We stayed at Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas, perched right along the coastline. Although it sits close to the main road, the hotel feels quietly tucked into the edge of the ocean--a low, four-story retreat that opens itself to the sea. What I loved most was the room, especially the shower. It had a thoughtfully designed, thick glass door that opened easily. In most hotels, I hesitate before turning on the water, bracing for that sudden burst of heat overhead. But here, everything was arranged with care, so I could step in comfortably and enjoy the shower without that small anxiety. The details in the room made it even better--a Nespresso machine ready for a slow morning, and a proper water kettle, which always feels like a small luxury. The bed was soft and welcoming, the kind you sink into at the end of a long day. We didn't have an ocean view, but the patio had its own charm--quiet, intimate, and enough to make you pause. The best part, though, was the beach. Just a short walk down the stairs, and your feet meet the sand. The shoreline isn't wide, but it stretches beautifully along the coast. I found myself walking there in the mornings and again in the evenings, letting the rhythm of the waves mark the day. That simple routine--down the stairs, onto the sand--became the most memorable part of the stay.

Alila Marena Beach Resort offers guests a luxury, yet mellow stay with spacious and modern rooms. The pool was mediocre and the service was painfully slow. However, watching the sunset on the California Coastline from the infinity hot tub was incredible and definitely social media worthy. I loved that the dry sauna had a glass window, offering all the benefits of the sauna while also providing a beautiful view of the ocean.

*BAR REVIEW* Convienently located between OC and SD, overlooking the gorgeous Pacific Ocean, the bar has an unobstructed view of the sunset. They have HH, excuse to have a 3rd. The blueberry tini was so refreshing

Location 5/5 Service 6/5 Food 5/5 Amenities 3.5/5 Had a fantastic 5-day stay at Alila. Location: Truly a standout, just steps from the beach with beautiful ocean views. While the beach is full of stones, it was perfect for peaceful mornings and runs. Service: Absolutely exceptional. The staff consistently went above and beyond and genuinely seem to love what they do. Cori warmly greeted us at check-in and surprised us with a thoughtful in-room treat for our 10-year anniversary. At Vaga, Patrick anticipated my coffee order and had my dirty chai waiting at the table. Additional shoutouts to Abraham, Christian, and Lynn. The valet team was incredibly efficient and hardworking, and we never waited long for our car. Special thanks to Ricky for recommending dog-friendly places to visit during our stay, and to Gus and Noah for being so welcoming and kind throughout. Food: Outstanding. Breakfast and dinner at Vaga exceeded expectations. Breakfast favorites included the kimchi fried rice, salmon tostada, breakfast sandwich, and delicious pastries made by Annie. Dinner highlights were the pork tomahawk, duck carnitas, and broccolini. Amenities: Standard resort gym. The sauna and heated pool were often busy, so I did not get a chance to use them. Valet-only parking is convenient, but it can add up on longer stays. Also, I've been to Alila Napa, so was compared that this hotel didn't have the same soaking tub and Le Labo toiletries. Callout- One day we were accidentally charged for a meal, and we are still waiting to hear back, likely due to the holidays. Overall, a wonderful stay and we would return.

The Alila Beach Resort is nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived and stepped into our King room, we were completely captivated by the breathtaking ocean views--an instant sense of calm and luxury washed over us. Every detail of the room felt thoughtfully curated, from the modern, elegant design to the absolutely incredible shower that made getting ready feel like a pampering routine. The overall luxury experience of this resort is truly unmatched. Every moment felt intentional, from the serene walks along the pristine beach to lounging in the heated infinity pool while watching the sunset paint the sky in vibrant hues. The sunsets here are nothing short of magical! A vivid memory you'll want to hold onto forever. Dominic, our server, added a personal touch to our experience, offering attentive service and excellent suggestions that elevated our special sunset moment. Speaking of dining, VAGA deserves its own spotlight (see my separate review!), but suffice it to say, every dish was artfully prepared and absolutely delicious. Beyond the food, the entire stay exuded comfort and relaxation, from sinking into our cozy, cloud-like bed for an impeccable night's sleep to the simple joy of walking barefoot along the shore. This resort isn't just a getaway; it's a fully immersive experience that reminds you what it means to truly unwind in style. We left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already dreaming about our return. If you're looking for a luxurious escape where every detail is thoughtfully considered, Alila Beach Resort is an absolute must.

