The lavash bread is amazing and the dips/spreads are so fresh and flavorful. The large "mixed plate" and a large lavash is plenty for meal for 2. Love this restaurant. We have been going for many years and the quality has remained excellent. We always start with the small appetizer plate. Got to have the hummus, beans, carrot salad, and roasted red peppers. We have tried almost everything on the menu. My go to entree is the chicken guvech. The chicken, veggies and cheese come hot to the table and taste delicious. Almost forgot the bread that comes out of the oven and to the table. It is perfect with the appetizer plate. Authentic Mediterranean. No fusion or microwave heated food. 100% handmade and authentic. Open kitchen setup and all done in front of our eyes. We've been trying to get here for several years. Tonight all the stars unexpectedly lined up behind the clouds. I'm so glad they did. The menu with pictures is the best thing since sliced brea... oops, their fresh baked lavash rises high above plain sliced bread!!! Wonderful. We started with Stuffed Grape Leaves (8 for $5.95) and thought they were good, but not as good as we've had at Athos or those homemade by our friend. I ordered the Lamb Tandur ($12.95) which came with rice, sauteed onions and pickled cabbage. The lamb had a good amount of flavor and pulled apart easily but was very dry. Wrapped in the lavash and dipped in the yogurt sauce the lamb was quite enjoyable. My wife had the Curry Iskender ($9.95) with beef and the same onions and cabbage sides as on my dish. It was a nice flavorful, Mediterranean spiced curry. Quite tasty. The portions were large enough that we didn't have room for dessert, but we both had wanted to try the Baklava. Simple solution, we got the baklava to go - 4 small pieces in an order for $4.95. It had a nice flaky top and sat in a not overly sweet syrup. It hit the spot for that late night snack. They do not have an alcohol license so choices are your basic sodas (free cup refill), Turkish coffee and tea, hot chocolate, American coffee, juices imported from Turkey (peach, apricot, sour cherry), and Ayran yogurt drink. read more

Alright so this place is definitely over rated. I only give it an extra star for the Ajuka. A must have if you land up here and love spicy flavorful dishes. Ate the kofta Iskender and wasn't anything like what the pic in the menu depicted. The pic had three small kebabs and got two ground beef patties on my place. Disappointed! :( Staff are super helpful, quick and friendly. Also a reason for the extra star. I would try another place if you find one. read more

Tried this place after the very enjoyable "Rockin on the River." All the foods seemed very authentic, as did the staff who spoke some English. The small sampler plate came with a bread fresh from the oven. It was the most amazing thing- Puffed up with steam! And delicious. We had the lamb kabobs and Cheese Pide: a dough with an excellent cheesy mixture- not all mozzarella, but with something else- cream cheese? Goat cheese? Excellent. I did not try the Baklava, though I wanted to, but it was made with only pistachios. Bah! I'm a walnut girl. And they serve no alcohol. I didn't remember to ask if we could bring our own next time. I loved Ali Baba when I was a student at RPI. Every time I return to campus, I make an effort to stop by. The Lavash Bread with yogurt sauce is delicious! The bread is hot out of the oven and disappears quickly . I always order the Chicken Iskender, it is a mixture of a red sauce and the yogurt sauce. It is amazing! Wow! Gotta try this place, if you haven't. Super friendly, easy menu with photos plus they will explain anything on the menu. We got a Lavash bread with yogurt sauce - its a large pita bread blimp. Delicious, right out of the wood fire oven. Yogurt sauce with a hint dill makes this duo a homerun! The tastes and flavors are amazing! We had beef durum (similar gyro), lamb and chicken curry.... We ordered the donor kebab gyro pizza. The meat on this pizza is not like regular Gyro meat I am used to, it has the consistency more like steak. Very tasty and filling pizza. I added a little bit of salt to my pizza, I felt the meat just needed a touch more flavor but was still very tasty. We would certainly order this again. We are looking forward to trying other menu items soon. read more

How have I not reviewed this place?! I've been coming here for going on 16 years and the one thing I love about it the most is it is consistently awesome! If you're not familiar with Turkish food I suggest getting a mixed plate for an appetizer and a lavash bread with the yogurt sauce to get a taste of a few things! My favorite dish is the chicken iskender and the beyeti. Both are extremely delicious every single time you go! My husband prefers the Islander with the lamb (I can't recall exactly what it's called but he loves it). My kids are a bit boring and get their "pizza" which I don't love but they like it so it works for me! Another thing I enjoy about this place are the prices! We always leave full and for what I consider to be a totally reasonable price. Hard combination to come by for a family of 5. I do have one thing I wish they'd change... allow BYOB. They don't serve alcohol, would be cool if we could bring a bottle of wine ;) read more

I don't remember what we had, but it was incredibly flavorful and the serving sizes were generous (two things that don't often come together). We'd somehow managed to live in Troy for two years without trying Ali Baba, but when we moved to live a couple blocks away we knew the time had come. We were so blown away by everything-- how fast the food came, how tasty everything was, and the big portions. We got the chicken iskender, veggie iskender, and a ton of apps - grape leaves, butter beans (barbunya), celery root, red peppers, yogurt sauce (a MUST have) and a large bread (which is in fact several large flatbreads hot from the oven). We split everything and had enough left over for lunch the next day and then some. We've ordered from here probably about eight times since August, with no sign of stopping soon. I couldn't recommend them any more strongly if I tried; they're definitely up there on the list of my favorite restaurants in Troy. read more

I'm a fan! Their food is good and flavorful. Still hasn't lowered their standards to make creamy flavorless food like a lot of ethnic restaurants around the city eventually do. If you haven't tried it and are considering it please do. They also include a bit of fresh baked bread with certain meals, I suggest getting an additional piece! Food is spicy not in a hot way but in a tastes good way! I order ahead and pick up. Totally worth the drive in my opinion. This place is out of this world. I came here a few months ago and was blown away by the iskender kabob. I finally got my husband to join me tonight, and thankfully the food lived up to all of my ranting and raving. For an appetizer, we shared the large mixed plate and split the veggie iskender with a huge large lavash bread on the side. Everything is reasonably priced considering the size of the servings and the quality of food. It's one of those places where even though the food is traditional, there is something for every palate that is delicious and satisfying. Probably not the most romantic setting, and the location is not 100% ideal. If you can put all that aside, Ali Baba is a must for those who love Middle Eastern cuisine. read more
