorite beach destination. Imagine our disappointment today when we went to book our summer trip for this year only to discover that children are no longer welcome at the resort. It's been extremely difficult explaining to my 10-year-old why he can no longer visit a place that holds so many happy memories for him. This policy change is particularly shocking given that the resort was always filled with families during our previous stays. I find it surprising that a resort in California would implement such an exclusionary policy. What was once our favorite family tradition has now been taken away without warning. I expected slightly more for this resort. It's a 3.5 stars for me. -room was spacious and felt nice. Amazing view of the ocean. Can cast on to TV from smart devices. Somethings were not 5 star quality- showers looked great from a far with sleek matte fixtures. Up close it was caked in hard water crusting and the handles had rust. I was on the 2nd floor and the balcony setup was odd. You can see right on yo the patio of floor 1 which extends out past the limit of your balcony. People who are sitting by their fireside patio of their rooms below you can look up and see you...not much for privacy. The chairs on the balcony were very comfy. -spa accommodations fell somewhat short as well. There is only a sauna. If you wanted jacuzzi you gotta go to the pool which is not close to the spa. The relaxation area was so small. There were 4 lounge chairs, 2 on each side facing each other. Would be nice for some curtains so you are not looking at a stranger while trying to sip your tea of relax. Staff were very polite and nice. Suzanne did an amazing job with the massage and was very accommodating to my requests. read more

My wife and I toured this hotel while wedding venue searching and fell in love with it. The pool and back terrace overlook the ocean, as well as some of the rooms (facing the ocean or facing the lagoon/beach to the side of the property). After booking the hotel, our event sales manager (Jackie P) was able to assist us throughout the entire planning process. The hotel has an approved vendor list that you can choose from to help you narrow down your choices. This was really helpful and made the wedding planning process a lot easier. As for the hotel itself, it is relatively small with 3 floors. The positive is that you don't have to walk very far to leave or to get to your room. The South Ponto Beach is also directly accessible from the back of the hotel - you just have to go down 3 flights of stairs. For our room, we went with the king bed with fireplace terrace. The room was immaculate when we checked in. The shower gel they give you was a tad small, but you can easily request more from housekeeping. There are not many lights in the room, but you can get a lot of natural light with the blinds open. One con for the room was that there was no fan in the toilet or shower area. Overnight parking for your vehicle is valet only and is a bit pricey ~ $60. read more

The ladies who run it are so warm and welcoming--they remember your drink and make you feel right at home. Living on the edge like Aerosmith, this place was great! Me and my wife went down for an early Memorial Day trip. It was our first time at an Alila resort and so I am happy to say that they have set a nice bar for the brand. Prior to our arrival I was glad to receive a text from the hotel in preparation for our stay. I have status with the Hyatt brand and so I appreciated them anticipating our needs and requests before our check-in. Upon check-in, we were greeted by a wonderful signature scent that will remind me of the class and and calm of this beautiful resort. Melika was the front desk agent and she was pleasant and welcoming to us. She was a great steward of the hotel and the surrounding area. She presented us with a complimentary punch, me with a note from the hotel, and a nice bracelet which were all nice gestures from the hotel. The staff that we came in contact with was all professional and attentive. From drinks and dining at Vaga and the Pocket to the valet, everyone was nice. I had read that they were understaffed so I was worried, but everyone provided great service. I want to mention that Alexis from Vaga provided exemplary service and we appreciated it. The food and drinks were delicious and we loved the presentation and flavor of EVERYTHING that we ordered from hotel restaurants. We stayed in a coastline view room on the third floor. It was clean and comfortable for the most part. The bed was comfortable but both my wife and I felt like the pillows could have been better.Overall we liked the room and the quality of the stay. We loved the eucaplytus leaves hanging over the shower as it added to the relaxing vibe of the hotel. The hotel is modern, spacious, and clean. It has a nice gym and although the pool is on the smaller side, it's heated and relaxing. We enjoyed lounging and the views from the bluffs with the birds flying by and the music being played poolside. Another thing that I like to note is that the halls seemed to be wide and with accessibility in mind I like that the halls didn't feel narrow. We don't have any accessibility needs but the halls looked like they would be wide enought to accomodate wheelchairs. We had a great time at the Alila Marea and look forward to returning next time we're in San Diego County. We've been to many of the Hyatt properties in the area, and this one was a unique and relaxing experience that we would reccommend to others that want a nice relaxing getaway. read more