It's been way too long since I've been at Alila Marea. This was my 3rd stay. My month long birthday celebration begins here for a weekend with my daughter. Alila is very responsive by text before I checked in. Valet was busy on this weekend. I do love that they open the door as you enter though. Check in was at a desk where you sit. I love this! Jonathan did a great job of checking me in. My room was the firepit room which was stunning. The view is the sideways view of the ocean and the Lagoon. I loved the fire pit. The room itself was spacious, clean and comfortable. Room service came right away to deliver my birthday gift from Alila. That was very much appreciated! Having been here 2 times before, the drop in star was due to the beach butler. The service from the beach butler has gone down considerably. The Cape Rey butler next to us was more attentive than our guy.

Stayed here a few times now and I absolutely love it. So relaxing, great service, lots of space. The vibe at the pool & hot tub is great.

Alila Marea Beach Resort is perched atop a seaside bluff along the Pacific Ocean and the Southern California coastline in Encinitas. It's in the luxury category under the Hyatt brand. The resort has restaurants (Vaga, The Pocket), coffee shops (Coffee Box), and an on-site spa. The pool and hot tub overlook the ocean with wifi throughout the resort. The resort only has three floors so it's a smaller hotel. Our bed was comfortable (although the pillows were not) and the bathroom was beautiful. We had an outdoor patio with a couple seats. We were on the second floor where we had partial coastline views. It was really relaxing waking up with views of the water. The service was great and the staff was really friendly helping us get around the hotel when we were lost with our bags. The location was great with a close proximity to San Diego if you want city vibes but has the small town vibe with downtown Encinitas only 10 minutes away.

Amazing location, great amenities, beautiful design, and lovely staff! I had a fantastic stay, and they made it even more special by sending champagne to my room for my celebration--so thoughtful! The beach was easily accessible and not crowded at all, which was nice. They also have a fantastic coffee shop, a poolside restaurant, and a bar on the second floor! My room was spacious with a lovely view, and I loved the touch of eucalyptus on the shower head! I'm still dreaming about it and can't wait to return!

I did a staycation Wednesday, September 3 through Friday, September 5. The staff greeted me right away and valet took my car as soon as I pulled in. That said, valet parking isn't cheap - $60 per night just to stay, and I believe $10 if you're only visiting the bar or restaurant. Negatives: Communication from the front desk and restaurant staff was inconsistent. I was told yoga was at 9 AM, so I rushed through breakfast to make it, only to find out it was actually at 8 AM that day. On Friday, they offered both 8 and 9:15 AM classes, but the confusion threw off my plans. I was also told the restaurant closed at 10 PM, but on weekdays it actually closes at 9 unless it's the weekend. Breakfast with the AMEX perk was another point of confusion. The $45 credit is structured as a main, a side, and a beverage, but I would have preferred the flexibility to use the credit however I wanted. One employee said a mimosa counted, then the next day someone else told me it didn't. On the plus side, one server gave me a heads-up that the breakfast sandwich had lamb sausage, something not listed on the menu, which I wouldn't have expected and was not told my the other server who recommended it the previous day. Dinner prices were extremely high. The halibut was delicious, but $68 with no sides feels excessive. The lack of fitness classes also surprised me for a four-star hotel, and their fitness center was basic with no stairmaster. The cold plunge was out of order during my stay, my in-room phone didn't work so I couldn't call dining, and at checkout I was charged incorrectly for breakfast. I was told I'd receive an updated receipt by email but never did. Positives: Every employee I interacted with was friendly and welcoming. VAGA is stunning at sunset, whether you sit on the terrace with an ocean view, by the outdoor fireplaces, or indoors at the lounge. They even had live music and the NFL game playing Thursday night. The pool area was a highlight - beautiful, with an infinity Jacuzzi and shaded lounge chairs. Staff came around often to refill water, and the chicken bites by the pool were fantastic. They also had a solid cocktail and wine list. Yoga itself was wonderful once I got the timing right. The instructor was warm and even remembered my name, which made it feel more personal. The setting, right between the pool and the ocean, made it especially relaxing. The rooms were gorgeous with great views, and the property was easy to navigate. They also have a no kids policy so that made it more relaxing. Overall: It's a beautiful hotel with genuinely kind staff, a great pool, and memorable views. But between the $60 nightly valet, lack of fitness classes or extra activities, inconsistent communication, and overpriced dining, I'm not sure I'd return. The stay was lovely, but the value didn't quite match the cost.

Would highly recommend this resort if you are looking for a good place to use that resort pass! I was lucky to be invited by a friend to enjoy her day pass and we had an amazing experience. From complimentary valet parking, to incredibly attentive pool staff, this place feels like a tropical dream (White Lotus vibes). Special shoutout to the hotel liaison/engineer Marty who gave us great city tips and free alila bracelets.

Such an amazing stay, this hotel is such a hidden gem. Check in was easy and fast. The room was beautiful, didn't order any in room service, but the restaurant offered breakfast and dinner and both were amazing. Definitely look forward to coming back, especially because it's pet friendly.

The patios are larger. There's still a view from the lower level. The fire pit rooms are on the lower level, so hopefully you'll end up with one if someone cancels.

My husband had just finished working six consecutive shifts at the fire department, and we were simply looking forward to a nice evening together. As we entered the parking lot, two men in a golf cart crossed in front of our vehicle. My husband honked, and there was later a brief verbal exchange about what had happened. There were no threats or physical confrontation from us, and we believed the matter was over. Later, while we were still seated at our dinner table, a woman we had never met approached us and began questioning us about the parking-lot interaction. She told us that she and her husband were club members, repeatedly referenced their membership, said she had never seen us there before, and told us she "didn't want any problems in the future." I cannot speak to what she intended, but the encounter made both of us feel intimidated, unwelcome, and extremely uncomfortable. We later learned that an Aviara Country Club member event was being held at the restaurant that evening. After dinner, we discovered that our vehicle had been extensively damaged while parked on the property. Carlsbad Police investigated, and surveillance footage from the property documented what occurred. An individual associated with the earlier parking-lot encounter became the alleged suspect during the investigation. Our vehicle ultimately sustained nearly $15,000 in repair costs. I am intentionally not identifying anyone or making any statement about guilt. I am simply describing what my husband and I experienced that evening. What has disappointed us most is Park Hyatt Aviara's response afterward. I personally contacted hotel management and was told that Hyatt was cooperating with police, which we appreciated. We were also told that someone from Aviara Golf Club management would contact us to discuss what happened. That call never came. I understand that a hotel cannot control the actions of every person on its property, and I am not assigning legal responsibility to Hyatt. My concern is how we were treated as guests after such a serious and disturbing experience. We experienced an uncomfortable confrontation during dinner, left to discover nearly $15,000 in damage to our vehicle, and had to involve law enforcement. Yet we never felt the level of concern, communication, or follow-through we expected from a five-star property. That is what has been most disappointing. We chose Park Hyatt Aviara because we expected exceptional hospitality and guest care consistent with the Park Hyatt name. Instead, we left feeling uncomfortable, unsupported, and profoundly disappointed. I sincerely hope Park Hyatt Aviara considers how guests are cared for when something goes seriously wrong during their visit.

We stayed for a few nights during our home fumigation and after comparing just about every motel/inn around the Encinitas and Carlsbad area, I'm really glad we settled on this one. Pros: it is clean! That's not to be confused with showing its age, because it absolutely could use a facelift, but the cleanliness was there. It's convenient! Right by the freeway and yet close enough to downtown Encinitas to walk to dinner or shopping. Conveniently located right across the street from Lazy Acres, a laundromat, Mexican food, and Mr. Peabody's bar and grill. It has a nice little gym. Was there some dust? Sure but the equipment and weights did the trick, and the small gym had a little patio to stand on during cool downs. NO added cost to park cars! Some hotels were asking for $30-40 per night per vehicle and this place had the cost covered in the standard $15 hotel fee. Park as many cars as you'd like. Come and go as you please. The parking lot felt safe, and as a woman making several trips to my car in the evening I felt just fine. It's nice that you're up on a hill so you do feel more secluded from any possible unsavory surprises. No hidden fees! They are upfront about taxes and there were no surprises. WiFi was just fine, though our stay was not during busy season. Continental breakfast is included! Fried eggs and sausage were very average, but grab some coffee, a pastry, some toast, juice, cereal and you don't have to think twice about breakfast. It was basic but not gross by any means. This is not the place for you if you're expecting 5 star service, but it would be a great spot for families visiting town. Note: turn down service and daily cleaning is not provided but this was not an issue for us staying just a few days. Comfy beds and pillows, towels are nice. Front desk staff was helpful when needed, and every room has a nice balcony view. The walls are thin so if you're by the elevator or ice machine, expect to hear some kids running down the halls, but this place has everything we needed at a very affordable rate. We would absolutely come back for a little staycation in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay here!! It's not your "fancy" hotel, but it was nice and roomy inside and…read morethe staff were very friendly!! And I love how they have a coffee station for the guests that are staying here, and coffee doesn't taste bad at all...but WAIT there's more... BREAKFAST is included in your stay, and I enjoyed the choices, it is not those typical Continental Breakfast where all you get is croissants and toast. There's eggs, waffles, oatmeal, bananas, oranges, muffins, pork and chicken sausages, egg white frittatas. All the kitchen staff there were also friendly and helpful (they were helping people on how to use the waffle iron...), it's so wonderful to have this type of greetings from them in the mornings too. There is a pool, by the front hotel, but I didn't get a chance to see it. It is outdoor parking, no garage parking. I'm totally satisfied with this place!! Will definitely come back here, if I plan a visit in the Del Mar/Encinitas area!

Which I got. Then I checked my bank account today and was charged $200 for leaving the hot water on! The irony of that is unbelievable. How water damage could occur if there was no water seems like some magic that I don't weld, or someone trying to pull a fast one.

The decor and the light blue color of the room gave a pleasant beachy vibes. The bathroom was very clean. They have small parking spots but street parking is available. They printed the instructions for room service and left it on the dining table, in case if the customers need certain service. Sad to see the bad reviews on this hotel. I have never had an issue here and its a great value…read morestay. I have stayed here time and time again for years now. Most recently I stayed a week ago and my experience has always been great. This hotel has always been no frills, low cost hotel for people like myself that travel places to go out and explore. If you are more of the type that enjoys the extra amenities this may not be you top choice but for me its perfect. Super close to the Encinitas train station (a couple blocks away; walkable) along across the street is a variety of stores, a supermarket, places to eat, and a gas station. It is only a few blocks away from downtown Encinitas where there is a huge abundance of restaurants, bars, coffee, and mom and pop shops. Also very close to the ocean. My customer service has always been great. I always call in ahead to verify my reservation and at times have arrive before check in and they are happy to set me up in a room early if there is one available. Most recently they have upgraded the rooms and done a whole face lift on all of them. A very nice touch. New beds, new paint, new TVs, new showers, new barn bathroom doors and hard wood floors Even before the face lift the room have always been clean, no bugs, and a very basic place to stay with no issues. They have a community pool that I have never checked out personally but it is there is you are interested. This location deserves more credit than it get here on yelp. Definitely a good value stay in my opinion!

We were given no warning, and were very disappointed that the pool--a widely advertised amenity--was unavailable. We had no notice until we arrived on the creepy, half-done property, despite booking directly through the Wyndham website. The staff was friendly but often appeared unprofessional, with some unshaven men and everyone in casual clothes. Our room itself was clean except for a marijuana cigarette in its purchase container that we discovered between a mattress and the headboard. The makeshift lobby was difficult to find. We had no housekeeping service for the three days we stayed. Breakfast was a store-bought muffin and coffee (but we knew that in advance so it's o.k., but we planned to have a real breakfast in the cafe on the property that was listed as an amenity on the Wyndham website but it was permanently closed without warning). I will not trust the Days Inn brand or the Wyndham brand again.
